    ❛   THAT  WAS  DEFINITELY  A  DRAGON  !   ❜    but  the  question  still  remained  whether  it  was  the  same  one  they  had  been  searching  every  nook  and  cranny  for .   it  was  hard  to  tell  by  the  brief  glance  from  their  somewhat  secure  hiding  place ,   but  surely  there  couldn’t  be  more  than  one  dragon  running  rampant  in  new  york   ...   at  least  merlin  HOPED  so .   once  he  manages  to  get  his  breath  back ,   the  warlock  turns  towards  celeste ,   gaze  moving  over  her  form  for  any  sign  of  damage  after  their  skirmish .

Star Vs The Forces of Evil:

Monster Carvers (link) - Main Star Vs AU. Stomco endgame + Tom stays with Marco + Star raised by Monsters (specifically Buff Frog). The titular antagonists were originally going to disappear after the prologue what the heck happened???

Pretty Cure vs the Forces of Evil (link) - Exactly What It Says On the Tin, Pretty Cure x Star Vs.

unnamed Pirate AU - Star Butterfly has a perfectly nice, unbearably boring life as a high-class lady, with little to do other than wait to be married to her arranged fiancé that she’s never even met. A week before her wedding she sneaks on board a shipping vessel in the hopes of having an adventure. She gets a little more adventure than she bargained for when the ship is attacked by pirates.

“"Cannon”“ - A cannon-adjacent AU that started as a crossover with Monster Carvers

unnamed Infinity Train AU feat. human!Star and human!Tom.

unnamed Post-Cleaved AU featuring forced humanizations, amnesia, and one small time hiccup. Also Dave and Wrathmelior are missing, so that sucks for Tom.

How to Train Your Dragon:

Outsiders (link) - Main HTTYD AU. Instead of watching the entire Berk fleet sail off to their dooms with Toothless, Hiccup and Astrid free the arena dragons and take Toothless while he’s being brought to the ship and then they all get the heck out of dodge. Dagur accidentally set himself adrift with Heather back when they were both small. Snotlout learns the hard way that being the Heir/responsibility kind of really sucks actually??? Stoick has to deal with his son going rouge. And Gobber and the Berk Teenagers have to deal with Stoick and Snotlout respectively.

Modern Riders/Time Travel AU - Modern!Hiccup is dragged by his cousin into an unwanted camping trip with the other riders and one electrical storm later, they find their cell phones aren’t working any more. Also are those flipping dragons?! On Berk, Stoick and the other vikings are shocked to find a group of teenagers in the woods who bear a shocking resemblance to some of the members of a dead generation of children.

Unsevered Bonds - Modern Riders (minus Hiccup) meet a time displaced Hiccup who recognize them as his reincarnated friends, even if they don’t remember their former lives.

How To Train Your Lusus - Everyone are trolls on Alternia. Hiccup is a brownblood who’s probably the only troll in existence to get a second Lusus (Toothless) after his first one (Stoick) is killed. Astrid is an oliveblood that Hiccup is flushed for, Fishlegs is a yellowblood, Snotlout is a blueblood, the Twins, Dagur, and Heather are all purplebloods. Dagur killed both his and Heather’s lusus so now he’s trying to take care of her even though she absolutely hates him (and not in a black way), and he had an unrequited pitch thing for Hiccup at one point before they flipped pale (and are actually Moirails now). That’s pretty much all I have for this one.

unnamed Harry Potter AU - Does not actually take place at Hogwarts. Everyone attends Dumstrang (possibly) and the topic everyone avoids is Care of Magical Creatures, because the local Dark Lord is Drago Bludvist. Main trio is Hiccup, Snotlout (Pureblood cousins), and Fishlegs (Muggleborn)… somehow.

Dragon Gang (link) - Mob/Mafia AU set in the vaguely 1920s in a Fake Country so no one can call me out on inaccurate geography.

Rebuilding Bridges - Set in a Multiverse where RTTE and The Hidden World are mutuality exclusive. (Pt.1): After dealing with Drago but before dealing with Grimmborn, Hiccup and Toothless once fought a witch intent on ‘harvesting’ dragons. Now ten years after the dragons have left her apprentice seeks revenge and kidnaps Zephyr and Nuffink, and a panicked Hiccup and Astrid are contacted by the Very Retired and Very Much Done With This Kid witch. Meanwhile in the RTTE-verse, The Dragon Riders only just got back from informing Berk about Johann’s treachery, when some crazy lady spontaneously appears in the middle of the Edge with two terrified children she intends to feed to dragons. Yeah, that’s not happening.        (Pt.2, spoilers for this AU I guess???): Zephyr and Nuffink and their parents have safely returned to New Berk, but their world has been shaken by what was and could have been. Zephyr and Nuffink, after bonding with Dagur in the other timeline, decide they want to try and help him in theirs. This was perhaps not their best idea. Meanwhile, the Nightlights escape the watchful eye of their parents to go exploring outside the Hidden World, and quickly meet the hatchlings of their dad’s brother! (so… their cousins, then?)

Something Wild (name subject to change) - Several years after Berk (along with most of the Archipelago) is attacked and taken captive by a far more advanced foe, Stoick is able to free most of his people but what he finds when they get manage to regroup back to their island is less than a relief- Berk ravaged and their elderly and children, left behind by their captors, missing. To make matters worse, the dragons are still out there, now with some kind of devils riding and aiding them. Now Stoick, Gobber, and the rest of the people of Berk must find safety and a way to fight back against they’re new foe, find what happened to those who are missing, and figure out who these dragon riders are and whether they’re friend of foe (gee i wonder where the Berkians went and who the dragon riders are golly what a mystery). (aka the feral/semi-feral!dragon riders au i keep trying to create)

Lost (name subject to change) - Alternate attempt at the feral/semi-feral!dragon riders au. Several years before the events of the movie could happen, a raid on Berk not by dragons, but by other people, leads to the destruction of an entire generation when the raiders manage to capture the Teenagers of Berk and ship them away. While in captivity, they meet and ultimately befriend the dragons that in another life would be their partners and together they all escape. Unfortunately, they’re Thor-knows-where, and with no one they can trust (or understand) except each other, getting back to Berk might take a while…

The Lego Movie:

Hero with Two Faces of Yellow - Another ‘Emmet and Rex share a body like Good Cop Bad Cop’ AU

Peacemaker AU - Main Lego AU. About a year after the Duplo aliens attack, Emmet is attacked and presumed dead, but he’s actually been taken by General Mayhem to meet Queen Watevra Wana'bi, who remembered and missed her ‘father’. Later, Rex ends up jumping into an entirely different timeline by accident (this one) and decides to try and play the long game by befriending Emmet, who’s now living in the Systar System. That probably won’t work out for him the way he wanted.

Miraculous Ladybug

MiracuClass Knows AU - Prior to Volpina, each member of the MiracuClass finds out the identities of Ladybug and Chat Noir, and just sort of collectively become their secret keepers. Inspired by Epiphanies by PFTones3582 on Fanfiction.net.

Miraculous Sburb AU - The MiracuClass play Sburb and end up dragging a good chunk of Paris in with them when they enter the Medium. Marinette is a Light player, Adrien is a Doom player, and that’s all I got. Gabriel probably definitely dies.

One Is Silver and the Other Gold - aka the Marikimno Brot3 AU. I headcannon that Marinette, Kim, and Nino were close friends as little kids that drifted apart a few years prior to the start of the show. In this AU, that never happened. Also, Alya becomes Adrien’s best friend instead of Nino, and Nathanel becomes their friend too somehow? (someone help Alya, she’s an extrovert and both her friends have social skill levels in the single digits.)

The Ladybug and the Monkey - Main Miraculous Ladybug AU. My take on the ‘Fu chooses Kim to be the second Miraculous wielder instead of Adrien’ AU that I’ve somehow seen multiple times.

Sleeper Miraculous -  AU where instead of the Miraculous being handed out, they’re transported magically to their wielders after they’ve proved themselves somehow. The Miraculous still need to be ‘activated’ by the Guardian to be used on either a permanent or temporary basis, so Ladybug still has to go to Master Fu at first before she becomes the new Guardian, but she knows literally none of the other members of Team Miraculous’s identities. They have a chat group, too, where Ladybug updates team members on whose Miraculous she’s going to activate, and both Chloe and Kagami never blow their identities. Contains both mild Classmates + (even milder)Adrien salt and sugar. (define irony: wanting to punch someone in the face for being an a-hole only to realize that said a-hole is you).

Miraculous! Pretty Cure! - Another Pretty Cure AU. Yep.

Mesapia AU - Butterfly!Marinette AU with a few twists - 1) instead of just facing the villainous user of the Ladybug Miraculous, all of the Miraculous have been lost to villains (save for the rabbit). Marinette frequently empowers her classmates (+Adrien, who’s still under house-arrest in this AU, Luka, and Kagami) to fight the Miraculous Villains, who are also all fighting each other; and 2) This isn’t so much a Kwami Swap as a Kwami Scramble, no one uses their canon Miraculous here (except for Fu briefly, and Emilie had the peacock before what happened to her)!

Boys vs Girls AU (name subject to change) - Marinette vs Lila with the Boys (+Kagami) on Marinette’s side and the Girls on Lila’s.

Labyrinth - Almost the entirety of the MiracuClass go missing (+Lila, Luka, & Kagami, -Chloe) and on a related note, eight very young children wake up in an ever-shifting, monster-filled underground labyrinth and grow up together. And two of them have some special, appearance-shifting jewelry…

Mad Gabriel - Miraculous Ladybug x Mad Father, starring Adrien as Aya, Marinette as Dio, Gabriel as Alfred Drevis, Nathalie as Maria, and everyone else as the doctor’s victims (Lila is Ines).

Miraculous Royal AU - A fantasy AU starring the MiracuClass (shocker) spread out across three fantasy kingdoms.

Quartz Butterfly AU - AU in which Jagged Stone takes the role of (a significantly nicer but still villainous) Hawkmoth as Quartz Butterfly, with Penny taking on Mayura’s role as Songbird. (yes i know peacocks aren’t songbirds SHHHH).

MiracuTrio AU - AU based on fanofanimation’s submission to terrible-miraculous-ladybug-aus, where Kim becomes a permanent member of the team after Party Crasher.

Mitterlicht - horror-ish AU inspired partially by various horror games, Lucidstuck, and Underbright (no, really).  After receiving their Miraculous for the first time, the temporary heroes start having less-than-restful nights. Things quickly go from bad to worse when fragmented, panic-inducing dreams turn into nightly (and solitary) trips into a dark world full of monsters that want to take something referred to just as their ‘light’- a bright light that acts as both a beacon to the hostile creatures and the only way to return to consciousness every night -which just so happen to be in the exact spot (and in many cases, are also vaguely the same shape) of their Miraculouses.

Mirakatsu - Aikatsu AU

Ladybug: Don’t Deal With Hawkmoth - (aka the result of listening to the Cuphead Rap Battle 50 million times) Cuphead AU where Ladybug and Chat Noir have to go around beating up akumas and collecting their butterflies to avoid getting akumatized by Hawkmoth.

Miracle Thieves - a phantom/gentleman thief au where Marinette and Adrien (who have been thieves for years) unwittingly steal a pair of magical artifacts and decide to team up afterwards. Includes Fox!Nino, Journalist-determined-to-expose-their-identities!Alya, and possibly Tiger!Markov.

Merged Sessions AU - An AU where our favorite trolls and the Beta Kids are all part of the same session

Same Side of the Scratch AU - AU where the Beforus Trolls replace the Alternian ones, and when both sessions get scratched the Alternian Trolls end up in communication with the Alpha Kids

Same Side, Same Session AU - Combines both of the two immediately above AUs, The Beta Kids and Beforus Trolls have a session together that fails and gets Scratched, then the Alternians and Alphas play the game together while the pre-scratch players (all alive) travel to their session and have Meteorstuck Shenanigans.

Relief Was Just a Dream (name subject to change) - aka the mandatory Troll Rebellion AU, inspired by a fic I don’t remember the name of on A03. Sweeps after Karkat and Feferi are (seemingly) culled, Ace Legislacerator Terezi Pyrope -one of the best despite knowing she’s one wrong move away from being culled for her disability- is called in to investigate a series of traitorous attacks on more and more ships. Weirdly, the trolls seen most in the attacks don’t even seem to exist, all seem to bleed a painfully familiar cherry red, and have powers that even Her Imperial Condescension doesn’t seem to have. (not a no-game au)

Freetime AU (name subject to change) - AU where Bro leaves Dave on Dad Egbert’s doorstep, and Dave and John grow up as brothers.

Megaman:

Pokemon Network - Hub lives Pokemon AU with at least two protagonist teams. Team A: Lan, Hub, Mayl, Dex & Yai in Kanto. Team B: Roll, Glyde, Gutsman (Gus) in Kalos. What are Chaud and Protoman/Blues up to? ~Secrets~

Sailor Moon:

Inverse Corruption - When Beryl scours the Earth looking for her reincarnated generals she fails to find them, but she does manage to find the senshi instead. Sailor Moon has to unknowingly face the very girls who were supposed to protect her, fighting side-by-side with the Shitennou instead. (the boys are highschoolers to the girls middleschoolers)

Hazbin Hotel:

Infernal Relations - Why did Lucifer and Lilith wait so long to have a child? Simple; they didn’t. Unbeknownst to Charlie, her parents both had and lost a child thousands of years before she was born, a fact that will have far more of an effect on her hotel than she could possibly realize (even if she had known).

Apprentice Charlie AU - AU where Charlie gets into a fight with Lucifer and leaves before she ever thinks to create her hotel and Alastor ends up finding amusement by taking on an apprentice. (inspired by Helluva Teacher by Sol_Victoria on A03)

Phineas and Ferb:

Cursed Cats AU - AU based on the song Black Cats of Halloween. Phineas, Ferb, and their friends are cursed by a demon who turns them into black cats, save for on Halloween night. They’re then thrown into a world of magic and have to find each other, their way back home, and a way to break their curse, preferably in that order.

Danganronpa:

Online Gamer AU - no one dies/non-despair AU where no one is a super/ultra highschool level anything, no one has met each other in person, and they all play Among Us together. Junko always dies first and she’s low-key going to hurt someone over it.

unnamed AU inspired by ask-the-dr-reset-kids - After an incident that forces Hope’s Peak to temporarily close it’s doors, Class 78 all transfer to a different school. Junko is in jail, Mukuro is coping, Izuru is looming somewhere, the Ultimate Despair are waiting like sleeper agents to cause the The Most Despair Inducing Event in History, and Makoto is straight up not having a good time (and has very good reasons not to tell anyone).

unnamed AU where both Class 77 and Class 78, including both Junko and Mukuro but without Chiaki end up playing the Killing Game together.

Double Mastermind AU - similar to the above, both Class 77 and Class 78 wake up one day with no memories of their school lives. They’ll have to work together, somehow, to find out where they are, how to get back to civilization, and how to get back their memories. Meanwhile in the control room, Makoto and a sort-of-but-not-really-reformed Junko are working together as the Masterminds behind the mystery. Well, Makoto’s working, anyway. Junko just kind of wants to give Makoto daily migraines. Contains Junko/Makoto hateshipping.

unnamed Taka Lives AU where instead of switching roles with Hiro during the third trial he just manages to survive the murder attempt. He does not, however, get out unscathed…

another unnamed Taka Lives AU where Makoto, at Kyoko’s urging, decides to stay with Kiyondo the night he would have died, throwing a huge wrench into the would-be-blackeneds’ plans.

Asassain!Makoto AU: The Killing School Life - an au where Makoto is secretly the Ultimate Assassin.

Assasain!Makoto AU: The Killing Mystery - au that’s basically the one directly above but takes place in a non-despair (or maybe averted despair would be more accurate) timeline. After receiving and turning down a job to assassinate a certain up-and-coming politician, The Black Mask (Makoto) alerts his would-be victim, an old former friend, that someone is out for his life.

Remnants of Hope AU - AU that takes place after the end of School Mode, with the class not being picked up by the future foundation right away. (does this. does this actually qualify as an au i’m not sure.)

unnamed Class Swap AU

unnamed AU where Makoto and Kiyotaka are brainwashed into Ultimate Despair in addition to Class 77. Contains both sweet and very effed up Naeishi, as well as Despair!Makoto+Izuru friendship (or as close as Izuru can get, anyway). Technically another 2 (or 3, sort of) masterminds au.

Soulmates AU - In a world where most people are colorblind until meeting their soulmate, Makoto Naegi walks into Hope’s Peak Academy colorblind, blacks out, and wakes up to color. As it turns out, the same thing happened to everyone else!

Scrapbook AU - After entering into Hope’s Peak Academy, Makoto started a scrapbook/photo album of himself, his classmates, and eventually even the class above his own during their time on and off school. It soon became a class diary of sorts after being discovered, shared among everyone… then a chronicle of the events leading up to Class 77 going missing, The Tragedy starting, and Class 78 sealing themselves inside the school bunker, before returning to it’s original purpose as Class 78 lived inside their homemade bunker. In canon, Junko found and burned it. In this timeline, it’s an amnesiac Makoto and his classmates who find it, hidden under the floor in Makoto’s room.

Amnesia AU - A boy wakes up in a school(?) with no memories of where he is, how he got here, or even who he is. As it turns out, there are fourteen other people here… and all of them have the same memory loss he does! (may or may not be an IF Bad End AU)

Polychain AU - Another different Victims and Blackends au, that extends well beyond the original Killing Game. The Tragedy occurs very differently in this one… initially. Also features Junko escaping after the Killing Game, and Hajime and Shuichi being half-brothers and kids of the survivors.

Unnamed AU where Leon and Taka also attended Makoto and Sayaka’s middle school.

Ghost AU - After being killed, the victims and blackened are forced to stick around and watch the Killing Game happen, believing they'll be allowed to move on after they leave. Turns out, they're very much wrong- but at least after it's over their classmates can see them! Too bad they're the only ones.

Teachers Assistant AU - inspired by a fic I don’t remember the name of on fanfiction.net. After Nagito blows up a building and gets suspended, Chisa is forced to take a Teacher’s Assistant or be fired. Somehow, a very reluctant Makoto gets the job, despite being in the class below her own. Cross-class shenanigans ensue.

Unnamed Timetravel AU inspired by a fic I don’t remember the name of on fanfiction.net where Makoto and Alter Ego, the only survivors of the Killing Game, are sent back in time to Makoto’s first day attending Hope’s Peak - Makoto mentally and Alter Ego physically. Not as dark as the premise sounds, at least theoretically.

Crossover

Dagla!Adrien AU - Adrien isn’t the son of Gabriel and Emilie Agreste, but instead his parents are a Modern Dagur and Mala. He still works for Gabriel as a model, but otherwise has had a very different upbringing (most notably the inclusion of a lot of people who have cared about him for his entire life, such as his best friend Zephyr Haddock) and acts more like Chat Noir both with and without the mask. He still befriends his canon friends, becomes Chat Noir, and falls in love with Ladybug. (HTTYD x Miraculous Ladybug)

unnamed Adventure Time x Star Vs AU

Miracutale - Lila pushes Marinette down a hole, Adrien tries to catch her but fails. Undertale ensues. (Miraculous Ladybug x Undertale)

Sailor Bella (name subject to change) - AU inspired by some art from Turning-the-Tides, Princess Serenity reincarnates not into Usagi Tsukino, but Isabella Garcia-Shapiro, and her Senshi are reincarnated into the boys. I have no idea who Endymion became if he exists at all in this AU. (Sailor Moon x Phineas and Ferb)

unnamed three-way crossover between Harry Potter, Miraculous Ladybug, and How to Train Your Dragon.

unnamed Steven Universe x Undertale AU - After returning from the Jungle Moon, Steven and Connie end up stranded in an alternate timeline where they meet what appears to be another half-gem going by the name of False Topaz (Frisk). Things get a little more tricky when it turns out that gems and humans coexist somewhat… on one side of a giant, seemingly uncross-able mountain range live humans, on the other gems, and after a war between the two a few centuries ago, both cultures have a kill on sight policy. To make things more complicated, gems seem to be very different in this timeline. (note: Frisk is not actually a gem, just disguised as one)

unnamed Undertale x Star Vs AU - There’s a new face at the Silver Bell Ball - Frisk, heir and ambassador for the Kingdom of… Monsters?! Star and Frisk are quick to befriend each other, but despite that, Star can’t help but feel that Frisk doesn’t like her… And Frisk may have more than one secret to share… or maybe to keep.

unnamed Miraculous Ladybug x Danganronpa AU - The Worst Most Despair Inducing Event In History was localized to Japan (but the effects are spreading), and the six survivors of Hope’s Peek, aided by Kagami’s father, whom Byakuya naturally has connections to, immigrate to France to pick up the pieces of their lives. Meanwhile in France, Ms. Bustier’s class gain five new transfer students after the events of Miracle Queen.

- - - I’ve been thinking and I have talked, a lot, about Peter’s betrayal. That is still a thing that happens and I do have a verse where he doesn’t but, usually, I write that he does betray his friends.

It’s a strange thing, that Peter betrays his only friends. I have always seen it as JKR just needing someone to do it so that the story made sense so it had to be Peter. I hate a lot of things about how she wrote Peter in the books, like how he was the only ‘fat’ Marauder, he wasn’t as good at magic as the others, how he was a hatstall between Slytherin and Gryffindor so that explains why he eventually betrayed the Potters (which is just an excuse to push the narrative that all Slytherins are evil)

In my interpretation of him, he probably became a spy for Voldemort once the Order had been told about the Prophecy. This was war, they had been fighting this war since they got out of Hogwarts and, in my interpretation, Peter was very disillusioned by it. He joined because his friends were also joining and he liked Lily so he understood that this was the right thing to do. But suddenly, Peter is fighting in an actual war, his friends are trying their best, and then Dumbledore comes in and tells them that their is a prophecy that speaks of who’s going to defeat the Dark Lord.

And it’s a baby.

Either James and Lily’s baby or Alice and Frank’s baby.

And any hope that Peter has for this war ending quickly is over and he doesn’t want his friends to die and HE doesn’t want to die because he chose to be in the Order, so Peter goes and talks to Voldemort.

I am totally not condoning what he did, not at all. But there needs to be a reason why Peter left and betrayed his friends. I don’t think that he ever thought that James and Lily were going to die. Voldemort was a charming and manipulative wizard, who probably made the same promise to Peter that he made to Snape. As long as they don’t try to stop him, James and Lily would live. All he cared about was Harry.

It’s still a terrible thing to do, to be willing to let a baby die for your own survival, but Peter was a hatstall between Gryffindor and Slytherin. And a huge Slytherin trait is self-preservation and that’s one of the traits that I believe that Peter would have. Suddenly, Halloween 1981 happens and James, Lily, and Voldemort are dead and Sirius is going to kill him because he knows that Peter is the secret keeper...so he runs.

Peter spends 12 years as a rat after that, which drove him insane. By the time Prisoner of Azkaban happens, he is not the same boy that he was when he was in Hogwarts. Being a rat for 12 years, alone with his thoughts about how he killed his friends, drove him insane. 

I just think that a lot of people forget that Peter was a Marauder, he became an Animagus for Remus and he was part of all the boys pranks. If he had shown signs of being a bad person in Hogwarts, the other three wouldn’t have been his friends. This is, of course, not justifying his actions. As Sirius said, he would have died rather than betray his friends because he thought he was going to die. Peter decided not to die and to sacrifice Harry for his potential survival and for the promised survival of his friends. 

JKR was also just lazy by making him a rat...like yeah, obviously he was the traitor, he’s an actual rat hahaha....

Has your muse ever been the victim of an Unforgivable Curse?

 Drew : Never, luckily.

 Malcolm: Again, luckily enough, no.

Have they ever used one themselves?

 Drew : Once, as a teenager during the wizarding war. He tried to used the Cruciatus Curse on a Death Eater who had severely injured another wizard.

 Malcolm : No, he’s never used one, though there was a rumour once that he used the Imperius Curse on one of his colleagues.

What is their wand?

 Drew : Holly, 11″. Unicorn hair.

 Malcolm : Pine, 13 ¾ “. Phoenix feather.

Did they get it from Ollivanders or was it passed down?

 Drew : Passed down from his Grandfather.

 Malcolm : Bought at Ollivanders.

Diagon Alley or Knockturn Alley?

 Drew: Both! He sometimes sells items like dragon fangs, claws and the like in both areas. He dislikes the atmosphere in Knockturn Alley, but he knows his way around it.

 Malcolm: He went into Knockturn Alley once as a Hogwarts student on a dare in his Third Year. He hasn’t been there since. He rarely visits Diagon Alley.

What is their patronus?

 Drew: A Runespoor, a very unusual patronus. It’s quite fitting though seeing as both this creature and Drew’s face claim have connections to Africa!

 Malcolm: A rat. Swift, intelligent, usually not welcome on sight. Also quite fitting.

Has their patronus ever changed?

 Drew : Drew’s patronus briefly changed after his eldest brother died, taking on the form of a labrador (his brothers patronus). Needless to say it was a shock when he saw it. After a few months it returned to its usual form.

 Malcolm : His patronus has always been consistent.

What was their first familiar?

 Drew : A barn owl named Tiberius.

 Malcolm : A tawny owl named Luna.

What was their best subject at school?

 Drew : Care of Magical Creatures.

 Malcolm : Defense Against The Dark Arts.

What was their worst subject?

 Drew : Transfiguration.

 Malcolm : Divination.

Can they ride a broom?

 Drew : He can, but he’s quite rusty now! He much prefers to Apparate or use the Floo Network.

 Malcolm: An excellent Quidditch player in his youth, Malcolm is still very good on a broom.

Would they consider entering the Triwizard Tournament if they had the chance?

 Drew : Young Drew would leap at the chance for something so dangerous!

 Malcolm: As much as he would have been excited by the prospect of watching the Tournament, he wouldn’t enter.

Do they play Quidditch?

 Drew : Only when his younger family members beg him to and only if he can be Keeper.

 Malcolm: Not very often now, though he sometimes plays with his niece and nephew. He makes use of a slowing charm on the bludger so as to avoid knocking either of them off their brooms too hard.

Do they care much about the reputation of their school house?

 Drew : He certainly takes great pride in being a Gryffindor and did everything he could to live up to the name while he was at school.

 Malcolm: Despite all the bad talk that surrounded Slytherin House while he was at school, Malcolm was a proud Slytherin. But that didn’t mean he had to like any of his fellow House mates. The idea of ambition and cunning being applauded was something that spoke to him as a teenager.

What spell are they most proficient at?

 Drew : Healing and defensive spells.

 Malcolm : Hexes and jinxes.

Can they do wandless magic?

 Drew: As getting tossed around a lot is part of Drew’s occupation, he’s become quite adept at using wandless magic. He prefers to use his wand for accuracy, but in a pinch he knows he can still do the spell work without.

 Malcolm : He can do some, but he’s not super skilled at it and tends to use his wand for most things.

Did they ever collect Chocolate Frog cards?

 Drew: He collected them religiously in his first year, then lost them all.

 Malcolm: He collected and traded a few when he first started at Hogwarts but lost interest after a couple of weeks.

Today I’m going to be sharing my favorite books that I’ve read in 2020 thus far…

» The Ruins of Gorlan (Ranger’s Apprentice #1) by John Flanagan

Genre: YA fantasy

My mother-in-law actually recommended this book for my son.  After reading it for myself, I agree that this book would definitely appeal to boys.  There are some wonderful themes like hard work, courage, friendship, etc.  I would also consider this a wonderful gateway book into fantasy.

Black Enough was a game changer for me.  I don’t tend to read anthologies because I find that I tend to struggle to connect to short stories, but I loved this collection!  What an excellent book to incorporate during #BlackHistoryMonth in February!

» Girls Like Us by Randi Pink

Genre: YA historical fiction

Set in the summer of 1972, this moving YA historical novel is narrated by teen girls from different backgrounds with one thing in common: Each girl is dealing with pregnancy. Four teenage girls. Four different stories. What they all have in common is that they’re dealing with unplanned pregnancies.

In rural Georgia, Izella is wise beyond her years, but burdened with the responsibility of her older sister, Ola, who has found out she’s pregnant. Their young neighbor, Missippi, is also pregnant, but doesn’t fully understand the extent of her predicament. When her father sends her to Chicago to give birth, she meets the final narrator, Susan, who is white and the daughter of an anti-choice senator.

Randi Pink masterfully weaves four lives into a larger story – as timely as ever – about a woman’s right to choose her future.

Wow!  A book about teen pregnancy set in the 70s?  Yes!  I flew through this book.  I was very invested in this story & the characters.

» Awkward (Berrybrook Middle School #1) & Crush (Berrybrook Middle School #3) by Svetlana Chmakova

Genre: MG contemporary ((graphic novels))

I’ve adored each graphic novel in this series.  Chmakova captures the essence of middle school perfectly.  She also does a wonderful job giving us a diverse cast of characters, and tackling relevant topics.

» On the Come Up by Angie Thomas

Genre: YA contemporary

Sixteen-year-old Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. Or at least make it out of her neighborhood one day. As the daughter of an underground rap legend who died before he hit big, Bri’s got big shoes to fill. But now that her mom has unexpectedly lost her job, food banks and shutoff notices are as much a part of Bri’s life as beats and rhymes. With bills piling up and homelessness staring her family down, Bri no longer just wants to make it—she has to make it.

On the Come Up is Angie Thomas’s homage to hip-hop, the art that sparked her passion for storytelling and continues to inspire her to this day. It is the story of fighting for your dreams, even as the odds are stacked against you; of the struggle to become who you are and not who everyone expects you to be; and of the desperate realities of poor and working-class black families.

While this didn’t necessarily have as much as an impact on me as The Hate U Give, this book was amazing in its own right.  I think Angie Thomas has a brilliant way of writing YA contemporary that is not only relevant & important, but also entertaining at the same time.

I am LOVING this MG fantasy series.  While these books are a bit chunky, don’t let the page count deter you.  I fly through these books.   I’d recommend this series to fans of Harry Potter.

» The Penderwicks (The Penderwicks #1) by Jeanne Birdsall

Genre: MG contemporary

The Penderwick sisters busily discover the summertime magic of Arundel estate’s sprawling gardens, treasure-filled attic, tame rabbits, and the cook who makes the best gingerbread in Massachusetts. Best of all is Jeffrey Tifton, son of Arundel’s owner, the perfect companion for their adventures. Icy-hearted Mrs. Tifton is less pleased with the Penderwicks than Jeffrey, and warns the new friends to stay out of trouble. Is that any fun? For sure the summer will be unforgettable.

This is the perfect book to pick up during the summer months.  It really gave me modern Little Women crossed with The Secret Garden vibes.  The ending was so heartwarming it almost brought me to tears.

I enjoyed these subsequent installments even more than the first!  The art style is absolutely stunning and I really enjoyed the story line.  I can really see this as a TV series or movie.

     Everyone knows the name Simon Fairbairn; how he terrorized the Wizarding world at the side of He Who Must Not Be Named. When the dark Lord disappeared on the night that he encountered the Boy Who Lived, many of his followers ran off into hiding. But many others still, were captured and sent to Azkaban, Fairbairn included. He had been sold out by his own blood.

     Back in the English countryside, a mother and her three children resided; a family that shared the name of Fairbairn. But they didn't keep it for long. As soon as her husband had been taken away, Rose Fairbairn quickly changed their name to that of Marrowbone, her maiden name. To protect the children, the family, and their reputation. They had no association with the monster that was Simon Fairbairn. The monster who burned and pillaged and killed under the name of Voldemort. Who had terrorized his own children and wife with violence and abuse.

     For nearly ten years they lived in peace. As much peace as they could get, hiding away their origins. The Children attended school and learned to protect themselves. But their mother was sick, and she did not have much strength. When the younger two were only in their fifth year, the monster returned, somehow escaping the depths and dementors of the great Azkaban walls. He had only one goal on his mind and vowed to take revenge on those that had betrayed him.

     Fairbairn found his family once again, despite their hiding. And upon learning their change of name, he was even more furious. Ferocious rage that ensnared those innocent souls within his wrath. Rose hid her children away, locked them where he could not get in. She cast a series of protective charms. Then stood her ground. However, his dark arts and rage overpowered her weak form. Rose’s body collapsed against the door, like a shield between herself and the young. However, he could not get through, for the power of love and sacrifice outweighed his villainy. But he waited, for they could not stay in there forever. In the midst of their torment, Rose had been sure to alert the ministry. They were on their way. But just as their arrived, Fairbairn made his escape running off into the night to once again join the side of his Dark Lord.

Rose was weak, but alive. Sent to St. Mungos, the children now live alone, hiding their past. And their mother’s condition. She would not have long. Still under her protective charms, their father cannot get near them even if he tried. They must finish up their years of school. Jack must turn 17 before their mother’s time runs out.

NOTE: Within the time-line, Billy and Jane are 5 years ahead of the Golden trio and Jack is 6 ahead. The eldest Marrowbone finishes school at the end of Chamber of Secrets. Jane and Billy finish after Prisoner of Azkaban. This doesn't have to stay consistent, the time-line can change. The kids can be closer to the golden trio's age if desired. I am not picky to sticking to timelines, as long as it is in the wizarding universe. For the elder Marrowbones, their hp verse will take place anywhere between their 4th and 7th years. Adulthood / post Hogwarts can be discussed (when Sam is in school).

Sam attends school about eleven years later. Just before the next generation comes along. Perhaps in the early years of James. Again, this can change and timelines do not need to be stuck to. The only big important thing, is that Sam is NOT at Hogwarts the same time as the older Marrowbones are. Sam's hp verse will take place alongside his teen and young adult verse respectively. Teen fc for years 1-4 and grown fc with years 5-7.

JACK: Gryffindor. Excellent at Defense Against the Dark Arts and history. Member of the wizard's chess team. Goes on to become a wonderfully skilled auror. He marries Allie, a muggle whom he met back home. They move into their own house a few doors down. While Jack is gone often, traveling for work, he make sure to always return for holidays and come by on weekends. He also sends lots of parcels Sam's way when the youngest attends school.

JANE: Ravenclaw. Enjoys divination and potions. She skips her 6th year, to stay at home with newborn Sam. But manages to set up a system with Flitwick and Dumbledore that allows for private lessons on holidays and self teaching her studies at home. Their mother passes not long after this term. Jane becomes a healer within their small country wizarding village.

BILLY: Slytherin. Excels at herbology and charms. You can often find him in the greenhouse or down at Hagrid's cabin. The grounds keeper often hires the boy to help with his garden, paying him in rockcakes, pasties, or intricate Magical creatures artifacts for him to send home to Sam. Member of the dueling club. While he pleaded to skip his 6th year as well, and be there at Jane's side, he was not allowed. After all, Hogwarts was the safest place they could be. And Jack only had to finish his final year. So the boys were sent back for term. After finishing school, Billy remains living with Jane and Sam, working in the village local bar.

SAM: Hufflepuff. Sam has a natural talent and passion in Care for Magical Creatures. Following his brother’s footsteps, he befriends Hagrid and is often working with the various magical creatures on campus (or he can be found near the edge of the Forbidden Forest). In his fourth year, he is deemed old enough to finally learn about his parentage. After hearing a prophecy that sounded too familiar to his own life, Sam fears he will encompass his father's evil ways against his will. Falling into a deep identity crisis, he works alongside the headmaster to qualm his fears and tribulations throughout the term. He lives with Jane and Billy in their country home, within a secluded wizarding village.

UPBRINGING.

river is the only child of roland & poppy barkley, both descending from magical families. roland & poppy met during their own time at hogwarts, both in gryffindor house, were married by the time they were twenty-two, and had river several years later. roland is a higher-up in the ministry of magic, as generations of barkley men were before him, while poppy briefly reported for the daily prophet and now writes a weekly column that she can work on from the comfort of her own ( large & opulent ) home. the barkleys currently reside on the outskirts of hampstead, in a home that river has lived in for much of his life, though his father’s work had the family traveling frequently in the first eight or nine years of his life. promotions at the ministry eventually led to stability, coupled with the desire to prepare their son for his upcoming wizarding education.

HOGWARTS.

year one.

river is unexpectedly sorted into ravenclaw upon arrival to hogwarts. it was rare for a barkley to be placed anywhere else, and his mother’s family lineage had been similar. however, the barkleys are quick to say that they’d always suspected there had been ‘something different’ about their son when news got back to them and anyone else asked. river, however, can’t see why it had been such a surprise; he’d become invested and interested in learning languages from a young age, always read voraciously, and even he could recognize his own observant and cerebral nature and his contrast to his parents.

river does well in all of his first year studies, but particularly excels in transfiguration, history of magic, defense against the dark arts, and flying.

year two.

river tries out for the ravenclaw quidditch team. he makes the team and plays in the position of keeper.

frustrated by hagrid’s imprisonment, river attempted to advocate on his behalf to his father, hoping he could exert some influence and reverse the ministry’s decision. while his father intends for river to follow in his footsteps and work for the ministry just as he does, river has no particular interest in doing so, meaning they only butt heads more on the matter. this is the first time the barkley boys are directly at odds over the path the family intends for river and what river thinks he actually might want.

year three.

river begins elective studies with the rest of the third year students; he chooses muggle studies and care of magical creatures.

at the end of his third year, sirius black escapes re-arrest after a lengthy pursuit by the ministry that ends in humiliation for the wizarding government. with his father working close to the minister himself, the elder barkleys take the embarrassment particularly personally. while river still empathizes with his parents, if to keep the peace, he isn’t particularly sympathetic towards the ministry itself and is really only further deterred from following in his father’s footsteps.

year four.

for electives, river takes arithmancy and study of ancient runes.

he also begins tutoring, assisting younger students in academic problem areas but also becoming a language tutor for those interested in picking one up. his father doesn’t see the point in this, arguing that there is no benefit for river in the end, though conflict with his family reaches an important point when he confesses interest in teaching one day rather than working in the government. while poppy & roland are never outright unsupportive of river, and the barkleys never get angry with each other ( though that is a testament to river’s nature more than anything else ), it does become a point of contention that roland brings up in ways that can only be described as passive aggressive.

the events of the triwizard tournament only increase river’s disappointment in the ministry and his displeasure at his association. when cornelius fudge refuses to believe dumbledore and harry potter’s accounts of the tournament, river not only tries to convince his father to talk to fudge about it, but also tries to convince his mother to write her column in opposition to the ministry’s decision. both efforts are unsuccessful, and river’s disappointment in both of them and their continued efforts to get him to come around to the idea of working in the ministry make for an uncomfortable summer away from school, which river spends mostly reading, and remains withdrawn.

year five.

river becomes a prefect for ravenclaw house.

the barkley influence extends to hogwarts; when river goes to receive career counseling from his head of house, he is again told a job with the ministry would be most suitable after roland sent a letter asking for it to be advocated. beginning to see that trying to rebel against the mold his family seems so desperately to want him to fit might be more trouble than its worth, he stops pushing back and tells himself it will be better to see his parents happy & proud.

river joins dumbledore’s army, and while his father is initially alarmed at his involvement, he ends up trying to get river to assist the ministry from the inside. he, of course, refuses, and while he never wants to hurt his family specifically, he maintains allegiance to the army.

river achieves o.w.l.s in charms, transfiguration, defense, potions, arithmancy, history of magic, astronomy, herbology, & muggle studies.

year six.

river succeeds roger davies as captain of the ravenclaw quidditch team ( though feel free to correct me on this timeline as far as when roger leaves school lol river having the captainship is just a nice parallel to his canon timeline and i was pretty convinced roger would be older than river ).

river selects his n.e.w.t. classes: transfiguration, history of magic, defense, charms, muggle studies, arithmancy, & astronomy.

river receives notice at the end of the year that he will be promoted to ravenclaw head boy for his seventh year.

river receives guidance from his father on the most suitable n.e.w.t. classes for him aside from taking basis from his o.w.l.s. while he does not necessarily struggle with the academically ( at least not more than would have been expected ), he begins to feel the weight of his lack of control in his life particularly heavily, and despite being a well-liked and conventionally popular student, the isolation sixth year brings with its academic demands leaves him feeling painfully disconnected, even more so than before. this is not helped when he returns home for the summer.

year seven.

river only completes roughly the first month of his seventh year before his death.

Bio: Ron Weasley is an English pure-blood wizard, the sixth and youngest son of Arthur and Molly Weasley (née Prewett). He was also the younger brother of Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, and the elder brother of Ginny. Ron and his brothers and sister lived at the Burrow, on the outskirts of Ottery St Catchpole.

Ron began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1991 and was Sorted into Gryffindor House. He soon became close friends with fellow student Harry Potter and later Hermione Granger. Together, they made the Golden trio and faced many challenges during their adolescence. Ron also became a Gryffindor prefect and a Keeper on the Gryffindor Quidditch team during his fifth year at Hogwarts.

He skipped his last year of school in order to accompany Harry and Hermione on a hunt to destroy all of Lord Voldemort's Horcruxes and fought in the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998, during which he lost his brother Fred, a loss which devastated him and his family, especially George, Fred's twin.

After the war, Ron became an Auror and helped reform and revolutionize the Ministry of Magic. After two years as an Auror, he went to work at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes with his brother George.

an incomplete list of headcanons for sirius black:

there was a period of about 6-8 months between running away/being disowned and receiving his uncle’s inheritance when sirius had absolutely nothing to his name but the misc junk he’d shoved in a bag when he left the house to go to james. the potters, ignoring sirius’ claims they didn’t have to, bought him a moderate amount of items including but not limited to clothes, school materials, and various items for the room he’d already claimed at their house. when his inheritance kicked in, he tried to pay them back. they refused.

sirius was always more afraid of his father than his mother (which is the opposite of regulus). the reason is that his mother was more concerned with appearances outside the family, but was content to simply act as if sirius didn’t exist when they were at home, which was fine for both of them (and on some occasions, the worst that would happen is she’d scream and yell and be generally unpleasant, and true she’d be the one to force a hair cut or destroy his ‘revolting’ muggle/gryffindor items). however his father was the disciplinarian. his father rarely raised his voice, but was the first to raise a hand or wand to correct behaviors or punish misbehaviors, and though sirius would stand up for himself and was not scared into silence, there were many instances where he would show up to the potters in the middle of the night, or return from mandatory holidays during the school year, with signs of magically induced injury.

following that, sirius is always the first to jump to the defense of others, completely disregarding his own safety or the danger of the situation, and has been known to laugh in the face of those that think they can fight him, and generally doesn’t react to anyone who rises to attack him either verbally or physically, but whenever his father even shifted slightly, sirius would tense and brace, and there were several instances in public where a disagreement would start and though often the marauder’s were nearby and out of ear shot, they’d know things were going poorly because sirius, who never ever shows fear to anyone, would flinch

it’s clear from prisoner of azkaban that sirius could have escaped at any point. all he did was become padfoot and get past the dementors who weren’t looking for or caring about animals (literally his words). there is no true reason he had to wait twelve years except for dramatic story telling. that being said, the shock of the situation prevented any of this from logically settling in his mind for the first few weeks, and then after that, the dementors and their constant soulsucking presence did make it easier for sirius to blame himself for james and lily dying. he convinced them to make their secret keeper peter instead of him, he didn’t try hard enough to keep them safe, he should’ve actually killed peter, fuck what’s happening to harry, where is he, does anyone care about him, is he being taken care of, what’s remus doing, does remus think sirius did it, does remus hate him, is remus okay, it’s another full moon please let remus be okay, fuck if he gets out he’s going to strangle peter --- on and on, and it definitely gave him a huge amount of guilt on his shoulders, and regret, and despair, and while i personally don’t think it would have taken him 12 years to finally fucking decide to leave, it definitely did take several, especially since telling time within the walls of azkaban is near impossible

ON THAT NOTE, HOWEVER, it is this very guilt and anger that allowed him to muster the determination to finally fucking escape. even amidst all this guilt and fear and sorrow, sirius was strong enough to stay sane under the influence of the dementors and his own perceived failure, that he consciously made the decision to trick his way out. it was this very fury he felt towards peter and the injustice that he suffered because of his coward of a supposed best friend that fueled sirius’ ability to withstand the trails of being a prisoner at the worst wizarding prison. once his guilt subsisded enough for pure unadulterated hate to seep in, it was just a matter of deciding the best time to stage an escape

I REPEAT, I DO NOT BELIEVE IT TOOK HIM 12 YEARS at most, i would figure, personally, it happened in four or five. which, while following my canon divergent main verse, would still allow time for sirius to clear his name and fight for custody of harry, which he does successfully, by my canon, when harry is about seven. SO EVEN IF sirius isn’t instantly cleared as my main verse would like, he still winds up a single dad.

he has horrible nightmares after azkaban, regardless of when he gets out or how long he was there or whether he ends up raising harry. i personally would have it so that he and remus end up living together, both because sirius has his inheritance to support them, and because they’re the last two marauders and trusting others is hard for sirius to come by after everything, so living with remus is Safe and Easy, and he does everything he fucking can to make up for all the full moons he missed, but regardless of how Hard he tries to get back to some semblance of a normal life, he has severe ptsd from prison and he doesn’t sleep well and he doesn’t eat much and he drinks more (in verses where he doesn’t have custody) and he smokes a shit ton more and he spends more time as padfoot than he does as a human because being a dog is just so much simpler and he has fewer worries, and remus is fucking worried as shit about him because sirius was always the strongest of the four of them (fight me on this i dare you) and to see the confident, arrogant, and generally easy-going carefree rebel that was sirius black in school turned into a jumpy, irritable, shattered shell of himself is hard and sirius never truly recovers from that damage, he just gets better at hiding it, and he does a hell of a lot better at healing when he does have custody of harry because harry gives him purpose in a way that remus can’t.

when sirius inevitably comes across peter again, he does try to kill him. whether he genuinely fails or subconsciously stops himself because peter, as much as sirius resents and hates and would love to grind him into little rat pieces, was a friend and was someone sirius trusted and cherished and would have protected with his life, and no matter how much he very much wants to kill the bastard, he can’t

shifting gears a bit, but sirius had never and still doesn’t really see himself ever getting married. he never even wanted kids until harry came around, and even then, the only kid he’ll ever have is in my canon divergency where he raises harry himself. in that verse he is more open to a co-parenting relationship (re: when he’s with @gavrele‘s gabe, or if he were to be with remus or another marauder’s era character who survived either by au or in canon), which can be considered romantic or merely a mutual desire to raise this orphaned child, but in that instance, he still probably wouldn’t want marriage, because it makes him seriously uncomfortable just thinking about it, and at the very most he would just agree to mutually wear signifying rings but not actually make it official, so that way if at any point he does feel weird about it he won’t feel bad about taking the ring off for a few days until the feeling passes

he learns of regulus’ dying while he’s in azkaban and listen canon sirius was very ‘meh’ about the whole deal, which really pisses me off, so my sirius was very torn. and it doesn’t help that most people just write reggie off as disappearing, they don’t know the story, they just assume he died in the war or voldemort disposed of him or something, doesn’t matter, he learns that regulus is gone, and his father is gone, and his mother ends up dying shortly before he gets out, and sirius is alone really and truly, and when he returns home for the first time in years, he manages to convince kreacher to explain the situation because even if he doesn’t particularly like kreacher, they both loved regulus, and sirius crafts a makeshift grave for his brother which he visits reguluarly, and though he doesn’t usually say much except “hey reg”, the first time he broke down sobbing because he tried so hard to get regulus to see the right side of the war, but he didn’t try hard enough, and he should’ve worked harder to keep reg safe, what an awful brother he was, he only ever thought of himself, if he just took regulus with him when he ran away maybe they could’ve avoided this, fuck he’s sorry he fucked up, he’s so proud that regulus stood up to voldemort in the end, he doesn’t care if it was for selfishness or fear or whatever, he’s so proud, he wishes regulus would know how proud he is

he actively keeps harry as safe as possible, doesn’t let half the shit that happens happen to him, fully supports and listens to him whenever the kid says ‘something is going on”, talks with him through it, tells him all the stories of james and lily that he can, never treats harry as less than his own blooded son because to him harry is his son, but he also never tries to replace james with himself, and harry knows how much sirius loved james and lily and how sirius only wants harry to be safe and happy, and merlin did he cry the first time harry called him dad and told him that he knows sirius isn’t his real dad but its okay to have more than one dad, he still loves james too he just loves sirius as much, and when he saw sirius almost crying, he asked if that was okay, and sirius could not express how absolutely perfect that was and later when talking to remus, remus had to hold a conflicted sirius for at least half an hour because he adored the idea but god he misses james so much, he wishes this wasnt the situation but it is and fuck it hurts (remus is uncle, by the way)

he literally stands between snape and harry, and dumbledore and harry, and does not let lucius anywhere near harry (and only allows cissa after a tentative no-children meeting, where they agree to not be enemies but rather awkward cousins like they are, and sometimes even let draco and harry play together) and harry is raised knowing about the prophecy, and since he’s raised in the wizarding world he’s not a commodity, by the time he starts hogwarts, everyone has kind of gotten over the hype so he can be mostly normal, and yeah strange things keep happening but the second harry tells sirius (because harry is raised in an open and loving environment where talking about things is encouraged), sirius does shit about it, and yeah voldemort wasn’t vanquished, he is still waiting, and sirius can’t be everywhere, but when harry says voldemort is back, sirius fucking rallies and essentially one-man-armies the ministry into fucking doing something about it because he lived through that hell in his last few years of hogwarts, he lost friends to it, he is not going to watch it happen again and nothing is going to hurt harry period

naturally, this means he doesn’t die in the department of mysteries because when the dreams start happening, harry talks about them with him, and they work it out together.

sirius doesn’t get a job because he doesn’t need one, and all of harry’s inheritance from james is purely harry’s, sirius doesn’t touch an ounce of it, and in fact regularly adds to it of his own inheritance, but sirius is seen roaming random places offering assistance, usually in regards to muggle nonsense (think hands on mechanics stuff) because he’s good at it and he doesn’t know what to do with his time, but he never lets them pay

he helps fund the weasley’s prank store. ron is a little odd, and hermione is sometimes annoying, and boy does he have a soft spot for neville because sirius knows about his parents, and you can bet that rather than lifting the map from filch, sirius straight up gave it to fred and george, and remus later confiscated it from his now-permanent DADA position (or whatever position remus wants, tbh) and sirius got an earful before telling remus he knew the other would give it back to them, which he did

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day Two Hundred Thirty: Zero Gravity ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata, Yūhi Kurenai ] [ SasuHina, blood ] [ Verse: Like Magic ] [ AO3 Link ]

With a few days of classes under his belt, Sasuke finally makes it to one of them he’s most excited for.

Well, it’s not a class, per se - it’s more like a small series of lessons. And those lessons are centered around flying. Sasuke’s flown a bit at home on a little broomstick his brother used to use, but their mother is rather adamant about their safety...so he hasn’t had a chance to really get to a real height or speed. He’s hoping they’ll get to break into that a bit during these sessions.

Of course...there’s also the rule that first years can’t be on the Quidditch team, which he sorely regrets. His brother is currently Slytherin’s Seeker. Sasuke...isn’t sure what role he’d like. Probably either Keeper or Chaser. He’s a bit lacking in brute strength to be much use as a Beater, and...well, there won’t be any hoping to be Seeker until Itachi graduates after next year. From what little practice he’s had, he is rather agile in the air. So maybe once his brother leaves school, the position might be one he could have.

...that is...if he makes the team, and convince the captain to let him have it. But that’s what tryouts are for.

For now, however, he’s stuck with the beginner’s lessons. This time around, Slytherin is having theirs with the Hufflepuff first years. Though most of his new friends are in his own house, Sasuke has started a tentative friendship with the little Hufflepuff girl that’s been helping him in Charms class: specifically with the levitation charm that gave him so much trouble. So when he notices the yellow-tinged robes of the other house, he can’t help but perk up a bit.

Hinata, on the other hand...doesn’t really want to do this whole flying thing. As typical as the image is of a witch flying on a broomstick, she’s not exactly the sort to want to put herself dozens or hundreds of feet up in the air. She likes both feet planted firmly on the ground, thank you very much. But...flying lessons are required, so she prepares to grit her teeth and get through it. She, unlike Sasuke, has never touched a broom in her life...nor would her father let her, even if she had the inclination. Which she didn’t. And still doesn’t, even as they all gather around the broomsticks lying atop the castle lawn.

But at least when she looks over the Slytherin class, she recognizes the boy from Charms class. Sure, he’s a Slytherin, and...well, they have their reputations. But he’s proven - at least in Hinata’s eyes - to be a very well to do boy. Maybe a bit pompous, but...well, it comes with the territory. Hinata is also from a pureblood family, but to her, it’s not very important.

At the head of the rows of brooms is a woman of wild black hair and ruddy brown eyes, hawkishly looking at the lot of them. “Greetings everyone, and welcome to your first flying lesson! I am madam Yūhi, and I will be your flying instructor. While many of you have likely had time to fly at home, many of you have not. Thus, we will begin at the very beginning. To those with some experience, I beg your patience as we catch up the rest of your classmates. Now...everyone, step up to a boom, with the broomstick on your dominant side!”

At once, everyone shuffles awkwardly, trying to arrange themselves properly. Sasuke keeps his broom on the left, while Hinata’s is on the right.

“Now, hover your hand over the broom, and command, ‘up’! It may take you several tries: be clear, firm, and direct!”

Sasuke, already versed in lifting a broom, does so on his first try. The handle fights him a bit with strength, but he just grins as others around him struggle to get their broom to obey.

...Hinata is one of them.

Shying back from her broom a bit, not wanting it to rise up and hit her, she mumbles, “U...up!”

...nothing.

Sighing, she inches a bit closer. “...up!”

The broom gives a small twitch, but...remains upon the grass.

Cheeks puffing a bit as her stubbornness arises, she then barks, “Up!”

With a leap, the broom slaps against her palm, earning a small squeal of surprise.

Beside her, a boy - distracted - gets whacked in the face by his own. Immediately his nose breaks, dribbling blood as he gives a cry.

Sighing curtly, madam Yūhi shakes her head. “Off to the infirmary with you!”

“B-but -!”

“You can’t fly with an injury like that.” Making up her mind, Kurenai gives a clap. “Everyone, I want you to remain grounded until I return from the infirmary. Anyone who disobeys will be banned from flying for the rest of their school career. Understood?” Receiving a chorus of yes ma’ams, she escorts the bleeding Hufflepuff boy back toward the castle.

Everyone else wilts in disappointment at the delay.

“Leave it to a Hufflepuff to be dimwitted enough to break his nose with a broom,” a Slytherin guffaws, earning laughter from a few of his classmates.

“Hey!” Stomping her foot, a Hufflepuff retorts, “It was an honest mistake! Like you’ve never done anything wrong when you first tried it?”

Leaning on his broom and grinning cheekily, the boy snaps back, “Not badly enough to break my nose! You ‘puffs are all the same: a bunch of ninnies who can’t tell your front from your rear!”

Red flushes angrily across the girl’s face. “W-well at least we aren’t a bunch of jerks!”

Rumblings begin to grow from both sides. Hinata, already short for a first year, hangs back as the two sides start to inch forward.

Sasuke, however, isn’t quite so timid. “Knock it off,” he growls, stepping up to his classmate with a scowl.

“Why?”

“Because you’re proving her point, you nitwit.”

“Who you callin’ a nitwit, shrimp?”

“Any idea who you’re talking to? I’m an Uchiha,” Sasuke bites back.

“Like I give a rip!” Shifting his stance, the bully takes him by the front of his robes. “T’hell you sidin’ with the ‘puffs for, anyway? Sure the Sorting Hat didn’t muck up your house?”

“If you really think Hufflepuff is a house of morons, I think you’re the one who got sorted wrong!” Sasuke manages to grunt, trying to pry off the grip.

Something ugly twists the other boy’s face. “...oh, you’re gonna regret that…!” Swinging a leg over his broom and keeping ahold of Sasuke’s robes, the other Slytherin takes to the sky above the lawn in one swoop.

At once, everyone panics. Hinata feels her heart leap to her throat as they all run to keep up.

“Put him down!”

“You’re gonna drop him!”

“Get down here, you’re gonna get in so much trouble!”

Clinging to the bully’s arms and going deathly pale in fear, Sasuke listens as his harasser laughs. “Not so tough now, are ya? Be a shame if you fell from here, eh? Apologize, and I’ll put you down!”

Robes cutting off his air, Sasuke can’t only gasp in reply.

“Is that a no? Well...don’t say I didn’t warn ya…!” Grinning maliciously, he releases his grip. For a few moments, Sasuke manages to keep hold...but sweaty palms betray him, and he plummets back toward the lawn, too shocked to even scream.

Collective gasps and cries ring out as everyone freezes. But one among them darts into action. Sprinting out and drawing her wand from her robes, Hinata swishes and flicks, shouting, “Wingardium leviosa!”

Suddenly, it’s like gravity disappears. Slowing to a stop, Sasuke hovers in midair a good fifteen feet off the ground. Shaking and on the verge of sobbing, he collapses as Hinata gently guides him down.

For a moment, things go still. And then, in a roar, the Hufflepuffs all swamp their classmate with praise and hugs.

“You did it!”

“You saved him!”

“That was amazing, Hyūga!”

Sasuke, however, is left to recover alone, his classmates torn between the two sides of the argument.

Drowning in robes and arms, Hinata manages to break free of the crowd, stumbling out to where Sasuke is still trying to stand on shaking knees. “Sasuke…!” Taking to her knees, she latches onto him, burying her face in his shoulder as he stiffens. “Oh thank goodness...I-I was so scared…!”

Heart still racing and breath panting, Sasuke hesitantly grips her back. “...you...you really saved me…”

“I...I just -”

“How’d you...do that? Think so fast?”

At that, she goes pink, leaning back a bit in his hold. “I just...knew I had to. A-after all, it...i-it was how we met...right?”

...huh. Yeah. Staring a moment longer, he then manages a shaky grin. “...reckon I owe you for that.”

“N-no...I’m just glad you’re okay.”

The pair smile at each other, and then realize...everyone is watching them. Shuffling apart, they both turn sheepish just as madam Yūhi returns.

“...what on earth is going on here?”

At once, the Hufflepuffs rush to explain, while Slytherins try to deflect. Still apart from the others, Hinata and Sasuke just watch until she calls for silence, striding up to the pair of them.

“...is it true? That boy hauled you up, and miss Hyūga caught you with a levitation charm, mister Uchiha?”

“...yes ma’am,” Sasuke murmurs, ignoring the expectant looks of his housemates.

“...I see. Well, I’m glad you aren’t hurt. Hinata, your quick-thinking just earned you one hundred house points. I won’t penalize Slytherin, given one of you was the victim...but as promised, the perpetrator will have flying privileges revoked for the remainder of his years at school. Now...I think that’s enough excitement for one day. We’ll try again next week. Dismissed!”

Mixed reactions pass through the crowds, and the pair of them find their feet. “...are you sure you’re okay?” Hinata murmurs.

“Yeah...a little, uh...freaked out. But no, I’m fine. Thanks, Hinata. I really do owe you.”

Hinata’s head ducks bashfully, twiddling her fingers. “...I’m just glad you didn’t get hurt. That must have been so scary…”

“Yeah…”

With the class block over, they give another nervous glance. “I...guess I’ll see you around…?”

“Y-yeah. See...see you later.” With that, they part ways for their next classes, each a bit quieter than usual.

And with that, well...there was no denying they’d each officially made a friend, no matter the house lines.
