When it comes to his own kingdom, he dislikes the guilty until proven innocent mentality held by many people - as his father was never a well-liked king, many would assume Shoto to be the same & called for his banishment during preparations for a revolution. The idea was to take the Todoroki family out of power, although Shoto was part of it & an inside source in the castle, which lead to him being locked away for a year until Enji was overthrown & Shoto was released. Even after it came out that he’d done all he could to help, many people called for his execution rather than the idea of him ruling the kingdom - those in charge were quick to deny the public this, although it did come with the warning he would be killed should he step out of line.

So, in short: he dislikes that people are so quick to judge others for the mistakes of their family, especially without knowing them - the reason being personally dealing with this.

In the world as it stands, he dislikes the fact the hunting of non-human creatures tends to be common! Very few kingdoms have laws against it & several, like his own, actively encouraged it. In specific, this is the murder of ‘dangerous’ creatures & Shoto does, eventually, put in laws for their protection, hoping other kingdoms may follow suit.

AU Canon for: Vampire AU, Fantasy 01 & Fantasy 02!

When it comes to other intelligent races, it really does depend on the verse!

In fantasy 01, Shoto is civil with non-human intelligent species - whether this is demons, werewolves, vampires etc. While Shoto himself is a half-demon mage - his mother being an ice demon and his father a human mage king - he isn’t particularly connected with others. Being the prince of his kingdom, he is very much civil with others but, overall, holds little regard for anyone in the kingdom due to his longing to escape his duties. He is, however, as kind as possible to others when he is around them - due to the bad reputation demons have, Shoto is inclined to hide his heritage as well. Overall: Shoto is neutral towards non-humans, albeit he holds dislike toward human mages.

In fantasy 02, Shoto has much higher regard for non-humans! In this verse, after leaving his home to escape, he is taken in by two dragons (Izuku played by quirkdysfunction & Katsuki played by entangledheroes). Due to this, Shoto has a care for non-humans & more of a reason to surround himself with others, especially due to the bond he has with the two dragons - often, he is referred to as a packmate by them. He does, however, think that sometimes there is a disconnect between non-humans and the idea they have of humans, considering he is often referred to as useless by them. Overall: Shoto holds a care for non-humans & thinks highly of them.

In vampire au, Shoto hates non-humans. Being a vampire, he has had his entire life stolen from him when he was turned by his father - having been born as a half-vampire to a human mother - when he was 17. Being several hundred years old, his disconnect from the rest of the world has caused this anger to become resentment for everyone. He hates being non-human himself &, due to a fear of hurting others, remains in the woods & starves himself of blood. If anyone non-human or human came anywhere near him, Shoto would be likely to lash out & so, he has many signs about the disregard for life he holds should anyone dare to try and find them. Overall: he very much dislikes all intelligent races, not just non-humans.

In other verses featuring non-humans (yokai, fantasy 03, sailor etc, Shoto is neutral towards non-humans. In his vampire hunter verse, he both fears & pities them.

IF THERE WAS ANYONE MORE LOYAL TO HIS FAMILY THAN THE IIDA’S SHOTO WOULD BE SURPRISED, considering he was aware both the sons had trained as knights & if he’d recalled correctly, the elder of the two brothers had once been assigned to one of his siblings for a temporary time. He wasn’t sure, however, considering it was all just hearsay from various people he’d had the displeasure of speaking with over the years, never having liked the off-handed comments & insults aimed at himself & the rest of his family.

❝Iida.❞ Monotonously called out as he approached his knight, head held high as ever in false pride, sword hanging from his belt. While they’d been back for a short while from the little adventure he’d been dragged on by Midoriya Izuku, Shoto had yet to speak with the other regarding a thing, quickly swept off to report the details of the trip to his father & resume the rather gruesome training he had been dealing with for the past several years.

❝You weren’t at breakfast today. Isn’t part of your job to accompany me places or has my father told you to stop following me around like a lost kitten?❞ It wasn’t intended to be an insult to the other’s character, merely a question of where he’d been, but Shoto was never the best at phrasing things kindly & considering the feelings of others, still struggling to have empathy for the common man after years of being locked up in the castle with no one for company.

Bruised fingers on hands that fell at his side, a cut on his cheek from the blade of a sword & the weariness in his voice was unavoidable, a sign that there had been at least some trouble concerning his training since returning. ❝Walk with me around the castle gardens, Iida. I’m not meant to be unsupervised, according to the king, & you’re my knight so the duty of babysitting me falls to you.❞

 ( besides, you’re the only person i can trust. )

❝I should have mentioned it earlier, but... I admit, I was very afraid to tell you what I’m about to.❞ He had spoken once more when they were outside & out of earshot of everyone else, as if afraid he may be punished for it. ❝I didn’t want to have a soulmate, when I met you. I was content to be on my own because I’d seen such pain come to my parents, who were also a sole pair. My father was a cruel man, my mother much too kind & trusting. I was terrified of being like either one, but in the end, I hurt you with my denial, didn’t I?❞

After all, he’d heard what Tenya had said to Izuku when it was assumed Shoto was sleeping, heard all about the other explain he had never met his soulmate, but that the timer had stopped anyway. More often than not, that only happened to people whose soulmates had died before meeting, the number reaching the much-anticipated 00:00:00 instantly, regardless of how high the number once was.

❝I admit, I also didn’t believe myself deserving of love, especially not from you, & I thought that perhaps by allowing you to believe your soulmate was dead, you’d have moved on & met someone you could love.❞ Hesitantly, he rolled up his sleeve to reveal his own timer, the design perfectly matching Tenya’s & the numbers both the same. He held out his wrist to Tenya for the other to inspect should he wish to & to touch should he want to.

❝I’m sorry that I caused you such pain because of my selfish delusions, Tenya, but I don’t ask for your forgiveness nor do I ask for a chance... I believed you deserved to know, after so long, but you know that I cannot be with you. Not now, at least, & maybe not for the longest time. My father would call for exile, claiming you’d seduced me, & I am expected to marry a woman in order to give an heir... I’m sorry, Tenya, that I can’t be yours.❞

(Fantasy verse) Aoiro climbs in through his window, as one does, with a flower crown in hand. She’s already wearing one on her head, the dark flowers contrasting her light hair. “I know it’s late but I missed you and these flowers reminded me of you.” Was that weird? She wasn’t sure. “Funny how your perspective changes after you meet someone.”

WHEN SOMEONE APPEARED BY THE WINDOW, Shoto was quick to draw his sword, hiding close to it yet still out of sight. He’d been about to point it at her when he heard Kasai’s voice, a sigh of relief leaving him as he placed the sword back against the wall, moving closer to her. Perhaps if he had been more awake, he’d have told her off for it, advised her not to do such a thing due to the dangers that it held. However, Shoto was sleepy and he enjoyed Kasai’s company too much to drive her away with a stern lecture.

❝I think it’s simply natural to think of the people we love.❞ He stated, simply, bowing to her to allow her to place the flower crown on his head easily, assuming that’s why she was holding a one that wasn’t on her head.❝I often think of you, Kasai, when I see many things, too many to even begin to speak of them… I missed you as well, however. I always do.❞

He’s never celebrated New Year’s before.

Well, he has, but not in the same sense as others. His father would hold a ball, and there would be festivals, but Shoto was always stiff - the festivals he could not attend, and the dance he could not enjoy. It was simply political, he had to remain looking serious.

So really, when she had kissed him, Shoto hadn’t known how else to react other than back away and stumble, falling onto the floor. He’d not been expecting it, especially not so late at night. “Kasai-” He choked out, trying to regain his breath. “While- I appreciate this-” He pushed himself into a sitting position.

“And you know I love your kisses.” He continued, awkwardly. “Why did you surprise attack me with- your lips?”

“ABOUT FANTASY AU; WHAT DO YOU IMAGINE TODOROKI'S REACTION TO ONE OF THE FAMILY MEMBERS HE'S LOOKING FOR MAYBE TURNING TO EVIL, OR BEING USED FOR EVIL? AND MAYBE DO YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF WHERE YOU THINK HIS MOTHER WAS SENT? DOES TODOROKI? AND DOES HE PREFER TO TRAVEL ALONE?”

If he found out they were evil, he would be disappointed - but ultimately, he would fight against them, if regretful of how it turned out.

If they were being used for evil, he would try his best to save them (even if it resulted in injury or death for him)

My idea of where his mother went was that she was sent to another kingdom and banned from returning to Enji’s - most likely, she would not return due to a threat on her life or the life of one of her children.

Shoto does not know, although he’s heard rumours of an ice elemental mage from another kingdom. He was not allowed to travel to that kingdom or investigate the claims, however.

Shoto does prefer to travel alone, as he finds it much easier to go and do his own things if he can travel by himself. However, he rarely has a chance to travel alone - or travel at all, really.

Shoto despises the privilege of those in power.

He hates that he lives in a world where abuse is ignored simply because someone high up within royal courts is the one committing it, he hates that everyone ignored pleas for help from a child being beaten daily by his father simply because it was their king and they believed there must be a valid reason for it - that it was no more than a punishment, when it wasn’t. It wasn’t a punishment, it was simply the lifestyle he was forced to live, beaten into the ground in an attempt to beat the rebel out of him, in an attempt to mould him into the perfect successor, a man just like his father.

He hates that people stand by idly, waiting for change, yet publicly criticise those who finally stand up for what they believe in, whether it is peace or that people should be able to feel safe, whether they advocate against war or for love or for the people to be treated well, for wealth to be shared instead of held by the 1%. Even if it is agreed with, people are afraid of the retaliation if they don’t act as if they disagree, leading to a kingdom in which bravery is frowned upon and noncompliance is a death sentence.

Most of all, he hates that the very men who rule are those who will kill and lie and cheat, who will ruin others until nothing is left but broken fragments of their soul - and then, men like that, they simply laugh in the wake of what they’ve destroyed.
