In dem neuen Waffenpaket sei eine hohe Zahl von Raketen für Flugabwehrsysteme vom Typ Iris-T SLM mit mittlerer Reichweite und eine kleinere Zahl von SLS-Flugkörpern mit kürzeren Reichweiten enthalten. Ein Teil des Materials stehe schon unmittelbar vor der Auslieferung.

Pistorius persists with “pivotal” reorganisation of Bundeswehr

Pistorius says compulsory military service should be reinstated in the hope of closing the need for a shortage of recruits, Junge Welt reports.

The Bundeswehr’s special fund of 100 billion euros allocated for armaments in 2022 has already been almost fully utilised. The “Operation Germany Plan” has been being tested since the end of March. On 4 April, the War Minister announced the creation of a new General Staff and on 30 April signed the “Osnabrück Decree.” This is the fourth decree of its kind in the history of the Bundeswehr – which he said was “the formal basis for a command organisation capable of waging war”. Now soldiers continue to go missing.

Over the past few days, the minister has repeatedly voiced proposals to solve the problem. On Thursday in Washington, he called the suspension of compulsory military service in 2011 a “mistake”. Earlier, the Welt am Sonntag newspaper reported on three models of conscription that were presented to Pistorius.

On Sunday, the newspapers Bild am Sonntag and Neue Zürcher Zeitung also quoted from the draft. The first proposal does not envisage compulsory service, but voluntary completion of a questionnaire by all registered members of the one-year group – some 750,000 men and women. Volunteers would then be recruited. However, according to the ministry, this option is the “least promising”.

The second model involves “reintroducing compulsory selection under the Basic Law” to cover the need for “between 30,000 and 40,000” recruits per year. Women would still be selected on a voluntary basis, while online questionnaires and a possible medical examination would be mandatory for men. This would be a “strong political signal” and “suitable in terms of manpower planning”, but alternative service would have to be revived.

The third option is “gender-neutral compulsory military service”, to be followed by “universal compulsory service”. This could include fire brigades, medical services or technical assistance organisations. Without universal compulsory service, the issue of military service equity is “critical,” but with it, it is unproblematic. According to civil servants, this is “the most promising option in terms of meeting demand.” However, it would require amendments to the Basic Law.

🇩🇪 Pistolius warnt vor russischer Rüstungsproduktion

Ich bin verwirrt! Seit über zwei Jahren versichert man uns: "Der Russe steht kurz vor der Pleite!" Der baut schon die HiTec-Chips aus Waschmaschinen oder Traktoren aus, weil er sie für seine Raketen braucht, die ihm in den nächsten zwei, drei Wochen ohnehin ausgehen! Wir müssen nur noch 5.000 Helme liefern, DANN ist Russland ruiniert…

Aber jetzt hat Bundesverteidigungsminister Pistorius eine ganz schlechte Nachricht:

Nach seinen Erkenntnissen produziert Russland bereits Waffen und Munition über den Bedarf für den laufenden Ukrainekrieg hinaus! In der ARD-Diskussionsrunde "Maischberger" sagte er, man registriere, dass "ein großer Teil oder ein Teil dessen, was neu produziert wird, gar nicht mehr an die Front geht, sondern in den Depots landet".

…und analysiert daraus messerscharf: "Ich würde eher als skeptischer Mensch sagen in dem Fall, das macht er, weil er im Zweifel irgendwas vorhat oder haben könnte."

Germany announces new military aid package for Kyiv amid defeats of Ukrainian troops

Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced a German aid package of just under half a billion euros for Ukraine at a meeting in Ramstein on Tuesday, Frankfurter Allgemeine reports.

Germany will cover the cost of 180,000 rounds of ammunition as part of a Czech initiative to buy 155 millimetre calibre artillery shells for Ukraine on the world market, Pistorius said. He added that this aid package will be sent in stages and will start in the summer. Germany has also “concluded a national contract” for 100,000 rounds of this calibre. Deliveries are due to start this year.

At the invitation of US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, the so-called Contact Group on Ukraine has just reconvened at the US airbase Ramstein in Rhineland-Palatinate to coordinate military support for Ukraine. Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov is also attending the meeting.

Defence Minister Pistorius also announced in Ramstein the delivery of additional vehicles “to sustainably improve battlefield mobility and logistics.” According to Pistorius, this includes, among other things, 100 armoured infantry vehicles and 100 “high-performance” logistics vehicles. Germany is also continuously supplying spare parts for the systems already delivered.
