Utterly magnificent "La Fenice," is a 1936 restored Chalet in Cervinia, Italy. The name means "The Phoenix," b/c it was purchased as "a rather nice ruin," and underwent a 5 yr. renovation. Now, the 7bd, 7ba home is the most expensive chalet priced at approx. $26,110,440. It has a direct 360 degree view of the Swiss Matterhorn to the north and the Italian Alps to the south.
Tumblr media
The magnificent entrance is open to a balcony with cascading, glistening lights and a direct Alpine view.
Tumblr media
Isn't this magnificent? There's also a view of the terrace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It has rustic chalet style, but they added elegant touches, such as the long chandelier suspended from a mirrored coffered ceiling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A sunny sitting room with a great view is off the living room.
Tumblr media
The same chandelier and ceiling grace the large dining room. (No pics of the kitchen- remember the very wealthy only care about the dining room, b/c they don't do the cooking.)
Tumblr media
Check the gorgeous stone wine cellar beautifully lighted and featuring elegant wrought iron and 2 wine fridges.
Tumblr media
Plush upholstered seating in the home theater.
Tumblr media
The home gym. I love how they did the lights in this home.
Tumblr media
This must be the primary suite. Built-in velvet canopy over the bed matches the headboard.
Tumblr media
The walk-in closet/dressing room has a luxurious banquette and a chandelier.
Tumblr media
Relax in the indoor pool while looking at the snowy alps after skiing all day.
Tumblr media
Check out the pool at night. It has a water fall, purple lighting, and what looks like a shoreline.
Tumblr media
Or, if you prefer, there's a hot tub outside.

Hot tub in summer.

The current owners bought it 11 yrs. ago and spent 5 yrs. restoring it.

The cable of a chairlift in Cervinia is damaged, it's yellow: unknown persons acted with a flexible cable, two more episodes in 2015
The steel cable of a ski lift on the Cervinia ski slopes was damaged by unknown persons, probably with a flexible hose. ANSA learned this. The Cervino spa company, which manages the area, discovered it this morning and reported the incident to the police. The damaged cable is that of the Cielo Alto chairlift: it was not severed, but chipped. The chairlift remained closed all day after the control…

[ad_1] A new cable car between Italy and Switzerland allows for a superb alpine crossing without the need for skis or hiking boots. But is Matterhorn Alpine Crossing worth it? The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing between Switzerland and Italy opened in July 2023. The cable car journey links 9 different stations on the 90-minute trip. Beginning at 1,620m in Zermatt, it climbs to the incredible views of Klein Matterhorn at 3,883m. From the peak, it descends to Breuil- Cervinia at 2,050m. With over 4,000m of ascent and descent, the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing has the largest elevation change of any cable car link in the Alps. The journey became possible in July 2023 when a new cable car connected Plateau Rosa and Klein Matterhorn. The new cable car is not cheap, but it brings together two iconic ski resorts with a host of wonderful things to do. Here’s all you need to know about the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing and whether it’s worth the hefty price of the tickets. UPDATES // We do our best to keep the information in this guide up to date, if you notice anything has changed, please leave a comment below. BOOKINGS // Booking your trip via the links in this guide will earn us a small commission, at no extra cost to you. Thanks for your support – Paul & Mark. TESTA GRIGIA TO KLEIN MATTERHORN CABLE CAR WHAT IS THE MATTERHORN ALPINE CROSSING? The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing is the highest cross-country cable car in the world. It connects Zermatt in Switzerland with Breuil-Cervinia in Italy. The crossing takes about 90 minutes. This involves 8 cable car journeys connecting 9 different cable car stations – 5 in Switzerland and 4 in Italy. The entire return journey (3 hours return) covers 4,000 meters of ascent and descent. As a result, the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing is the cable car link with the greatest altitude difference in Europe. The highlight is the views from Klein Matterhorn, the highest cable car station on the course, at 3,883m. From here you can see the pyramidal Matterhorn and climbers ascending snow-covered Breithorn. Each cable car station has its attractions and there are opportunities to get out and explore. PLAN MAISON CABLE CAR MAP | MATTERHORN ALPINE CROSSING The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing connects Zermatt in Switzerland with Breuil-Cervinia in Italy. Our map below includes all the stops between Switzerland and Italy. >> How to use this map / Click on the top left of the map to display the list of locations, then click on the locations to display further information. Click on the top right corner of the map to open a larger version in a new tab or the star to save to your Google Maps.   WHEN DID THE MATTERHORN ALPINE CROSSING START? The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing commenced on July 1, 2023, after the completion of the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II. The highest part of the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing is Klein Matterhorn at 3,883m. It sits on a high-altitude ridge between the mountains of Matterhorn (4,478m) and Breithorn (4,164m). The northern side of the ridge drops to the Swiss town of Zermatt, while the southern side drops to Breuil-Cervinia in Italy. MATTERHORN GLACIER RIDE I The Matterhorn Glacier Ride I has been running from Zermatt to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise on Klein Matterhorn since 1979. The cable car from Breuil-Cervinia on the Italian side, however, stopped at Plateau Rosa station. The Matterhorn Glacier Ride II bridged the 1.6-kilometer gap between Plateau Rosa and Klein Matterhorn. MATTERHORN FROM MATTERHORN GLACIER RIDE I MATTERHORN GLACIER RIDE II The Matterhorn Glacier Ride II opened on July 1, 2023. The new connection between Plateau Rosa and the Klein Matterhorn takes 4 minutes. The journey bridges the 1.6-kilometer section over the Theodul Glacier. The state-of-the-art ride features a rotating cabin so you can take in the whole view without leaving your seat. With the final piece of the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing now complete, visitors can travel from Italy to Switzerland by cable car.
TESTA GRIGIA BEFORE THE MATTERHORN GLACIER RIDE II TESTA GRIGIA & MATTERHORN GLACIER RIDE II WHEN DOES THE MATTERHORN ALPINE CROSSING OPERATE? Cable car services from Italy to Switzerland operate from July to October. The first car leaves from both Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia at 6.30 am. The last car returns to Italy from Zermatt at 2.45 pm, and the last cable car returns to Switzerland from Breuil Cervinia at 3 pm. Other sections of the cable car link operate at different times throughout the year. Check online before your trip. Breuil-Cervinia Website Matterhorn Website BREITHORN HIKERS FROM KLEIN MATTERHORN DO YOU NEED A PASSPORT? We weren’t asked for our passports at any stage during the crossing. However, as you are traveling between countries, it’s advisable to have your passport with you. When we visited (July 2023) some of the infrastructure was still being set up, so it’s possible passport checks will happen in the future. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing is not cheap. SWITZERLAND TO ITALY CABLE CAR COSTS A return ticket from Zermatt to Klein Matterhorn costs CHF 120 between July and August, and CHF 109 between September and October. A return ticket from Zermatt to Breuil-Cervinia costs CHF 240 between July and August, and CHF 218 between September and October. Discounts – Free for children up to 8 years old. Children 9 to 16 travel at half price. Swiss Half Card reduces return ticket from Zermatt to Breuil-Cervinia to CHF147.50 CIME BIANCHE CABLE CAR ITALY TO SWITZERLAND CABLE CAR COSTS A return ticket from Breuil-Cervinia to Klein Matterhorn and back costs €120 between July and August, and €109 between September and October. A return ticket from Breuil-Cervinia to Zermatt and back costs €240 between July and August, and €218 between September and October. Discounts – Free for children up to 8 years old. Children 9 to 16 travel at half price. TESTA GRIGIA STATION CAN I TAKE LUGGAGE WITH ME? Currently, the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing does not allow for luggage transfer. There are plans for this service to be available in 2024. IS THE MATTERHORN ALPINE CROSSING WORTH IT? In our opinion, the return journey to Klein Matterhorn from Breuil-Cervinia (€120) and from Zermatt (CHF 120), is worth it for the unique panoramas. The Klein Matterhorn is one of the best viewpoints in the Alps and one of the most stunning panoramas in the world. The triangular peak of the Matterhorn rises above snow and ice and the snowy peak of Breithorn is in front of you. The mountains of Castor and Lyskamm pierce the sweeping snow and the Gornergrat train is visible on the Gornergrat glacier. Having said that, the entire crossing from Italy to Switzerland is double the price of getting to Klein Matterhorn. This is the highlight of the journey. The full crossing also takes 3 hours. This leaves little time to explore the attractions around each cable car station. In our opinion, the full crossing is not worth the cost. To help you make the decision we have included below a list of attractions at each station with a breakdown of the ticket prices to get there. TESTA GRIGIA, ITALY ZERMATT TO CERVINIA CABLE CAR STATIONS (SWISS SIDE) The journey from Zermatt to Cervinia includes 9 cable car stops. We have listed them in order from Zermatt, but you can complete the journey in either direction. 1 – ZERMATT (1,620 METRES) Opening Hours – 6:30 am to 6 pm | Last ride to Italy – 2:45 pm Zermatt is a charming Swiss town tucked into a tight valley. The town is cute with wonderful chalets perched over pedestrianised streets. It’s a cool place to grab lunch, a coffee, or stroll lanes lined with alpine chalets. Positioned under a wall of rock, the views from Zermatt are not particularly wonderful. But the tip of the Matterhorn flickers above the valley wall. Things to do at Zermatt – Ride the Gornergrat Train for magnificent views over Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn. Hike the 5 lakes from the top of the Sunnegga Funicular.
Hang out in the lovely streets of the pedestrianized town. Visit the Matterhorn Museum to learn about mountaineering, skiing, and the history of the town. ZERMATT 2 – FURI (1,867 METRES) Opening Hours – 6:30 am to 6 pm | Last ride to Italy – 2:50 pm The first stop on the Alpine Matterhorn Crossing is Furi. It’s in a lovely position, set amongst the trees and meadows. Cattle graze beside charming wooden barns. There are several atmospheric restaurants overlooking the meadows. Things to do at Furi – Cross the 100 m-long suspension bridge that hangs 90m above the Gornerschlucht gorge. Explore the Gorner Gorge from the wooden walkways above the river. Grab lunch at Bergrestaurant Blatten between Furi and Zermatt. GORNERSCHLUCHT BRIDGE FURI FURI 3 – SCHWARZSEE (2,583 METRES) – OPTIONAL Opening Hours – 8 am to 5 pm | Last ride to Italy – 3 pm It’s possible to skip the Schwarszee cable car station and go straight from Furi to Trockener Steg. But in our opinion, it’s worth visiting. Schwarzsee is the closest cable car station to the Matterhorn with excellent views of the north and east faces. The landscape is beginning to get bleak and barren, and the hut is a great spot for a warm coffee and grand views. Things to do at Schwarzsee: Peer up at the Matterhorn rising above you. Take photos of the chapel on Schwarszee lake. Hike to Hörnlihütte – Matterhorn’s base camp (3-4 hours round trip). HÖRNLIHÜTTE WALK SCHWARZSEE 4 – TROCKENER STEG (2,939 METRES) Opening Hours – 6:45 am to 4:30 pm | Last ride to Italy – 3:15 pm Trockener Steg is on the edge of the ski slopes and the highest point at which you can start summer hiking without walking on snow. It’s a barren, rocky landscape left behind by the retreat of the glacier. Things to do at Trockener Steg – Learn about the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing in the Info Cube. Hike the remnants of a glacier on the Matterhorn Glacier Trail. Join a guided Winter Snowshoe Tour. MATTERHORN GLACIER TRAIL TROCKENER STEG 5 – KLEIN MATTERHORN / MATTERHORN GLACIER PARADISE (3,883 METRES) Opening Hours – 7 am to 4:30 pm | Last ride to Italy – 3:30 pm Klein Matterhorn is the highest mountain station in Europe. It has the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise which is an unmissable experience on the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing. Surrounded by 38 four-thousand-foot peaks and 14 glaciers Klein Matterhorn is a captivating world of snow and ice. Things to do at Klein Matterhorn – Absorb breathtaking vistas from the Panoramic Viewing platform. See sparkling crystals of ice in the Glacier Palace. Get a guide and climb 4,164 meter-high Breithorn Mountain. Catch the film about the cable car construction in the cinema lounge. BREITHORN FROM MATTERHORN GLACIER PARADISE HIKERS HEADING TO BREITHORN HORNLIHÜTTE DWARFED BY MOUNTAINS ZERMATT TO CERVINIA CABLE CAR STATIONS (ITALIAN SIDE) The are 4 cable car stops on the Italian side, Testa Grigia/Plateau Rosa, Cime Bianche Laghi, and Plan Maison and Breuil-Cervinia. 6 – TESTA GRIGIA / PLATEAU ROSÁ (3,480 METRES) Opening Hours – 7 am to 4:15 pm | Last Ride to Zermatt – 3:45 pm Testa Grigia (Plateau Rosá in Italian) is the location of the Swiss / Italian border. There’s a small restaurant with excellent views and a brand-new adventure park, SnowXperience, which is due to open in August 2023. The adventure park will have year-round snow-based activities. Things to do at Testa Grigia / Plateau Rosá – Stand on the border with one foot in Switzerland and one in Italy. Go snow tubing, snowboarding, and skiing at the brand-new SnowXperience. Grab a coffee and cake at the atmospheric Rifugio Guide del Cervino. TESTA GRIGIA TO KLEIN MATTERHORN CABLE CAR 7 – CIME BIANCHE LAGHI (2,812 METRES) Opening Hours – 6:45 am to 3:55 pm | Last Ride to Zermatt – 3:30 pm Cime Bianche is set in nice landscapes but there’s not so much to do at this station. You can walk to the nearby lakes for excellent views of the Matterhorn or if you’re feeling more active, try the Breuil-Cervinia Bike Park.
Things to do at Cime Binache Laghi – Take in views of the Matterhorn and Les Grande Murailles reflecting in pretty lakes. Enjoy one of the over 100 kilometers of downhill biking trails that leave from Cime Bianche. Try some hearty Italian food at the Bar Ristorante Cime Bianche Laghi. CIME BIANCHE CABLE CAR 8 – PLAN MAISON (2,565 METRES) Opening Hours – 6:45 am to 3:55 pm | Last ride to Zermatt – 3:15 pm Plan Maison is at the heart of the ski slopes at Breuil-Cervinia. There’s a wide range of activities for both summer and winter from skiing to biking, boarding to hiking. Things to do at Plan Maison – Hike to Lago Goillet a picturesque reservoir in a glacier basin. Take one of the four mountain bike trails between Plan Maison and Cervinia. Enjoy wonderful food in an excellent setting at Rocce Nere. PLAN MAISON 9 – BREUIL-CERVINIA (2,050 METRES) Opening Hours – 6:30 am to 4:20 pm | Last ride to Zermatt – 3 pm Breuil-Cervinia is an Italian town nestled in the Aosta Valley. It’s known for its ski slopes and stunning views of the Matterhorn. While it’s not as pretty as Zermatt, it’s more dramatically set. Towering mountains seem to rise straight out of the top of the roofs of the town. Things to do at Breuil-Cervinia – Hike to Lago Blu for perfect reflections of the Matterhorn. Play a round of golf at Cervino Golf Club. Enjoy Italian Aperitivo at one of the many cool hotels dwarfed by mountains. BREUIL-CERVINIA ITALY TO SWITZERLAND CABLE CAR – SUGGESTED ITINERARIES The Italy to Switzerland cable car opens up a whole world of mountain experiences. While you may not want to do the entire crossing, you can use parts of the infrastructure to put together a great itinerary. Suggested itineraries on the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing – Go from Zermatt to Klein Matterhorn and then over to enjoy the new SnowXperience at Plateaus Rosa before returning. Go from Breuil-Cervinia to Klein Matterhorn and then over to Schwarzsee to hike to Hornlihütte base camp before returning. Go from Breuil-Cervinia to Klein Matterhorn and then over to Trockener Steg. Hike the Matterhorn Glacier Trail to Scwarzsee and then return. Thrilling ski adventures, sensational lengthy haul getaways and great cruises - just a few of the experiences you'll be able to enjoy with Club Med. Start putting these exercises into your routine now and ensure your time on-piste isn’t cut brief because you aren’t as a lot as the problem. Book your all-inclusive snow vacation with Club Med at present for days of skiing fun.
This is an exercise for many who ski at an intermediate or skilled level. It is the chance to be flown to the higher reaches of the adjacent mountains after Heliski which to ski down in virgin powder. STAR GAZING PLATFORM - Relax underneath the evening sky and enjoy the Magnificent Constellations, and shooting Stars.
You may have walked the paths of Table Mountain many instances, but have you ever accomplished it on a freewheeler? The spectacular surroundings is all the more invigorating throughout an off-road adventure, particularly if you get to feel a rush of adrenaline as you whizz down slopes. The two-hour tour begins on the top of Signal Hill for your first downhill run to Bo-Kaap, then strikes on to the lower slopes of Table Mountain, from which you descend via Deer Park.
Cape Town Helicopter’s scenic flights differ in distance, taking you over the town and harbour, alongside the Atlantic Seaboard, over Robben Island or all the finest way to Cape Point and False Bay. Trips to the Winelands can be Heli skiing Canada found, too , or elsewhere special to get pleasure from a picnic, meal, golf or safari outing. Paddling on the open ocean evokes a way of freedom and adventure.
It is right here where you are taking a break, lounging on the massive terraces soaking up the solar and letting the Matterhorn magic wash over you. Zermatt’s world-famous popularity as a top ski resort started badly. From the late Eighteen Eighties, driven by the spirit of journey, mountain-conquering British lords and gentlemen felt the need to discover the unknown − the untamed Alpine world − and pit their power Heli skiing and abilities against it. The metre Matterhorn, which dominated the skyline of the city, was a tempting problem. On your “gap year” you can benefit from the 500 sq. metres set aside purely for toys, like snowmobiles, jet skis, a helicopter and submarine. You must save enough money, choose your location and date.
Under this canopy of trees and at the edge of the Mountain one feels very small, compared to the magical views. Wander around the quaint mountain cities, from Chamonix within the shadow of Mont Blanc to fairly riverside Annecy. Enjoy a steaming glass of vin chaud with a serving to of raclette, or pick up some local comté to take home with you. Even when you’re on vacation, there are still a quantity of extra issues you are in a place to do to make certain you get probably the most from high quality time on your skis. Why not try one of the skiing fitness apps now obtainable corresponding to Be Fit.
There’s also a wealthy native tradition of post-skiing socialising, starting from a bottle of beer and steaks on a grill to seats in a gourmand restaurant. And, while eating, you'll find a way to benefit from the nice view of the seven close Heliskiing by glaciers. The Heli Skiing in Cervinia is just awesome, and there may be climbing (the mighty Matterhorn!) paragliding, snow and summer 18-hole golf, a snow park on the Bontadini run, curling, indoor pools and X nation skiing.
The scenic Italian Alps comprise lush valleys and pine forests set in opposition to the backdrop of jagged white peaks. Towns nestle within the valleys and ski chalets nuzzle into the crevices provided by the beneficiant mountains. Access to the world is offered via train or bus routes snaking via the Alps, but the worldwide cable automotive connection over the mountains from Chamonix is by far probably the most spectacular approach to enter the region. One factor Heli skiing BC is certain, your vacation in Italy will be an experience to recollect. Mountain cuisine is normally considered nothing more than a gas cease, but the fifty six mountain restaurants round Zermatt − a lot of them former farmhouses − serve magnificent meals. A personal favourite tasted at one of the restaurants on the slopes was a bowl of hay soup with vodka, which tastes infinitely better than it sounds.

Heli Snowboarding Canada
However, things change throughout different intervals in the season and a few web sites supply old-fashioned info and links may change. Stay in a single one of many surrounding mountain villages for a couple of days earlier than your trip, as it is recommended to get acclimatised to the altitude. Take a half-day or single day trip and keep in the Heliski popular resort of Baqueira –Beret for good high quality however inexpensive eating and a vibrant ambiance. To congratulate yourself after a big day on the mountain, head over to St Anton and expertise the best apres ski on the planet. From Zermatt, you can ski over the border into the Italian resort of Cervinia, which opens up even more backcountry and powder potential.
Weather and snow situation dependant, you can find yourself on an open glacier run or in completely spaced timber. Our first trip with Jorge in 2010 was for backcountry skiing round Bariloche, Argentina. While we have been quickly weathered out of higher terrain due Heliski to excessive avalanche danger from tons of latest snow, we by no means lacked for fun, difficult, and noteworthy options. He shared with us his hometown stashes, one thing solely a generous native guide could do.Jorge is a consummate mountain guide.
Jet powered helicopters fly small groups of skiers/riders seeking infinite powder slopes, regularly snowboarding new strains and bringing our whole variety of named runs to about 1,000! Bella Coola Heli Sports presents a variety of programs catering for apprehensive first time heli-skiers to specialists who want tougher terrain. The Tordrillo Mountains provide a few of the most numerous and thrilling helicopter skiing and snowboarding terrain on the earth, with over 1.2 million acres of terrain and 600 inches of snow every season. Runs high out at 7,500 toes and end at 2,000 ft with panoramic views of Denali and volcanic summits. Each day, our heli ski guides and pilots make area observations and evaluate snow pit data and distant weather stations to choose the best spots for the day’s activities.
If it's snowing too heavily for heli to fly you can go snowboarding in-bounds or in Baba Reshi, visit Srinagar, keep on a houseboat or simply chill out on the lodge. Enjoy a hike within the village, play ping pong or connect with the WiFi and get some work accomplished. The mountain village of Manali is already based mostly Heliski at 2000m, so when heliskiing on this space you already know you may be about to reach dizzying heights far greater than within the Alps. The helicopter takes you to excessive valley flooring at around 2700m and ridges at a whopping 4000m- so it is advised that guarantee you are fully acclimatised as these heights can knock you out!
“the regular amounts of snow, stability of the snowpack, snow quality, the vastness and number of the ski terrain, which keeps our guests continually surprised”. Renowned for the Most Vertical in North America (5,620 toes / 1,713 metres), Revelstoke Mountain Resort is a must for any Revelstoke itinerary. The Resort features three,121 acres of terrain, four alpine bowls, and world-famous Selkirk tree skiing unfold over 69 runs and areas. The Resort was also named Canada’s Best Ski Area by the World Ski Awards in 2016.

Telluride Ski Resort Ski Paintings and Prints
Ski Chair Lift Painting in a snow storm. Could this be Telluride ?
I first visited Telluride in Colorado in the late 80’s when my sister lived near Squaw in California. For a you English man, it was a bit of a shock like a few bits of America to a young, naive British mind. I had skied the Alps since the age of 3 and skiing was rustic log cabins, old historic medieval villages, weird foreign languages, garlic breath and copious fondue cheese Schnitzel while watching yodeling short men slapping buts of even shorter men in leather shorts.
Ski Poster and Print by Pete Caswell
Driving across Southern Colorado on the way back from a winter surfing in Mexico I happened to drive through Telluride on the way to Taos and Santa Fee. The sun was shining and in the desert like valleys, the air con was on, and I had not even the slightest thought about skiing. Then it was like the car entered a portal to a strange galaxy. Guys and girls were walking down the clapboard high street beamed straight out of a Western movie with ski gear, carrying skis. It was like some strange movie. Nothing matched.
“You can’t just go skiing here, its all wrong. This was a western set and nothing should be there but 10 gallon hats, guys in sweaty shirts swinging guns and slapping through saloon doors picking fights. There should be horses and waggons cactuses and plenty of dust. I felt like leaning out of the window and telling them to all go home, they were ruining the place.
Snowy ski print and ski poster
Skiing was very close to my heart and was solidly built in the Alpine tradition of French, Austrian and Swiss Alps with a bit of Italy. Mining towns and the wild West were in another place totally, a different film altogether. They were not meant to mix. One was in a hot dusty place, the other was cold and icy. It was all wrong and who ever wrote the script would never make a success of this one and should be fired.
It took a while, I even drove through Telluride and did not think once about putting skis on my boots. My Alpine skiing illusion was being severely challenged. It took another days drive until I got to Taos and after driving past a ski hire shop I could begin to integrate my mind into this strange new ski world. I tentatively tried out some cross country skis which I had never tried before and haven’t since. Skiing without a lift, that’s how messed up I was. I really wasn’t ready for lifts and downhill slopes. My illusions and dreams of the European Alpine world were not wanting to be challenged too much.
Vintage Ski Posters The Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche Zermatt
It took another day driving down to Santa Fee that I eventually took hold of my mind and edged towards the American downhill way, or at least the Colorado way and began to entertain the possibility that skiing was possible alongside the Wild West landscape and a dream was born. This year I hope to return to Telluride to re photograph it and paint in some of its incredible scenery and ski scene.
I love it really and I do love skiing without a lift too.
Check out the ski paintings and ski prints to see if I have painted your favourite resort yet.

The highest of Courchevel’s five villages, officially simply called Courchevel, is the prestigious place to stay in this French resort in at one end of the 600km Trois Vallées ski area. Still often known by its erstwhile moniker, 1850, not only is it the main lift hub, with gondolas heading up in three different directions, it is home to huge numbers of four-star, five-star, and Palace status hotels, luxury chalets and some pricey shops.
#2 Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy
Italy’s chicest destination is an ancient mountain town in the Dolomite mountains surrounded by soaring cathedrals of sandstone. In Cortina, the business of skiing and snowboarding plays second fiddle to the social sport of seeing and being seen outside and inside the elegant boutiques and antique shops lining the pedestrianized main street, Corso Italia.
The center of the village is dominated by a green and white bell tower and a glittering confection of grand 19th-century mansions. Encroaching twilight is the signal for Cortina to come out and play – a colony of voluminous fur coats and designer ski wear gathers noisily in the Piazza Venezia at the start of the evening passeggiata. Then, much later, the party atmosphere is transferred to intimate wine bars, expensive restaurants, and a smattering of softly-lit nightclubs
#3 Verbier, Switzerland
Some Swiss resorts may match Verbier for luxurious chalets and hotels and vibrant après, but none quite have its cool cachet – and that’s large because none can rival its challenging high-altitude terrain. Anyone who can handle Verbier’s itinerary routes, never mind the couloirs, can consider themselves pretty darn good.
Along with black runs and unmarked off-piste runs to explore with a mountain guide, the itineraries (which, though loosely marked, are not formally controlled or patrolled) are where many experts spend their time. From the top of the ski area, Mont Fort at 3,330m, there is only one black run and serious off-piste to be tackled with a guide – but everyone should ride to the top for the views.
#4 Lech, Austria
Few resorts have a more exclusive image than Lech. Princess Diana was its most famous patron and other past visitors include the Jordanian royal family, the Dutch royal family, and Monaco’s Princess Caroline. But despite its blue-blooded guest list, Lech is far from showy.
The original cluster of inns has expanded in both quality and quantity, and there are three five-star superior hotels, along with some award-winning restaurants. The car-free satellite of Oberlech above the village, once the summer domain of shepherds and cowherds, has also grown almost into a resort in its own right, with huts replaced by expensive hotels. While many Austrian resorts are well known for lively après ski, Lech best suits more sophisticated, cocktail-sipping types.
#5 Megève, France
The epitome of aristo chic, Megève, a former farming village, was founded in 1916 by Baroness Noémie de Rothschild, who decided that France should have its own St Moritz. It succeeded in attracting the rich and famous – in the 1950s French singer, Sacha Distel was king, sharing bubbles with Yves Montand, Brigitte Bardot, and Jean Cocteau among others.
Today, it is home to nine five-star hotels and five Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as several of the world’s finest mountain spas. Glittering boutiques and galleries line the traffic-free medieval center and ancient cobbled streets, and mean, along with an outdoor ice rink, splendid church, and horse-drawn sleighs, that Megève suits those looking for an all-round winter holiday, not just pounding the slopes.
#6 St Moritz, Switzerland
Welcome to the world capital of winter glitz – walking the streets in high season, it would seem that Prada and Bogner are the sole manufacturers of ski wear and that mink fur coats are mandatory. St Moritz is divided into three villages, Dorf, Bad, and Celerina, around or near Lake St Moritz, with Dorf having the pick of shops, nightlife, and restaurants.
However, there’s more to St Moritz than bling. Its position close to the border with Italy and a ski area high point of 3,305m gives it a rare combination of both snow and sun reliability. It was also the first all-round winter-sports resort in the world and boasts a myriad of on and off-snow attractions from skating and bobsleigh to polo, horse racing, and cricket on the frozen lake.
#7 Aspen, USA
During the 1880s Aspen in Colorado enjoyed a brief silver-mining boom and then, after decades of neglect, its historic core was brought back to life thanks to the American skiing boom of the late 20th century. Glamorous and fashionable, it is delightful to stroll around in the evenings, window shopping in designer boutiques from Dior to Moncler, and enjoying the varied restaurants and bars, of which there are over 100.
Aspen has four separate ski areas – Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass, and Aspen Mountain. Aspen Mountain, with long cruising blue runs and short, steep blacks, is accessed from town by gondola, while the other three are reached by free shuttle buses. Buttermilk is the smallest and least challenging, Snowmass the most extensive with terrain for all, and Aspen Highlands has both easy intermediate slopes and the super steeps of Highlands Bowl.
#8 Kitzbühel, Austria
This medieval town with its heavily buttressed walls and delicately painted frescoes, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Wilder Kaiser mountains, is one of the most beautiful in Austria. Pretty, pedestrianized streets are lined with luxury hotels, smart fashion boutiques, and wickedly expensive cafés.
Judge by the fur-clad clientèle browsing shop windows, and Kitzbühel also might seem the ritziest resort in Austria. However, while there is a wonderful choice of four- and five-star hotels, even at the top end of the tree prices don’t reach stratospheric heights. It’s also one of those rare resorts that genuinely appeals to non-skiers, and has a buzzing nightlife scene.
#9 Courmayeur, Italy
This traditional mountaineering village sits at the foot of Mont Blanc at one end of the Mont Blanc tunnel, with Chamonix in France at the other end. The heart of Courmayeur is the pedestrianized Via Roma, lined with smart boutiques and enticing bars and restaurants, as well as delicatessens and shops selling antiques or homewares. Restaurants both in town and on the mountain are of a particularly high standard, and Courmayeur is one of the spiritual homes of the long, lazy lunch.
Courmayeur is less than two hours from both Geneva (116km) and Turin (150km), making it ideal for a short trip. Well‑heeled Italians from Milan and Turin arrive en masse on Friday evenings, thronging the designer boutiques and cocktail bars. Fortunately, since the ski area is a compact 36km, only a small number hit the slopes – they come for the party rather than the piste.
#10 Zermatt, Switzerland
There's a busy, prosperous feel to the center of Zermatt, with ambling fur-coated couples, designer shoppers, and Japanese or Chinese tour groups rubbing shoulders with purposeful mountaineering types. Switzerland’s most famous resort also brings together every scenic Alpine cliché, from the world’s most photogenic mountain, the Matterhorn, to streets lined with a jumble of blackened, weathered, wobbly-looking chalets.
Views from everywhere on Zermatt’s varied, extensive slopes are stunning, including from its outstanding mountain restaurants and spectacular gondola lift to the resort high point of Klein Matterhorn at almost 4,000m. Plentiful long, scenic red and blue runs will satisfy intermediates, while itinerary runs (avalanche controlled but not patrolled) and off‑piste challenges are the main attraction for experts, especially those willing to ski tour or heliski. For extra mileage, Zermatt is linked to the slopes of Cervinia in Italy.

Zermatt, Switzerland
Tumblr media
Zermatt, Swiss Postcard I would like to introduce you to one of Switzerland's most popular tourist destinations. This is a beautiful mountain resort in Zermatt, the gateway to heaven.  Here you will see the best views of the Swiss alps and, of course, you will get an unparalleled view of the Matterhorn, one of the world's most breathtaking peaks. Get up close and personal with this popular getaway from skiing here in the Swiss Alps.  Zermatt is one of my favorite towns in Switzerland, where you can get a lot of breathtaking views. There are a lot of things you can do around in Zermatt but mostly you will just be in awe of the views.    First, one must be aware that Zermatt is a car-free zone, which means that it is only accessible via train. The easiest way to reach is to go either by car or bus to Täsch. Then if you were to be taking the train to Zermatt you might want to start with the Rothorn, which is one of the peaks in Zermatt that may be visited and from there you will be able to see a magnificent view of the Matterhorn. Zermatt is a place of amazing local points which has been attracting tourists for decades among the viewpoints, the one at the Rothorn is less popular than the more famous Gornergrat to view the Matterhorn. It is my opinion that the best view of the Matterhorn can be found from the Rothorn.   The Rothorn can be reached by cable car from Sunnega (a great viewpoint and an excellent cafe), then a combination gondola/chair from the next station to a cable car to Rothorn (10,108' above sea level). For skiers, the variety of runs is outstanding, groomed, and off-piste if sufficient snow covers the rocks. For intermediate or expert skiers, this is an excellent place with a lot of variety.  There are also terrace restaurants to go to for lunch, which make this place quite enjoyable. Once you eventually will arrive on top of the Rothorn from where you'll be able to enjoy a fantastic alpine panorama. At the top of the Rothorn, you’ll have a fantastic view over the Matterhorn.   Well, definitely I can highly recommend a visit to the Rothorn. so a round-trip ticket costs you 60 swiss francs.. There is also a very good restaurant up there which will make your day even more enjoyable. It would be a great idea to indulge in hot chocolate or gluhwein (mulled wine).  After the Rothorn then, of course, you have to walk around the village. It is a beautiful place, and from here you have a magnificent view of the Matterhorn. This is the iconic peak that is one of the landmarks of Switzerland and Disneyland. Zermatt is one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland. It is a typical alpine Swiss holiday resort full of traditional houses, chalets, and hotels. You will see the old and the new coexisting harmoniously. The river promenade is particularly interesting, as is the old town, where you can find numerous chalet houses.    Zermatt's quite touristic, which demonstrates how commercialized the city has become, but I still find it fun to walk around. While visiting Here, having coffee, having lunch, or shopping, it is worthwhile to stop by the church, since it has a really beautiful interior. As the snow falls on the roofs and walls of the hotels during the sunny winter days, one can feel the winter wonderland vibes present. There are numerous reasons to visit Zermatt only on a day trip, especially if one is seeking a panoramic view of the summits and the view of the Matterhorn. Having visited Zermatt five times in total, I found it most enjoyable when I stayed overnight. The sunsets behind the Matterhorn in the late afternoon and Zermatt starts to glow. There are those 15 minutes after sunset when you can see the contrast between the snow glowing in cool colors and the many lights resolving some warmth to me this is the moment when the winter wonderland feeling comes to life. It is imperative to plan your dinner for that time. If you wish to enjoy Zermatt, then you must take this train from Zermatt to Gornergrat after sunset. The Gornergrat is a mountain cliff from which you may see the surrounding mountains and glaciers. The train ride up to the Gornergrat is Zetrmatt’s most famous attraction, and for good reasons! The route to the top is quite scenic.  There are also various hiking trails that one can take for example. The trail that takes you to the Gorner Glacier is really worth it.    The Klein Matterhorn, part of the Breithorn massif, overlooks on its southern side the almost equally high flat glacier named Breithorn Plateau, just north of the international border with Italy. Klein Matterhorn is named after its larger neighbor, the Matterhorn, which lies at a distance of seven kilometers (four miles), across the Theodul Pass. The Klein Matterhorn is also a year-round ski area, with the adjacent ski lift that provides access to the substantially higher Gobba di Rollin. The Klein Matterhorn is part of an international ski area between Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia. There you will have a great view over Zermatt, the Gornergrat, the Rothorn the Matterhorn, which feels like it was an eye-level and then you can also look down to Breuil-Cervinia in italy standing on a platform, those 2000 or so mountain peaks suddenly feel quite small, especially when the weather isn't the best likely up there.  Getting to this point will cost you 90 Swiss francs. One may ask whether it's worth going after having been to the Gornergrat and the Rothorn my answer to that is definitely going to be yes. The Matterhorn glacier paradise is not only about the lookout, But also about the ice palace, this is a very unique attraction. Here you can see a number of figures carved into the ice as well as some typical figures such as the Eringer Cows fighting, a dragon, the stars of the canton of valleys, and Buddha all in all it is a great attraction with dramatic views.    Glacier Paradise is a place where there is a high probability of experiencing clear skies. To reach the glaciers, you can walk from the upper part of the village to Throdul station and take the cable lifts up there on sunny days. The view of the Matterhorn, which is now much closer, is magnificent. ;  In addition to skiing, there are lots of other interests that you may wish to explore in Zermatt. It's important to mention that Zermatt is not only great during the winter. It's also very exciting to come up here during spring and summer.  Read the full article

Liam Killeen, Britain's absolute best wish for a mountain bicycle medal after happening seventh in Beijing, mentioned the program was among the best demanding he had actually seen regardless of his first scepticism. The perspective at Moormans Stream Overlook, gorgeous on a typical day, was nothing at all but uplifting that morning: clouds bented their means up Garden pond Ridge, wants faded details from the moisture, fog flooded Pasture Fencing Hill like a falls. If you plan to commit a few days in the mountain range devoid of the provider, it's critical to become knowledgeable about the basic survival suggestions. Twenty-one from the world's greatest freeride hill bicycle riders acquired in the hole stones from Virgin, Utah near Zion National Park to generate their personal lines down near-vertical sandstone. While outdoors tents like the double-walled Mountain range Components Trango 2 examine a significant 10 extra pounds, the Access 2 can be found in just over the 4-pound mark, creating it one of the most effective lightweight alternatives on this checklist. They range from rustic dorm-style lodgings (hütte, single hut) higher in the Mountain range to easy yet satisfying hill inns. Easy accessibility to the highway creates travelling to work close and straightforward distance to Walmart, Lowes, supermarket as well as various other retail stores create it convenient to keep local area. Thus far, the Green Hill inspection has certainly not caused any kind of charges against the coffee provider or its own employees. It's a standard misconception that instruction is actually not important for mountain range bicycling, however that's not accurate, other than in the case if you reside in remarkably great physical condition. Today, Breuil Cervinia, split up from endlessly additional famous Zermatt by small concern from the Matterhorn (or even Monte Cervino over this side), lacks the alpine spell of its own near-neighbour as well as the view from the outstanding hill. Like the mountaineer, the moment that intermediate objective is actually completed, then you will definitely discover your own self midway up the mountain range. Hills possess an unique top, except in locations with plunge territory; a hill is lesser and less high compared to a mountain range. As kept in mind above, Iron Mountain does certainly not have an investment grade rated personal debt score; however, the firm has modest safeguarded personal debt. Referring flash, consistently utilize your flash when taking outside and also hill shots While this may seem to be counter-intuitive, that will certainly illuminate your foreground, which will definitely assist lighten up your topic. If you're wanting to get away for a fast as well as exciting winter season ski break with the loved ones, this's vital to opt for the right resort. Irrepressible energies that divided the mountain range in 2 were let loose as a result of the disputes amongst the humans and also robotics.

Farewell winter holidays
Due to Coronavirus, most of our holidays are cancelled for 2020. It is then odd that my last holiday was in January to Cervinia, quite close in terms of location and tineframe to the original Italian outbreak that brought the virus to Europe.
I’ve visited the mountains over winter on and off over the last 25 years. 2020 will be my last, for a while. But, boy, what a ride - prior to discovering snow holidays, the winter was spent waiting for spring or in the Canaries.
1995 was when I saw my first time high up on the snow-peaked Alps. A week’s skiing in Tignes, France. I wasn’t even that bothered to go but my girlfriend at the time, Helen, and a group if her friends were going. Also, Jerry,a buddy of mine and co-founder of our company said I should try it.
And I loved it, taking to skiing like a duck to water. I was soon hurtling down anything L’Espace Killy could throw at me, everything but blackruns were conquered in my first week on the snow.
I also tried boarding for a day and really enjoyed that it. Sadly, the last day was marred by a skiing crash on the last run of the day, busting my ACL and ending my virgin ski career. Over before it started.
I was learning that snow sports are rough and tough. And hurt.
A couple of years later, I went back to Tignes with a bunch of mates and switched to boarding. This went well so it was repeated again the next year but this time we went to Val d’Isere, also in France and just one valley across from Tignes.
The first few trip were all done on the Ski train, departing Calais late evening and arriving in the French Alps early the next morning. This was reversed a week later giving 2 extra days on the piste (sic).
Next year saw me in Courcheval, France for 10 days over the millennium, and then La Plagne, France a couple of month later. I was getting the bug, I bought better gear, a board and spent my days either off-piste or on the margins. I had, I think, tired of on-piste motorway skiing and lacked the skills or interest to do the more technical stuff. Boarding for me was about messing around in the trees and deep powder.
2001 saw the dot com bubble burst so I quit the expensive French super-resorts and went to Sauze D’Oulx across the border in Italy - a real discovery and a resort I would return twice more in 2018 and 2019 - albeit just for the social.
Money was tight in 2001, and my personal circumstances had changed so I had a couple of years off the snow. 2004 saw me visit Sierra Nevada in Spain for a couple of days and the following year back to Val d’Isere but a serious foot/ankle break in late 2004 had already made me think it was time to hang-up my snow obsession.
Car racing then got in the way and I didn’t return to the slopes until 2016, when a chance to go to Andorra came up. Older, fatter, and with a weakened foot it was a hard week and a heavy tumble half way through the week damaged by shoulder and cut the snow fun short. I also found the “motorway” aspect of tightly groomed pistes a bit too contrived and well-worn.
The following year, 2017 was the last time on a board for me, this time it was Salzbach in Austria and snow time was limited as I had clearly lost my mojo and was finding it hard work on busy snow motorways with little of the original carefree joy I first felt some two decades earlier. But the craic with the lads was great, there was lots to do, and the social side sparkled.
So much so that when I heard they were going back to the pretty, social and great value Sauze I decided to go along for the craic, take some photos and tour around the area in a hire car. It was great.
Even better was the following year when we returned again to pretty little Sauze. I took the opportunity to visit Turin, over into France with both Sestriere and Megreve. It was super social and various injuries in the group meant I had lots of company, fine restaurants were visited and mucho good time was had.
But the writing was on the wall. Early season holidays has been chosen to keep costs down, as had Sauze, but the following year, 2020, would be my last one. We visited Cervinia, also in Italy, and it was super-cheap, but at the expense of using a basic package deal that kept most of the group in the hotel, watching Netflix on their phones. Many were in bed or locked up in their rooms directly after the full-board dinner was scoffed down by 9pm.
This was a pure slopes holiday and I wasn’t very engaged. With no real way of getting around, the days dragged and the evenings became mostly anti-social or repetitive. I should have said no, but the lure of a room to myself and located directly under the Matterhorn was just too tempting. Despite being a mistake, a lesson was learned.
It will be the last one, next plans are for a mostly fake-snow resort in the Dolomites, a town that gets just 2/5 for Apres-ski and then Whistler in Canada - some 24hrs travel each way. Nope, not for me. Even assuming we manage to get rid of the Coronavirus and folks want to travel and the airlines haven’t gone bust.
So today, 25 years after I first found my love of the snow in France I say farewell to winter mountain holidays - the shine lost but the memories remain. But, never say never.
If I was contemplating another chapter it would be with my wife, doing some walking, chilling, a wee bit if sightseeing. It would be later in the year when there is more snow, better weather, longer days and more options. Oh yes, we’d probably live quite well, avoiding packages and ski-tramp hotels.

Friday Five with Aimée Wilder
New York born and bred, designer Aimée Wilder has her parents to thank for early exposure to fashion trends and textiles – they would eventually be the basis of her career. After graduating from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 2001, she began developing a body of fine art illustrations that opened the door to exciting design positions at several well-known firms, including Dwell Studio, Martha Stewart Living, and The Gap. In 2008, shoe brand Vans featured three of Aimée’s patterns on thirty different styles of shoes and accessories, exposing her bold designs and playful aesthetic to the world. In 2009, she debuted her wallpaper designs under her own name at New York’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair. Aimée has also recently added rugs, pillows, poufs, fabrics, and contract materials to her listings. Today she’s joining us for Friday Five and sharing five places she finds inspiration.
Photo courtesy of Pamono; ‘Le Bambole’ Chaise Lounge by Mario Bellini (1972)
1. Vintage Design I love things from the past that live on into the present. Vintage textiles are a big inspiration for me, and they remind me how time moves on. I admire futuristic objects from the 1960s and early ’70s because they present such a contrast between how we envisioned the future and how design has actually progressed since then. I like the geometry in this period’s lighting and electronics, the gorgeous furnishings and home accessories, the low-slung coffee tables, sofas, chairs, and rugs. I also love vintage jewelry, especially pieces from my mother’s ’80s-inspired collection.

2. Natural Healing and Movement I’m a huge proponent of natural healing, and I totally advocate using herbs, vitamins, minerals, fruits, and vegetables to help maintain a healthy body. For the past four years my own healing journey has involved working with functional medicine doctors at Parsley Health, practicing yoga, and becoming mindful through meditation. These are some of the best choices I’ve ever made. I’ve learned so much along the way, as well as through my own research, and I enjoy sharing information and remedies with others. Movement has also been a huge part of this journey – I try to fit a workout into as many days of the week as possible. I travel a lot, but I try to stay active while I’m away from home, too. I love standup paddleboarding, snowboarding, and hiking. And whatever city I visit, you can probably find me in an infrared sauna.

3. Mountaintops I grew up in New York City, but as a child I was crazy about skiing. I raced competitively, had my first knee injury at age 14, and switched to snowboarding after college while living in Boulder, Colorado for almost five years. But always one of my favorite parts of the whole experience was riding the ski lift or cable car all the way up to the top of the mountain. I loved it so much that my mom would take me on the Roosevelt Island tram just for fun!
So I’m a bit obsessed with mountaintops. Last winter I went snowboarding in Telluride for the first time since having knee surgery a year and a half ago. Every year I go to the Alps either before or after Milan Design Week – some years before and after! In 2017, I visited Chamonix and its famous Restaurant Le Panoramique, and Le Brevent mountain, and took the Montenvers railway to Mer De Glace, France’s largest glacier, on a magical low-visibility day. I’ve also been to St. Moritz in Switzerland to see the top of Piz Corvatsch, which is 3,451 meters high and has the most incredible observation deck. This year we squeezed in two days and nights of snowboarding in Cervinia, Italy, where we took the gondola and three lifts all the way to the Rifugio Teodulo. On the border of Italy and Switzerland we took two lifts to climb more than 3,500 meters up to the foot of the Matterhorn. I’m always thinking of where to go next!
Photo by Stewart Armstrong; Aimée Wilder at Carnelian Bay Lake Tahoe, CA
4. A Camera Set to Manual I love taking pictures and am constantly refining my photography. It takes a lot of practice to get the perfect shot, and travel is perfect for that – even better if I’m visiting a stunning location. I shoot with the highest-end full-frame mirrorless camera and lenses I can get my hands on, and it has been well worth the investment. I mostly use a Sony Alpha 7R III, and wish I had a shockproof case so I could snowboard with it. But I also love Fuji for its dynamic color range – I can’t wait to play with their medium-format digital cameras, and I’m already using a waterproof Fuji. I originally learned to shoot in my teens with an all-manual Pentax film camera, which was unfortunately stolen from my car when I was 21. This brought my early photography career to a screeching halt because I couldn’t afford to replace it. So, after years of shooting with disposable cameras or my dad’s old Canon point-and-shoot, it’s been a breath of fresh air to use the latest pro digital cameras. I’m so excited about integrating photography into my design work. I’m also about to release a new collection, Eudaimonia, and have done all the photography myself!
Photo by Aimée Wilder; The Last Party, Amsterdam Warehouse
5. Music is My Hot Hot Sex (Song by Cansei de Ser Sexy) Music can affect mood, supply inspiration, and be a source of healing. I use high-fidelity noise-canceling headphones for their amazing sound quality and portable size, and to protect my hearing when I’m in loud environments. I’m also heavily involved in the live music scene – I have a lot of friends here in New York and internationally who make electronic music. Sometimes I’ll go out at midnight just to dance to the best music of the night and see a friend’s DJ set – I’ve been doing this since my mid-twenties. Recently I got to see the Lot Radio Anniversary Party, a celebration for an independent radio station located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where I live and work. The last big concert I went to was to see the band Beirut, at Brooklyn Steel, which was my first time seeing them live, and Zach Condon’s first concert after a two-year hiatus.

Italian ski resort Cervinia thinks twice about name change
Outcry after Italian ski resort dropped Cervinia. The famed ski resort of Cervinia in northern Italy on Thursday reverted to its pre-Fascist era name of Le Breuil before doing an about-turn following political pressure. The small Alpine town at the foot of the Matterhorn, part of the autonomous Valle d’Aosta region, sits on Italy’s northwestern border with Switzerland. Known for centuries as Le…

Carving in Colorado Snowboarding in Zermatt or Free-driving on Arlberg?
We’ve picked them. Our selection of top luxury ski resorts worldwide. Who has the most beautiful slopes, the best hotels, and where can you expect what kind of entertainment? We have chosen three luxury ski destinations.
If you live here, you usually know them. The top ski resorts in Austria. Hardly any people celebrate winter sports more than the Austrians. Except for the Swiss maybe. But where else on this planet you can celebrate your perfect winter holiday? I once looked over the ski edges and searched for the most luxurious ski resorts in the world. What can I tell you? I think I found them.
Snow guarantee in Aspen and Snowmass
Maroon Bells Aspen Colorado in fall.
Solely the panorama is like an exaggerated retouched postcard. White mountain peaks, sparkling blue skies, and powder snow. In the valley, the forests turn into color in all shades of red. Is that really possible? Yes, it is
Colorado is not just wild west and cowboys. Colorado has 25 ski resorts that advertise the slogan “America’s best skiing.”
The sophisticated Aspen has, in addition to its stylish infrastructure, over 2,230 hectares of slopes. Four ski areas can be reached from here. Snowmass, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk are the names of the popular mountains where Wintersports lovers prefer to spend their Winter holidays on skiers.
Aspen Colorado winter wonderland
Hard to believe that the ski resort was a small mountain settlement at the end of the 19th century. Aspen grew quickly after finding silver in the mountains.
After the silver boom, the village fell into slumber again, until a wealthy industrialist, Walter P. Paepcke from Chicago reactivated it in 1945 by building the longest chairlift of the world.
A ski resort was born and many celebrities followed his invitation. Five years after the end of the war, the first World Cup was played here.
The ski enthusiastic upper class initially resided in the small chalets that sprouted from the ground for this purpose.
Since then, a lot of time has passed and Aspen has evolved. Well-known hotel chains followed. Today the Who’s Who of Hollywood flies in with their private jets to spend Christmas and New Year. Even Kevin Costner has a villa here where he likes to spend the holidays with friends.
For the locals, admittedly rather few, it just means just wait. With the beginning of March, the hype has retired. Autumn is considered a “Secret Season”. In this season you can experience the famous Indian Summer and plan extensive hiking tours.

“The Little Nell” has been around for a long time. Short way to the slopes, very close if you want shopping or for a short walk to the city center. Great service, valet parking a nightclub and a restaurant. Many celebrities romp around here in the evening. watch out.
Snowmass

The Viceroy is very popular with families. The larger rooms have a kitchen, several bathrooms and are very spacious. The hotel’s owned ski rental makes it easy, also for long-distance travelers to spontaneously make a ski trip. Shuttle to and from the slopes. The village is also fast reachable and within walking distance. The reputation of excellent service precedes the hotel.

Hot Springs
Quaint, close to nature and authentic. American hut magic with flair.
https://www.duntondestinations.com/hot-springs/
A stay at Dunton Hot Springs is a special experience. The former gold digger village in a lonely clearing high on the mountain offers luxurious, lovingly furnished log cabins. Bookworms get their money’s worth in the specially designed library. Here is also unwind and relax announced. The wooden bathhouse invites you to take a dip in the hot springs in the open air. The dinner is taken together on a huge table and you get to know the other guests in a family atmosphere. Highly Recommended!
Superlative in Zermatt
Since the 3S cable car opening, the new Glacier Ride, the place below the Matterhorn is unbeatable. So at least the unanimous opinion of the testers. From Zermatt to the Italian town of Breuil-Cervinia, proud 360 kilometers of pistes run from 2,900 to 3,920 vertical meters. Snow is assured here.
Zermatt is not cheap, that is to say straight away. Nevertheless, the price/performance ratio and the service are excellent. Another advantage – here the sport is the topic and not celebrate the Apres-Ski. If you are looking for cheap sausages with sauce, or reflect for a “high life” in the evening, you are at the wrong place. It is pure Swiss here. A nice pleasant setting to the Austrian ski circus. Attention – these slopes are tough – nothing for beginners.

 Extraordinary Accommodations
That’s difficult with over 30 five star hotels. I especially noticed these three:
For stargazers and people with an affection for the extraordinary
Staying overnight in a research center about Zermatt

For all starry sky lovers an ideal place to live out all your passions: watch the stars, eat very well and sleep in exceptional hotels. However, you should do your reservation in time. Even if the rooms are nothing special, the location is popular. On the clear Swiss starry sky, you can count stars while lying in your bed, give them names, give them away until you sleep soundly.
The Chalet – Cozy and traditional living

Cervio Chalets Zermatt
https://www.cervo.ch/de/
Designed in the typical Swiss chalet style, the building already emits coziness and warmth from the outside look. The traditional house is known for its charming Swiss service. Although the wood-paneled rooms are rather small, the view of the Matterhorn is compensating this. Each chalet has its own small spa and traditional cuisine at the restaurant is recommended.

Admittedly, it’s a bit off – the mountain hotel Riffelalp. But if you are looking for recreation, and want to enjoy luxury after your skiing it is the right place at 2200 meters a.S. The trip with the Riffelalp rack railway is especially entertaining. Another highlight is the hot outdoor pool overlooking the Matterhorn. Modest service, rooms are typically Swiss discreet and tastefully decorated. However, if you want to spend your holidays not only in the hotel and on the slopes should possibly arrive by car. The connection to the train station is not very frequent.
Free-Riding in the Arlberg Area
From Stuben to Zürs. Four beautiful ski areas. St. Anton, Lech-Zürs and Warth-Schröcken – proudly offering 305 kilometers of pistes and state-of-the-art lifts and facilities and free-riders get their money’s worth at almost 200 kilometers in deep snow. Also, the nightlife rocks the polar bear here. The entertainment program of St. Anton has it all. Since it is difficult for some to go back to the skis the next morning.
For those who like it a bit calmer, but also more expensive,  Lech is perfect. Here you can enjoy champagne and many culinary delicacies after a successful day’s skiing. Not in vain the Swedish royal house prefers to stay here during their Winter Holiday.
Families feel very well in Schröcken Zürs and Warth. Beautiful huts invite you to stop for a bite. One puts on family friendliness. So also the hotels in these regions.

The hotel industry has adapted to the different target groups and everything from luxury resorts to family hotels can be found. My Top 3 In this region:
My hotel selection
Lech
youtube
https://postlech.com/
It is one of the most beautiful traditional houses that Lech has to offer. Successful here is the preservation of the old buildings in addition to modern home furnishings. Unpretentious luxury resort with excellent service. Especially nice it is the hotel garden, which is worth a photo.
St. Anton
https://www.antonerhof.at/de/
The family running hotel has a very individual style.  The balancing act between tradition and modernity succeeded. Although the room details need getting used to, it fits in with people’s sense of unique hotels. The fusion kitchen has an excellent reputation, the service suits and three minutes to the next lift are perfect. The proximity of the place also makes it interesting for Apres Ski and Party People.
Zürs
Image: Website linking Thurners
https://www.thurnhers.com/
And just in Zürs the only Leading Hotel of the World of the whole ski region is located here. The leadership of the Thurnhers ensures that this award is appropriate. But other awards regularly cheering the family-business house. Connoisseur Circle to Austria’s Best Ski Resort 2016, Sense Award, American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, and much more. In fact, this over 100 years old hotel is something special. Just an LHW hotel. Tip: book directly and enjoy the direct price advantage.in
