Fruits Basket 50 (s2 ep 25) | Wave!! 7 | Deca-Dence 8 - 12 (FINAL) | HGPC 31 - 45 (FINAL)
Finally back at it, after some months away.
Fruits Basket 50 (s2 ep 25)
I got halfway through ep. 24 before realising I’ve watched it before, so…on to the last ep, then s3 ep. 2.
The birds seem to be sped up…
I-Is that…Cortana?! In Fruits Basket?!!! (muffled laughter)
Is Shigure older than Kureno? Also, I like how the translator used “featherbrained” instead of “scatterbrained”.
Wave!! 7
Back again after some months away – let’s get into it!
I still have some Tsuritama rewatch notes and they say shirasu = whitebait.
Ah, I know Yuta’s feels. That’s what magicalgirlsandcerulean is about, after all – information from the various corners of the internet, such as the relevant Twitters, about magical boys (and some girls).
LOL, Tadao is meant to be Mr Exposition, it seems. I don’t really like having my exposition shoved at me like this.
When your heart isn’t in your activities, you just…suck. That’s the way of the world.
Aji = Japanese jack mackerel.
Mugen = infinity/infinite, so it makes sense Mugen would say “infinite gratitude”.
Deca-Dence 8
I feel like even though Deca-Dence is unique on the surface, it’s telling us a tune we’ve heard many times before.
Deca-Dence 9
The fact the pan starts at Kurenai’s legs is…vaguely disturbing…
*facepalms* So Kurenai’s just a love-obsessed freak…Great.
It seems one type of Gadoll is called a “Yumushi”.
Deca-Dence 10
Pipe…I’m gonna miss you, buddy.
Kaburagi = Kumichou (Boss).
Deca-Dence 11
Why do the Gadoll eggs look like…pomegranate seeds(?)
Deca-Dence 12 (FINAL)
For the last time, it’s cannon!
…d’aww. That ending was cute. See you again sometime!
HGPC 31
“…so much…”
HGPC 32
I feel like Pegitan could have told Chiyu about the stray dog.
Sukoyaka sweet buns, LOL.
Ah, I know the feeling Toji. You do better after some practice.
“Someone who’s been watching you”? Doesn’t…that sound creepy(?)
I was wondering of Toji was gonna be the new Giga Byogen, but Mr Chikara (chikara = power) also makes sense.
HGPC 33
Ah, apparently kaiseki is served at ryokans. I should’ve known it would come up at the Sawaizumi place. (<- researching kaiseki for fan division)
Once again, I’m reminded of the fact this aired during COVID times. Kinda like Look Back by Fujimoto, but…less on-the-nose.
Earth doesn’t seem to be able to use the Paw Shield, huh?
HGPC 34
Tsubasa = wing, Taka = high, mi = eye (if I’ve guessed the kanji right). Makes sense for a gal who does the high jump.
*realisation hits* …oh no! This was probably meant to be an Olympics episode! *droops*
“Sawaizumi” is made of two kanji related to water, so swimming in the sky makes sense.
HGPC 35
“Sunscreen cream”? “Sunscreen” is sunscreen…unless, of course, you have a cream which functions as a sunscreen as well as having other benefits. That could be possible.
*realisation hits* …oh no! This was probably meant to be an Olympics episode! *droops*
HGPC 36
Getting to the end…sooner or later… *sweatdrops*
Is this friend’s name Elizabeth or Natasha…? Update: Now she’s Eriko??? Update 2: Oh, so “Natasha” is Hinata. “Elizabeth” = Eriko.
S-So Nodoka didn’t make any friends at her old school? *feels sad for her*
HGPC 37
(no notes, sorry!)
HGPC 38
“…has been her goal since she was young…”
“…watched you work hard.”
HGPC 39
(no notes, sorry!)
HGPC 40
“Stop joking – your body already looks like a joke.” (<- had to rewrite the sentence partially to make it make sense)
HGPC 41
“I knew you had a wonderful plan.”
…okay *raises eyebrow*, “vanish away” is not proper English…(It appeared twice in this episode, I think.)
HGPC 42
(no notes, sorry!)
HGPC 43
…doesn’t Nodoka care about her dad(?)
I think Latte mouthed “Asumi”.
“Do you think you can purify me, who has further evolved, in that state?” (<- note the commas)
A-As sad as it is, I understand Shindoine…a bit. (<- Remember, I am a simp for long-haired guys…*sweatdrops*)
“Choice” was spelt wrong, LOL.
HGPC 44
It looks like Latte is mouthing “okaasan” (mum) to support her mother…
HGPC 45 (FINAL)
Update: I previously had no notes for this episode, but all that Daruizen business in the last few episodes was…kinda creepy, considering he was essentially birthed from her. The fact Nodoka also learn to be selfish to protect herself, when previously she would have felt obligated to save him (even if he was evil!) is also a good spin on the formula. (Also, what happened to Hinata’s mother? I forget if that was mentioned…) Anyways, I finally finished this anime after almost 2 years of working at it! See you again some other time, or maybe in some of my other notes.

Fairy Ranmaru 3 - 5 | TWEWY 3 - 5 | HGPC 6 - 12, 22 - 24 | Back Arrow 7
Adding the tag for Fairy Ranmaru, because that's the only anime I have really set for this season.
Fairy Ranmaru 3
· Update: For some reason, I didn’t quite realise he was speaking English the first time and then repeating himself in Japanese. It’s only a very short scene, which is probably how it happened.
· LOL, that one well-timed beam that only vaguely obscured Uruu’s butt…
· If I heard small Uruu right, he calls her okaasama and not okaasan.
· LOL, Asahi (morning) = Yuuhi (evening) beer.
· I wonder what’s up with Houjou? Is he gonna be evil, like (SPOILERS!) the manager in Mahou Shoujo Ore? Why doesn’t Houjou have wings, anyway? Update: Notice the main quintet get rid of the wings in some shots and then conjure them when necessary. It might just be Houjou hasn’t needed his wings yet…
· Hmm…I’ve been thinking about how Japanese HypMic fans buy lots of CDs and merch (crazy amounts, have you seen the shrines???) to do something similar, but their purpose isn’t really to keep their characters’ careers going in as much as it is to further a plotline…so is it really on the same level as this [buying all the photobooks for the sake of helping the relevant celebrity succeed]? I dunno, you decide.
· LOL, conveniently-placed light beams are really terrible this episode.
· …wow. That got…uh…suggestive (?) (I was really shocked when I saw that the first time. How did they manage to get away with that on late-night TV???)
· We went from Madoka Magica -> moe world -> ukiyoe world…what’s next?
· …uh…suggestive? (x2)
· They really like the pot theme, huh…?
· I dunno if that was meant to be poignant that Ranmaru said Uruu was crying on the inside, but…I laughed at it.
HGPC 6
· Wait, so why was Nodoka’s mum unemployed? Was she moving for work? Update: Seems she quit her job because Nodoka was hospitalised.
HGPC 7
· (no notes, sorry!)
HGPC 8
· SKY appears to be “Sukoyaka”. Update: Yep, later you see Chiyu with the track outfit and it says SKYK.
HGPC 9
· (no notes, sorry!)
HGPC 10
· (no notes, sorry!)
Back Arrow 7
· This general with the big beard kinda looks like Archie (from Pokemon).
· Hmm…I think I like Prax already, with the sole exception her Briheight looks rather similar to a palette-swapped Muga.
TWEWY 3
· This song must mean so much more to people who’ve played the game…(The OP, I mean.)
· Shoumetsu…it means “erasure”, technically. Will wait and see if it means more in context.
· Subaru using his normal voice as Beat. I think Ichiro is also his normal voice, or slightly gruffer and/or lower.
· Tower Records, as anime fans know, is an anime/music store. They’re well known for their “no anime, no life” stuff (exhibit A: the HypMic Rhyme Anima version).
· Ooh, Shibuya Marui. Reminds me of the one I saw in Akihabara.
· One of the signs in the back says “Shibuya First Bank”.
· “…1 Days” (sic).
· Why do I seem to recall Neku can only use one of his badge powers as a time…? Where did I learn that from?...I don’t know.
· The final boss defeated in episode 3. There is surely more around the corner…
· Ohhhhhhhh! That’s a big twist!
TWEWY 4
· Parco = this department store chain. Known mostly for P’PARCO shopping centres.
· *opens calculator on computer* The square root of 10814 is 104…Shibuya 104. Update: It’s 109 in real life, but 104 here.
· Are those…crabs? *Crab Rave plays in background*
· The Reapers at the top have cardinal directions in their surnames, but Uzuki doesn’t. That’s because her first name means the 4th month of the calendar. Update: Kariya has the character for “hunter” in his surname, too.
· LOL, Yoshidaya (in the back, a parody of Yoshinoya).
· I wonder, why is Joshua’s power so similar to Neku’s fire pin…?
· Rhyme has “dream” as one of the kanji in her name.
· Kangaroo Noise…(*thinks about HypMic ARB* Not more kangaroos…) (<- kidding)
· Oh no! I read spoilers before this so I knew Beat was going to become a Reaper, but…oh nooooooooo!
HGPC 11
· Exploding dandelion seeds…now that’s novel!
HGPC 12
· Ah, so here’s Batetemoda’s intro…(he’s such a chuuni…)
HGPC 22
· Skipped a bunch of episodes because I saw them already.
· The decision to write “Asumin” without the U is a bit weird, I think, but still a valid one.
HGPC 23
· (no notes, sorry!)
HGPC 24
· (no notes, sorry!)
Fairy Ranmaru 4
· LOL, he (Juka) tossed poor Bakkun…
· LOL, censorship bottles.
· Brass ring. I’d never heard of the term before and I’m an English (kinda-)native speaker. (Technically Cantonese is my first language, but English is my best.)
· Did you see Uruu’s rubber duck?
· Bakkun’s a couch now! Cute!
· …so basically, Juka is a healer. Got it.
· Note how the F is green now…
· I always look away at the kiss scenes. They’re a bit of a waste of time, methinks.
· LOL, the randomly-placed effects and beams over Juka’s bits.
· Oh, Sunflowers. That would explain why Starry Night is Juka’s painting in the OP, like Uruu’s is the Great Wave.
· …and here’s Starry Night now, right on cue.
· JKRM???? (Shouldn’t that be L…?)
TWEWY 5
· The A in “CAT” looked slightly like it had cat ears.
· Wait, if this was with flip phones back in the day, did they still have apps then…? Or was it programs?
· Ooh, orange badge.
· ”Fresh Humburger”, LOL.
Fairy Ranmaru 5
· Note the opening segment has a plain chatreuse background for Ranmaru (aside from a scratched effect, like someone’s rubbed a pencil lead over it), fireworks for Homura, the Wave for Uruu, Starry Night for Juka and…I don’t know what Takara’s is, but it’s bright yellow and has spots on the edges.
· LOL, Bakkun’s use of sauces. If they only eat curry, why do they have tomato sauce and mustard, anyway…?
· I don’t think I ever properly understood what “out to lunch” meant…”temporarily not in command of one's mental faculties.” There you go!
· The sign’s F is gold this time…
· Yeah, around when she said “you bought all my vegetables”, I noticed the boxes said “carrots”, “potatoes” and so on. I didn’t even know “carrot” had kanji until yesterday, believe it or not (and I learnt that from a HypMic fan comic…*sweatdrops* Samatoki hates carrots).
· I dunno why, but men in anime sure seem to be proud of eating meat…
· LOL, weirdly-placed light beams over Takara’s butt. (I don’t know whether to call the staff “cowards” for refusing to showing the full butt or not.)
· Even the money has pots on it! I love how this anime keeps on going with that joke…(lel?)
· As it turns out, fuhen means “unchanging”. Yaochou likewise means “fixed game”, but it’s a pun on the word for “grocer” (八百屋, readyaoya and sharing the first two kanji, hence the English translation of “Fixed Grocer”).
· Oh! I had to think about it a little, but Ruise = Seiru (sale) backwards. (Update: Sort of, there's a line in the middle that has to be covered for with the I.) “Oshida”, I think, is meant to mean “authority”, so to put that with Fuhen would mean something like “eternal authority [over Ruise and her dad, due to their debt]”. Update: You know when the bull gets pushed out of the ring? That’s called oshidashi.
· Hmm? That star badge Takara wears in human form seems to be that yellow thing on his shoulder in fairy form.
· Hmm…come to think of it, “bull” was the name of a type of stock market speculator…What a pun!
· Why does Takara keep licking his lips???

HGPC 17 - 21 | Koi to Producer 2 - 6 | Appare 5 - 8 | Fugou Keiji 4 - 6
...only just realised I was missing some tags. They should be there now or soon.
HGPC 17
Why do I get the feeling the Sawaizumi family will be held hostage one day…? (Maybe I’m just being negative?)
The episode title mentions Chiyu by name, so I wonder why the translation didn’t…
Customer service! You can’t get away from it, even in COVID times…! (Impressive!)
Hmm…you can actually read part of the booking for the Smiths in the book if you know the kanji.
I thought the Smiths would speak in English, but they actually speak in fluent Japanese if the word “susume” was any indication.
Ah, Sukoyaka sweet buns! (from the other episode about the festival)
HGPC 18
Don’t burn down your house with scented candles, kids!
Also remember to use your knees when lifting heavy boxes! (<- says a charity store volunteer, who does this stuff on the regular)
These days the mascots usually have a human form. I wonder if this is implying that particular direction…? (I woke up today and was craving a certain oneshot I’d read during my scanlation days…if it is, it would fill that niche nicely.)
I wonder if the kids will recognise this Ashita no Joe parody…?
HGPC 19
“…since you were young?”
Oh! Element of Wind again!
Koi to Producer 2
This almost feels like Victor is assigning a school project to Protag-chan…it’s a bit sad, really.
It’s nice they let Protag-chan have a personality.
It’s fine if you can’t read the katakana, but Gavin’s name is Haku in Japanese, so it throws out the immersion somewhat…also, I know I shouldn’t be complaining – I’m the target audience here – but do these guys look kinda similar or what…? (partially kidding)
High school sweethearts, huh? “Childhood friends” is my favourite angle of a romantic relationship, but it gets so overused by harems it comes around to being boring…!
I-Is this Stand My Heroes…?! (LOL…?)
Can we not with 1st person cam…?
As cute and dorky as this stuff gets…how does Gavin never get found?! Does nobody ever look up in this city?!? (I thought Evolvers were meant to be a secret…?)
GPS tracker? That’s no better than large corporations using your location data…Isn’t that creepy…?
Hold on, when did she get his phone number? You would assume it was before this entire chase after the boy happened, but still…?
LOL, the English on the board.
This anime is gonna cause me some frustration, but it gives the good stuff in roughly equal measure. It seems to omit the fact you interact via phone with your bois for intimacy (in the game).
Koi to Producer 3
LOL, that’s so clearly Gavin…
By googling, you find out Uptown and Queens are in New York.
Ohmygosh! Did the creators know I love the trope where only people with superpowers can move in certain circumstances?!
Uh…his name is Kira in Japanese? Did someone read the katakana wrong?
Pictured: Depressed bishonen eating bad pudding. (…That joke sounds better in my head. I forgot what meme I was meant to be parodying there, but I had a meme in mind.)
Lemme guess…this man (I dunno if it’s one of the previous bishies with an identical face or a new one) is looking for MC-chan. *sigh* Update: Yep, just Victor again. To be honest, I don’t like anyone who calls harsh words “their sign of love” – love should be honest and upfront. That’s how it becomes heartmelting.
Koi to Producer 4
Okay, in order, it seems to be hexadecimals, Javascript (you can tell from the “const”), some kind of profiles which are apparently for human lab rats (which seem to have some kind of nonsense filler text), a DNA model and DNA bases (ACGT).
The text on the screen says something along the lines of this being an official broadcast of this man’s arrest and this man was a genetic researcher. Obviously, if I wanted to put more attention into what it meant, I would, but I won’t sweat the details this time (because it doesn’t seem to impact the plot).
The guy’s name is Minor because minor key (geddit?)…that’s my guess.
I started playing the game due to this anime, if you didn’t know, and I unlocked an expert in ch. 2. I thought he was Minor, but turns out his name is Spine (an older man).
The diary, true to form, contains details about either one case or several cases, two involving children. The bottom of the 1st page says “if it’s fake, I’ll laugh”.
Hey, I once told Crunchyroll I wanted an anime about hacking (so is this a dream come true? I reveal all in the next sentence!). Hackers don’t congregate like this…they’d be too conspicuous, even with the secret hideout!
The code in the top left appears to be…C? I think? (Note they declare “unsigned int”.)
Kiro sometimes reminds me of Masayoshi (SamFlam)…it puts a derpy smile on my face.
*blah blah blah I’m Key* - Wuh…? F*** you, Kiro!!! (There is such a thing as piling too much cool stuff on to a character, y’know – I’m guilty of it in my own writing.)
3684 isn’t a very safe password (says someone who once aspired to be in cybersecurity).
What bugs me is that Simon is a perfectly fine name…it’s just a bit boring. Kiro/Kira I get (a bit), but Lucien/Simon…? *shrugs*
Ohh! Based MAPPA! Thank you for making this adaption look great!
Koi to Producer 5
Oh, I got an SR in the game recently and it has a line like, “Only a fool stays up all night to do others’ work. Victor talks like that a lot…
The sign so obviously says “Renka”, meaning “love flower”. “Loveland” really is a step down from that…
Where’s Gavin’s guest badge…?
“Happiness Noodle Store”…?
“…the end of our first year…”
If this weren’t a Chinese work by origin (or Japanese work by translation), I’m sure Protag-chan would have gone after Gavin, despite being told the contrary.
Kanya = Minor. I’ll take a note of that.
One of the books behind Minor says “Gale Start”…hmm…
That GPS tracker is still unintentionally creepy, IMHO.
Koi to Producer 6
…oh. (dejected) Probably a beach episode or something.
What the actual heck was going on with Lucien…? It’s like he was having a tiny stroke there…
Lucien’s power is listed as “???” in the game. I thought he was an aura-reader when he said “show me your colour”, but that shield thing he did means he might just have various psychic powers…? *shrugs* We’ll find out eventually.
Running in heels is hard…
LOL, that’s so clearly recreating a CG from one of the cards.
This is the 2nd time this has gone pseudo-isekai. As much as I like to joke about it…I fully expect someone to be sent to another world at this point.
I couldn’t possibly see Victor on any kind of game show, come to think of it.
Appare 5
This guy’s middle name is “Rich”! That’s silly!
A boombox from the 19th century…makes sense, somehow.
I only just (?) realised Al has a tiny tie on his usual outfit.
Back to the beginning already…just start!
Appare 6
…I just realised Appare mouths “I got it!” in the OP.
Al Lion (sic…?)
Isn’t Sofia in that train…? Update: She might have been, she might not. Hard to tell when they don’t confirm.
This series seriously could’ve done with a dub…Even with weird hokey Hetalia accents, it would be good stuff.
These bunches of people at designated points…reminds me of the book I was reading while in Japan. The Long Walk by Stephen King (part of a compilation). It still gives me shivers down my spine when I remember it.
This “leave in the middle of the night” thing reminds me of the Amazing Race.
“Valley of Despair” is made-up, but Death Valley exists. It’s one of the hottest places on earth, hence the name.
LOL, Kosame scores himself one (1) prarie dog and two (2) Hototos.
I thought Appare was being inconsiderate at first…but he’s being considerate, in his own way.
Oh! I didn’t realise, but Saito Soma is Al.
Appare 7
“It’s not one plus one, but one times one!” – LOL.
Hybrid engine? In the 1900s? Hmm…
LOL, I think Al just did a hadouken.
This stuff’s like an animated Galaxy Brain meme! It’s amazing!
I managed to successfully predict – without watching ahead – Appare would catch himself with his traps.
Kosame with his hair down…is rare. Not exactly attractive because we have to care about the racers rather than lust after them (and the artstyle actually prevents me from doing so, because it’s deliberately quite cartoony), but it’s rare.
Appare is surprisingly childish…that’s what makes him more than a Sheldon Cooper, I think.
The spelling of the place is actually “Ely”, if Google-sensei is any indication. C’mon, subbers! You’re American (most likely)! Can’t you put in the legwork (or the Google-fu) to discover what place in Nevada this is?!
Subbers make characters say “shit” a lot in this show, hmm? (contemplative)
Now this evil guy here *points to screen*…that’s hair I like.
Appare 8
I just love this OP…don’t you?
I like how the steam/gas boat/car has Chinese numerals on its dial.
Kosame means “small rain”, so “heavy rain” is obviously to contrast that.
The Hototo joke never gets old.
I thought I just saw someone leave the saloon…
Nice hair + terrible face = bad equation.
I can almost imagine the wee-oo-wee-oo-ooooooo…wah-wah-wahhh…(You know the one sound snippet, right? The one theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - or whatever movie it is – that maybe involves a tumbleweed rolling across the screen, and then a huge shootout? If you don’t know it, play a sample on this Wikipedia page!) playing in the background.
It’s convenient the prarie dog didn’t appear when Hototo (old) had his revenge spree.
I noticed there’s a bit of a mark under Kosame’s left eye…it suggests that he’s been crying (or maybe it shows tiredness from the race…?), but it’s not that noticeable.
So that’s the real Gil…and tose were his henchmen that threatened to hang everyone bar Kosame. Got it.
(notes to self) So, for charting a course with Appare Ranman!, it’s Los Angeles -> Death Valley -> Ely -> Denver -> ??? -> New York. Got it.
Fugou Keiji 4
“Daisuke-sama” isn’t “Lord Daisuke”, it would be “Sir Daisuke”, I think…but “lord” has a proper translation in Japanese.
The truck has a Shinagawa licence plate. Anime really does like Shinagawa, huh? (Based on ID: INVADED and this.)
I think it’ll be interesting to see Kambe handle this without HEUSC.
The board for Sanchome (which is equivalent to a suburb…or a county, I guess?) has posters saying stuff like “take your dog poop home” and “let’s protect the environment!” (technically, it says “let’s protect the region/area!”, but that doesn’t translate right. There’s even a flea market. Still, those posters don’t have any big hints…not that I know of so far.
I kind of forgot that dude was the gardener for Kambe’s house…er, mansion.
I noticed a poster in the kouban says haru (spring) on it. That’s probably the same one that Haru’s name is signified by, assuming that’s not in combo with another character or few.
Oh great…the sister is an overbearing one.
Ahh…he doesn’t like natto. So that’s the problem. Daisuke is childish (like Appare)…Note I don’t like natto either, but I wouldn’t run away from home (or similar) because I was fed natto.
I noticed Kambe uses shinseki (which doesn’t refer to close family). “Relative” is a correct translation of that word, I just wanted to check that word was the right one for the context.
There’s a green tea bottle by the sink…I don’t think I’d mistake that shade of green for anything else.
LOL, I didn’t think we’d actually get to see Kambe with his hair “down”, so to speak. It’s…an interesting look, for sure.
Oh my gosh! It cost him (Haru) $15!!! (LOL, cheapskate…says the cheapskate…*suddenly droops and stops laughing*) Update: Sorry about the sudden downer there. I was having what the kids these days call a “woke moment”…at least, I think that’s how they use that term.
…I’d watch that crime drama. It’s funny.
Just realised Kato has an older model of phone than Kambe does.
This episode was kinda like a Tokyo Sonata kind of thing, huh? The sensational in the middle of the not-so-sensational…”sensational” for this show, anyway.
Those kids look like the ones from Erased.
*lightbulb goes off in brain* What if the dog went to Kambe’s…?
Can Suzue actually hear HEUSC while Kambe is using it…? $2.46 though…that is cheap, in comparison to the ham.
This was the cheapest episode so far (about $550)…probably because it was an insight into Kato’s life, more than Kambe’s.
Fugou Keiji 5
The flag seems to be based on Cameroon’s (which is in Africa, not America) and the “Arita Kinen” seems to refer to Arima Kinen, meaning this episode is set around Christmas-ish. Credit goes to Kambe Zaibatsu on this show.
I-It’s a Humvee!
Polyadoll (sic)…?
The Poliador guy speaks perfect Japanese…(?)
The star! It’s a key thingy!
I thought Kamei was the 1st Division dude with the reddish hair. Turns out it was the blonde…? Update: Redhead is Hoshino.
Ummmmmm…he was reading porn…? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh…okayyyyyyyyyyyyy…
…oh, the costs for Kambe’s tuxedo are on there. So’s the cost for repairing the bike Suzue rode.
Fugou Keiji 6
I never knew there were so many money proverbs to be used as episode titles…
What is Kambe doing with his hands…? He’s not even using the computer.
Imura seems to use a Windows 10 with Cortana on the taskbar.
HGPC 20
What’s with all the Naruto running this episode…?
HGPC 21

Koi to Producer 7 | HGPC 3 | V-CRX Panel for Ex-Arm | BnHA OVA | God of High School 3
(re: V-CRX notes) I jotted these down at 6 am, local time, so if they’re not particularly coherent, then I blame my sleep-deprived self (...well, at least it wasn’t as bad as the person who said they got up at 5 am - now that’s a bona fide Saito Soma stan!). Instead of leaving the formatting until the last minute, I added in dot points while watching and so the formatting looks different (because the version of Word I have on the computer I’m using now does autoformatting). Some of the content from the panel reappears in this Anime News Network article.
(re: BnHA OVA) This OVA, the one about the survival training, is behind a paywall. I started a free trial on my regional Funimation sublicensor, due to a huge coincidence regarding Human Lost which ended with me shutting up and giving my money.
Koi to Producer 7
Does Victor like persistence, or…? He’s the master of mixed signals, that man…
That second eyecatch was…Gavin? Hard to tell, the dudes look fairly alike and even have the same hair colour (bar Kiro).
Why do even little kids have to manspread?
Looks like even Victor uses Windows 10, except the “window” is arched on the top and straight on the bottom. (see 12:07 to the end)
This is almost painful…seeing Protag-chan being spoonfed like a baby bird…
…way to point out the love interests mostly look the same, Koi to Producer. Lucien and Victor’s only differences are the slight change in hair colour.
HGPC 3
Going back for the rest of HGPC.
Kawai (river + well (for water))...that’s what I assume. Likewise, Sawaizumi seems to be made of the characters for “wetland” or “stream” (for water) and “spring” (for water).
Ex-Arm Panel (VCRX)
-          It was easier to follow the Japanese audio for some reason for me, especially with Saito.
-          It is a sci-fi/action at heart, but has various elements to it such as romance
-          It was decided to be 3D with a live-action director from the beginning
-          “new story” Kimura “received [the creators’] blessing” to do
-          Akira is an excellent cook, but not adept with machines – ideal protagonist, but mentally a high school boy – starts being hit by a truck – he doesn’t try to act cool – comical scenes between Minami and Akira, lots of trust between them so they can be friends – connects with Alma to fight at times – Minami is a “friend”, Akira is a “partner”
-          It’s clear the host Siobhan recorded her lines separately and her questions were probably asked by a person adept in Japanese and English at first – it seemed like she was reading from a teleprompter
-          Recording Akira’s lines was “something fun and new”, being conscious of breathing and human movements (e.g. breathing in, turning around when startled by something) was critical
-          “I wanted to include action that had never been seen in an anime before” – Kimura – production also used techniques that they’d never used before
-          “Freedom from gravity” was the biggest thing for Kimura that differed between live-action and anime, also the lack of Akira’s body
-          “I don’t get along with machines very well” – Saito – he still likes tech though!
-          This seems like – to me – a modern anime for the modern world.
-          “a device that allows you to communicate without opening your mouth” – it sounds like Harmony (No Guns Life)
-          Action scenes in 3D for the audience’s perceived involvement  first, get live-action footage, then turn it to 3D
-          There was (is?) an “action team”
-          I woke up at 6 am for this, so getting to know a seiyuu I’ve been stanning recently…it’s like a dream, but also a bit disappointing that the distance is a bit troublesome
-          Saito would want to be an electric guitar and team up with a guitarist (because he does his own songs), Kimura wants to be a drone
-          Both enjoying the original manga and the anime have their advantages. – Saito
-          Story about the protag’s growth
-          The special announcement was that some of the additional characters’ voices were announced
-          “sekai to seifu ni sensen”/”declaring war on the world [of SF]”
BnHA OVA
I got a subscription to my local Funimation sublicensor to get ahold of this OVA…make my money worth it!
Geez, the characterisation of Bakugo did a massive snapback…
…Someone ships Deku x Uraraka on the production team…
God of High School 3
Sometimes you just get tired of over-advertising and need a break from the one simulcasting anime. That’s what I was doing with this, but then I started craving magical girl anime and needed something different to back it up with, so here I am again.
Chibis, huh…?
Yup, I hear ya Miseon! You go girl!
I still think Crosshead here (Mujin Park) looks like Chrollo from Hunter x Hunter.
The saying reminds me of this song by the Presets.
There’s power behind every move…I can tell, because I’m an action writer and fan of action anime myself.
Hmm…”I can’t afford to lose!” Time is money. I think the subbers noted that with the translation.
Mori reeeeeeeeeeeeally likes bananas, huh?

Misfit of Demon King Academy 1 | Healin’ Good PreCure 13 - 14 | Lapis Re:Lights 1 | God of High School 1 | Muhyo and Roji’s BSI s2 1
Misfit of Demon King Academy 1
This originally had the ecchi tag on its anime entry on AniList…or, at least, that’s how it was in my memory…but now that I see it doesn’t have that, it’s just another reincarnation isekai-type series. Let’s dig into it!
I…think this guy is meant to be portrayed as “hot” because he has the piercing eyes and he’s tall (against the girls in what will presumedly be his harem), but he kind of looks like your standard Potato-kun in a white outfit…so, uh…*shrugs*
Uh…is that guy meant to be Indian? You can’t get more obvious than the “Indu” family. Update: You see his brother later and Leorg has fairer skin, so maybe not.
LOL, “Flame of Darkness” makes someone nothing but a chuunibyou.
Uh…this is called The Misfit of Demon King Academy, y’know? Anos (Anoth?) is gonna get in, you bet your butts.
The owl is cute.
…guy, that 3 second rule thing was actually funny, but the more you think about the joke, the less funny it gets. Show: 1. Me: Infinity -1
Just from appearances, I wanna guess Misha is an ice or light magic user, or whatever equivalent the show has.
Is this what Assassin’s Pride could have been…?
How did the mother (Anoth’s) think her kid maturing that fast wasn’t weird?
Mushroom gratin? Is that an actual dish?...Yep, seems so. Sounds nice. I like mushrooms.
What’s up with young mothers in anime these days? Then again, the only other point of reference I have is Masamune-kun’s Revenge…
I thought it was the other Indu guy we saw earlier. This guy’s…not that bad-looking, though (LOL, my preferences ring out loud and clear…)…welp, spoke too soon. There he is. Update: Leorg kinda looks like Hakuto Kunai from Demon Lord, Retry!, come to think of it.
If Zepes died several times over the course of this episode…would one more death actually matter? (Not really, to be honest. Zepes is a scumbag.)
Come to think of it, this anime got postponed due to COVID, yeah? Was that why there was a sakuga spot earlier…?
Was that Sasha (Misha’s sister)? I found her name while checking if the anime was postponed.
I like the colour choices in this show, at least.
I don’t think this show has the best sense of comedic timing. Let your jokes breathe, dammit! That’s what comedic beats are for!
In a season with more offerings, I might get rid of this or pause it, but the season’s fairly sparse as it stands (darn virus!) so it stays.
Update: I didn’t notice, but an Anime News Network staff member wrote that Anoth’s surname is familiar…if you read Harry Potter.
Healin’ Good PreCure 13
Gotta start in the middle for this and work our way back. Note I did watch the 1st 2 eps without subs earlier this year when they were on the official PreCure YouTube, so I’m ahead of most people.
(From wandering the wiki and the news) I’ve seen nothing but pink/blue/yellow Cures these days, so I kind miss the more adventurous colours like green and orange…but then again, I never really liked green. It’s the colour of envy and…as petty as it sounds, I think I developed that bias because green is stereotypically the colour of rot, vomit (aside from anime’s rainbow vomit) and stinky things.
I didn’t notice this, but there’s a faint highlight on the Cures’ eyes (red for Grace, purple for Fontaine and blue for Sparkle).
It’s a drone! In PreCure! Yay! (It finally hit me exactly how much of a distant dream it’s been – from watching Suite and episodes of most of the other PreCure ‘til now – watching PreCure legally as a simulcast is! It’s crazy and it only took, what…5 years between Suite and this? 16 if you count from Futari wa to Healin’ Good.)
Is it that drone?
Hah? This is almost like the electricity-themed PreCure I came up with on the fan wiki. It’s not like I could sue Toei for it, though…they own that stuff, I only own what came out of my own imagination.
The subs say “Rate”, but “rate” has a meaning in English. No wonder the initial wiki translations say “Latte”, especially because the queen is “Teatine” to match.
Okay, so Mei is the sis and Yota is the brother. Got it.
Hey! What if there was a PreCure where the villains had devastated another world before? That would really raise the stakes.
“[T]hunders” (sic)? Thunder is the sound, lightning is the flash. Which one is it?
I see. As soon as they identified it as the Element of Lightning, I sort of guessed they could add it to their repertoire later, and I was right.
Its’s nice to see they put a woman in the moving company as well. Proves that girls can do anything they set their minds to, even what are supposedly “men’s jobs”.
I guess from the face I should’ve expected the element to talk, like the Fairy Tones from Suite, but I didn’t really figure that out until I saw it talk,
I feel like Hinata should’ve gone to see how Mei made her juice. That way, the two might be able to make similar-tasting juice…but that’s just an idea.
Healin’ Good PreCure 14
I feel like Byogens were responsible for Nodoka’s sickness, much like they are for Latte.
“Energy Source” seems to refer to a place where energy appears…I know that sounds a bit dumb if you don’t realise genki hakken means something like “appearance of energy (for a person)”, but…yeah, the PreCure series is like this. Unfortunately, that’s what you have to deal with.
I feel like this “teamwork overcomes all hardships” message is important in this time of COVID-19.
Guaiwaru = “condition is bad”, or ill health (guai ga warui).
Is that the element of air? I thought the PreCure would’ve used their element of lightning to fix the steamer, but hey, teamwork works too.
I’m a weeny bit peevy they translate minna to “girls”. It’s correct in context when it’s been translated that way, but minna means “everybody”.
I imagined Hinata saying “Watashi no smartphone ga!” instead of “Atarashii sumaho ga hoshii!”
Lapis Re:Lights 1
Eh…COVID-19 means I gotta sample things I’m not so crazy about.
Why is one of the first lines in this show “My behind hurts!”?
Bristol? Is this England?...Nope, it’s a place called “Mamkestell”.
I was thinking this girl…I think the reviews said her name was Tiara…was going to sing to the flower to make it perk up again, but nup, she whistled to it. That seems a bit irrelevant, to be honest. (I would prefer an all or nothing approach to a wish-washy approach like this…as in, if this is an idol show, then either go all in with the singing and dancing, or do something else that’ll catch my attention.)
Tiara’s face looks hella generic.
For some reason, I get this ominous feeling when the word “witch” is mentioned…must be the instinct from Madoka popping up again.
Lemme guess. Lynette is the bookworm?...*sigh* Just another method of showing a character is a bookworm without actually showing their reading a book, which I think is counterintuitive.
Get some protective gear, girls!
Rosetta keeps saying “Yes” (in English).
Lemme guess…people ship the dumb one and the smart one? They’re like a gender-flipped Dice and Gentaro, only the smart one is more uppity and the stupid one is more sporty.
The word appears to be noumei, but that exact word doesn’t seem to exist. Lavie seems to say the word is the opposite to something else, but I can’t tell what that is either…
Albino rabbit, eh?
…people probably ship Rosetta and Tiara too, right? *sigh*
So there’s…no singing in this fantasy/idol show. Whistling is how you invoke magic…so how is someone who can’t whistle supposed to invoke magic?!
Whose idea was it to put the OP in the middle of the episode?
It was “Neechan, daikirai!” “Forget you” is a fairly loose translation…
Little Miss Rosetta = Rosetta-chan.
I think Tiara called Rosetta “sensei” when the former wanted the latter to take care of her (i.e. take her to their dorm).
Titi = Tiara. I didn’t actually figure that out because I thought it referred to the rabbits.
Gah! These almost-real-world names (or real world names, in regards to “Bristol”) are gonna drive me NUTS!
*sigh* Boob jiggle.
*sighhhhhhhhh…* Lemme guess, there’s a potential expulsion on the horizon? Update: Yep. Dropped.
God of High School 1
First Webtoon series I’m covering here.
Oh, I checked out the first chapter of the webtoon because CR linked it to their anime page. The only difference I’ve seen from that, aside from fleshing out the backgrounds, is…that creepy skull (?) on the wall.
You can tell it’s Korean when I don’t understand what the text says. (I don’t know Korean, but I do know some Chinese and Japanese.) Update: This is Japanese-dubbed, but they left the Korean text in.
That intro is much more powerful now that the backgrounds are fleshed out.
Ooh, the colours in the OP are very nice!
Hmm? They’re starting with the grandpa, rather than starting with “I’m Mori Jin, 17 years old”? Good choice.
The expressions in this show are funny. I like them already.
Waittttttttt…I dunno how Korean names work. Is Mori Jin’s first name “Mori” or “Jin”? Update: I checked it up, and I got even more confused!
KORG Arena seems to be…from Marvel? Like BnHA references Star Wars???
*sigh* Moonbucks? Again?...and of course the girls only talk about “hotties”. We need a Bechdel test in this thing.
The comments on ch. 1 said “A new Luffy is born”, so now I agree with it…but they’re not going to show how Mori Jin was enlisted for GOH (as they seem to abbreviate it)?
There’s Japanese, English and Korean in the afro dude’s comments.
I’m amazed that tall dude with the spiky hair wasn’t more surprised about Mori Jin and the girl passing by…
Would those glasses on Mori Jin’s head be any help? Update: Turns out those aren’t “glasses”…they’re a sleeping mask.
Kamina glasses!
They put CR and Webtoon advertising over everything in this anime…geesh.
These red parts of people’s noses are gonna bug me, aren’t they…?
It should be battle royale, right? Update: Okay, so I checked and both are correct spellings.
This seems like the sort of thing that would never get funded because you need to pull off every battle scene right.
They cut the initial fight with “Blondie” out, but that actually makes things more interesting! Good choice.
Lemme guess – Mori Jin is going to have to fight this Kang Manseouk guy at full power one day? *shrugs* (Can I stop referring to people by their full names already??? I can’t stop until I know which is the first name and which is the last.) Update: So the wiki finally helped me out and Mori is the first name and Jin the last, meaning I can call him “Mori”. Got it.
*Mori suddenly pulls the prisoner’s pants down* - That was…random.
I liked it more than I thought I would! (Just for reference, the other protag dude is called Han Dae-wi and the girl is Yoo Mira.)
Muhyo and Roji’s BSI s2 1
(Update for the Tumblr fans: I finished s1 outside the seasonal format.)
Kokkuri-san never goes well in anime…
Where does Nana work again…?
I don’t think Muhyo and Roji are legally (magically legally?) obligated to tell Nana anything about what they do.
Yay! Goryo is animted for the first time! He has such a beautiful voice~!
Notably, Roji wouldn’t have had a smartphone in 2004 (or whatever year close to that when the manga put this bit out).
Goryo (5) vs Muhyo (6). Didn’t figure this out at the time I read the manga.
I think the subbers misgendered Goryo. Goryo is a dude, as can be gathered from the name “Daranimaru”.
“Waka”? Does that stand for “young head [of the office]” or something?
Okay, whose bright idea was it to pair Now on Air (female vocalists) with Muhyo and Roji’s (a series dominated with dudes)…?
Ah, Funimation is on the production team of this anime. That would explain the dub rights.

HGPC 15 - 16 | Muhyo and Roji’s s2 2 (14) | God of High School 2 | Deca-Dence 2 - 3 | Fugou Keiji 3 | Appare 4
HGPC 15
Is this Element of Water? Or Element of Plants?
HGPC 16
I sort of suspected the three broke up because it would have been like someone stole Fumi from Tetsuya…and I was right. You know that myth about how guys and gals can’t be friends ever? It seems to be in service of that.
It’s Nodoka Hanadera.
…I wonder if this vow will become relevant later?
There was a poster for the Ojamajo Doremi project, Looking for Witch Apprentices (Majo Minarai wo Sagashite). Makes sense though – they’re by the same studio.
Fest = festival, although not in the matsuri sense of the word. It’s more like a smaller, non-seasonal matsuri.
I wonder if the tree will be attacked?
I’m still wondering…how does a penguin have paws?
Is there a tiny tree?...Yep. Just a small sprout, but it is a new tree.
Muhyo and Roji’s s2 ep 2 (14)
…and they continue to misgender Goryo…the manga’s finished translation, so I don’t see why the translator couldn’t go and get a copy to check. (Unless I remembered wrong and misgendering him was actually something they did up until a point? Looks are deceiving, especially in anime…) It’s even on the Shonen Jump website.
I realised that I’m the only Muhyo and Roji’s fan, possibly in existence, in the English world right now…if I were to leave this show alone, it would die alone…and that would be far too sad.
The Showa era was a time of great Japanese prosperity, so it makes sense that there would be lots of building projects too.
“Working from home” – Makes more sense in this day and age.
Oh, I didn’t expect them to put in a really close reference! This probably refers to Minky Momo, except that seems to be an 80s series.
…if this were any other series, this girl would get isekaid.
Japanese doesn’t have a lot of gender-specific words, like I know Italian does. When Ebisu says “Ma’am”, he’s going “yes?” in the Japanese and Nana goes “kono hito…” (This person…) rather than “This woman…”…If they’re going to dub it with all these references to Goryo being a woman intact, then I suggest they not dub it at all.
I think this is the first time Muhyo’s thrown the orb he generates…
I know all this misgendering is going to bug me, but…this is one of the first series I finished. I can’t get in touch with the translators to tell them they misgendered a character, because I have no authority – if I, a rookie translator, went up against pros, based only on what I know of the Japanese language and my memory of the manga…I’d be toast!...However, I shall try, for the sake of the manga I still cherish the memories of.
God of High School 2
Apparently this dude *gestures at this bespectacled man in the first few seconds of the episode* is Iron Man (well, Robert Downey Jnr.)…but also the POTUS. Yeah, that’s confusing, but I’m just parroting what I’ve heard.
Okay, someone explain to me what “charyeok” i-Oh. It’s a concept endemic to God of High School. You could’ve translated the Korean term, people.
Mujin…that sounds familiar…ah! The organiser of the GOH tournament! That’s why.
LOL, there’s a “Yes Man” in the brackets, paired off with Daewi.
Mori is eating a banana, huh? Way to play up the monkey imagery.
Slipper jerk…? (I admit it’s been a few weeks and several anime since I saw the last episode, because I was working on the boss battle for the AniList watching club, so remind me whio that is…?) Update: That would be Manseok.
I would assume the flashbacks are actually the characters’ introductions in the webcomic, if Mori’s was any indication.
LOL, I forgot how much advertising they put all over this thing…
So Mori uses taekwondo, but what’s Daewi’s style again…?
I would assume this refers to the Korean War if it’s referring to anything real. I’ve never heard of a properly-named style of anything which was an “anything goes” style, unless you count the various wacky martial arts in Ranma ½.
Geesh, Elfen Lied with its gore was a breeze to get through, but seeing scenes like Nozomi getting tortured (in Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka) and Gamdo getting his arm twisted here…that’s nasty…
Uhh…I swear this is just Hisoka (from Hunter x Hunter)…or Chrollo (from the same series). (LOL…?)
Deca-Dence 2
W-Wuh? You mean, Deca-Dence is a game of sorts?! VR or something?!
This aesthetic is very much like neurons…and cartoons…
(Spoilers for Kado!) If you’re wondering what’s going through my head right now, I feel similar to when Kado became a a fighting show and zaShunina the villain.
Ah, giant ball trackpads (trackballs). I miss those…
I think “The Power” is “ka no chikara”, but I might be wrong. Update: Yup, that’s what the site says.
This ED is interesting, visually speaking.
Deca-Dence 3
I get the feeling the girl – the friend - was programmed to say things to dissuade people from joining the Power.
A lesser show would discard Fennel, I think. See, he popped up in conversation the other time and now here he is in the…uh, digital (?)…flesh.
Sounds like AI, doesn’t it?
This guy reminds me of Kamina from Gurren Lagann…then again, so do the Inferno Cop sunglasses on Hugin.
Those rings on the white-haired guy’s hands remind me of Hifumi’s…for some reason, the host has them.
Pipe is a Gadoll, but he (?) reacts terrified to the yell of “Gadoll!”, hmm?
Fugou Keiji 3
It’s backkkkkkkkkk!
Ooh, mooncake! Also, Daisuke…okay, calling Kambe by his first name is weird, so Kambe…only has one stud in his left [ear]. That’s interesting.
Notably, there is no age listed for Kambe on the official website. We only know he’s < 30.
…LOL, Kambe is such a petulant child.
Ah? Rounin? (That’s what you call someone who failed to get into uni and tries again.)
Atsuta Jingu. It’s in Nagoya.
LOL, got in trouble for a barrel roll. (partially joking)
Ah, so that’s what Onuki and Miyano (voices of Kambe and Kato) were talking about at the con – the fact the director says a lot with a little.
Huh? Is this like that one killer who was streaming their stuff online to garner fans for the YouTuber PewdiePie? (I forget which prolific case that is, though.) Update: I think that’s the Christchurch bombings.
The stud seems to be Kambe’s connection with HEUSC.
The group’s name is read “Yokoitsu”.
Those missiles were just for producing smoke, it seems.
I just realised the finger gun from Kato in the ED looks a lot like Spike Spiegel’s (Cowboy Bebop).
Appare 4
I missed this anime as well! AMQ makes you miss shows even more than usual, it seems.
I love how they made a Red Stapler incident (see TV Tropes on an explanation for that) out of this one boat-car.
Not even tea can convince the great Appare…(partially sarcastic)
You need a big imagination to do a test run of a car in your head…
The song “I got it!” seems very appropriate for a moment like this (Xialian’s racing debut).
I’m worried David will ram Xialian’s car…
…I predicted it. What’s going to happen now…?

Fruits Basket 42 - 43 (s2 ep 17 - 18) | HGPC 27 - 29 | Back Arrow 8 | Fairy Ranmaru 9
Fruits Basket 42 (s2 ep 17)
Now that I’ve been to Kyoto between the time I read the manga and watching this episode in 2021…it’s nostalgic in a sad way that I may never be able to go back, due to COVID.
The series seems to forget sometimes it’s starring a bunch of dudes (plus a few gals) who transform into animals…
It’s probably because she made some (zodiac figurines) at the start of the anime, come to think of it.
Ooh! Arashiyama yatsuhashi! (thinks about Kachou Fuugetsu) Nice choice, Furuba!
Oh, Tohru gave her mum some yatsuhashi.
Fruits Basket 43 (s2 ep 18)
(no notes, sorry!)
HGPC 27
It’s nice they show women aeronauts as well. (Had to check it up, but “aeronaut” is apparently what you call a balloon pilot, aside from using “balloon pilot” itself.)
TONDA = I would assume a pun on the car company Honda, but also it’s the past tense for the word “to fly” (tobu).
HGPC 28
Darui = sluggish. That’s why Daruizen doesn’t seem to care about much.
Nebuzoku = lack of sleep.
Kedarui = languid, listless.
D’aww. This was a good anime during its own time in the height of the COVID pandemic. It’s even better, now more strains are worming their way across the world.
HGPC 29
(no notes, sorry!)
Back Arrow 8
Those black soldiers…they looks like colour-inverted Storm Troopers (LOL).
[stuff about diplomacy and washing each other’s backs] - That’s…an odd way of putting it, but the Princess is right.
They’re different walls that have to be broken in the context of their anime, but I believe the Edger guys and the Yamada bros (HypMic) would get along.
Ohmigosh, this Shaft guy has a choir! (ROFL)
…is that a Char mask…?
Fairy Ranmaru 9
LOL, the lump on the sloth’s head.
LOL, the pot on Birika’s bag.
Sharing an umbrella now, Uruu…? *thinks about romantic connotations of sharing an umbrella*
I-Is that a giant water flea in the green image…? (Why would there be a giant water flea?)
This...This is Freudian. *points at Uruu*
They really are water fleas!!!
Uruu seems kind of forlorn there…
I just realised the cyclical nature of violence in these episodes is like a fable…sometimes there’s a happily ever after and sometimes there isn’t.
Is Bakkun some kind of storage for healing magic?
Aw, Uruu, poor soul…(I think I understand why people ship Ranmaru and Juka now, too.)
