2022 was a trying year if I'm being honest. There were ups and downs, and we had many stressful events throughout it within my family. But while all of that happened, I wanted to try some movies I hadn't watch by then. Some were released around that time, others were movies that were already there. It was surprising to discover hidden treasures in the cinema industry, and I felt very fond to them. These movies helped me to keep going and to have my spirit and mood lifted. So, I wanted to draw them a Fanart as a tribute, freely inspired on the Six Fanart Challenge template by Melissa Capriglione.

*Sighs* So, tomorrow I return to school.

And I don't really know how much more time I'll have to do my own fanarts. But I really hope that I enjoy and take advantage of everything I'll learn this year. Only that maybe it would be more pleasant and less hard to bear if I wasn't so badly sick of my throat and if I shouldn't have my first class at 7 a.m. with cold weather.

Also I would have liked to use some more time to finish some of the projects I had in mind. Anyway, that's how life it is and I don't like to complain about it because even if life's hard, it isn't really bad. You just have to discover its wonderful charm. Life is unbearable if you don't know how to live it.

And finally this movie. I found it by chance and it brought up my attention. Especially it's unique animation, artstyle, the World building and the sense of epic myth storytelling. I can confirm this is much more alike the innocent and simple fairytales with which I grew up with when I was a child. I feel like many movies are missing that out today. If we could only tell stories as simple as that, without making it more complex than simplicity is already giving us...

I fell in love with all of the characters, especially the three protagonists. And Mune is so cute! The villain is a bit meh, but whatever, I'm just here for the ride to accompany our three little friends in their journey.

"I don't know how the war started. Maybe all that matters is how it ends."

This movie came out just a day before my entry exam, which I sadly didn't pass. After a very exhausting week in which my whole family got covid except for me and my nearest older brother, and I had to be in charge of everything and to not get sick before my exam, I surely needed a comfort. The Sea Beast came just in time for that.

I was super excited for its release since I saw the trailer, and I wasn't wrong when I knew it would excite that adventurous side I have. Since I read Louis Stevenson's masterpiece, Treasure Island and saw it's adaptation with Charlton Heston and young Christian Bale, I enjoy sailor and pirate stories to the fullest. It had passed some time after I saw a story like that.

The Sea Beast had everything I love from an animated movie: From a good animation, of course, epic adventurous sequences, charismatic characters, a well written fleshed out villain (not a twist villain or an unerstood antagonist) a cute adventurous girl, a majestic creature, a truly cute pet, found family trope, to a really deep message. I felt so connected with its message against war and imperialism, something so important and needed in these times.

God, what has this movie done to me? I fell in love with a porcelain anthropomorphic cat figure, what is happening to me? 😭 Anyways, turns out we were having a Ghibli movies marathon, and since we had never watched The Cat Returns, I decided to put it as well. My little sister says she loves what she describes as that feeling when a movie is so crazy that you get excited, trilled, confused and surprised at a time, and you have no idea what is going to happen next. She says that Ghibli movies are the ones that always achieve that perfectly. As cat owners and lovers, this movie was a roller coaster of positive emotions and was very funny to watch. My nearest older brother insists that Muta is the real hero. And of course, the Baron is a true Gentlecat. 😸

I decided to draw the background from A Whisper of The Heart, it's not I dislike the realm of the cats, I simply find Whisper of the Heart's landscape to be more creative and dreamlike. I like its design better.

"I'm always dreaming, even when I'm awake."

I felt just like Molly when I watched this movie for the first time last year: "Where have you been all this time? Why didn't you visit me when I was new, when I was young and pure?" I didn't grow up with this movie. I only knew it existed but never took the chance to watch it. Oh what I've missed, me that I've loved horses since I was a kid! After watching it with my little sister for my Saint's day (many people around many countries celebrate themselves the day of the Saint they're named after, mine being on July 26, day of Saint Anne) I just realized that the movie was about to have it's 40 anniversary on July 30, so you can imagine my surprise for that coincidence. It became a favorite for me and my little sister, and later on from the family after we showed it to them.

My little sister and I love the concept of melancholy, the tragedy of decadence, fantasy and philosophy. I personally love everything horse-related and we had a good opinion on Rankin Bass' movies since we watched The Hobbit. So this was a true delight. Everything on that movie is a fine work of art, the music, the theme... *Chef's kiss*

This drawing is based on one of the many dreams that the Italian saint Giovanni Bosco had, regarding the situation that the Holy Church has to confront.
