Once You Try One…Geissele Trigger.
Tumblr media
I get this exact comment a lot…and I mean at least every time aftermarket triggers come up in conversation with a a group of folk. My mil spec trigger in my AR-15 work just fine… no need to upgrade. If I only had a dollar for every time I’ve heard this. And to be quite honest, I too was one of those guys way back in the day. Milspec triggers work great for what they are. They do. They can be polished somewhat to smooth them out as well. They’re not bad, BUT why cheat yourself out of a better shooting experience? If you’re looking to improve on your match scores, such as in service rifle competition or 2-3 gun competitions, or just in general. Then why limit your self and your AR-15 to a mil spec trigger? That extra crisp break and lighter trigger pull can make a lot of difference.
Tumblr media
So since we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s focus on one particular manufacturer in the trigger game and that’s Geissele. Geissele manufacturing has long been known for their triggers. At one point they inly offered a couple different varieties and they were costly comparatively speaking. The Super Select Fire trigger was designed for SOCOM but Geissele offered the SSA or Super Semi-Automatic for standard semi-automatic AR-15s. The SSA triggers MSRP is $245 which is a heck of a lot of coin for a trigger. The price alone discouraged many would be purchases of this kind of excellence, including myself I must say. Over the years Geissele has come out with other trigger variants in both single and dual stage, competition and duty style triggers AND when working with companies like Brownells, Geissele has release exclusive variants such as the G2S and GC that can be had for half the price of one of their standard triggers when on sale.
Tumblr media
The Brownells exclusive Geissele 2 stage and competition triggers are like gateway drugs into the world of high performing triggers from Geissele. They’re so reasonably priced that they compete very well with other trigger manufacturers. Geissele is in fact a household name in the world of firearms so when someone sees they can pick up a Geissele trigger for sub $150 at times, they tend to lean that way. Then the madness starts… then they have to upgrade their other triggers to other Geissele triggers. I went down this rabbit hole myself and now have a host of firearms with Geissele triggers. My all time favorite Geissele trigger has been the SSA E X. The E is for enhanced and the X refers to the X bow trigger profile on these triggers. It’s kind of a hybrid between a traditional curved tigger face and a flat face. I tend to shoot very well with this particular trigger…it is an amazing trigger.
Tumblr media
So back to that original comment regarding mil spec triggers being perfectly fine. Well they are just fine. They’re a tigger and hammer that function with a 6LB trigger pull, no obvious trigger break when pulling. They’re just fine. But if you want that life turning event in triggers…get your hands on a Geissele trigger from Brownells. Once you do, no longer will those mil spec triggers be “just fine”.

Manufacturer Spotlight: Does Geissele Make the Best AR-15?
There are a ton of different manufacturers out there on the AR-15 market. Everyone has their favorites for one reason or another. There’s truly an AR-15 manufacturer for everyone’s budget no matter what that might be. You can spend as little or less than $500 or many thousands of dollars. There’s mass produced AR-15 rifles then there are more “boutique” AR-15 manufacturers or let’s just say “custom”. So who truly is the best mass produced AR-15? We’re going to discuss one of the more popular AR-15 manufacturers that is Geissele Automatics.
Tumblr media
For many years I have purchased various AR-15 parts and pieces manufactured by Geissele Automatics based in PA. They’ve made a well known name for themselves with various military contracts being awarded for their robust handguard/rail systems, bomb proof gas blocks, charging handles as well as their super crisp triggers. They even manufacture some of the most solid optics mounts in the industry. Not too long ago, within the past few years they started manufacturing complete AR-15 rifles and pistols.
Tumblr media
Just over a year ago while visiting Brownells, I got an opportunity to handle and shoot a Brownells exclusive Geissele Super Duty rifle package. The main thing that set it apart from Geissele’s other Super Duty offerings was the combination of OD Green anodizing on the receiver set, handguard and buffer tube with DDC flip up sights and tan furniture. Unlike other Geissele Super Duty rifles, this one came already packaged with a set of Geissele flip up iron sights ready to rock right out of the box. This was my first opportunity to handle a Geissele rifle and I was thoroughly impressed. It was a smooth shooter, maybe a tad heavy on the weight due to the barrel profile, but a well-built rifle. What I also noticed was the amount of attention to detail in things like the reliability enhanced bolt carrier group and new SSA-E X trigger. I’ve put my finger on many triggers over the years, but the SSA-E X trigger is something else entirely. With a hybrid flat trigger bow and light 2-stage…it can be run both fast and precise when needed. Kind of the best of both worlds.
Tumblr media
So how does Geissele stack up? Geissele has definitely played into their strengths of rail and trigger manufacturer, but their barrels seem to be meant for the harshest of use, living up to the Super Duty name. They’re cold hammer forged and chrome lined and have a unique taper profile placing more meat of the barrel back towards the chamber and less weight hanging out front. This of course does 2 things, it helps balance the barrel, but the weight being at the chamber helps to soak up the heat where the majority of the heat resides. Another notable component is the super 42 buffer and spring setup. The spiral wound buffer spring is less likely to fatigue over long round counts and provide a consistent capturing of the buffer and bolt carrier group under recoil.
Tumblr media
Is Geissele Automatics manufacturing the best mass produced AR-15? That’s probably subjective, but they honestly produce one of the best, no doubt. Geissele rifles and pistols are available over at Brownells and can be had for a very reasonable price especially when there’s some sale happening.

What’s a reasonable amount to spend on my AR trigger? I want something really nice but I’m not going to be doing long range competitions or anything.
Geissele SSA-E is the best all around trigger on the market.

Kit is still a WIP, but I’ve been happy with what I’ve been building up.
Dedicated IFAK pouch for the belt, new pistol mag carriers, and a dump pouch are still to come, along with misc. other improvements as necessary.
PC: Velocity Systems LEPC with Ferro Concepts cummerbund (big improvement over the standard elastic cummerbund, low profile while adding Molle and a lot more ridgidity and comfort) and a HSP D3CRM. Chest rig has 3 rifle mags, pistol mag, multi tool, medical, and a headlamp. Using Hesco L210s with First Spear plate backers to fill out the pouches and to aid comfort and airflow.
Bag: Tactical Tailor/Milspec Monkey Adapt pack, can be adapted to attach to a carrier but I prefer being able to remove a bag. Gloves, water, extra mags, batteries, ear pro, eye pro, and miscellaneous bits and bobs.
Belt: Ferro Concepts Bison belt. Huge upgrade over my old shitty padded battle belt setup. Thin, low profile, rigid, and comfortable. Definitely would recommend. Glock 19 in a mid-ride UBL Safariland with generic Amazon elastic leg strap. ITW fastmag for the rifle mag, which I love, and an HSGI Taco for the pistol mag, which I hate.
Rifle is largely unchanged, got a Ferro Slingster about a year ago that I like a lot, but otherwise it’s just heavy and reliable.
Bushmaster (lmao) lower with a Geissele SSA-E, BCM SOCOM 14.5” upper with a RIS II, Aimpoint CompM4, Surefire 600 Scout on a (slightly bent) HSP Thorntail mount, Surefire SF3P flash hider.
Nothing super Gucci, but I like the scalability and I’ve tried to focus on quality, well made kit. Had to make some color compromises on some items because the availability just wasn’t there, but full matchy matchy is for dorks anyway.
