Gareth is a big nerd about bugs, he was the kid who got dirt in his clothes every day because he was looking at bugs in school fascinated by them.

That’s how he met Eddie, he protected him from some older kids who were making fun of Gareth because his only company in the playground were the snails he was observing that day, the bullies got away after a while but still smashed the bugs, still Eddie helped him to give them a proper funeral.

Eventually they became inseparable even though Gareth was minor than him, Wayne has some photos of them hanging out in the trailer park where the freckled kid was showing at his nephew the most fascinating creatures: worms (their words, not his).

He also has photos of them playing to be the protectors of the bugs using sticks as swords, that was what gave him the idea of Eddie’s birthday present: a funny book with a dragon in the cover that was named as a manual for a game.
