Warm and idle were the lazy days spent so simply with a fond companion, endless alcohol and socializing that always seemed far too easy when in response to the chirping beauty. An entertainer at her finest, communication would flow naturally, and while he wasn’t exactly one to pry at anyone’s past, or recall a damn thing about.. anything, really, her picture came to mind when scanning newspapers that he had no ability(Not anymore) to read. A question came to pinpoints of gold as a calloused hand extended, a bit too quickly for his size to boast, to catch the wayward plumage and add it ceremoniously to the large barrel resting beside his calf. ... a zoan... not being fond of the form was only the tip of the iceberg.. avoiding her stalwart gaze was no great feat, but training his eyes on the small haul of offerings he had managed to collect was a gift of a distraction.

“Aye, I’m cursed, as is - ‘terrifying’ is a true way te’ describe it, but it’s more the shape. I hate wolves, ye’ see, and the sea? She hates those forms right as much as I. I ain’t got a hint ah’ love to spare for it, but you, Lass? Was it fear ah’ form or how it was seen? Because yer’ a right star in the sky, even as the ‘beast’, I wouldn’t worry yerself over it, aye?”

A distant amusement played at scarred features, as a display of ivory was finally granted towards the colorful gryphon, reassurance between monsters seeming to be a strong suit of his.

“I could go wishin’ it was a size as convenient as a pup, but the damn thing won’t fit in most pubs! I kin’ go standing taller than this building we’re in, an’ what would that get me? Less booze, as it were!”

my opinion on;

character in general: Mav is just… the One Piece-i-est character to ever exist. I mean that in the most humorous, depressing, well-rounded way I can. His backstory is fantastic and absolutely the sort of thing I’ve come to expect from this crazy show, and his weird relationship with his powers is particularly entertaining to witness and try to understand.

how they play them: It’s your character, so of course you write him with an accuracy no one can ever come close to, and it’s you so of course the character is high-quality, distinct, and kinda weird. (But like, good weird. Not bad weird.) You write in a way that is easy to react to, giving more than enough for your partner to play off of.

the mun: What do you want from me, Mavvy, what do you want? Shall I shout my love and affection and respect for you to the heavens? Shall I rearrange the stars so that you can read my regard for you every time you look at the night sky? Shall I make you more shitty graphics and throw them at your feet, like a cat at an owner who doesn’t know how to properly kill mice? Idle was the expression that reflected such blatant and flagrant suffering, after having completely defied any warnings prior to not disturb the cursed Queen in her time of bestial wrath. Suppressed superiority was one of his less redeeming qualities, the inclination to lead and to gather close individuals around him having been beaten, bit and bled out of the ashen beast by trial of rejection after rejection - he would never challenge her, but she could certainly smell the potential on him, couldn’t she? Because he wasn’t actually a part of her pack, was it? A loner by default, only allowed into the innermost sanctum because of his bond to the alpha... from what he had heard about the bastard who had died on her, he had been the same. He watched without much emotion, the monstrosity haul itself over to confront him, and a grin split his expression at the seams - what an ugly transformation, his was such a simple thing, barely even agonizing. (For some reason, he was aware that his natural-born other self had been similar, the shift to a monster being far less traumatic.) Even while the hair at his nape rose inelegantly, every feral fiber of muscle tensing in order to rise to a very obvious challenge, he simply shrugged. I wasn’t there for you before, so my Beloved be damned if I’m going to leave you alone now.

“Eh, do what ye’ will, Little Queen, but I ain’t budging an inch. I’m willin’ to bet ye’ don’t like being on yer’ lonesome even like this, an’ we know I can take a bite or two.”

And who here was the ghost? Was it her, who truly died in agony and horror only to return with purpose and passion? Or he, whose body continued to breathe, yet whose spirit had died thrice over? Was it her, who made bonds and lead armies, who struggled valiantly against bitter odds, who fought her demons and only lost a few times? She who fought GODS and changed the world? Or was it him, who was a specter? He who could not, and would not, fight against GODS, he who held nothing close and failed to defend what he held dear, he who smashed to bits every important thing, until REJECTION was the forefront of a waning sanity. (AFTER ALL, IT IS YOU WHO WAS FORGOTTEN, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. GHOSTS ARE THE PAST THAT ONE HAS MOVED ON FROM. WHICH MAKES YOU....) Even now, he trailed behind her like a lingering haunt, as useful as a rotten apple core, the only one among them who recalled the honey-sweet scent and view of golden wheat, the seafoam brightness that reminded him of his Beloved. He really was a fuck-up of a guy, wasn’t he? She was lucky she didn’t remember calling him ‘Big brother’. A fuckup, sure - but he was also relentlessly selfish - so here was a broad palm, extended first to take hold a firm grip against a strong, cold shoulder, to gently beckon the deathly knight to look his way. A free palm, calloused beyond the ability to feel much, would sweep icy locks from her brow, and even if she opted to behead him before he could make contact, a pair of scarred lips pressed evenly against the revealed dead skin. He had done things like that, a long time ago, she had to show him how, of course, since he’d mostly just growl about it... Palms would raise immediately afterwards in an idle surrender, and if no soul-stealing weapon had made itself known to his innards, the ashen beast would back up.

SCARS / BIRTHMARKS: He’s covered in scars from the various injuries suffered on the prehistoric island he survived at a young age, ranging from lacerations from dinosaurs and dire wolves to burns from acidic toxins from hostile plantlife. His signature lip scar was gained from cutting his mouth open on Yarou’s spines after falling from the ship as a child, and was the first injury he had ever suffered in his life. This mastery of Armament also allows him to coat his vocal chords in Haki, giving him his signature move ‘Hangman’s Howl’, which is akin to a destructive soundblast. RESTRICTIONS: Seastone cancels out Devil Fruit capabilities, and Maveric is EXTREMELY susceptible to it, even getting tired merely from the smell. He cannot swim, and will be unconscious the moment he touches the ocean.

No Face HOWLED: Does Mav know how to fight with weapons? If so, which would be best suited to his style of fighting?

He knows the basics on how to make someone’s blood come out with just about any murder utensil available, but most weapons aren’t conducive to the sheer feral mayhem that constitutes as the Bloody Moon’s fighting style. His fists are his weapons, combined with his ability to transform various parts at will, allows him to utilize sharp implements in conjunction with his signature Haki-coated ‘Howls’ for midrange antics - this does not mean he won’t pick up and use anything available that he believes will give him an edge, however. If pushed to the point of transforming, any weapon would become dwarfed in his grip, further discouraging their use. Maveric is, however, an amazing marksman with small firearms, a crackshot of the highest variety, but you’ll probably never see this verified.

He’s got basic training in most forms of weaponry, but prefers not to utilize them as his Zoan forms would dwarf anything he was currently holding and thus reduce it to a toothpick.

LASTING INJURIES

Nerve damage throughout most of his body from exposure to the toxic wildlife and ancient illnesses of a prehistoric island for nearly seven years - his pain receptors are nearly fried, making it a danger for him to suddenly black out from injuries that he did not realize were grievous. Maveric’s favorite pastime is visiting new islands or places and collecting various interesting trinkets to place in an offering to the Sea God. These gifts are placed in a wooden barrel and cast out to sea every time he plans to disembark.

Mav is six foot six, which isn’t entirely massive for a New World pirate, and weighs over three hundred pounds. He boasts decent nerve damage from the physical trauma he endured while on the prehistoric island, and as such, his pain receptors are near non-existent. He can feel basic pressure, heat and cold, but not very well, throughout the more exposed parts of his body. His hair is however very sensitive.

FIVE!! FIVE!!!!!!!!?

Due to the conditions of the prehistoric island he had been abandoned on in his childhood and being hunted constantly during said formative years, Maveric’s sleeping habits are somewhat chaotic, and he is prone to either literally never sleeping or being unconscious for two whole days, depending on whether his mind is kind to him. If he does sleep around you, however, he trusts you implicitly.

He eats like a shonen hero, being in possession of three hundred solid pounds of pure muscle. This boy can empty a restaurant of its contents, but probably can’t afford it, so he just relies on what he can get.

Maveric hates transforming, and will rarely do so unless pushed to that point. He doesn’t like wolves, he doesn’t like his devil fruit - he utilized it more when he was younger for survival, but at his current level of strength, he generally doesn’t have a hard time.

He squints so much because he can’t fucking see. His sense of smell and hearing, however, are even more capable than your average canine, even when in human form.

If he asks to sing with you, then he’s extremely comfortable, if he’s singing alone, then he’s also comfortable and likely contemplative, join him. If Maveric starts singing during a conversation or interaction, he’s about to fucking kill someone.
