Demons
About [three months] ago, we made first contact with a new alien race in the outer reaches of the [Long Bar], about [3500 LY] out from the rim of the Core. It was during a routine mining run in the system’s Far Belt that miners came in contact with an apparently alien ship or structure that had seemingly appeared overnight. They returned to the local magistrate and reported such a disturbance, which, after seeing it for themselves, reported it in to the Galactic Union. A small military and research fleet arrived and established a blockade around the… I’m not even sure how to describe it. It had minimal armaments and armor, and appeared to have little to no fighter capability (launch pads, deployment tubes, visible hangars save for what appeared to be a transport bay, etc.), but was just… absolutely massive. It easily rivaled our best Dreadnoughts in size and power signature, and judging by the unknown wake patterns about [.8567 AU] out-system, which we can only assume to belong to the vessel, it is using a previously-undiscovered method of FTL travel. Among the most disturbing revelations, are that it appears to use a “tunneling” drive of some form, and that its origin was from somewhere in the [Orion Spur]… approximately [9,000 LY] away.
This was the first among many surprises. The next surprise was the nature of its occupants. Only three were onboard. Three of these… things… for a [1.5km]-by-[.45km] vessel. Granted, we found what was to be assumed as mechanical assistants aboard the ship as well, so it was not as vacant as it first seemed. And these aliens, these demons… I would never have thought the [Mother] to have willed such creatures into existence. They are a whole head smaller than us, but are immensely heavy, and gathered from the crushing centripetal force generated by the spin of their ship, hail from a hellish gravity. They appear to rely on [water], among many other toxic elements and compounds for survival. Two of the aliens were already in a suspended, dormant state. As we are not certain how their method of suspended animation works, we have decided to instead occupy their vessel, for we do not know how to remove them without potentially killing them. One alien was awake, seemingly aware of our presence and attempting to hide. We attempted to give It the First Contact package, but it became violent and attacked us. It killed three elites before we subdued it and rendered it unconscious, although the intent was to kill it. It was brought aboard the science vessel.
But this isn’t even the worst part. The worst is their language. They boom out at a volume that is near-deafening without hearing protection. Their language is made of an obscene assortment of hisses, swooping howls, growling consonants, guttural clicks and… bumps, maybe. They make sounds during normal conversation I cannot describe. Much of their language is explosive.
An example of such language came from the alien, after it woke up, as best phonetically spelled by our algorithms: [exhale]OO AHR EOO PEEPEL. EOO-ER [pause, change of expression] EOO-ER AAYLEE-ENZS. OOAI HAAV EOO TAYKEN USS. OOEE KUM INN PEEESS. OOEE MEEN NO [exhale]AAHRM. OOER AHR [Z?]EE O[Z?]ERZ. PLEEZ TEL MEE. AI AHM [G?]O-NA[S?]AN [exhale]EN-DUR-SUNN.
It was visibly distressed and broke free of its restraints, attempting to find its compatriots. After wrecking the place, it gave up its search and collapsed in the corner of its holding cell. We eventually convinced it, by show of empty hands and dropping our instruments, that we meant it no harm. It became slightly more docile, and turned to look at us, staying in its corner. After a few bumps in relations, things began smoothing out. It began to speak far more quietly, and seemingly, calmly. We began with attempting to gain common ground in our languages, to no avail beyond exchange of names, and the name of his kind: hyooman.
Then, one day, out of the blue, after a linguist was complaining about her writing board, the hyooman mimicked our language. It said “stupid board”, in a rickety Galactic Standard. The linguist dropped her writing board in surprise and reported this breakthrough to the chief of research. They both returned to the cell, and to them the hyooman said “stupid board” once more, seemingly ignorant to the meaning. It gestured to the writing board, to which we honored the request.
It began to write out complex mathematical equations, and gave us a pictographic representation of the letters of its language. It spelled out “stupid board” phonetically using its symbols, as well as “human”. It drew a crude representation of the ration packs found aboard the vessel, with the symbols “F”, “O” twice, and “D”. He drew a molecular representation of [water] with “W”, “A”, “T”, “E”, and “R” as well. It pointed to both pictures and pronounced both in its language, floowed by gesturing to its oral cavity. We quickly understood and provided nourishment. From there, we were able to reach a light conversational translation, and it has identified itself as the male procreative gender of his species, and has breifly described its exploratory mission. We will keep the Ministry up-to-date as developments arise
