Me: Ok it’s time to work on something productive!!

My brain: ok but what if we didn’t do that actually *develops crossover and writes a spin-off AU with details down to the mechanics of each animatronic*

Anyway what if Mystery Skulls DCA crossover?

Close-ups and more info under the cut bc I’m brainrotting real hard about this:

So with this crossover (AU??) the story is mostly the same as the Mystery Skulls animated series, but with a few changes.

The gang all worked together in theater production; Sun and Moon were performers just like in canon SB, while Y/N and mini djmm were behind the scenes, doing tech, organizing events, etc. However, the crew also loved to go exploring, and Y/N, being heavily interested in the paranormal, usually led “investigations” into haunted locations. This was all for funsies and frankly, the boys just had fun going out and observing.

One night they go to an abandoned cave and get separated, and due to a… malfunction… in Sunny’s arm, he pushes Moon off a nearby cliff, tearing the poor bot to shreds. But! Whatever force that amplified the glitch in Sun also allowed for Moon’s will to stay alive and wrath to seek revenge on sun to strengthen, and eventually revive his sentient ai, piecing himself back together as best he can, with the rest of him materializing into a new body. Eventually, Djmm finds Sun and rips his infected arm from his socket, which brings Sun back to reality.

Sun doesn’t remember any of this except for Djmm tearing his arm away, and Y/N barely remembers Moon at all. In fact, all they know is Sun had a theater partner once, but one day they just vanished. Sun… doesn’t like to talk about it. He grows depressed, long after he gets repaired, and soon after stops performing to look for Moon full-time.

When he realized Y/N didn’t remember anything, he was conflicted. Confused. But once he realized he couldn’t seem to jog their memory, he kind of kept the events a secret from them. Not for his sake, no, but because he knew Y/N would blame themselves if they ever found out one of their silly escapades resulted in the death of someone so dear to them all.

Also for those interested, yes I designed Djmm with Mystery’s transformation in mind, here are some chicken scratch sketches I saved while I was figuring out their look:

Ok. So what was supposed to be me doing a simple dive to explain a certain OC. Kind of turned into a deep dive introduction of the warehouse AU. So here's a a post just kind of talking about the OC. You might need information from this post. Just a kind of understand how it came into existence. As I will just say stuff within that context. But

Who is Dim?

Dim is my dca OC. Unlike Ralph who is his own character built with no reference within the universe. Dim is most definitely supposed to be a daycare attendant alike.

You might have heard about Dim. More so in the fact that his design basically became blue moons.

Dim though as a character is a security protocol that basically gained sentence. Dim's names known by the public are Dusk and Dawn. Dim is the name given to them though because they are one AI. Something simple to not get confused with. Although it is something you should take into aspect.

Dim basically starts out as a security drone with a basic AI. Enough to make choices but not go against protocol or their pathfinding. Basically they could decide if something was a threat or not. If they decided that it wasn't a threat they would leave it alone. That was about as much choices they had.

That all changed though when that lovely drone was put into Sun and Moon's code. At first Dim was just supposed to take over for sun and moon security protocols. Which they did fantastically as they were only a security protocol to begin with. But while they were getting put into the same system as sun and moon. They technically also gained fazbear intelligence programming. Slowly gaining sentience through that AI network.

They are technically separated into dusk and dawn because, well, they are separate in personality. Dawn is more like sun. While Dusk is more like moon. Although the two personalities can meld into each other, which is what becomes more formally known as Dim. A separation that gets more and more finite, the more they exist.

Dim at first only really protocol, but due to the fact that they were covering for Sun and Moon, they had to figure out what that protocol was. So they slowly started to get taught by Sun and Moon about how to deal with things. They slowly learned how to properly scold children about dangers. They slowly learned what it was like to be human. Learning about human things and other things that normally wouldn't be much to a robot.

Eventually this started culminating in Dim making their own decisions based off of this intelligent network. They started to do things out of their security norm. One of these things that they did was watch a passerby play music. Technically when they were in their drone body they would watch this passerby absent mindingly. Mostly because he was on the property, and therefore a security risk. But he was always deemed okay. The security drone simply would process that answer for longer so that they could hear them music play. This culminating them to watch them purposely, after their basic security round was compete.

This was the first type of trigger that told everybody that this guy was gaining intelligence. And so Sun and Moon started to talk about the fact that he was getting intelligent. Alerting their creator about such a mishap. The creator though decided this was perfect. Utilizing Dim's interest in music in order to get them to play instruments for Sun and Moon. As Sun and Moon weren't comfortable playing instruments. Which although the growing AI was hesitant about. They greatly enjoyed when they finally did.

A Dim at that point just continues getting more and more intelligent having more and more human interactions. This continuing and continuing until he is properly seen as his own sentient AI. This is the basics about Dim that you really need to know.

And yes that statement about already knowing about Dim from Blue Moon is true. Dim's design. The design that I had for him, slowly transformed into blue moons. Dim's first iteration was seen as childish, fun, and decorated. Unfortunately halfway through the design process I gave up the design that would become Blue Moons. As it didn't really match what was happening in the story or how the character was supposed to act.

This sentiment has changed over time, but blue moon will keep his ribbons.

phew! a late answer but it's finally here: I present to you AOI!

Name acrostic: Artificial Outperformer Inteligence

He is an oc (based on another personal oc) that I adapted for the DCA fandom. I had never shown it because I usually find it difficult to draw the "stilts" of its legs.

brief explanation: In this story we are placed before SB. AOI is a robot purchased by Fazco from another company that specializes in security (since their own advanced technology is more specialized in entertainment). It was not bought by their own decision, but they were forced by the constant complaints and requests of the workers who work with the animatronics. These workers, although they do not know the entire history of Fazber entertainment and others, do know how dangerous these intelligent animatronics can be and the damage they can cause if they fail, so they demanded as a security measure the purchase of a specialized robot. specifically not his own product.

AOI's main job is to keep workers safe during maintenance and repair hours, but it also has the purpose of keeping animatronics safe from employees who want to break them or infect them with a virus on purpose.

Some facts and data from AOI:

• In addition to protection, he is in charge of escorting the animatronics to P&S

• Sometimes he must recover staff-bots or small cleaning robots from spaces in which they get stuck.

• Their design is based on the appearance of a samurai, and as the name might indicate, the company that sells them is from the other side of the world.

• AOI has detention protocols for each animatronic (image below right). Basically he knows the weak points of each design and can use them if necessary.

• In addition to the AOI protocols, it has electrical conductors in both hands, which give a kind of electric shock that serves to paralyze both humans and animatronics.

• AOI's leg stilts are used to reach high places, run very fast, and maintain balance in confined or narrow spaces, such as ceiling joists.

• AOI is forbidden to be seen during Pizza Plex's opening hours, so he stays hidden. Some people have managed to see it for moments and there is a rumor of the existence of a "secret company animatronic".

• The workers at the Pizza plex love and treat AOI as a kind of mascot. AOI is able to hold logical conversations and is usually pleasant

• AOI, on the other hand, is not highly appreciated among animatronics (except for staff-bots and cleaning robots that have him as a hero). Most avoid it when they see it

• Having an equally advanced AI AOI was also interested in "being friends" with the glamrocks, but it seems that it is not possible

• Bonnie was the only one who was able to hold calm conversations with AOI.

•AOI also has a security protocol against intruders. In addition to using the electronic shock, he has the command to lock the invader in an office and give a report to the employees the next morning.

• AOI's jaw is locked, but he can sometimes open it and break the lock.

• The robe that AOI wears is a kind of haori, and he uses it to cover the logo of the company that created it (Fazco's policies).

• When one of the animatronics refuses to accompany him to maintenance, he has the mission to "hunt" them. He doesn't really like to do that, but he knows it's his job.

• His head works as a kind of light screen where his protocols and "false eyes" are reflected.

• AOI likes tattoos, but can't have them, so instead he gets small stickers to use as replacements.

• AOI is deeply interested in learning about the daycare and its attendants who rarely require maintenance...

Tbh I don't have a specific story for him, but I did have in mind a few scenes and interactions from AOI, the animatronics, Eclipse and the DCAs (here they are separated). I think at some point I even considered pairing him... but it never got very far.

🎭 - Tell us one cliche/trope you love in AUS and one you dislike

Truthfully, I love most tropes and hcs this fandom has come up with. I'm particularly fond of the autism one for entirely unbiased reasons wink wink (especially Sun hand flapping and Moon verbal stimming -- OGH that gets me good). You'll see both of these pop up in DMD, as well as some moments of OCD with Moon. As for tropes I don't like...I'm struggling to make a list because, like I said, there's really not much I disagree with. A single trope does come to mind, however, and that's the infantizing of Sun. I don't mean woobifying him (please, by all means), what I mean is when people write him like a literal child, when all he does is throw temper tantrums or appear so innocent you'd think he was in kindergarten. My sun is clever. Sure, he's got his moments of pouting, but if he's acting dumb it's all part of the game, it's because he wants you to think he is, not because he genuinely can't tell left from right. The trope just really gets to me lol

✔️ - Tell us a random fact about any of the characters in your AU

Here's three (3) random facts!

Sun has something of a vanity problem. Not to say he isn't incredibly kind and generous, but he's the type to spend an hour using glass cleaner on his rays until they're sparkling just right. Or, at least, he used to. When there were still people to see them.

Moon has the mall entirely mapped out and memorized. The mall blueprints are uploaded to their system, so that's a given, but I mean to say that he knows the exact amount of steps between the candy shop and the start of the food court, for reasons not yet disclosed but which are heavily plot relevant.

y/n is directly related to an old (and frequent) customer of the mall from its glory days. Too bad they haven't the slightest clue!

🌒 - Do you prefer Sun & Moon to be separate animatronics or share the same body?

Depends on the AU, really! They share a body in ICFY because that fic is very canon compliant, whereas I chose to have them be separate animatronics in DMD because I thought it just worked better, story wise. I like them both ways, so personally, it just comes down to which better assists the narrative as a whole!

🌻 - Who are your favorite FNAF characters, aside from the DCA?

Bonnie my beloved 🥺 I've always had a soft spot for them. I like Freddy, too, (maybe by default, or simply for nostalgia's sake), but my favorite is and has always been Bonnie, with Ballora taking a CLOSE second.

What's the backstory behind the Monty in Wonderland AU?

Ifffff you're meaning how it came to be, well…I can explain that real quick, but I'm sure you're probably meaning moreso the story of the Au a bit?

Or a 3rd option that eludes me…

Anywho, I shall be answering the first two above! And Hopefully you are prepared for a bit of a ramble here! ^-^

Monty In Wonderland or MIW came to be because of an ask to do with pocket dimension JDCAU (the asks apply to canon of the AU but are initially happening in tandem from a separate pocket dimension, fun stuff!) But because of lil lore tidbits on that Moon I had a lovely question from FriskHeart to do with 'Alice in Wonderland'

And this lead to some silly banter in response from the beans on how Moon kinda acts like Cheshire with how he messes with Monty when they joke together and a silly comment about the idea of 'Monty In Wonderland' sounding silly

A good few of my DCA au's have little ties to JDCAU or others but…that is neither here nor now is it? :3

Butttt….that lil ask sparked my creation of turning a silly originally one of comment into an Au!

As for the Au itself…

Welllllll….I can't say I have a ton planned out just yet, a lot of loose ideas and bits and bobs kinda thing atm (I find it easier to plot out Au's that have a heavier basis in Canon…case and points being JDCAU, LSAU, CTAMK and to an extend J-TOL)

I do plan to have a good mix of both Fnaf SB canon and the original 'Alice in Wonderland' so i need to do some planning on all that to merge it nicely but also put my own twists and headcanons in as well of course ;3

I have a handful of characters roughly figured out and the medium tho so that's a start! ^-^

Writing with occasional illustrations (much like the original books, this lets me show of pretty (in my opinion at least…) designs and scenes but gives me the flow of 'nonsensical' writing that actually makes sense but sounds like it doesn't

Monty (as the AU title suggests) replaces Alice, he's still an animatronic, still the same metal gator man except for the fact he is in a…old fashioned child's dress that will NOT come off, it is way to snug and SHOULD rip but its just...stuck. And he has no clue where he is or what's going on, things feel familiar but not, familiar faces that look….more organic the he's used to seeing.

Everyone's more…animalistic and fantastical and what is WITH the old timey clothes, we're not in the 80's aesthetics anymore and its really throwing him for a loop here.

And what's more the Moon here…or the one that's LIKE his friend Moon 'Cheshire' is reallll sassy, much like Moon is but dialed up to a 11 (man…what a jerk they are) and Monty can't seem to wrap his head around anything in the place or what is and isn't real, all he knows is he needs to find a way to get through the strange 'land of nonsense' and get back to the plex where things are NORMAL again…more or less normal at least as a pizza plex with sentient animatronics can be at least.

FNAF DCA QUESTIONNAIRE I decided to fill out for funsies. Link to the original is here.

1. How did you get here?

That is a great question. Honestly I feel like I stumbled ass first into this fandom and now I'm just kind of here to stay for a while.

2. Why these characters in particular? What was the hook for you?

I think the hook for me personally was the fact that the DCA is, in essence, a caretaker, which oddly enough called out to the inner child in me.

3. How long have you been here?

In this fandom specifically? Only a few months at this point.

4. Have you actually played FNAF sb?

Yes and it was a frustrating ordeal. I got lost multiple times because the map was absolutely useless and at times I got confused as to what my next objective was. But I did manage to eventually get to 6am.

5. If you make content what is your favorite piece you've contributed?

My favorite so far that I've contributed personally is my AO3 fic, The Daycare Attendant's Little Assistant, where you the reader are a kid who befriends the DCA. It takes place before the events of Security Breach and just has a lot of wholesome fun as well as some hurt/comfort.

6. What's your favorite sort of art or fic? What genre/flavor/style?

I love me some wholesome content. Give me all of the hurt/comfort and warm fuzzies.

7. What's your favorite au?

There is this one Cowboy Au that looks like a lot of fun. I believe it's by @castercassette .

8. Do you have any OCs, or have OCs that you are fond of?

This may be a little biased but I'm rather attached to my y/n from TDALA. They are just so grumpy and salty about life (for reasons) and they do not start off on the right foot with Sun and Moon at first.

9. What do you think of the dca's Canon appearance? Scary? Cute? Something else?

I know I'm probably in the minority on this but I absolutely love Sun and Moon's canonical appearance. It's the perfect blend of creepy and whimsical, a combination I enjoy playing with when writing them.

10. What keeps you in this fandom despite the small amount of Canon content the DCA had?

A combination of things. One of which being the there are a lot of fun and awesome people I've met through this fandom in just the short time that I've been here, but there's also a lot of fun and creative stuff to he had here. And there are no shortages of lore and theories revolving around these two.

11. Be honest: if you had to pick only one, sun or moon?

I cannot put into words how much I hate being asked this. But fine, gun to my head I would probably pick Sun because he's the one least likely to kill me.

12. Thoughts on eclipse?

Again, I feel like I'm in the minority on this when I say that I really don't have strong feelings towards Eclipse. Cool concept, the art surrounding him is pretty neat, but that's about it.

13. Thoughts on pre-glitch sun?

So many. And the fun part is I get to explore them in my fic. Before the glitch, Sun is a lot more put together. He still has his overly zealous tendencies but a lot less of the anxiety and clingyness we see in game.

14. Thoughts on pre-glitch Moon?

Another fun concept that gets explored in my story. Moon has always been a bit of a gremlin, but he plays into it for fun. He's fully aware that kids find him slightly more unsettling than Sun but he tries not to let it bother him and instead uses that to his advantage.

15. Do you interpret sun and moon as two sides of the same person, or truly two separate beings in one body? Does it matter?

Oh I absolutely believe that Sun and Moon are two different personalities in one body and good luck trying to convince me otherwise. I don't know, I just think it's more fun that way.

16. What's something in the fandom you like to see more of?

I always love seeing new theories, not just about the DCA but security breach as a whole. The FNAF franchise is fun but dang do they just love to leave things vague and leave it to the fans to pick apart everything.

17. What's something in the fandom you'd like to see less of?

NSFW content. This is merely a personal preference and no judgment to those who do enjoy it.

18. Anything you're looking forward to?

The DLC as well as the upcoming series of books featuring The Pizza Plex.

19. Do you think you'd actually get along with the DCA if you met them irl?

Oh, absolutely. I would probably have to take Sun in small doses because I'm just eternally tired, although who knows maybe he could just spot me a few Sundrop candies and I'd be fine. And if Moon is willing to help me sleep (like just night time sleep and not the eternal kind) then we'll be best friends forever.

20. Free space! Talk about whatever is on your mind!

I'm really glad I joined this fandom. I've been having a lot of fun so far and it's gotten me back into writing and drawing two things that I both agonize over and find a lot of joy and comfort in. I hope to make more friends and fun times while I'm here.

So I had this dream…

I have to type this dream down because it was so excruciatingly lucid and felt so real where I feel as if I don’t type it down, it’ll be forgotten (currently it’s already fading).

From what I remember, it started off with me going to a club meeting for one of my orgs on campus, but suddenly I just felt like I couldn’t be there anymore. I felt exhausted and depressed that I had to excuse myself from the meeting.

I left the Campus building I was in, but this building was like none of the buildings I have on campus irl. It was a beautifully preserved evergreen and dark oak Victorian-styled mansion that was, of course, repurposed as a college building. I remember looking up at the top and thinking “Huh what’s that up there? An observatory?” So I trekked the 5 flights of stairs to come across a very odd museum. There were so many odd objects scattered about, as though it were a shop rather than a museum (it was still a museum, I know it with there being displays and how I felt I couldn’t touch anything).

Yet, I knew I still wanted to get up to the observatory, but unfortunately I don’t remember this. The next thing I know I’m awake in some floor with multiple halls and doors of somewhere (this will be revealed later).

It felt like some backroom of facilities with the pipes and concrete walls. But then I saw character designs and colors as I stepped out into the first hallway. I was back at the Pizzaplex. This pizzaplex felt very different and updated than the ones I’ve dreamed up in the past. It was weird this one was different. However, there was no one else here, until I did run into someone: the White Rabbit. Next thing I knew I was out cold again. I feel like the rest is a bit blurry and hard to remember, just like the observatory adventure.

I remember suddenly being with the Daycare Attendants. Yes I said attendants. They were separated but they seemed…different. Still the same designs but Sun’s eyes were this very bright baby blue color, while Moon’s eyes were a dark navy (?) red(?) I don’t remember besides the bright blue eye in his forehead. I really don’t know why they were designed like this, but maybe it had to do with the fact someone was experimenting with them. They were already separated, so that’s certainly one piece of evidence besides the eyes.

We were trying to escape while avoiding the White Rabbit and someone else. I believe his name was Elliasenhower D. It’s hard for me to remember the name exactly but I remember he had a long first name. Anyways, we certainly ran into issues quite a few times, where I would be captured and returned again to the facilities room. I will say this that the “pizzaplex” felt more like…a rough draft. Like it was all fully functioning but there was just a weird feeling it wasn’t officially ready for the public.

I might be getting things mixed up around here because I remember escaping through this hole in the ceiling where I could use the pipes to climb up. I promised the DCAs I’d be back for them as I climbed up into the hole, moving dirt out of the way. The next thing I know I’m by this large willow tree that I remember seeing in front of the building from earlier. I look around and up…it’s the campus building…

This weird and new Pizzaplex is under the campus building. I finally pulled myself out of the hole and not wasting time to call the police and let them know what’s happening (In my dreams, the police, y’know, are actually good and just). However, I looked to the entrance of the building and a man all in purple was approaching me (“IS THAT THE PURPLE GUY?!?!” -Markiplier probably). I knew I had to try and run to escape, but I was too late. I was jabbed with a needle, and before I passed out, I told the police to hurry and come as quickly as possible.

The next part is, once again, blurry, but I think I was about to be experimented on. I want to state that the reason I called the police wasn’t only because I was kidnapped, but this Ellias guy (who I also told the police was the missing William Afton because now that I think about it …Alias…Ellias…sound pretty similar) was completing experiments on animals and humans to better make the animatronics seem lifelike and humanlike. Y’know, less programmy and robotic, and more able to interact with the future pizzaplex goers. The animals were just those initial tests, but I was to be one of the many who would be used in his experiments.

But like some sort of movie, the police came just in time to save me from certain death. Ellias was arrested and the police would start to investigate. Y’know, I just remembered a conversation between me and him before the police came.

“Who did you call up there?”

Silence

“I said WHO DID YOU CALL?”

“No one. I couldn’t have the time.”

“You couldn’t have called ‘noone’”

“Fine, I called my mother”

And that seemed to let his guard down, but little did he know my mother gave me very good advice irl: “Always call the emergency services first before you can call me.” It makes sense in my experiences I’ve had irl with emergency situations, which I don’t plan to go into talking about right now.

I was checked over by the ambulance services, but then, I remembered: where were my boys? My DCAs? I promised I’d come back for them…

They were completely shut down. Like their programming was taken out, but luckily their bodies in-tact. I remember taking them (surprisingly they were light to carry). And going to the car driven by my Stepdad who had grabbed a meal for me before he got to the scene of the investigation. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I smelled the greasy fast food of McDonalds lol.

But before I woke up, the timeline reset…

I was back in the pizzplex again…

More dangers

Everything seemed older and disgusting…

But at least I had Sun and Moon to help me escape.

The only issue was this…

The police never did come.

I was never saved.

I remember looking and seeing that my own humanity was shoved into the programming of Chica.

It’s the only way I can explain the last part and why the other animatronics were after me, since I wasn’t quite done being programmed.

Anyways, lol weird dream. I got work to do.

1. how did you get here?

I was originally drawn into the fnaf sb fandom by the papa bear Freddy and his gremlin child Greggy (found family is one of my biggest trope weaknesses hjdfg) but then i started seeing more content of Sun and Moon and i quickly started getting atttached to the funny jesters xD

12. thoughts on eclipse?

Very much blorbo/skrunkly material! I love him lots and i love seeing all the various takes on him! Whether he be a separate entity to Sun and Moon or a literal fusion of them both, both options are great :D (tho i am very much a fan of the third sibling version <3)

Also i adore the fact that Eclipse has even less canon content than Sun and Moon given that he only appears as a glitched sun figure in the balloon world mini game with no name, and yet the dca sub fandom still latched onto him and made him a skrunkly xD i heckin love it ghfdfg

yesterday i left off after the unsurprising revelation that the Flag Smashers have eco-fascist talking points - to be clear, they’re not actually eco-fascists, it’s just that they exist to be a made-in-conservatlandia caricature of radical leftism (that cannot but turn bad) and the eco-fascism taking points make it a tad less on the nose for the non-conservatives who want to believe they’re being catered to.

the Flag Smashers aren’t supposed to even hint to a real ideological alternative to that which is pushed by the show: they suscribe to the view that injustice is basically baked into humanity, or as Sam said “making things better for one group makes them worse for everyone else“. they don’t disagree with that premise at all, and in fact reiterate it when Karli Leader Lady outright says things were better before the Blip because there were fewer people, and now things suck because all those refugees getting repatriated is eating all the ressources: making things better for Blip victims is making things worse for everyone else. (also amazing inversion here, with the US military and government and let’s just say first world countries since lbr who the fuck do we think has power in the GRC doing A Lot for “refugees” and the caricature-radical-left baddies arguing *checks notes* that the gvt is allocating to many ressources to the refugee crisis. no one actually says refugee crisis but like. come the fuck on. this comes back to the Flag Smashers not being any kind of real ideological alternative: even under the eco-fascism talking points they’re just rehashing anti-immigration conservative rhetoric.)

where their views truly diverge is in their, ehr, solution to the inherent injustice problem. they’re not into maintaining the status quo as the least worst option, but they’re not really into changing it either - they don’t have an alternative to the curent world order to offer: theyre ‘against borders’ but again, that kind of stuff’s just there to make them look radical-left-adjacent. what they’re into is fewer people so that the ones left have moar ressources.

so when we pick up, their ideological stance’s just been revealed to boil down to “we had a glimpse of how things could be” when half the planet’s population killed off, and then Flag Smashers hint they have something big in the plans for the next day, so big there’ll be no going back. also their motto is ‘one world, one people’, because 'stand up, damned of the earth’ would be too on the nose even for this show.

meanwhile, Sam and Bucky go visit Bucky’s...not friend? a guy he knows called Isaiah in Baltimore, where we first get a scene with two black kids calling Sam ‘Black Falcon’ when they recognize him in the street. he pretends to be Not Amused, stopping to say it’s just Falcon and ‘do u want to be called Black Kid’ but hahaha he was joking, not being serious. social commentary bait - i kinda want to like that scene, tbh, because it’s less artificial than most of the previous ones, but also the situation is written so that Sam can’t really say how he feels about the moniker, because he’s talking to two black kids happy to see a black superhero - one of the kids even explains it’s his father who told him to call Sam Black Falcon.

and it still ends on haha joke now, which is kind of a pattern in this episode, and we move on to Bucky’s not-buddy Isaiah. they met during the Korean war. Bucky was with Hydra killing US soldiers there or some such and Isaiah was sent by the US military to deal with him and they fought it out in a bar in Goyang. it’s unclear why neither finished the other but that was their one and only interaction until now, it seems.

Isaiah laughs when Bucky says he’s not an assassin anymore, because you think you can wake up one day and decide who you wanna be? doesn’t work like that. Isaiah is a black man, so when he adds that ‘well, maybe it does for folks like you’, it sounds like he’s saying something to the effect of ‘systemic racism means only white people get second chances and that’s deeply unjust and i’d know because that’s my life’ or maybe ‘people don’t change but systemic racism lets white people pretend they can’. the end of the episode also gives you the option to see it a Hydra dig. no, really - turns out Isaiah’s serum-enhanced, and it’s not yet clear if Bucky wants intel or more from him, but Isaiah doesn��t care that there are superstrong meanies out there because after his Heroic Time In Korea he spent thirty years in jail being experimented on and he’s understandably Done; ‘even your people weren’t done with me,’ he tells Bucky, but the twist is that at the very end of the episode Bucky comes back to that conversation, going ‘when he said my people’, and Sam tells him not to take it to heart and ~that’s not what he meant~. which Bucky already knew, because by that Isaiah meant... Hydra.

so there’s that. the wonder duo gets thrown out, and Sam’s pissed too because no one’s ever told him Isaiah, black super soldier, existed at all - but his attempt at confronting Bucky on that is cut short before he even gets to ‘were u going to tell me or anyone at all that said first black super soldier spent thirty years being experimented on in jail or is it fine with you that it’s all been hushed up, what the fucking fuck man‘ because enter two white cops. racial profiling scene that turns into sorry Mr Wilson i didn’t recognize you without the goggles (unlike the army, the police very much can be shown in a bad light) means that if Sam doesn’t get to confront Bucky, Bucky does get to say he remained silent on the matter of Isaiah because Isaiah had suffered enough. Sam doesn’t get to confront him on that excuse either (reminder that Bucky hasn’t seen Isaiah since friggin Korea and thus is unlikely to have any idea what Isaiah actually wants; maybe he’s superdone superheroing but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t want a measure of justice if he could get one), because there’s a warrant on Bucky, who missed court-mandated therapy, whoopsie, and thus is under arrest and taken away.

there areno real repercussions to that because Discount Captain America gets Bucky out of his police station cell in a jiffy ince the world is small and DCA and Bucky’s therapist know each other from the army. said therapist is there too, to force Bucky and Sam into making-up through a therapy session in an interrogation room. somehow it turns into queerbaiting when the therapist tries an exercise she ~uses with couples trying to decide what kind of life they want to build together. it’s the miracle question, and the miracle they both want is for the other to talk less, because it’s back to banter, baby. Bucky gets to talk about what aggravates him in Sam, and of course it’s why did you abandon the shield blah blah blah you threw away Steve’s legacy and maybe Steve was wrong about you whoop de woo it’s really about Bucky himself, because then maybe Steve was wrong about Bucky too. cue the violins. Sam gets to tell him he did what he thought was right, but he doesn’t get to reopen the Isaiah confrontation or the cop situation or anything weighty and instead a deal is made: deal with the Flag Smashers, separate and never see each other again.

DCA was waiting for them to once again offer working together, and explains he thinks the Flag Smashers will be distributing their medecine in camps in Central and Eastern Europe - and since those camps are Blip refugees camps he’s either wrong or it’s probably not medicine that’s going to be distributed, unless the show drops all pretenses of coherency. he doesn’t know where they are though. there’s antagonism, mostly from Bucky and DCA, and still no working together, but Sam’s reason this time is DCA needs authorisations and shit whereas him and Bucky are free agents who can do whatever. as proven by *checks notes* his government property drone, his work for the USAF, and Bucky’s court-mandated therapy.

meanwhile in Slovakia the Flag Smashers are loading an airplane when new players enter, peeps working for ‘the Power Broker‘. they kill one of the Flag Smashers but the others get away. the Power Broker seems to be behind the ‘u stole from me imma kill you’ text, and it all seems overkill for stolen vaccines or whatever, and since the Flag Smasher’s super strength is apparently serum-induced and Hydra’s fucking everywhere maybe he’s the middle man.

and finally, as covered: ‘when he said my people’, Bucky starts - and immediately Sam tells him not to take it to heart and ~that’s not what he meant~ because friggin Hydra. so instead of Sam getting to read the ‘were u going to tell me or anyone at all that the first black Super Soldier spent thirty years being experimented on in jail or is it fine with you that it’s all been hushed up, what the fucking fuck man‘ riot act or anything like that. the episode ends on ‘let’s go talk to Zemo’.

and that’s a wrap without a conclusion because the only one i have is yesterday’s: it’s a show that makes a perfunctory attempt at pretending it’s not propaganda, but only so it can win the participation award.

Chicago by way of San Francisco.

After a particularly busy Saint Patrick’s Day and mandatory day of vegetative rest, I packed my bags and headed off to start round 3 of Open Days for work. The first time I participated in these events was March 2016. I was a Senior at American and it was essentially a five day, unpaid interview over 3 states which consumed all my Spring Break that year. In 2016 I volunteered at the Spring Recruitment events for the college in Washington D.C., New York and Boston. In 2017 I staffed the events in Boston, New York, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. In 2018 I staffed the events in San Francisco, Chicago and Philadelphia. Open Day’s week is generally “Holy Week” for me.

Monday March 19th I got to Union Station, where I took the train to BWI airport station and took the shuttle to my Virgin Atlantic evening flight. Six hours and a slew of Ryan Gosling movies later (thanks inflight entertainment system) I arrived to San Francisco. Because it was special enough to get to go to California for work, I took a day extra before work began to meet up with my mom (who had been traveling in New Mexico). On Tuesday March 20th she drove us to Monetary, California -- about two hours away -- and we had a delightful jaunt around Cannery Row.

We wandered in the rain amongst sock shops, souvenir stores and even one fairly sketchy looking old-timey photo place where after spontaneously deciding to get a novelty photo of ourselves, the girl working the desk took us back to a row of changing rooms and said “Okay, tube tops are there and shorts are in that bucket.” Needless to say we did not end up pursuing that activity.

I do love a good novelty [religious] tee, though.

We had lunch at Bubba Gumps and watched for animals in the Bay, then after a quick jewelry shop stop to commemorate our date with a silver otter necklace (”Aolysius”), mom drove us off to “17 Mile Drive” thru Pebble beach. In the pouring rain.

Here is the lovely “Bird Rock”, so named because birds like to hang out there.

Day one ended with a jaunt thru a town called “Carmel” and chai lattes to stave off hypothermia from the fact my suade boots are not, though I continue to wear them in the rain, waterproof. It was two hours back to San Francisco from Monterey, so to break things up we stopped for dinner in Palo Alto, near Stanford, and plotted our next day in San Francisco City.

After a filling Starbucks breakfast and forty minutes of traffic, on Wednesday March 21st, we set off to explore San Fransisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf.

We spent quite a bit watching the sea lions on Pier 39 bark and wrestle, before taking a stroll down the boardwalk and again ending up in Bubba Gumps for lunch (again).

On our walk to Ghirardelli’s, stopped to take in some classic (cloudy) shots like the Golden Gate!

On our walk I also found arguably my favorite fountain ever. Introducing, “Merbaby”.

Did you know that when you to Ghirardelli’s they give you a free sample? Did you know when you go to three different stores they give you three different samples? I do now.

It worked on mom though because she ended up buying a tin of chocolate bunnies filled with caramel that I’m fairly certain will not make it back to Pennsylvania per her snacking.

It’s a tradition of mine when I visit a city to try and find at least one cool bookstore; I was recommended to find “City Lights” and enjoyed a while perusing the shelves there.

Tired and tourist-ed out, we headed back to the hotel to recharge phones and rest the legs before Mom started googling dinner options nearby and found the mythical, majestic soup dumplings. I love soup dumplings. They are arguably one of my top 3 favorite food groups. You can imagine I was elated.

Thursday morning, March 22nd, Mom headed off to the airport and I went to connect with work colleagues before our evening event. One short 40 minute Uber ride later and I was once again in San Francisco city as the rain poured. Not ten minutes later, however, the clouds cleared and blue skies -- yes, BLUE SKIES -- appeared.

Had just enough time to pop into Buena Vista -- the first U.S. home of the Irish Coffee -- and for very affordable $10.50. Irish Coffee’s are an acquired taste for certain; I don’t think I’ll be having another for a while but it was cool to sit at the long counter with the bartenders in white blazers and watch them craft this. I mean it was 10:00am so maybe next time I won’t start drinking Whiskey before noon, also. But experience!

After my morning cocktail, I stuck my head into the Cartoon Museum where I got to see the original drawings for the John Lewis Graphic Novel, “March”. Two years ago Sam and I volunteered at the Washington D.C. National Book Festival and worked the Graphic Novel pavilion, where Congressman John Lewis was talking about “March”. Seemed very timely.

Headed back to the hotel for an hours rest before getting dressed -- read, make up -- and heading over the High School for to wrap up the fun touristing and get started on the work. This is what will happen after a four hour event when someone on the team encourages “creativity” in posing.

It turns out that Mom’s flight was cancelled so I got a roomie for another evening. We ordered pizza to bed and watched Netflix before sleep. The next morning, Friday March 23rd, I was up bright and early for the team flight to Chicago.

After arriving in Chicago we took the train from the airport to the hotel and had about forty minutes before an event scheduled that evening. A quick shower and slathering on of makeup and out the door I went. We ended up having dinner (well, I had a coke of grilled brussell sprouts) at a bar called “The Gage” next to the University Club of Chicago. Bit strange to have drinks with a Professor who four years ago was signing my forms for Study Abroad class approval, but so is life.

Then it was off to bed and up early the next morning for a Chicago day. It was so bitterly cold that Saturday, March 24th, that I even contemplated buying a sweatshirt to layer. I own one sweatshirt; I am not a sweatshirt gal. But I was that cold.

If my case hadn’t been so packed already I would have but thankfully after getting some errands done for most of the day I decided to seek shelter at a coffee shop called “The Goddess”. I had a delicious sheep truffle, chai latte and read some of the novel I picked up in California.

By midday the nerves about my presentation on Sunday hit -- I headed back to the hotel, peeled off my layers and turned on the Kardashian’s while I started typing up the notes for my slides the next day.

Coerced from my hotel room with the promise of pizza, I joined half the team on an expedition to find deep dish. I do like Chicago, more than Boston or New York. And it’s not like D.C. in any way so I can separate and love them for different reasons without a conflict of interest.

And finally, after three trips to Chicago, got my picture with The Bean. It was much more fun to do that part with people, rather than being alone. I’m not being on needing to be in a group when traveling; in fact, I sometimes prefer to set my own path and wander. But with a belly full of warm deep dish I gave in to the adventure.

Sunday March 25th it was up early and out the door to the high school for the last Open Day event before Philadelphia the middle of the next week. The Irish headed back to Dublin that evening, with myself and Isabella dividing between Minnesota and D.C. I was thankful I made it through my presentation in one piece.

My bag, however, did not make it back to D.C. with me. That’s another saga for another time, but as a week straight of travel wound down I spent two hours with a man named Melvin at DCA trying to solve the mystery, on a Sunday night, of how my name got stuck to the bag of a Mr. Chen who ended up in OH and my case was no where to be seen.

Life, my friends, is never dull. And if you think it is, you’re not doing it right.
