Lagos: 18 Athletes for 3rd qualifier of 2nd Scrabble Mindgames Premier Championships
Tumblr media
No fewer than 18 athletes are expected to compete in the 3rd qualifier of the 2nd Scrabble Mindgames Premier Championships (MPC) scheduled to hold in August in Lagos.     Lukeman Owolabi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mindgames Incorporated (MGI), organisers of the competition made the disclosure on Wednesday in Lagos.     Owolabi said the 1st qualifier was held in May in Port Harcourt and the 2nd in June in Enugu, while the 3rd would take place in Lagos in August.     He said that 18 players had emerged so far in the open category, while five players were contending for the best intermediate player slot having attended two qualifiers so far. He noted that Helen Orji was the best female among those who had qualified, while Charles Princewill had attended the two qualifiers and would qualify automatically if he attends the rest of the MPC qualifiers.     Owolabi warned that any of the players that qualified for the competition but refused to show up at the grand finale would forfeit his or her spot. He said that such a player’s spot would be allocated to the next player in the line. “Only clubs that partner with MGI and foreign players are eligible for wildcards at the grand finale holding from Nov. 22 to Nov. 24 at the Lagos country club, Ikeja. “Under no circumstances will any player outside the group mentioned above be considered for wildcards,’’ Owolabi said. He said that MGI believed that it would only be fair that only the players who had travelled round the country would claim their spots at the MPC final competition. Read the full article

ABOUT JUDY MURRAY
Judy Murray was born on 8 September 1959 in Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire, the daughter of Eileen Shirley and Roy Erskine, an optician and former footballer who had played for Stirling Albion in the 1950s.
She says that growing up, there were no indoor tennis courts in Scotland, so she played tennis in the summer and badminton in the winter. She won 64 titles in Scotland during her junior and senior career, and decided to have a go at the professional tour in around 1976.
Murray gave up the idea of competing professionally as she was homesick and was robbed in Barcelona. However, she had played against players such as Debbie Jevans and Mariana Simionescu. Murray claims that her playing style did not have any big shots but she was quick around the court and read the game well.
She decided to go to the University of Edinburgh to study French and German, before dropping German in favor of business studies. In 1981, she graduated from the University of Edinburgh, and represented Great Britain at the World Student Games.
She began coaching and was the initial coach for both her sons before handing over the reins as their professional careers bloomed. In the early 1980s, Murray lived in the West End of Glasgow and was a member of Broomhill Lawn Tennis and Squash club, winning the Club Championships three times and playing for its teams (under her maiden name). She remains a visitor to the club.
Aside from her own sons, she has coached many players at regional and national level under the auspices of the British tennis governing body, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
In December 2011 she was elected to lead the British Fed Cup team as their captain. She says she took the job in part to raise the profile of female coaches and alleviate some of the sexism that she says remains in the sport. She resigned as Great Britain's Fed Cup Captain in March 2016.
Murray was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to tennis, women in sport, and charity.
Murray was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Edinburgh on 8 October 2013. On 22 November 2013 Murray received an honorary doctorate from the University of Stirling. She received three honorary degrees in 2016, one from the University of Aberdeen another from the University of Glasgow, and a third from Abertay University for her "outstanding contribution to British sport."
Judy has developed several tennis initiatives including Miss-Hits, a starter programme for girls age 5 to 8, Tennis on the Road, which takes tennis into remote and deprived parts of Scotland, and, most recently, She Rallies, a programme with the LTA, to encourage more women and girls into tennis across the UK.
JUDY MURRAY FOUNDATION
MF takes tennis into rural and disadvantaged areas of Scotland. She builds workforces within local communities to make tennis fun and ‘dobale’. Tennis for Everyone.

Revellers welcomed 2019 with fireworks displays and festivities as a celebratory wave swept westward across the globe from Asia to Europe and Africa. The Americas will be the last to celebrate the conclusion of a tumultuous year, as they are five hours behind.Monday’s celebrations kicked off with Sydney hosting its biggest-ever pyrotechnics display and lighting up its harbour-front skyline for a full 12 minutes.More than 1.5 million spectators gathered to enjoy the spectacle that also featured a ceremony to celebrate Australia’s indigenous culture. In Hong Kong, hundreds of thousands of party-goers packed the streets on either side of Victoria Harbour for a spectacular 10-minute show that burnt through $1.8 million worth of fireworks. In the Indonesian capital Jakarta, more than 500 couples tied the knot in a free, mass wedding organised by the government to mark the arrival of a new year.Fireworks shows, however, were cancelled out of respect for victims of a December 22 tsunami that killed more than 400 people. In Japan, locals flocked to temples to ring in 2019, as US boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather came out of retirement to beat Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in a multi-million-dollar “exhibition” bout outside Tokyo. In Dubai, fireworks lit up the sky over the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, to the delight of onlookers, while nearby Ras al-Khaima sought to enter the Guinness Book of Records with the world’s longest fireworks show.Russia saw in the new year progressively over several time zones starting in the far east, with concerts and light shows planned for Moscow city parks, and more than 1,000 ice rinks opened for merrymakers. But a tower block gas explosion that killed at least four people and left dozens missing cast a shadow over New Year’s celebrations. In his New Year’s address to the nation, President Vladimir Putin urged people to work together to “increase well-being and quality of life so that all citizens of Russia… feel changes for the better in the coming year.”In Paris, fireworks and a light show with the theme “fraternity” were scheduled for the Champs-Elysees despite persistent “yellow vest” anti-government protests.French President Emmanuel Macron, in a televised address, acknowledged the French government “can do better” by citizens complaining of shrinking spending power. In Berlin, music lovers partied at a concert at the Brandenburg Gate, while Britain’s capital London opted to usher in the new year by celebrating its relationship with Europe, despite Britain’s impending departure from the European Union.London’s fireworks display would seek to show Europe that the British capital would remain “open-minded” and “outward-looking” post-Brexit, said the city’s mayor Sadiq Khan.In Portugal, dozens of people, some in costume, will brave the winter for a traditional New Year’s ocean dip near Lisbon, while in the Democratic Republic of Congo, election officials will be counting votes after a presidential election Sunday. In Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari used his New Year’s address to promise a free and fair election in 2019 and there were fireworks in many cities such as Lagos and Abuja and crossover services in many churches. In Ivory Coast leader Alassane Ouattara vowed the creation of a new, independent, electoral commission for polls planned for 2020.When the celebrations reach the Americas, Rio de Janeiro’s famous hilltop Christ the Redeemer statue will be brought to 3D life with special light projections before fireworks illuminate the city’s Copacabana beach where around two million people are expected to party till dawn.As the world celebrates, many are wondering whether the turmoil witnessed in 2018 will spill over into the next. The political wrangling in Westminster over Brexit was one of the key stories of this year, with a resolution yet to be reached ahead of Britain’s scheduled March 29 departure.US President Donald Trump dominated headlines in 2018, ramping up a trade war with China, quitting the Iran nuclear deal, moved the US embassy to Jerusalem, and meeting his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong Un.North Korea’s commitment to denuclearisation will remain a major political and security issue into next year, as will Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s reassertion of control after Trump’s shock announcement of a US troop withdrawal from the country. The war in Yemen, which has killed about 10,000 people since 2014 and some 20 million at risk of starvation, could take a crucial turn in 2019 after a ceasefire went into effect in mid-December.Numerous countries go to the polls in the coming year, including India, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Nigeria, South Africa, Argentina, and Australia.Major sporting events on the calendar include the Rugby World Cup in Japan, the cricket one-day international World Cup in England, and the athletics World Championships in Qatar.

Politicians feast on sports to get richer, boost own CVs’
As far back as 1992, Monday Emoghawve (MON) was among foremost paralympians who won gold at Barcelona Paralympic Games. After opening the floodgate of medals for Nigeria then, the country’s Paralympic Athletes have been winning many medals at every other Paralympic event. Emoghawve who is contesting to become President of Para-Swimming federation ahead of February 15, 2018 election even as the President of Nigeria Paralympics Committee (NPC), told IKENNA OKONKWO AND PAUL OKAH of his intention and milestone since 1990 when he teamed up with other Physicallly-challenged Persons in Sports.
As an Athlete When I started as an athlete, I, alongside others were flown out of the country in 1990 to England. I was into athletics at that time but I didn’t impress in my performance because of lack of equipment and I was looking around to see other sports I could do. I eventually settled for power lifting and collected the rule book on it.
There was no direction on the athletics we were doing then: no rule book, no coach. I was able to beg Black Moses who was coaching able-bodied athletes and he converted to become para-athletics coach.
Today, power lifting sports have been the engine room of para sports because we win a lot of medals at international competitions. When the need arose for us to establish Paralympics Committee of Nigeria, the authority of International Paralympics Council, the umbrella body that oversees all para-sports with headquarters in Germany, said that the three sports including para-lifting, table tennis and athletics we were doing, were not enough.
So, in 2010/2011, the sport ministry, Para-lifting Committee of Nigeria, the umbrella that overseas all para-sports inaugurated five sports federations to join the three federations I mentioned earlier.
Para-Swimming voyage I became the president of the apex para-sport organization in Nigeria. I was also mandated to take charge of para-swimming federation because nobody could handle it or identify with the federation when it was inaugurated and there was no athlete or official on ground.
So I took it upon myself to look for athletes for the swimming federation. To this end, I travelled to Bayelsa, Ondo and other Riverine states in Nigeria in order to recruit athletes and we were successful.
Four months after the inauguration, we were prepared by the sports ministry for an international competition then known as All African Games in Maputu, Mozambique and we won bronze at the very first attempt. Today, the swimmers have developed very well and can challenge athletes anywhere in the world.
My travails of a physically-challenged athlete
Actually, as an athlete, it has not been easy. My friends and I were in the Spinal-cord Injury Association of Nigeria rehabilitation centre. We didn’t have donors. People and foreigners were visiting the centre and shared video tapes with us and from them we knew that disabled people could take part in sports and some of my colleagues who were lucky enough to be flown abroad for treatment, returned to intimate us on how disabled people were taking part in sports abroad.
The idea was transformed into physical activities and we undertook different kinds of sports even without direction. We told the Ministry of Social Development about our sports intents and were able to attend a championship in 1990 and were better exposed to pressurize the federal government to move us from the rehab centre to the sports ministry because our sports was no longer recreational.
The National Sports Commission sponsored our trips abroad where we were able to discover other sports and events such as; wheel-chair basketball, amputee football, tennis and para-swimming. We were hitherto into only table-tennis, para-athletics, para-lifting but we later introduced five more sports.
When I was in athletics, I won gold throughout in all the competitions I was involved in such as All African Games, National, Regional, Continental, World Championships. I also won three gold medals in Olympics. I won first medal para-lifting in Barcelona, Spain 1992 when the organisers of the paralympics were given me awards for the best power-lifter of the year, which was the year I also represented the country as Athlete Representative. My colleague, late Ajibola Adeoye and I reprentated Nigeria.
He won two gold and one silver medal, while I won one gold. In Atlanta ’96, we repeated the same feat. I repeated it in Sidney 2000. So I won back-back gold medals every four years for myself and country. When I retired from active participation, I went into para-sports administration.
Para-Sports hurdles and leadership charisma
It has not been easy. As an athlete, before you will even make it to become a national athlete, you must have spent four years, just like in the University. With God on your side, you can either make it or continue struggling.
One of the reasons why we pressurized the federal government to move us to the sports ministry is because of the facilities there. They provide facilities for our training and travelling logistics and recommend us to the presidency for awards. So they have done so well. The sports ministry created a good atmosphere and employed many people with disabilities into the sports council.
Ahead of para-sports election The election is coming up next week and I’ve been moving and rallying support for zonal election before the general poll. The ministry made it mandatory for a disabled person to emerge from the zone. So I am going to move to my zonal headquarters in Jos, North Central and from there, move to the national federation.
So I am in contact with people as the man that started the paralympic sports. I need to win the election for a second tenure because I started it out of nothing. Those coming after me will learn from me and manage the federation very well. I have my techniques in managing the sports and people. Human management is important.
Stubborn athletes need special techniques to get the best out of them. They are many things involved. For instance, when you are given limited money to travel out, you can drop in order for the team to travel. We need sponsors too because we don’t leave everything to the government. We need passionate people who have the zeal for paralympic sports and not just to make it an appendage to one’s CV.
The sports minister has been able to use paralympic sports to elevate the status of people living with disabilities. I am a living example of someone who has surmounted obstacles to become a sport administrator and Olympic champion.
Concerns over Electoral guidelines The first election which was for every other able-body federation that was done, we were exempted. It was unusual. The timeline given to able-body athletes was longer than that of the physically challenged. The election guideline came out in the middle of January and we are expected to conduct zonal elections on the 12th of February. Then, we go into federation election on the 15th. For physically-challenged people, we are not given enough time especially as it involves visiting all the states in Nigeria to campaign. We don’t have enough time to advertise our manifestoes to the electorates to enable them select credible candidates for vacant posts.
Facilities and the future of paralympic sports
When you talk of facilities in sporting activities, we do have obsolete equipment. We made it known to the sports ministry and they procure good ones for us. Once you use equipment for a competition like Olympics, it is subject to modification before the next edition.
Because of paucity of funds, we don’t change the facilities like it’s obtainable in advanced countries. The good thing is that Nigerians excel in competitions no matter the challenges posed by obsolete equipment.
We are blessed and talented and defeat even people with modern facilities. We will not relent. We have good facilities in wheelchair tennis but we need sponsors and partners in paralympic sports in order to develop and perform better. These disabled persons should be encouraged in order to keep their minds occupied.
Promoting Para-soccer I was among the committee that formed para-soccer in University of Lagos, Akoka campus, when one of the lecturers, late Andrew Ajudua was the chairman and served as the president of our federation then.
Cosmos Okolie formed the committee and was the chairman then when we consulted Dr Andrew Ajudua and we had the vision of developing the sports very fast but there was no money then to register and push the organization as we planned. When I came as the president of Paralympics, I called the president of para-soccer to tell me how far he’s gone and he told me he has covered four West African countries. I requested for him to raise a letter for me so that I can send it to International Paralympics Committee (IPC) in Germany to open a sports federation.
Again, I raised the issue to IPC to establish a body to regulate para-soccer all over the world and I was told that it is an unknown indigenous sport and that I should liaise with Nigeria’s sports ministry to spread the sport across the world and then get back to them because they can’t open a para-soccer federation without its being known in Africa and the world. Money is our greatest problem.

Trump finds golf isn't the way to Congress' heart

Trump finds golf isn't the way to Congress' heart
One weekend in early June, President Donald Trump tested out his golf course diplomacy with Sen. Bob Corker, making the Tennessee Republican one of his first congressional partners at his Northern Virginia country club.
The pair shared a cart and partnered up in a match that included former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning. They discussed both politics and policy – “a little of it all,” Corker recalled in an interview earlier this week – and there wasn’t much in the way of the trash talking that Trump is known for on the green.
Story Continued Below
“Honestly, it was enjoyable,” Corker told POLITICO. “You learn a lot about him personally.”
But that springtime round hasn’t stopped Corker from undercutting Trump since then, firing off a series of blistering attacks in media interviews and Twitter against a president who he characterized as in need of “adult daycare.”
Trump also didn’t have much luck with another recent golfing partner: Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul. Just days after the former 2016 GOP presidential primary rivals played at the president’s members-only Virginia golf course, Paul sided against Trump on a critical budget resolution vote that the president hopes can pave the way for a wider measure cutting taxes.

The president found some early success using golf to his advantage in office, inviting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to play with him at two of his South Florida courses in February to cement their personal relationship – a favor Abe is planning to repay by hosting a golf game when Trump visits Tokyo next weekend. But it has worked less well in Washington, where the president hasn’t been able to leverage his nearby golf club into close relationships on Capitol Hill.
Trump’s other recent golfing partner has been South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, who said in an interview that his two rounds with the president over back-to-back October weekends have helped pave the way for him to be critical of the White House in a way that can ultimately advance his agenda.
“I said I want to beat you on the golf course,” Graham said in an interview. “But the best thing I can do for you is tell you what I think and be respectful about it. Here’s the one thing about playing golf, and you’re getting to know someone, you’re far less likely to take gratuitous shots because you’ve spent time with them.”
Graham hasn’t missed a beat in playing this role. He recently praised Trump for assembling a strong national security team that’s “good for the Republican party.” And after a recent visit to South Carolina together aboard Air Force One, Graham jumped at the president’s offer of a helicopter ride back to the White House.
But Graham remains a critic on one of the biggest White House sore spots: the Russia investigations. The senator a few weeks before his first golf outing with Trump issued a scathing warning to the president over the notion of firing special counsel Robert Mueller, saying it “could be the beginning of the end” of his administration. Last weekend on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Graham said Trump continues to have “a blind spot on Russia I still can’t figure out.”
Missouri GOP Sen. Roy Blunt – a member of GOP leadership who cautioned that he’s “not in the club championship ranks” of golfing ability – said it wasn’t clear whether the president’s recent overtures on the golf course have been productive in building support for Republican policies.
“I don’t think it hurts,” Blunt said. “Anything that builds relationships is generally helpful, though I’d like to see…more specific votes that respond to the investment of time.”
Trump is likely at the tail end of his weekend golf trips this year to his Washington-area course. He leaves on Friday for a 12-day, five-nation Asia trip, and he won’t have many warm weekends left in 2017 by the time he returns to the capital.
Meantime, the president’s private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach beckons. It will open again for the season around Halloween, and Trump has his pick of three South Florida golf courses with his name on them, including one that’s a short motorcade ride from his beach home.
Trump’s bid to connect with lawmakers through golf is limited in no small part by a lack of people who play at his level. Former House Speaker John Boehner was the last congressional leader known to seriously golf. But he retired two years ago, and the current ranks of House and Senate leadership are bare when it comes to the type of quality player Trump prefers. The field of good golfers among rank-and-file members is small, too.
“I would not call it widespread at all,” said Rep. John Yarmuth, a Kentucky Democrat who is both a member and property owner at the president’s semi-private golf club in Ireland.
By all accounts, Trump is a top-notch player. Golf Digest in January ranked him No. 1, ahead of John F. Kennedy, Dwight Eisenhower and Gerald Ford among the 16 most recent presidents who played the game. But his skills – and desire to keep a round moving – also can work against him when it comes to finding playing companions from the political ranks.
“It’s almost that he’s too good,” said Mike Sommers, a former Boehner chief of staff. “You can’t see him driving through the rough helping someone find their ball.”
Chris Ruddy, a Trump friend and Mar-a-Lago member, said Trump only likes golfing with people around his same skill level. “He doesn’t enjoy playing with real amateurs. He likes to move around quick. Someone who isn’t great is slower,” said Ruddy, the CEO of the conservative website Newsmax.
Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan, a conservative Freedom Caucus founder, said he plays golf on some weekends back home with his brother-in-law. But he said he’d fall into the category of amateur golfer who would suggest that Trump – should he ever offer an invitation – try looking elsewhere.
“He wouldn’t enjoy playing with me because I’m nowhere near that handicap level,” Jordan said. “If the president asks you to do something you’d consider that. But I’d also tell him, ‘Mr. President, I’m not very good. You might want to play with someone else.’”
Another obstacle for Trump to forge golfing connections in Washington: his schedule. Playing as often as he does on Saturdays and Sundays doesn’t match up well with members of Congress who make it a point to go back to their states and districts on the weekends.
Sen. David Perdue, a Georgia Republican ranked by Golf Digest last year as the best golfer among members of Congress, said he had just discussed playing 18 holes with Trump when the president visited the Capitol for a GOP luncheon earlier this week.
“I’ve been invited for sure,” Perdue said. But Perdue said that finding a date in recent weeks has been challenging because of his commitments back in Georgia.
While Perdue said he expected to talk political shop when he does finally play golf with Trump, he also expected the round to be heavy on the social side.
“I’m not sure he’s using it as a tool,” Perdue said. “It’s a personal thing to do. This man has friends and uses it that way. He uses it to get relaxation. He uses it to think.”
Ruddy said he also didn’t see Trump as trying to use golf to win allies or policy converts. “The idea that somehow you get an inside track just because you play golf is just a nonstarter,” he said. “Trump uses it as a good way to understand people and hear them out.”
Trump repeatedly disparaged President Barack Obama for golfing as much as he did during eight years in office. But Trump has ended up playing even more golf than his Democratic predecessor.
In his first 40 weeks in office in 2009, Obama played 23 rounds of golf. Trump, during that same period of time this year, has played at least 32 rounds that have been confirmed by either the White House, social media reports or journalists traveling with the president. There have also been another 28 times where Trump was known to be at one of his country clubs and seen as likely playing golf, according to data compiled by the website Trump Golf Count.
Trump and Obama have also followed similar paths in eschewing fellow politicians as their playing partners. Obama often filled out his golfing foursome with longtime staffers and close friends. In fact, just 5 of the 333 rounds that the Democratic president played over his two terms were with members of Congress, according to a tally kept by CBS News reporter Mark Knoller. Obama only played golf three times with foreign leaders.
For Trump, the playing partners he’s had who have been publicly named have included longtime friends like New York real estate executive Richard Levine and professional athletes, including Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins and PGA professional Rory McIlroy.
Golf during Trump’s life prior to politics – and Washington — was all about making money. He frequented the links with his fellow golf-obsessed Manhattan billionaires and CEOs. His name is also attached to 12 courses in the U.S., including the iconic “Blue Monster” Doral in Miami, and five more abroad in Dubai, Ireland and Scotland.
Partisanship also wasn’t a factor in who Trump teed off with. In 2012, for example, former President Bill Clinton in a CNN interview – conducted by guest host Harvey Weinstein, standing in for Piers Morgan – volunteered this about Trump: “I love playing golf with him.”
But 2012 is not 2016. And the idea of hitting the links with the president is hardly seen as a smart career move for a Trump critic – especially in the smart phone era where club members and guests frequently post video and pictures of Trump whenever he’s at one of his courses.
“I’m not sure there’s a lot of Democrats who’d want to go out and spend four hours with him,” said Yarmuth, the ranking member of the House Budget Committee and a serious golfer who plays at about the same level as the president.
Asked if he’d entertain playing golf with Trump, Yarmuth hedged. He waited nearly six years before finally getting out on a course with Obama — at Joint Base Andrews in suburban Washington in 2015.
“That’d be a very tough call for me,” Yarmuth said. “I say it because I so cherish my one presidential golf experience. I don’t want to necessarily tarnish it. I’d like to keep it as my only presidential golf memory because it was so good.”

IMPORTANCE OF TABLE TENNIS FLAG BEARERS IN OLYMPICS
Olympic Games are international sports where thousands of athletes from different countries around the world participate in variety of competitions. The categories are Summer and Winter Olympics. Olympics is conducted every four years with Summer and Winter Olympics held two years apart. They have badminton, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis and many more.
A “flag bearer” is selected in each competition to represent their country. Flag bearers are the ones who are honored to carry their national flags and march the stadium for the opening ceremony.
“One of the proudest moment for any Olympian is to be a flag bearer for their country”.
Let us look into famous Table Tennis athletes who were given this opportunity to be a flag bearer at Rio Summer Olympics 2016.
At the Rio Summer Olympics 2016, few of the table tennis athletes were lucky to chosen as a flag bearer and here is a list of them.
Funke Oshanaike – born in Lagos, Nigeria. She has been passionate towards this sport since her childhood and used to amaze everyone whenever she used to play. In Rio 2016, preliminary round she defeated Mariana Sahakian of Lebanon. Also she has won medal at women’s table tennis championship. She was the flag bearer for Nigeria.
Ian Lariba – born in Filipina. At the age of 9, her parents told her to learn something new and she chose “badminton”. Later she realized that badminton is not the right choice for her. So she decided to take up table tennis. One day coach of Philippine national table tennis observed her skills in table tennis while she was playing at Paralong Pambansa. Just after a year of her selection she started participating in national and international table tennis championships at a very young age. Not only was she just flag bearer for Philippines but also the “first” player to even represent Philippines in Olympics.
Liu Jia – she is a famous Chinese table tennis player who now represents Austria. She is a professional player in a club Shian Nuntan. Even though she was invited by Japan, she flew to Austria and started playing for their team. Soon after she arrived, she became an Austrian citizen and played for Austrian table tennis team. She represented as a flag bearer for Austria.
Yoshua Shing – born in Port Vila. He is a Vanuatan table tennis player. ITTF had initiated a program called With the Future in Mind Road to Rio. Surprisingly, Yoshua was one of the 12 potential players selected in this program by ITTF to represent Vanuatan. He is the first male table tennis player from Vanuatan to complete Olympics in 2012 London. He beacame the flag bearer for Vanuatan situated in South Pacific Ocean.
Timo Boll – born in German is a famous German table tennis athlete. He is the only player who is chosen through votes by fans and athletes on who should carry the flag. He got coaching by his father at a very young age. One day a coach named Helmut Hampel saw his talent and entered him to a club at the age of 8. From then on he never lost any match and presently his ranking is number second in German Table Tennis League. He earned to become a flag bearer for German through his fans and athletes of Germany.
