I don’t know if you write smut and this is my first time ever requesting it so I’m a bit shy about it but if you do could you maybe write a sequel to “A Chance Encounter” where Lars gets the ‘reward’ they were talking about lol.
Don't be shy about it. Smut is fun! I hope you enjoy what I wrote.
The walk home felt as if it went on for about a thousand years. You were so aware of his hands on you, brushing over the bare skin of your hand, resting on your hip, fingers tangling with yours. His gaze was heavy when they rested on you. Luxuriating in the feeling of his unhidden desire, you slowed your pace, wondering if the anticipation would only make the whole thing sweeter.
He took the keys from you, opening the door to your apartment. The door shut and the electricity that had been building reached a crescendo. He reached for you, bruised knuckles brushing the apple of your cheek. You didn’t even have to think twice, reaching up, fingers curling around the back of his neck.
“Are you sure you want your reward now, ghost boy?” you asked.
“I’ve earned it,” he replied, dipping his head towards you.
Clearly he was still heated, that first kiss full of fire. He wanted you, that much was clear. He pulled you closer, no build up, kissing you so deeply he stole your breath. Your fingers buried themselves in his hair, blond curls there for you to tug on.
He lifted you, your legs wrapping around his waist. His hands on your body was always addictive, making your thoughts spiral. You loved when you were above him, leaning down to kiss him, used to being so much shorter in comparison.
Anticipation had been curling in your stomach the entire way home, the fierce look in his eye making heat melt through your veins. From the moment he’d thrown that punch, defending your honour, you’d wanted to get your hands on him and reward him for all you were worth.
He stumbled towards the couch, lips trailing down your neck. The little noise you made in the back of your throat only seemed to spur him on. He growled into your skin as he sat. Your knees fell either side of his hips, straddling his lap, feeling him beginning to harden beneath you.
Grinding down, his throaty groan was music to your ears. His hands slid up, pushing past the hem of your shirt, seeking out warm skin with calloused fingertips. Your lips were on his, tongues brushing together, exploring his mouth deeper as your hips rocked against him. He dragged his hands up, along your spine, taking moment after moment to make you shiver.
Your fingers tugged on his hair. Teeth nipped at your lower lip. Kissing Lars was one of the joys of your life. He always did it with enthusiasm and a thoroughness that came from his need to be perfect. Where he had been unsure at the beginning of your relationship, his confidence had grown when it came to making you melt.
Sliding your hands down, you were slow as you unbuttoned his shirt, tie loosened and flung to the side. Chasing each newly exposed bit of skin with your lips, he lent back, letting you map his skin with your lips. Tongue darting out, you tasted his skin, the salt and the warmth addictive. His fingers were tracing patterns on the skin of your back and his eyes were at half mast.
You pushed the shirt from his shoulders, his skin soft against your palms. Touching him felt like a privilege. You lent forward again, teeth closing around his earlobe, tugging on it. He groaned, soft in your ear, hands pressing into your spine to bring you closer. Your lips trailed down his neck again, finding where his pulse pounded against your kisses.
“Fuck, love,” tumbled from his lips.
You could feel his length pressing against you. You rocked against it, chasing friction for the throbbing between your legs. Pleasure was pooling and you wanted him in every way possible. But tonight wasn’t about you. It was his reward, not yours.
One large hand cupped your cheek, pulling you back into a kiss. Your hands were on his skin and you were rocking against him, wanting to feel all of him beneath you. Sucking your lower lip into his mouth, you moaned. His hips pressed up, finding your heat.
His fingers were fast as they tugged your shirt over your head, hands cupping your breasts. Your head fell back as played with your tits, fingers finding hardening nipples through your bra. He lent forward, tugging one cup down, lips closing over the hardened peak. The man had a smart mouth, his skill with it not kept purely to wicked words.
“Want this off,” he mumbled against your skin.
Hands reached around unhooking, giving him unfettered access to your breasts. His mouth was hot against you, sucking as one hand played with the other nipple. You were arching into him, offering yourself to him, wanting him to consume you. Your fingers were buried in his hair, urging him on as you moaned his name.
“Want you so fucking much,” he groaned.
He kissed across your chest, giving attention to the other nipple. Your hips were rocking again, grinding down on the hard length beneath you. He was moaning into your skin. You looked down, catching blue eyes already looking up at you. They were molten, simmering with heat, smouldering as he gave a harsh suck. The cocky bastard knew exactly what he was doing to you.
You loved it.
You dragged him back to you, kissing him, your tongue in his mouth and your moans muffled. His hands replaced his mouth, continuing to play with you, circling and squeezing and rolling your nipples. You wanted him closer.
You slipped off his lap, fingers reaching for his belt buckle. On knees, between his legs, you stroked his length through his trousers. His hips pressed up into your touch. Freeing him from his trousers, you took him in your hand, giving a slow stroke. Precum leaked from the tip.
The way he hissed your name as your thumb circled over the head was addictive. His fingers wound through your hair, half lid eyes watching you. You lent forward, tongue giving a small kitten lick to the tip, tasting the salt of him.
“Oh, fuck, love,” he groaned.
You looked up at him again, tongue dragging over your lower lip. You held his gaze for a moment, breathless anticipation hanging in the air. With deliberate movements, you licked him from root to tip. His hips jutted up towards you, a wordless plea for more.
Wrapping your lips around him, you were slow to take him in. His fingers tightened in your hair, your name falling from his lips like a prayer. Drawing back, tongue pressing against that spot under the head at drove him wild. His hips rose to meet you as you slid your lips down again, taking him as deeply as you could.
“Have I told you how perfect you are?” he asked, voice strained.
You hummed around him, watching the way his head fell back, fingers tightening in your hair as he guided you. Your cheeks hollowed, tongue teasing him. Worshipping him was the easiest thing in the world, and you could do it for hours on end if he let you. You were slow with him, taking your time, wanting him to feel every single moment of pleasure. It was his reward, after all. He should be able to enjoy all of it.
Touching him was one of the greatest pleasures in life. Warm skin beneath your palms, mouth working him, cupping and tugging and skimming fingertips until he was making those whining noises that were like a drug to you.
The fingers in your hair dragged you off him, pulling you up until you were back in his lap. Cheeks flushed and eyes dark, he kissed you until flames were consuming you and you were nothing but want. His hands ran down your spine, leaving your nerves lit up in their wake. His hands grasped your ass, pushing you against him until you hissed.
“This is your reward, ghost boy,” you said into his mouth.
“Don’t care,” he growled, “want you.”
You stood, long enough to strip your trousers from your legs, flinging them to one side. He shuffled his down his legs. Fingers dug into your hips as he pulled you closer again, right between his legs. You lent down, kissing him until your head turned dizzy.
“One moment.”
You stepped back, disappearing into the darkness of the bedroom. With the ghost of a memory, you picked your way across the room, rifling through the bedside drawer. Returning, you tossed the condom at him. He didn’t hesitate, tearing the packaging open. You took it from his hands, slow to roll it down his leaking erection, stroking over the hardened length until his hands had grabbed you, pulling you back onto his lap.
“Do you know how beautiful you are?” he asked as his lips trailed over your skin.
You huffed a soft chuckle, letting yourself arch into him, grinding unforgivingly against him, the hot throbbing between your legs driving you crazy. His hands kept stroking over your skin, touching you in every way you would allow and when he looked at you it was like he couldn’t believe you were there with him. That you were allowing him to have you. That somehow he’d gotten luckier than he ever could have believed he would be.
“Lars, please,” you begged, needing him inside you.
“Say it again,” he growled, pressing you more insistently against him.
“Please,” you whined.
He lifted you, lining himself up with your entrance. You pushed down, slow, taking him within you, an almost sob coming out with the relief of the feeling. You paused, adjusting to the feeling. His eyes caught yours, holding you there, lips kiss stung and eyes molten.
“You’re wonderful,” he praised, “you feel so good.”
In response you began to move, rising until he was barely in you before you lowered again. The soft groan that came from him was music to your ears. Doing it again, you lingered at the height of your movement. His fingers dug into your hips and pulled you down, his own hips rising to meet you.
“So good,” he groaned again.
You pace increased, watching the way his face changed. Pleasure rippled out and you felt the need to kiss him again. Biting down on the full lower lip that had been tempting you for so long, he gripped you harder.
“Can’t believe anyone would give this up,” he groaned, hands sliding around your body, cupping your breasts again. Thumbs flicking over hardened nipples before he began to roll them between thumb and forefinger.
“Lars,” you moaned, “fuck.”
Your head fell back, his name sweet on your tongue. He lent forward, sucking one into his mouth as you continued to bounce on his cock.
“Never going to let you go,” he mumbled into your skin, “mine. All mine.”
You dragged him back into a kiss, muffling your moans into his mouth. You could feel it, when he began to get close, the way his body began to tighten beneath you. One hand travelled down your body, dipping between your legs. His finger drew tight circles over your clit as he continued to pound into you. Reaching further, deeper in you, over and over he hit that spot within you only he had ever been able to find.
You weren’t in control of your body any more, moving on instinct. Chasing your pleasure, desperate to give him his, it was nothing but rutting against him.
He came, teeth sinking into your shoulder as he tried to muffle himself, going rigid beneath you. You made a high keening noise, continuing to move against him. His fingers were still moving over the bundle of nerves between your thighs even as he began to catch his breath.
His name was long and drawn out as your own pleasure crashed into you. Your internal walls were clamping down on him, keeping him within you. The way you kissed him was sloppy, tongue and teeth and mumbled praise.
You slumped against him, face coming to rest against his neck. His hand was stroking along your spine, the other arm curled around your waist, keeping you in place. You placed slow kisses along the skin in front of you, pressing closer as the chill of the air began to penetrate the cloud of pleasure you’d found yourself in.
“I’ve hurt you,” he said.
His thumb brushed over the imprint of his teeth on your shoulder. You looked down at it.
“It was kinda hot,” you said, “you’ve marked me. Everyone will know I’m yours.”
“And are you?” He looked up into your face, emotionally open, almost vulnerable, “mine, that is.”
“I’m completely yours,” you said, sitting up properly again.
Cupping both of his cheeks, you forced him to continue to look at you. His lips ticked up into a small smile, and you found yourself smiling back at him.
“Of course I’m yours, ghost boy,” you said.
“And I’m yours,” he said, softening before your eyes.
The way you kissed him this time was sweeter, softer, full of so much more emotion.
“So, did you enjoy your reward, ghost boy?” you asked when you drew away.
“I don’t know,” he said, “you might have to try again.”
You shoved his shoulder but you were laughing and his eyes were twinkling.
“Asshole,” you laughed.
You wondered if maybe he liked the name calling because the way he looked at you was with reverence. Like you were something wonderful he’d caught in the circle of his arms. It made you soften, knowing how safe you were with him, how he wasn’t going to hurt you like your asshole ex had.
“You know I always enjoy it with you,” he said, catching your chin.
When he kissed you, you melted against him, knowing this time was so different because he was so different. He was so much better.

Where I’ve been.
After clocking out Wednesday, I was banned from any work related activities for 96 hours. Apparently, discussing the spelling of Mini Pufts on Tumblr counted (thank you whoever snitched. I will find you.) as work related. That didn’t stop me from scrolling through the for you page through the app on my phone. Still don’t know if downloading it was a mistake or not…
I tried getting into the lab on Saturday. I spent most of Thursday catching up on sleep, Friday was for going to the shops and doing laundry. By the time Saturday came around I wanted to go back to work. Apparently Mr. Zeddemore locked me out. He’s done it before - the last time I was surviving off of caffeine, determination and stubbornness - I don’t know why I thought he wouldn’t do it again.
Now that my security badge is working again and I can access the building, I’m going to catch up on anything I’ve missed, then go through the blog's inbox. Hopefully, I haven’t missed any emergencies.

I'm convinced Lars isn't really sure how he got the job at the lab and at this point is too afraid to ask. My proof? Bro, trust me.

Ghoul School
Tumblr media
prompt: you, Lucky, Phoebe, Trevor, and Lars go to investigate a spirit infested school, but ends badly for you.
Ummm basically enemies to lovers?? idrk tbh LOL
warnings: idk scary stuff? cussing! sexual tension! um you smoke 1 cigarette and thats it. GORE!!!!!!!
a/n: I’ve been thinking of this since I saw the movie…
*THIS IS A SUPER LONG STORY!!!*
“A school? Are you serious, Lars?” You mutter, running a hand down your face and sighing.
“I wish. What’s your grudge against a school anyway?” Lars said, cocking an eyebrow at you as he turned to look at you.
“Well I don’t know, maybe it’s the fact that kids still go there. It makes me sick how they have to experience that while being in an environment where it’s supposed to be safe and welcoming.” You explain, tapping your fingers nervously on your desk. Behind you, Lars sighed,
“Well that’s why we’re going innit? So stop worrying about it so much.” You snapped your head when heard the door open. In trudged a slime covered Trevor, Lucky, and Phoebe.
“Lars, I need your help with something!” Lucky called. Lars stood and strode to her, his eyes lingered on you for a little longer than they should’ve. Trevor had a proton pack on his back, which was slightly smoking from the interior.
"Piece of shit only fizzed when we tried to turn it on, know a way to fix it?" Trevor asked, gazing up at Lars. Lars' face was stone cold, probably because he had to deal with the dumb shit Trevor stirred up.
"First off, it's not a piece of shit. Second off, did you even try to figure it out?" Lars scoffed, eyebrows drawn together in a scowl.
"Give it to me, I'll see what I can do." He sighed, obviously not wanting to deal with him anymore. Trevor basically shoved the proton pack into Lars’ arms, which didn't waiver when he received it. Hot. You thought. Lars trudged to his station and set the proton pack down. He removed the protective covering, and coughed when smoke blasted in his face. You snickered, which earned an unimpressed glare from him. Lucky appeared beside you, ready to talk about what else you've come up with her to test.
"What is it?" She asked, tinkering with the item on the desk.
"You know how there's buckshot for a shotgun? I've figured out how to compress protons into little pellets and create a buckshot-type stream." You explained, showing her how it would work on a sheet of paper. You heard Lars muttering about something, though you brushed it off. You handed Lucky a few pellets, which contained about 12 rounds of buckshot each. She eagerly shot off into the test room, excited to try it out. With nothing else to do, you shuffled behind Lars, peering over his shoulder to watch his hands work efficiently. Lars really didn't know you were there, truly he didn't. So when he turned around to go get something from his desk, he jumped back.
"Good Christ you scared the shit out of me!" Lars exclaimed, putting a hand on his chest and letting out a big sigh. He shoved his glasses back up his face and ran a hand through his hair.
"I'm sorry! I just wanted to watch you work..." You trailed off, staring at the ground in embarrassment.
"Well maybe next time maybe fucking keep to yourself." He snapped, brushing past you, his hand grazing yours. You just stood there, hands clenched and cheeks burning in embarrassment. Phoebe stood next to you, putting a hand on your arm and whispering,
"It's ok, really, he doesn't mean it."
You couldn't help the tear that slithered down your cheek. Blinking away the rest of the tears, you muttered an 'excuse me' and walked outside of the lab. Taking a left, you headed through the doors to the cool breeze outside. Stuffing your hand in you pocket, your hand found purchase on the cig case you had. Sliding one out of it and grabbing your lighter, you lit the cig up and shoved the lighter back into your left pocket. You sat against the wall and pulled your knees to your chest. Hearing the doors open, you see Trevor walk out. He spots you and slides down the wall, sitting next to you.
"It's not your fault. It really isn't." Trevor offered, watching you let out a sigh, smoke going with it. You laugh, dragging a hand down your face.
"Listen, don't ever fall in love, man. Shit sucks." You sighed, resting your head against the cool brick. Trevor started to say something but the rest of the three burst through the doors. Lars was wearing his red jacket, walking towards the car. Lucky was carrying yours in her arm, right on the heels of Lars. He spotted you and Trevor sitting down against the wall. Trevor hopped up, offering you a kind hand. You took it, cigarette still in hand.
"Put that shit out." Lars commanded, crossing his arms. You glared at him before taking a long drag and blowing the smoke out. You dropped the rest on the ground, twisting your foot against it which successfully put it out.
"Happy?" You huffed, throwing your arms out in surrender. He just stared at you before pushing past you to get to the car. 'Bitch' You mutter under your breath. God he’s insufferable. Following them, you hopped into the passage seat. Lucky handed you your red jacket, which you put on before you buckled up. You zipped it up all the way burying your face in the collar. Lars watched you from his peripheral, drumming his fingers on the wheel.
“Are gonna stare or drive the goddamn car?” You snapped, turning to gaze at him. His hand tightened on the wheel and started to drive.
To say that Lars was a good driver was a pretty big overstatement. You were even lucky you made it to the school alive, much less in once piece.
“You are never ever driving again, Lars.” You said, stumbling out of the car as a wave of nausea hits you.
“Stuff it.” He replied, pushing up his broken glasses. You turned your gaze to the school, which stood ominously in the distance. You shivered, which didn’t go unnoticed by Lars. He took a small step closer to you, his hand ghosting the small of your back. You jumped slightly at his feather touch, but relished it. Lars flicked on your switch, making your proton pack hum with the familiar ‘whirring’ sound. You walked to the front steps, pushing open the two massive double wooden doors. You were blasted by a cold air, which you stumbled back from.
“S-shit.” You muttered, hands shaking ever so slightly. You reached for your flashlight, but froze when you saw a shadow figure dart through the darkness.
“Lars.” You whispered, a lump forming in your throat. Lars was off busy helping the others get their packs on, which meant you were the only one at the front. You felt something tugging you forward. You stumbled back into the school following the tugging sensation to a room downstairs.
Lars looked up, about to ask you something, when he noticed you were gone.
“Where the bloody hell did Y/N go?” He asked, looking around. His question was answered when he heard your frantic screams coming from inside of the building. They all looked at each other, then bolted to the building.
The building was absolutely freezing. That you were certain of. The frigid temperature fucked a little with your head, at least that’s what you can conclude. You found that being able to see in the dark was not your forte, which caused you to fall down a flight of stairs.
“OH FUCKING SHIT—!” You screech, tumbling down the stairs. You landed with your head cracking against the cold floor. Groaning, you tried to lift your head, but you felt like you were spinning like a top. You eventually stood, swaying slightly after. You blinked a few times, holding your head in your hands. In the corner of your eye, you could see another shadow figure. It was tall, tall enough to reach the ceiling. It started to approach you, but you let out a scream, starting to run back up the stairs. You felt a push, then you tumbled back down the stairs, smashing your head into the pavement again. You landed on your knee, successfully snapping the bone in your shin. You let out another bloodcurdling scream, spitting out blood in the process.
You felt lightheaded as blood spilled from your shin and lips, dribbling down your chin and neck. You were in too much pain to cry as you crumpled to the floor again. You heard all three of them yelling your name, but you couldn’t yell back. Instead, you pulled yourself across the floor, leaving a long streak of blood as you went. With as much effort as you could muster, you pulled yourself to the steps. It took everything for you to scream,
“LARS!!!”
Footsteps could be heard, which sounded like heavy boots clomping towards you. You clawed at the steps, trying to grip anything that you could to pull yourself up. The blond man appeared in the doorway, shining a flashlight down the stairwell. Lars hair was tousled, eyes wide. You make out how he was panting, as well as a horrified look painted across his face.
“oh my god.” Was all he said. He rushed down the stairwell to get you. You couldn’t make out much of anything, you kept fading in and out of consciousness. His hands, his strong and elegant hands held your face as he tried to keep you awake. Your breaths became labored again as you felt extreme pain rippling through your limbs. You let out another scream, which was muffled by Lars chest as he picked you up and started to rush you outside. One of his hands found purchase in your hair, gently stroking it with his thumb as he ran to the car.
Lars felt like it took years to make it to the hospital. His red jacket was drenched in your blood, but he couldn’t care less about what he looked like as he rushed you into the ER. Immediately after, you were rushed into a room, where you would reside for God knows how long. Lars sat next to Lucky, his face grim. He didn’t care how long he had to wait to see you again, just as long as he could see you. Lars stayed there all night, into the morning to be able to see you. When they told him that he could see you, he ran to your room as fast as he could. There you laid, eyes closed, face peaceful. When you heard the footsteps, you opened your eyes and found the blond man standing in your doorway.
“Bloody hell, I thought I’d never see you again.” Lars breathed as he approached your right side. Your hand lay limp on the top of the bedsheet. He brought up a chair and sat, taking your hand and lacing his fingers with yours.
“I was so scared that you were going to die, I couldn’t bear to see it.” He further explained. You smiled weakly and croaked,
“Are you being nice right now? That’s so unlike you Lars.”
Before you said anything else, Lars pressed a kiss to your lips. It wasn’t your ideal first kiss with him, but you relished the feeling.
“I didn’t save you because I thought it was the good thing to do, I saved you because I love you.” Lars whispered, his nose brushing yours.
“God I love you too, Lars.” You whispered back.

OH MY GOD THE GHOSTBUSTERS FROZEN EMPIRE TRAILER DROPPED! IT LOOKS SO AMAZING!
Just some quick thoughts:
I want Callie to deck Dickless in the face. Make your daddy proud.
THEY'RE ALL BACK! MY SPENGLERS!
"Overruled." "Sustained. "... Thank you." I hope we see more of Gary bonding with Trevor in this film because just this little piece makes me smile.
Ray is in his element here.
LUCKY'S HERE!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait to meet Lars (and I really hope nothing bad happens to him)
LET MY RAY INFODUMP!
WINSTON! PETER! OH MY GOD!
JANINE! JANINE! JANINE!
"Melnitz in uniform!" We love it. She somehow looks so cute and so badass.
We're back in the library!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love our little Spenglerson moment, they're just so cute! (I'm still crossing my fingers for that baby)
Wait a minute...
FUCKING SLIMER! HE'S BACK!
Poor Trevor...
Anyway, I already have so many ideas for what I want to do when I get to this point in my Cathleen Lives AU. And funny thing, I was thinking about how I want to rewatch the series before this movie came out, and how we probably weren't getting the full trailer until the Super Bowl last night!

Ghost Boy (Lars Pinfield x f!Reader)
Tumblr media
Synopsis: You and Lars have a pretty contentious relationship. Until you don't
Words: 3.1k
Basically some fun enemies to lovers stuff
“What is this?”
You looked up from your laptop, fingers stilling on the keyboard. Dr Lars Pinfield, the bane of your existence and the most combative towards your work, was standing over you, holding up a phone. The screen was playing a video, a TikTok edit of him around the lab playing with one of those viral songs.
“A video,” you replied with a small shrug.
“Why would you post this to the internet?” he demanded.
“I’m the lab’s social media manager. What do you want from me? I’m giving the people what they want,” you replied, already tired of the conversation.
Lars had never understood the point of you in the lab. You weren’t a scientist like the rest of them, but you were a one person communication team, educated in science communication and marketing. You were there to ensure their reputation continued to soar and they continued to get funding for their experiments and tech. It was a pretty simple concept. You let the world know how cool they were, and they could continue doing what they wanted.
Lars hated it. He’d made it clear that he thought there was no point to you being there and that you only got in the way of the real science. He hadn’t realised how the modern day functioned in so many ways. You were the one writing the press releases. You rewrote the grant applications that got them money. You explained exactly what it was they were doing so people couldn’t complain about their secrecy.
In truth, it was your dream job. You got to hang out with all kinds of paranormal phenomena and then show the world how cool the lab was. Your friends had grown tired of you constantly talking about, and yet you couldn’t stop. So for one of the scientists, the one you probably admired the most in the entire lab, to be so dismissive of your work was crushing.
“No one wants this,” he snapped.
“Really?” You raised a single eyebrow at him, “videos and photos with you in them perform the best. People demand to know who you are. They want more of you. So I made a tongue in cheek video acknowledging that. It is our best performing video.”
You were never going to admit that you fully understood why people liked the video so much. You felt like you might be half of the views by yourself. You’d never admit it, but that nerd had something about him. If you didn’t know any better, you might think you had a crush on him. Which would just be stupid.
“You’re meant to be telling people about the science,” he said, “that’s why you’re here. Not for this shit.”
“That shit is the foot in the door that gets people in to listen to the science,” you replied, waiting for him to understand something he never would.
“No one is listening to any science with this,” he snapped.
“What’s wrong, Lars? Does getting attention from women scare you? Not used to it so you don’t know how to react?” You laughed.
He scowled at you before storming off, muttering under his breath, most likely insulting you. You rolled your eyes, going back to the press release you’d been working on before he’d interrupted you. Something crashed in the background and you rolled your eyes again.
The next time he found you, you were filming in front of the containment units, explaining how proton streams were used in the trapping of ghosts. His phone was thrust in front of your face and you sighed.
“What is this?” he demanded.
“Hello to you too, Lars. Is the science cooperating today?” You smiled sweetly up at him.
“You posted another one,” he snarled.
“The ladies were clamouring for it. I can’t disappoint our audience,” you replied, “now if you’ll excuse me I’m trying to talk about actual science, Lars. You probably don’t understand it. What I’m doing is very complicated.”
You gently patted him on the shoulder, giving him a faux commiserating look. His scowl darkened and you pouted up at him.
“Stop doing this,” he said.
“I hate to tell you this, ghost boy, but people like pretty people being the ones to tell them stuff. So I’ll keep posting your pretty face, and then they’ll listen to me be smart with the science. ‘Kay?”
“No, not “’kay”.” He used air quotes which made you glower up at him, “I’m the scientist. I’ll talk about the science.”
“Sure. How about you take over? I’m sure I’m not nearly as good as you at explaining proton streams without using all that technobabble you like so much,” you said, stepping back from him to let him take over the video.
“I don’t have time for this. I’m doing actual science,” he said.
“Whatever you say, ghost boy. But your fans will be disappointed,” you said with a small shrug.
He looked to the camera then back at you, adjusting his glasses on his nose. You offered him a winning smile and he shook his head.
“Fine. You’re probably getting the science wrong anyway,” he said.
You grinned to yourself as you skirted around him, standing behind the phone set up with the ring light. You gestured for him to start speaking but he looked at you blankly.
“I was explaining how the proton streams capture ghosts,” you said.
“Well, they’re made of a stream of positively charged ions which counters the negative charge of the ghosts,” he said as if it was the most obvious thing.
“Sure, and what are ions?” you asked.
“Ions are just atoms or groups of atoms that are charged positively or negatively,” he replied, “obviously ours are charged positively.”
“And how do they get that way?”
He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. You could feel the smirk on your face, his obvious frustration only making the moment sweeter. You sauntered back into frame, shoving him over to stand beside him, looking into the camera.
“So atoms are made up of three things. Protons, which have a positive charge, neutrons, which are neutral, and then you have the electrons which have a negative charge. The protons and the neutrons are together in the middle of the atom as the nucleus, and then the electron orbits around the nucleus. Depending on how many protons and electrons their are, atoms can have different charges, which is how they bond together into molecules,” you said, turning to look at him at the end to see how he was reacting.
“Everyone knows that,” he scoffed.
“Do they?” you asked, “not everyone pays attention in their science classes. Plenty of people don’t even turn up to them. Start with the basics and build up to the more complicated stuff.”
He rolled his eyes but he gestured for you to continue.
“Right, so if ions are made up of atoms then the charge is to do with how many protons and electrons those atoms have. Our proton streams use positively charged ions, meaning there are more protons than electrons,” you said, back to the camera.
“Our proton packs can strip the electrons from the atoms to positively charge the proton streams. And because ghosts are negatively charged, the proton streams hold them in place so we can lower them into the trap which holds them until they can be brought to a containment unit just like this one,” Lars said, gently patting the red metal door behind him.
“So there you go, Gina. That’s why you always see the ghostbusters with those massive backpacks on when they’re running around the city,” you said.
“That’s it?” he asked, sounding incredulous, “that’s the entire thing?”
“Bite sized science. Short enough to not lose their attention, factual enough that they learn something,” you said.
You weren’t sure how to interpret the look on his face but you didn’t have time to unpack it before he walked off, not even bothering with a goodbye. You chuckled, stopping the recording and taking your equipment back to your desk.
Editting the video, you couldn’t help but smile at the screen. There was something about watching your interaction with Lars that had you laughing to yourself. You shouldn’t have found it as amusing as you did. Something in your chest began to warm as you watched it over and over again. Eventually you had to slam your laptop and focus on something else or else you’d just watch him on repeat.
You had to ignore that it was one of the better performing science explainer videos you’d posted in quite some time.
“Hey, ghost boy,” you said, sauntering up to his desk a few days later.
His eyes were slow to look up at you. You held out the bag of chips you were eating, offering him some. He considered you a moment before his hand slipped into the bag. You rested against the edge of his desk, looking down at his work.
“Whatcha working on?” you asked.
“What do you want?” he asked rather than replying.
“Well, I was thinking since our last video did so well, we should do some more. Between your pretty face and my words we’d be unstoppable,” you said.
His eyes ran over you from behind those thick framed glasses and you found yourself feeling nervous about his answer. It wasn’t like you’d asked him on a date. His answer didn’t matter that much.
“I have better things to be doing with my time. Like actual science,” he replied, looking away from you.
“So you don’t want people to know about what you do?” you asked, “you don’t like talking about science with me?”
You saw a flush climb up his neck. You nudged his shoulder, offering him a wide smile.
“C’mon. We were amazing. Despite your personality issues, we make a pretty good team,” you said.
He muttered something under his breath that you didn’t quite catch. You lent closer, hoping to hear the acerbic comment you were sure he was making. He reared back, as if your presence was offending him, something so disgusting he couldn’t bare it. Your stomach swooped and you drew back again quickly.
“Never mind then. Clearly you’re so much busier than me and don’t have time for anything but nerd shit,” you said, “keep the chips.”
You got out of there as quickly as possible, not sure you’d be able to handle looking at his stupidly cute face anymore. The pressure behind your eyes was allergies, nothing to do with him. And the shame was just part and parcel for working on the internet.
You definitely were not feeling so bad because of Lars Pinfield.
Something made a soft noise as it was placed onto your desk. Raising your head from the cushioned position it had on your folded arms, you found the sweet scent of coffee wafting towards you. You reached for the mug, taking a long drink from it before looking up.
Lars was standing a few steps away, watching you. You gave him a small smile, sipping from the mug again. He readjusted his glasses, still watching you and you weren’t sure how to react. It had been a few days since you’d spoken to him, keeping your distance after the disaster that was your last conversation.
“Thanks, ghost boy,” you said, voice quiet.
“You were practically asleep at your desk. Who else is going to bother the scientists?” he replied.
“Aw, you do care,” you said, “have you been missing me?”
He scoffed.
“Or maybe you’re just jealous that I’ve been bothering all the other scientists instead of you,” you said, hiding your smile behind the rim of your coffee mug.
He couldn’t meet your gaze.
And then it hit you.
“You know my coffee order,” you said, looking down into the mug.
“I’m observant,” he replied, adjusting his glasses again, still not looking at you.
“Careful, ghost boy, or I’ll think there’s some sweetness under all that spice.”
That flush again. You wanted to know what it meant. You stood, ignoring him when he took a step back. Your fingers were soft when they brushed against the flushed skin, warm under your touch.
“What are you doing?” he asked, batting at your hand.
“You’re blushing,” you said.
Your fingers were still resting against his neck. You could feel how fast his pulse was thrumming and when you looked up into his face you found wide blue eyes staring down at you. Pink lips were parted and you felt frozen, caught up in his gaze.
You blink and he tore himself away.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said before quickly retreating.
Once again you were left feeling stupid, like you’d been rejected by your crush. The whiplash was staggering. You fell back into your chair, robotically drinking the coffee he’d made for you. You hated that it was perfect. You hated that he’d run away from you. You hated that he could make you feel like this.
It all came to a head a week later. You’d been avoiding him, and if your gut was right, he was avoiding you too. It shouldn’t have hurt, but it did. None of it had been making any sense to you.
You were in the middle of setting up a shot of one of the ghosts when raised voices began to grow closer. You ignored it, used to the outbreak of arguments in the lab. Stress and frustration were not unusual in the parapsychology field.
“She’s making a mockery of us.”
Oh yes, you knew that voice.
“Lars, she’s just doing her job,” Winston said.
“She’s a distraction,” Lars said.
Turning the corner he looked furious. You blinked at him and he blinked back, clearly not expecting you to be right there.
“I hired her for this. There’s been a significant decrease in online outcry about the work going on here. The news hasn’t complained about the Ghostbusters in weeks. People seem to finally be understanding what we do here,” Winston said.
“Everything she does makes fun of us online. No one is taking us seriously here. Have you seen those videos of me she’s been posting? She doesn’t care about the science and she certainly doesn’t understand how important our work is here,” Lars complained.
“Are you kidding me?” burst from you, “do you seriously think I don’t care about this place?”
“I know you don’t. You wouldn’t make light of everything we do here if you did,” he replied, pointing his finger at you, “you have no idea how brilliant we are.”
“Seriously? You were a laughing stock before I got here. I did the research. I know how people talked about you. Because of me people understand what you do here. I write all your press releases so the news isn’t making fun of you. I rewrite all of your grant applications so you have money. I make it clear that what you’re doing here is very serious business and not just fucking around with ghosts. And if you think I don’t care, then you’re not as smart as you think you are. Of course I know how brilliant you are, Lars. I’m the person constantly telling the world exactly how brilliant you are. So don’t think I don’t know because I do. Probably better than anyone.”
He strode towards you, something fierce on his face. You held your ground, not going to be cowed by him again. You were sick and tired of him constantly looking down on your work just because it wasn’t science. He had no right to complain about you or the work you did.
He stopped in front of you and you stared up at him, waiting for the next acidic words out of his mouth. Instead, both of his hands came up to cup your cheeks and he was pulling you in. His lips landed on yours and you felt yourself freeze. He kissed you harder and you melted, hands landing on his chest.
Oh.
So that’s what the flush was about.
It took until Winston cleared his throat for the two of you to break apart. You looked up into his face, at a loss for words.
“I think I’ll leave you two to sort this out between you,” Winston said, “but I doubt you’re going to want her to leave now.”
He chuckled as he left, sauntering away from the two of you.
“You kissed me,” you said.
“I’ll do it again if you’re not careful,” he replied.
“You have to take me to dinner first.” You gently tapped his nose, “or agree to film more videos with me. You do kind of owe me. You did try to get me fired.”
“Fine,” he grumbled.
“Why do you hate them so much?” you asked, “are you actually uncomfortable with scores of women finding you hot? Because if so you should know that I’m one of those women that finds you hot.
“Of course you do. I don’t like the ones about me because it’s not about the science. They shouldn’t care about how I look but about what I do,” he said.
“And the one where we explained the proton streams?” you asked.
“It was so obvious how I feel about you in that one. People were talking about it in the comments. It wasn’t about the science, just speculation about our relationship. And I thought if you saw it you might… realise exactly how I feel about you,” he said with a soft sigh.
“Aw, ghost boy, I think I’ve figured it out.” You reached up, running your fingers through his hair, just like you’d once spent too long imagining doing, “and who cares if they’er speculating about our relationship. They’re still listening to the science as they do it. Foot in the door.”
His hands landed on your hips, pulling you a half a step closer.
“I suppose I can force myself to film some more videos with you,” he murmured.
“I think you’ll like the rewards you get if you do,” you whispered.
“Oh?” His nose brushed against yours.
“How about we do a pilot study right now?” you breathed.
“It’s so hot when you talk science to me,” he said.
Your lips pressed to his again and you sighed into his mouth. You thought you could kiss him for hours, doing nothing but melting into him until you didn’t know where you stopped and he begun. His arms curled around your waist and you found your back hitting the cool glass of the ghost’s prison, pressed against it with his body moulding to yours.
“Your hypothesis seems to be correct. I think I will like my rewards for filming your videos,” he murmured against your lips.
You kissed him again in response.

So, the three main fandom takeaways from Frozen Empire are:
First crushes can literally be the end of the world.
Peck is still dickless.
Lars pretty.
