Château de Chenonceau:
The Château de Chenonceau has been home to many powerful women from the past. Within the walls of the Château are art pieces by some of the greatest European artists from the 16th-18th centuries (Château Chenonceau). Artworks by Van Loo, Van Dyck, and Rubens included. Women have played a big part in building and maintaining the Château. The Château was originally of medieval style and was later reconstructed. The reconstruction began in 1513 and was completed in 1517 (Château Chenonceau). Thomas Bohier and Catherine Briçonnet, his wife, constructed it (Château Chenonceau). The estate was taken away from Thomas Bohier and was given to the royal (Partridge, 2020). One of the women who took care of the Château was Queen Catherine de’ Medici. 1559 was the approximate time Catherine de’ Medici cared for the estate. Catherine de’ Medici held various events within the château such as festivals but while hosting these events she also managed her control over the French Kingdom (Château Chenonceau). When her daughter-in-law, Louise de Lorraine, became a widow she also moved into the Château (Château Chenonceau). At one point Henri II had possession of the estate and gave it to Diane de Poitier, who was his mistress, and she constructed the arch bridge that connected the Château to the other side of the river (Partridge, 2020). Towards the 18th century Louise Dupins husband bought the estate for her (Château Chenonceau). While Louise Dupins cared for the estate she invited many scholars and even wrote up a draft for one the first codes for women's rights (Château Chenonceau). The chateau was then passed to Madame Pelouze who ended up with a financial scandal that led her to sell it to Henri Menier (Château Chenonceau). When Henri Menier died his brother was given the estate to which he transformed it into a military hospital due to the setting and time period being during the great war (Château Chenonceau). During World War II the Meniers used the château to help people sneak away from Nazi territory (Château Chenonceau). Besides the rich history of the Château the architecture is interesting. The exterior of the castle is built in a mixture of medieval architecture style and renaissance style (Partridge, 2020). One of the women who helped build the Château added decorative windows to try and make the building look less medieval (Partridge, 2020). While Catherine de’ Medici lived in the Château she had checkerboard floors added to the interior (Partridge, 2020). Today the Chateau is still standing and people are able to go visit it. It is know for being one of the finest buildings in all of the Loire Valley (Partridge, 2020).

Our next profile for Writers in Horror Month is Erckmann-Chatrian
Erckmann-Chatrian was the name used by French authors Émile Erckmann (1822–1899) and Alexandre Chatrian (1826–1890), nearly all of whose works were jointly written.
History
Both Erckmann and Chatrian were born in the département of Meurthe (now Moselle), in the Lorraine region in the extreme north-east of France. They specialised in military fiction and ghost stories in a rustic mode Lifelong friends who first met in the spring of 1847, they finally quarreled during the mid-1880s, after which they did not produce any more stories jointly. During 1890 Chatrian died, and Erckmann wrote a few pieces under his own name.
Many of Erckmann-Chatrian's works were translated into English by Adrian Ross.
Tales of supernatural horror by the duo that are well known in English include "The Wild Huntsman" (tr. 1871), "The Man-Wolf" (tr. 1876) and "The Crab Spider." These stories received praise from the renowned English ghost story writer, M. R. James, as well as H. P. Lovecraft.
Erckmann-Chatrian wrote numerous historical novels, some of which attacked the Second Empire in anti-monarchist terms. Partly as a result of their republicanism, they were praised by Victor Hugo and Émile Zola, and fiercely attacked in the pages of Le Figaro. Gaining popularity from 1859 for their nationalistic, anti-militaristic and anti-German sentiments, they were well-selling authors but had trouble with political censorship throughout their careers. Generally the novels were written by Erckmann, and the plays mostly by Chatrian.
A festival in their honour is held every summer in the town of Erckmann's birth, Phalsbourg (German Pfalzburg), which also contains a military museum exhibiting editions of their works.

Another Italian town is selling homes for €1
Sant’Elia a Pianisi joins the ever-growing list of towns in Italy selling super-cheap homes
As property prices and scary interest rates continue to dominate conversations, Italy has come through once again with an unbeatable offer to get you on the property ladder. The town of Sant’Elia a Pianisi in the scenic region of Molise has put eight houses up for sale for just €1.
It’s a pretty sweet deal for prospective homeowners – but there is a catch. The houses are serious fixer-uppers, and those who do snap up a property will be asked to put down a deposit of €5,000 (£4,403, $5,330) deposit ahead of the necessary renovation works taking place. They’ll have to pay all the usual fees involved in owning a home.
The new residents of Sant’Elia a Pianisi will also have to abide by certain rules, according to the mayor. They’ll be asked to present a renovation project to the local authority within six months of purchasing the house, and the said renovations will have to be completed within the next three years. The town will favour buyers who are planning to hire local workers, use regional materials, and renovate in the shortest amount of time.
What’s the idea behind all these demands? Well, the hope is that investment and renovation from new homeowners will help to stimulate the town’s economy. Plus, this way, the new residents are more likely to build a bond with the village and care about its future.
Sant’Elia a Pianisi’s €1 homes are part of an ongoing scheme to reawaken Italy’s many sleepy towns. As young Italians migrate to the city in search of job opportunities, Italy’s villages are becoming quiet areas with small, ageing populations. To make their towns more vibrant and lucrative, many regions have adopted affordable homeownership strategies like this one. Those who’ve bought houses for €1 include celebrities like British talk-show host Alan Carr and The Sopranos actor Lorraine Bracco.
You can find all of Italy’s €1 properties on 1eurohouses.com, which features picturesque homes across Emilia-Romagna, Abruzzo, Campania, Sicily, and more.
Did you see that this Italian town has been named the friendliest place in the world?
Here are the top ten most welcoming destinations in the world, according to Booking.com.

Day 4 in Paris was wetter than any other day, so we finally got a feel for what the weather is like when it’s not beautiful 80 and sunny. Today we focused on Gastronomy. As a class we took a stroll down to the Marché, umbrellas in hand, to look at all of the fresh product that the vendors were selling. There was everything from fish to dairy products to fruits and veggies. Our challenge for the day was to find something that we had never tried before, and buy some to taste. I got a Neufchâtel cheese and a Muscat de Lunel jam, which were a type of cheese similar to a brie, and a white wine jam. I also bought myself some fresh berries!
Tumblr media
After the Marché, we decided to sit down at the cafe next door and have a quick lunch. I had an amazing Quiche Lorraine and a cappuccino. During lunch, we discussed our plan for the rest of the day. We ended up deciding to go to the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. However, on our walk home from lunch we stopped in at Shakespeare and Co. to get some books to read in the Garden’s of Luxembourg. The museum was such an amazing experience! Being from the Chicago area, I have spent my fair share of time at the Art Institute, so being able to see artists that I had never heard of before was so awesome. When we completed our stroll of the Modern Art Museum, we stopped in at the cafe connected to the museum for dinner. The food was absolutely incredible, as well as the decor in the restaurant! It was decorated just like a forest, which was the name of the restaurant so very fitting. On our way home we saw a beautiful sunset and the Eiffel tower. :)

Cannibal Ferox- 1981
Giovanni Lombardo Radice, Lorraine De Selle, Danilo Mattei, Zora Kerova, Walter Lucchini, Robert Kerman, John Bartha, Venantino Venantini
Review: This movie was not well written, well acted, and it's not scary. The real horror is in the morals of the people that made the movie. When I want to watch a horror movie, I want to watch people fake die, and be entertained. I don't want to watch real animals, be actually tortured and killed.
This is one of those movies that's not trying to tell a good story, or make a statement about something, it's made with the pure intention of trying to gross out, and be the goriest thing you've ever seen.
Their is no substance to this movie. The story is dumb, the characters are shallow, and purposefully written to make the audience hate them so we cheer along as they get killed.
It was made with the sole intention to drive people into the theater from pure curiosity to see how gross it could get. The tag line for the movie was even "The Most Violent Film Ever Made".
The whole movie was built around how gory it could get, and then the effects of the gore were cheap and obviously fake. They didn't even color the blood of one of the people right in one of the more graphic scenes. It was lazy.
Don't waste your time watching this movie, I'm judging myself for finishing it.
