As part of our recent camp at MiCamp Lake Taupo, we spent some time on our beautiful lake with some games and activities. We have had a strong environmental element throughout all of our topics this year and so the children were very happy to do a service to the community and pick up rubbish. We chose an area that we based ourselves at for the day. Incidentally, an Ironman event was held the weekend before and so we were curious to see what rubbish we could find. In actual fact, the students were really impressed as we found very little plastic, but mainly bottle lids and cigarette butts. Having the gloves to use was fantastic as we obviously don't want to touch objects that have been in peoples mouths. The adults on camp with us were impressed at the thoroughness of the clean up and also the attitudes the students displayed at looking after our beautiful lake.
