love telling my parents how upset I am that years of work by artists, storytellers, animators etc. got wiped overnight and them replying insistently that "that's just how it is. that's just how the economy is" well maybe the economy and system needs to be changed. maybe you shouldn't have to sign over the entirety of your completed project just so some rich fucking asshole can just flush it down the drain and completely eradicate it from the Internet.
time to start investing in some Internet archives because I am literally sick to my stomach after hearing the news.

do you ship domlene?
ok to be honest i dont find domlene all that interesting, but i dont hate it. i certainly enjoyed it more in s2 when it felt like cat and mouse, but i started to lose interest during s3. its not that i think the ship is bad or anything, its just not my style. i like ships that are a little more crazy, and dom is kind of a square. shes too "good" of a person for me to be interested in her lol. it felt like in a sea of characters undergoing corruption arcs (my fave thing ever), dom was always a constant espouser of "good morals": following the law, looking out for your family, trying to do the right thing. i seriously just do not find any of that compelling at all, and especially given that dom is a fed, i was even less interested.
in my dream world, dom starts off as a "good cop" but begins to resort to more and more shady methods as she gets increasingly obsessed with tracking down darlene. s2 would end with darlene getting caught, making a deal to keep her and elliot out of jail, and then continuing to work on fsociety projects behind doms back. i really liked darlenes role as a ringleader in s2, doing random PR acts like sawing the balls off the wall street bull, and i wish she had done more of that. in s3, darlene would be a double agent, giving dom bullshit information while helping elliot try to track down tyrell/stop mr robot themselves. all of this done out of their mutual distrust in the legal system to provide any justice or do anything besides serve the interest of the government, ofc. dom would start to break away from the fbi and pursue darlene more out of personal morbid interest. maybe she'd even do something that really breaks the fbi code of conduct and earn herself a suspension or something, idk. maybe she gets too close to figuring out who whiterose is and is fired for no reason, leading her to become even more suspicious and unhinged in her detective methods. just ANYTHING to complicate her morals a bit.
so to answer ur question, i think domlene is fine, but a bit boring for me, and it all stems from my lack of interest in doms character. when they hooked up in s3 and dom immediately turned herself in to the fbi for breaking the rules i was just like ugh, seriously?? i wish dom had been forced to examine the role of the fbi in state violence or how theyre so clearly owned by the rich and powerful more, but she never really got there. even in 410, shes concerned with clearing her name with the fbi. i also find it kind of hard to believe darlene would be able to put aside the fact that dom is a cop so easily lol, but what do i know.

1951 Studebaker Woodie - Never Slow Down - StreetRodder
Body
Gray Baskerville accurately described Dennis Varni as "a hot rodder's hot rodder." Since buying a '31 Model A as a teenager in the late '50s, Dennis doesn't seem to have slowed down ever. He has amassed a phenomenal stable of collector cars, trucks, vintage race cars, and motorcycles of practically every type, including the '29 Model A roadster built by Boyd Coddington that was named America's Most Beautiful Roadster in 1992. He has participated in motorsports all over the world, including numerous trips to Mexico to race in the famous La Carrera Panamericana, to South Africa for the South African Rally Championship, and to the Bonneville Salt Flats, right here in the U.S., where he drove his Falconer L6-powered "Speed Nymph" streamliner just shy of 350 mph.
Dennis has more checks on his hot rodding bucket list than just about anybody we know. So did you really expect his latest street rod to be something ordinary?

Any 1951 Studebaker woodie custom could be considered out of the ordinary (how many can you think of?), but Dennis, builder Curt Hill, and the people who had previously helped create this custom woodie, have taken the '51 to an extraordinary level.
This car was under construction when Dennis made the winning bid for it at the auction of the late Joe MacPherson's prized collection. The unfinished project had been started by Doug Carr of Woodn' Carr. It had already been transformed from a sedan to a fastback (based on Thom Taylor's design sketches) and was already a woodie. The top was chopped 2-1/2 inches, and the rear fenders were stretched 18 inches and treated to custom taillight lenses and bezels. The '37 Ford headlights were installed by Steve Davis, who had done some of the early fabrication on the car.
Such an unusual car deserved an equally unique engine. For a while, Dennis considered dropping in a Cadillac engine to create his own version of the Studillac, the Cadillac-powered Stude coupes custom-built in the mid '50s. Then he remembered the one-of-a-kind induction system he'd found at a swap meet decades ago. The mechanical fuel injection system, with wild-looking air bodies, was a prototype created by Propulsion Development Laboratories in the '50s. Everybody had seen it on the cover of Hot Rod magazine in 1959 and nobody had seen it since. The setup is finally in service, feeding a Ford 427 FE engine. Dan Brewer in Torrance, California, did the assembly on the engine and converted the PDL mechanical injection to work with a Hilborn electronic system hidden under the manifold. Edelbrock cylinder heads are topped with Edsel valve covers to replicate the look engine on Hot Rod's cover. The new combination produced 410 hp on the dyno. An adapter fits the Ford to a GM 700-R4 transmission. This is one of the rarest, most unusual engines you'll find in a hot rod, but Dennis is almost nonchalant about it. "Nobody puts Edsels in Studebakers," is what he said.
The interior was entrusted to Sid Chavers in Santa Clara, California. Chavers built custom bucket seats and covered them in tan leather with gray-toned fur inserts. No need to replace the '51 Studebaker dash, so Redline Gauge Works restored the appearance of the factory gauges and updated the internals. A reproduction '54 Stude steering wheel came from Shrock Brothers, which specializes in repro Studebaker parts. Lucky 7 Customs gave the wheel and column their wood grain paint. The perfect accessory to the interior is the set of vintage alligator-grain luggage in the rear deck area, which Dennis found in an antique store in Washington.
The end result is a genuinely unique custom that would probably hover around the top of most people's lists of great Studebakers, great woodies, and great customs.

(Nasdaq: LIPO) ("Lipella," "our," "us" or the "Company"), a clinical-stage biotechnology company addressing serious diseases with significant unmet need, today announces that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for clinical testing of LP-410 in the treatment of oral Graft-Versus-Host Disease (GVHD).
Lipella’s clinical study, titled, A Multicenter, Dose-Ranging Trial Evaluating the Safety, Tolerability, and Efficacy of LP-410 in Subjects with Symptomatic Oral GVHD, is expected to commence in the second half of 2024.

LP-410 targets the underlying mechanisms of oral GVHD, potentially providing a safe and effective treatment option for affected individuals.  Lipella received FDA Orphan Drug Designation on tacrolimus for treatment of GVHD on November 8, 2023.

Oral GVHD is a rare and serious disease. GVHD is a major cause of morbidity and mortality with chronic GVHD being the leading cause of nonmalignant fatality post Hematopoietic Cell transplantation (HCT). While Ukraine remains locked in a brutal war with Russia, Ukraine’s government in Kyiv is already looking forward to a day when the country rebuilds itself from the ground up.
It will be no small task. The World Bank estimates that, as of early this year, Ukraine’s rebuilding costs surpassed $410 billion. To recover from Russia’s bombing, shelling, and attacks against critical infrastructure, Ukraine will need massive investments in its water services, agriculture, mine disposal, health care system, and more.
While the push to rebuild Ukraine’s critical infrastructure will be gargantuan, there is also a mounting need to repair the country’s housing stock. The World Bank estimates Ukraine will need at least $69 billion to replace homes and apartment buildings damaged and destroyed by the war—roughly $2 billion of that amount is needed urgently.
While billions are pouring in from governments around the world to fund Ukraine’s defensive efforts and to replace critical infrastructure, the country is turning to private donors to help replace its citizens’ wrecked homes. Using United24, Kyiv’s official crowdfunding platform, the government is hoping to show its supporters what’s been lost and what might be rebuilt.
As part of the crowdfunding campaign, supporters can explore a map of homes that are in need of repair. Each address features a 3D rendering of the home before it was damaged in the war. It also includes personal stories from the building’s former residents and testimonials about their desire to return. Some even include a livestream of the construction in progress.
One, in Irpin, is a nine-storey apartment building whose 390 residents were forced to abandon their homes after the structure was shelled by a Russian tank, which “would aimlessly shoot” at the building, according to the crowdfunding page. Photos of the damage to the exterior are bad, a former resident told United24: “It is even worse to see these completely destroyed and burnt apartments live.”
Another, a brutalist apartment block in Borodianka, was devastated by air strikes and mortar shells—some of its residents stayed in the building through the frigid Ukrainian winter, having repaired a hole in the wall themselves.
In Hostomel, a huge apartment building was damaged by a Russian missile before being occupied by the invading soldiers. The Russians mined the area before leaving, according to Kyiv. Alyona, a former resident, explained in a statement supplied by United24 that she hasn’t given up on it: “Despite everything, this is the house in which we lived happily with our husband and children.”
The new fundraising appeal comes amid a certain “tiredness” from donors, as Ukraine’s finance minister put it. Yaroslava Gres, United24’s main coordinator, says overcoming that fatigue is his mission. “We ask ourselves: What will motivate them to keep standing with Ukraine?” he tells WIRED.
Gres says he hopes that letting prospective donors see the homes they will help rebuild, and hear from the people who want to return home, will inspire the support to keep coming. “Storytelling gives our donors an opportunity to feel complicity with the specific people they support, as well as with the specific targets they help rebuild,” he says.
The 3D renderings come via LUN, a Ukrainian realty website that partnered with United24 for the project. The company dispatched photographers, equipped with drones, to buildings across the country. The footage is used to create a digital replica of a damaged building. From there, its architects plot the reconstruction of the building.
“We have been digitizing the future for years, modeling how cities can develop, and how new buildings can be built,” a LUN spokesperson tells WIRED. “It was difficult to see destruction instead; to look through hundreds of photos of the damage dealt and depict everything as is.”
These 3D renderings will also be made available through augmented reality, letting users picture the buildings through their phone camera or AR headset.
The logistics behind rebuilding Ukraine’s civil infrastructure is going to be enormous and complicated. In a presentation delivered in May, Maksym Smilianets—co-owner of Ukrainian internet service provider Viner—highlighted the magnitude of the problem they face in rebuilding and reconnecting the country. The air strikes and shelling did an enormous amount of damage to the telecommunications infrastructure, he explained. Hundreds of kilometers of fiber-optic cable have already been laid to repair that destruction.
In the areas currently under Russian control, the invading army quickly switched the connection to the Moscow-controlled internet. “They rebuilt the connections and stole our equipment,” Smilianets’ presentation explained. In the liberated parts of Ukraine, repair crews found boobytraps inside the telecommunications infrastructure, he said. “They did everything possible for total disconnection.”
Even as ISPs like Smilianets’ Viner work to rebuild the shared infrastructure of Ukraine, once one of the best-connected countries in Europe, there will be enormous work required to reconnect each damaged home and apartment block across the country. That “last mile” will likely require hundreds of kilometers more fiber-optic cable.
“No one has the power to cleanse the depths of human nature from the evil that sometimes rises to the surface and destroys and kills,” Ukrainian president Voldomyr Zelensky told the Ukraine Recovery Conference held in London this past June. “But you and I, and right now, we are able to protect life and overcome the ruins.”

Rust Compiler Performance Triage
Fairly positive week with very few regressions and some decent (albeit incremental) improvements. The most widespread gains came from some standard library improvements which are not a particularly common cause of large improvements in compiler performance. Overall a large chunk of the perf test suite showed an average of 0.6% improvement.

Experiments to complete scientific understanding of how reduced gravity affects boiling and condensation With temperatures on the moon ranging from minus 410 to a scorching 250 degrees Fahrenheit, it's an understatement to say that humans will need habitats with heat and air conditioning to survive there long term. But heating and cooling systems won't be effective enough to support habitats for lunar exploration or even longer trips to Mars without an understanding of what reduced gravity does to boiling and condensation. Engineers haven't been able to crack this science—until now. "Every refrigerator, every air conditioning system we have on Earth involves boiling and condensation. Those same mechanisms are also prevalent in numerous other applications, including steam power plants, nuclear reactors and both chemical and pharmaceutical industries," said Issam Mudawar, Purdue University's Betty Ruth and Milton B. Hollander Family Professor of Mechanical Engineering. "We have developed over a hundred years' worth of understanding of how these systems work in Earth's gravity, but we haven't known how they work in weightlessness." A team of engineers at Purdue led by Mudawar, who is collaborating with NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, has spent 11 years developing a facility to investigate these phenomena. The facility is called the Flow Boiling and Condensation Experiment (FBCE). Initial designs were tested on Zero Gravity Corporation's (Zero-G) weightless research lab, a specially modified Boeing 727 that flies parabolic maneuvers to create the reduced gravities on the moon and Mars as well as the weightless conditions in space. Following in-flight testing, NASA Glenn and the agency's Biological and Physical Sciences Division assisted Mudawar's team in creating a smaller version of the experiment to fit into the Fluids Integrated Rack on the International Space Station. After passing NASA safety and readiness reviews, FBCE launched to the space station in August 2021 and has since helped researchers to begin to unlock the mystery of how boiling and condensation work in the extreme environments of space. These answers are in data the team is collecting from two sets of FBCE experiments taking place on the station. Last July, the facility's first experiment finished gathering all the data that Mudawar says scientists need to understand how reduced gravity affects boiling. In the coming months, the equipment for the second experiment will launch to the orbiting laboratory as part of a Northrop Grumman commercial resupply services mission for NASA (NG-19) to gather data on how condensation happens in a reduced gravity environment. Both experiments making up the facility will remain in orbit through 2025, allowing the fluid physics community at large to take advantage of this data. "We are ready to literally close the book on the whole science of flow and boiling in reduced gravity," Mudawar said. "Astronauts on the moon will need air conditioning systems, refrigeration systems and many other systems that all require boiling and condensation. Because of the new understanding we've received from data showing how these phenomena are influenced by reduced gravity, we are able to provide guidance into how to size the equipment, how to design it effectively and how to predict its performance." The researchers are preparing a series of research papers unpacking data the FBCE has collected on the International Space Station, adding to more than 60 papers they have published on weightlessness and fluid flow since testing their facility on Zero-G flights at the beginning of the project. Answering decades-old questions "The papers we have published over the duration of this project are really almost like a textbook for how to use boiling and condensation in space," Mudawar said. "For more than 60 years, since the beginning of spaceflight, the field has known that boiling and condensation would be ideal for space, but previous attempts to study these concepts in microgravity hadn't been successful." Each decade the National Academies publishes a report that guides NASA, the White House and Congress on areas of research to prioritize for funding over the next 10 years. In the 2011 report, numerous scientists recommended that the role of gravity in controlling vapor-fluid behavior be considered as one of those priorities for space exploration. The FBCE project was created in response to the decadal report. The farther missions are from Earth, the more likely that the spacecraft for those missions will need nuclear power. Compared to other types of processes that enable heating and cooling in space, boiling and condensation are much more effective at transferring heat for these nuclear-powered vehicles and habitats. Boiling and condensation would also allow heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to be more compact and lightweight. Since the 1970s, Mudawar has been working to make it possible to use boiling and condensation to tackle energy transfer and temperature control challenges for a wide range of systems. Examples include high-temperature turbine systems, supercomputers, data centers, avionics, hybrid vehicle power electronics, hydrogen fuel cells, metal alloy heat treating, particle accelerators and fusion reactors. The largest experiments of their kind According to Mudawar, FBCE is the first set of experiments to provide data that is extensive and systematic enough for developing the models engineers need to design all sorts of space systems using boiling and condensation in reduced gravity. "We now have a basis for comparing and contrasting data for both Earth gravity and reduced gravity in pursuit of modeling tools that can be applicable to a broad range of gravities," Mudawar said. Mudawar and his students have been developing three sets of predictive tools over the past 11 years based on FBCE data. One set of tools puts the data into the form of equations that engineers can use to design space systems. Another set identifies fundamental information about fluid physics from the data, and the third set is computational models of the fluid dynamics. All together, these models would make it possible to predict which equipment designs could operate in lunar and Martian gravity. FBCE is NASA's largest and most complex experiment for fluid physics research. Between February and July last year, the facility successfully conducted 234 tests, yielding nearly 3,800 data points and an equal number of high-speed video records. More than 35 engineers and technicians from different teams across NASA Glenn have worked on this project, helping turn design concepts from Mudawar and his students into a facility that could be installed into the space station. These teams included Glenn's FBCE Engineering, Safety and Mission Assurance, Science, Software, and Technician teams, and Fluids and Combustion Facility Operations teams. Fifteen past and current Purdue Ph.D. students have assisted Mudawar on all aspects of collaborative work with NASA. Two Purdue doctoral candidates, V.S. Devahdhanush and Steven Darges, assisted in monitoring the experiments on the space station via a dedicated workstation set up at Purdue. The Purdue team also provided recommendations for refinement of operating conditions for subsequent tests to continuously improve science yield per test. Data from the FBCE would benefit not only space systems, but also technology on Earth. Using lessons they learned about boiling from this data, Mudawar and his team invented a new charging cable design for electric vehicles that would allow them to charge in less than five minutes. Today's most advanced charging cables take more than 20 minutes to charge an electric vehicle. A patent application for this fast-charging cable invention has been filed through the Purdue Research Foundation Office of Technology Commercialization. "The amount of data coming out of the FBCE is just absolutely enormous, and that's exactly what we want," Mudawar said. TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP IN BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE: WHAT TO LOOK FOR BEYOND THE LICENSE COST
According to Gartner, the most quoted fact in Business Intelligence (BI) is, “70-80% of BI Projects fail.” BI projects fail for a number of reasons whether it be a simple lack of time, resource or domain expertise to critical factors such as lack of a clear BI strategy and vision, poor stakeholder buy-in and probably the most influential – choosing the BI tool based purely on software license cost and not considering the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
While software licensing cost cannot be ignored and indeed forms a significant part of the overall BI investment, focusing on this in isolation and not the TCO runs the risk of overspend, project derailment and potentially a tool that is not fit for purpose. When choosing a BI tool, it is important to ensure you are comparing apples to apples and not fall victim to a low-cost BI solution that ends up being higher in cost due to limited functionality and hidden add-on costs. Data Manipulation: Most organizations today have disparate data sources and have the need to bring raw data from multiple sources whether it be on-premise such as spreadsheets, legacy ERP systems or bespoke applications or cloud based such as SharePoint, Google drives, Salesforce or IoT devices. Look for a tool with an extensive library of pre-built connectors with bi-directional data integration capabilities, without this you are in danger of having to source expensive development resource to continually build connectors.
Extract, Transform, Load (ETL): Many BI tools in the market today charge extra for drag and drop ETL functionality. Choose a tool with ETL built in at no extra cost with the ability to quickly normalize data from disparate sources and automatically keep datasets up to date minimizing manual intervention from expensive IT resources.
Scalability: Future proof your BI investment. Data grows at an exponential rate, even in small to medium sized organizations. When considering a BI platform, think of scalability.  With on-premise the cost of additional hardware, the maintenance of the hardware and the cost of support should be taken into account as part of the TCO. Look for Software-as-a Service (SaaS) solutions where your data resides securely in the cloud and can be infinitely scalable without significant increase in investment.
Self-Service BI: A significant cost in any BI journey is the cost of skilled people to support, train and administer along with making data consumable for all. Look for a platform geared towards giving the end user the ability to be self-sufficient and lessen the drain on an already stretched IT team. A BI Tool that is easy to use, intuitive and gives the end user the ability to create data visualizations with ease on a single source of truth, in real-time rather than the dependence on requesting reports or having to manipulate data in spreadsheets willincrease user adoptionand improve employee productivity and reduce cost.
