Australian veterinary schools recognize that skills and attributes such as resilience, critical thinking, and communication are essential for veterinarians, but are not always reflected in academic performance alone. The Casper situational judgement test will be used to select and identify applicants who are best suited to the rigours of veterinary science and the profession.

The Computer-based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics (CASPer) is a 90-minute, web-based aptitude test that assesses a student’s decision-making skills, thought processes, and people skills through open-ended questions. This is what’s known as a situational judgment test (SJT). It asks what you would do in a tough situation, and more importantly, why. This helps determine behavioral tendencies of applicants pursuing people-centered professions, like vet medicine!

I'm sorry, people watched Susan Jane Tanner's performance in the 1998 film and didn't come away from it absolutely *loving* Jellylorum?? Where are they, I just wanna talk...

They're peppered everywhere - used to be way more prominent back in the day, so fortunately you won't see that as much anymore for the most part. But I remember. Little Jemi remembers. "She's too old, Jelly isn't supposed to be old and wrinkled, her face is so severe, her voice is annoying, she was so rough pulling Victoria away and she smiled when Gus was crying what a bitch!1", etc etc etc. More modern fans used "Karen" here and there, lmao (Like okay uh...where exactly). Even seasoned fans complained about her casting (and John Mills' casting too, but that's another point entirely) and her being too old and shrill for the part.

Fanfic writers had a field day with her - guess how many times she was framed as homophobic in old-school tuggoffelees fanfics? Guess how often she was just there to be sour and a naysayer and a frankly militant mom figure?

The goal I have for modern fandom is that we never fall back into this rigamarole ever again. I'm not saying you have to *like* SJT as Jelly, I'm not even saying you need to *like* Jelly herself, but I am saying you have to treat her with the same level of *basic respect* as anyone else in the cast, and stop allowing the bias against older women colour your opinion of an entire character.

#listen i am not against potentially critiquing the casting choices of the 1998 video *HOWEVER* #when there is a noticeable and constant bias and pattern? yeah that's not genuine critique anymore they just hate older ladies #yes there was a bias in casting SJT having been the first Jelly but you know what the entire cast of the 1998 video is casting bias #i think we're all grown up enough to acknowledge that #jellicles ask because jellicles dare #jellicle-chants #the history of the treatment of women in this fandom has a *very* clearly tracked path #also like no offense but i was a kid too and i *still* liked her - it's got nothing to do with that

another thing i love abt this series is it's the most successful "ragtag team of teenagers save the world from total annihilation" story i've ever read. it doesn't suffer the usual issues of that kind of narrative, in that realistically the success of a war doesn't depend on like 4 ppl, but rather the organization of entire communities. it actually works in everlost bc it's not 4 ppl against an army, it's 4 ppl vs mary and her like 7 skinjackers. it's just that their actions do actually have massive consequences on the world, the living world is like their sandbox

i know martha’s uni classmates HATED her. imagine being twenty three and in your last year of medical school and being crushed under the weight of exams and doing the SJT and praying to be assigned to a hospital that’s actually near you, but this random girl graduates early and is made a doctor before any of you (which never happens!
