New & Improved Old Create-A-Sim Background Reuploads!

By popular demand, here are some of my old create a sim backgrounds reuploaded, new and improved. I improved the quality of the IMVU ones, and changed the original recolored textures/messed with the mesh of the brujah ts3 to ts4 3d cas room recolors. As much as I love that conversion by brujah, I’m not a fan of the shaders used on the mesh. It washes out the true brightness and color of the textures I use, so I decided to change the shader from phong to fullbright, making these new and improved versions of my old recolors much more bright and vibrant (and so that they look exactly how they look in sims 4 studio color wise). For the vintage marble one (the one with the Marilyn picture and marble walls) I removed the plant from the mesh, because it didn't look right for that particular recolor theme to me. Hope this isn't a problem!

To get the best experience out of these create a sim backgrounds (and any for that matter), please follow this AMAZING and quick blurry texture fix guide by littledica: https://www.patreon.com/posts/blurry-textures-47015425

This will make the textures of these backgrounds much much clearer. Even though these are create a sim backgrounds, the meshes are world objects, and an update not too long ago made world object textures go from 2048 to 1024 by default. PLEASEEE apply this fix so you can use these, or any custom create a sim backgrounds to their fullest potential. You'll have to redo the fix after every sims 4 update, but trust me, it's worth it. Plus, it doesn't take that long to do at all.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU TAKE OUT ANY OTHER CREATE A SIM BACKGROUND REPLACEMENT IN YOUR MODS FOLDER BEFORE PUTTING ANY OF THESE IN. ONLY USE ONE.

Also, my apologies for the meh sims 4 studio previews. The backgrounds look better in game.

Anyways, enjoy! I plan to make more recolors for the ts3 to ts4 cas background, considering I have a folder full of unused textures for it that I made in photoshop.

Now that Early Access is back, albeit in probably a worse state than ever. What’s a “reasonable amount of time” 2 weeks? A month? 3 months? A year? *Eye roll*Who knows how long the early access windows will drag on for.

Which honestly we are a little relieved about because we don’t want to start nitpicking every single creator, we generally do like early access as a concept except for those that abuse it, and we’d like to focus on the worst offenders. But we digress. Creators let’s chat for a bit, because the past few days have been a whole mess but….We do hope this whole fiasco was a bit of a wake up call for creators.

You guys need to be preparing when chaos strikes again. It’s not a matter of if but when TS5 is coming, EA might sell, it’s best to be ready. So please creators don’t end up caught off guard like you did this time.

Let’s starts here; you are not owed access to create content for a corporation’s intellectual property ever and more importantly forever. What you have with EA is a gift. No one believes us when we say this but everyone wants to go on about how greedy EA is but their monetization of UGC guidelines is one of the the fairest in the business. It is incredibly rare for developers to not only allow it, but to encourage it and foster it within their community with collabs, features and integrations within the game. Ofcourse there are games like SL, IMVU and few others but those are the exception not the rule. Even other EA games don’t have it as easy as us. EA could’ve completely permanently revoked early access and modders would’ve had no recourse. That is just how IP law works, mods are derivative works, selling them in any form or fashion is exceedingly generous by legal standards. They don’t have to do this. Y’all have been taking this for granted.

Tomorrow isn’t promised today. How much longer realistically will TS4 last?

If you look at modders throughout the multiple iterations of the game there are very few that stuck with it from franchise to franchise. We aren’t sure as to why, perhaps the modders grew bored, found they didn’t have as much passion for the sequel as they did whatever version they were modding for. Who knows but TS4 creators will likely run into similar roadblocks.

TS5 may not be as lenient, they may not allow creators to set their own pricing, or they have their own version of Patreon that takes a much larger cut. NSFW mods and CC may not be allowed. The franchise may not even make it past TS5. How long with TS5 last? It may be beyond your skill set to mod for, you may not even enjoy playing it or modding for it. Maybe your fans won’t follow you over. Maybe it won’t have your aesthetic. What if it doesn’t support mods? Or atleast the type of mods and CC we are so accustomed to seeing in the game, now that there are rumors of it being multiplayer. If it’s multiplayer what does this mean for mods that include adult content, drugs etc since you might end up playing with a 12 year old?? What if it implodes like Simcity did and a once beloved franchise ceases to exist. What if instead of that help article EA just announced TS5 release for 2023 and people just decided it made no sense to keep paying for TS4 cc.

EA is looking to sell. Will their next owner be as lenient on creators? Will they let creators sell mods at all? EA has overseen this community since the TS1, a new owner may not understand the community and culture of community, The Sims. One of the names that got thrown around early on when word of looking for a seller broker was Nintendo. Do you guys know how litigious and non supportive of mods Nintendo is? This isn’t to scare you guys it’s just to say there are so many different variables to show that how it’s been does not mean it will always be this way.

These are all serious questions creators need to ask themselves, and it’s been smooth sailing, but it doesn’t mean it will always be. As the other day proved the rug can be pulled out from under you at anytime. Contingency plans need to be put in place, it’s time to diversify. It doesn’t mean you have to do anything that will take significant time away from modding, but gain experience in other areas that if tomorrow, you lost all your Patrons or EA got bought by a company with an asshole CEO you had somewhere else to go. Another path you have a few hours a week in that you could dive in full time. An escape hatch. Make sure you have an emergency fund, right now when times are good save money, make a nest egg, lots of apps will do this automatically for you in very small incremental amounts like digit and acorn.

Because relying on a huge corporation’s intellectual property as your sole source of income is asking for heartache. The community might not be as sympathetic in 1-3 years when the modding community is inevitably thrown into disarray by EAs TS5 plans. Because unlike this time you guys had a sneak preview of what was to come. So please look out for yourself because no one else will. At the end of the day not your Patrons and certainly not EA will make sure your rent is paid.

By all means ride the gravy train as long as you can but be prepared if the wheels fall off.

Hey loves! Decided to upload this home I built, it was inspired by a home I bought on Imvu. I liked the floor plan and the exterior of the house and I wanted something similar for sims, this build looks nothing like the one on Imvu but I did my best lol. Notes on Sims 4 environment design, mods and opinions

I’m still on my creative high believe me but i need to get this off my chest and might be a draft for an in-depth analysis of why we should just dump ts4 and push ea to make ts5 better for us

• Firstly, the pic is my maxis screenshot with a reshade preset that shan’t be reveal yet of my first mod to the game, a background replacement of the basegame, to bring my city into the game aka Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam 🙆🏻‍♀️

• Secondly i found a mod that replace the city buildings and such for the game (to which was extremely hard to track down and the creator is MIA or retired) i imagine doing that must’ve been pretty crazy cause finding the buildings file for environments is pretty hard and also getting it to work properly too, kudos to whoever did that for us, love it to death

• Last point and this is a big one that would pull everything into a hot can of worms:

I recently found out that the original sims 4 wasn’t meant to be what it is today, which is a ‘lackluster cartoon version of sims 3’ smh.. It was, and i’ll keep it in bold, supposed to be an online multiplayer platform 🤡 the clownery, the irony, my god.

Its original name was Olympus and it’s still remain in the game codes til this day, and it’s the reason why there are multiplayer mods for ts4 that exist out in the world and it IS THE REASON why ts4 is this bad and lackluster and weird like how it still is today. I didn’t know until recently looking at the wiki pages and watching YouTube analysis/story on ts4 that i was made known of this fact. Now we have the sims free play and it’s nothing like ts4, and to be frank i dont want to know it, because we all know that is what Olympus was aimed to be but was released on the wrong engine and the wrong time.

2013-2014 and before that (i’d say 2010+ ish) is the prime time of online platform gaming, if you know, you know. EA though it could make something to compete and/or destroy the competition but what it did was ignoring their gamer audience. We are introverts that sit at home torturing our sims and build homes that we’d never able to afford. That’s what we are, most of the sims players dont wanna have a multiplayer time ‘socializing’ through our sims and flex on other people. Why did they think making a kid/young teenagers version of imvu is cute?? Bro c’mon, C’MONNNN 🤧 We are adults, young adults that wants to live out crazy scenarios and multiple timelines, okay? Like the game is 40-60$ and yall expect kids and teenagers to be your core demographics?

Be real for a sec, most players of the franchise technically grew up with the game, and most of them are adults now still enjoying the game albeit lackluster content. Coming back to the 2 points i said in the beginning and explaining with the Olympus argument:

It was meant to be an online platform, so it was built much simpler to be able to load fast and not experiencing online lag while on multiplayer mode. Low spec computers? What about sims 3?? That bitch was colorwheeling openworld fully customizable since 2008?? People played it fine back then. What are you talking about?

When it was at pre-release days, Olympus faced so much backlashs from players that it was forced to switch to the damn ts4 basegame we eventually got back then, it had basically nothing to play with, no babies, because what? Because it was meant to be an online sims platform. The game was made very compact and pretty low poly imo, all the meshing was boiled down to 1 size fits everything. Which very much explains the reality of in-game environment being cardboard placements of scenes AND the reality of we might never get proper cars and openworld.

I truly hope they dont try to make another Olympus nor pushing this ‘online multiplayer’ narrative to us again, just dont, please. Make the sims great again, not worse, thank you.

Bonus Prediction time:

For ts4, on what i’ve seen thus far, i say we would get some content for elders, some more vacation map/or maybe a remote country side with rice fields for farming content. Chances of openworld and cars are low, i dont even wanna think about it. Hopefully some good scifi/city content because we dont got those enough tbh. Maybe a generations type pack, or hobbies, there arent much expansions that can be added to the game anymore i think

For ts5, highly doubt it’d be as vibrant or stylized like ts4. I’d say mildly stylized but not too cartoony, an upgraded sims medieval (mind you that game have better sims texture than ts4, tea) i hope they make the game not too alpha. We would get cars, openworld, colorwheel. Build wise i think it would be in the likes of paralives but not too too customizable because then the proportions would be very off.

And that’s probably it for today, it feels great that I finally got down to wrote this all out bc really it sucks to be in the arguments of ‘ts4 should add this, and add that, and of we never had cars,...’ it’s tiring, and to finally know that at its core the game was not supposed to be like this, does relieve me somewhat. I’m sure the people working at the sims team knows it and already biting their own heads for the hot mess they’ve created and now they have to deal with the mobs that always up on their neck everyday demanding for things that werent meant to be buildt in the game at the beginning. Cut them some slack really, and at this time they are doing their best to fill in all the gaps that ts4 lack and fixing all the bugs within the game. Pray for the sims 5 and hope that they wont do us wrong in the future, because we do feed them yknow.

What I am missing is some nice fully decorated neighborhood for download, not only with trees and stuff, but with all the amazing lights, fake buildings that we get to see in the most amazing photos around Tumblr. Even though I am not an active player, I would love to see my lots in some amazing surroundings. <3

I'd say an easier way to makeover townies. As it is with moving them into the household etc. it is just a long process I think, unless I am just missing a mod that already does this?

  @carriedawaysims you can use the lot debugger (pescado bat box) with the fix flashing blue option to makeover any sim. For clothing, I use control this sim and pescados clothing tool. If you have an owner clothes store you can choose the clothes for the sims shopping there too, and the makeover station will let you give makeovers to townies too, but there is a chance of a bad makeover happening

Natural curly hair for my black simmers out there! Including myself, since that's the kind of hair I have. Sims 4 has so much of it, but Sims 2 is very limited in that department. I have pretty much all the natural hair CC that exists for 2, but it's sadly a limited collection of hairs. :(

  @eggyolkduck I agree and been saying that for years. Being mixed there's a very limited cc for that.Me being a creator can honestly say that there isn't enough.The Urban category in sims2 need to really step it up and play catch up to other platforms.       

You’re right, we should have more but many of those hairs that we see in Sims 4 are taken from Second Life or IMVU and ts2 creators are not gonna convert them. More diversity on clothes would be nice too.

Since I'm not ready to debate about "EA vs CC creators", I post my opinions here.

I'm taking two sides for this topic :

For CC makers, as long as you use EA games to make your own products, it always be EA rights to make your producs as their products. It's EA who makes the game and you use EA games to make your own products. If you don't want to follow EA rules and laws, just sell your own products to another games that allow you to sell them as your products for your profits such as IMVU and Second Life.

As long you've made CC for The Sims (which is one of EA games), you're under EA rights and laws. It isn't your game, but EA game.

On the other side, I think EA greediness is too much. Put any packs with many bugs and not understanding their user needs are some of their greediness. EA should considered CC makers that put their hardwork to make awesome CC for longer time to sale their own CC. Because of EA being 'lazy' and greedy, caused without CC and mods The Sims 4 are nothing if it's compared with another The Sims series. I'm disagree to CC makers who put their CC behind paywall forever, but I think EA should change their rules and TOU to CC makers sell their own products longer than just 3 weeks, so they could get profit for their hardworks.

Makes CC and mods aren't easy and simple. It needs hardworks, talents, and passions. Making a CC and mod would spend a lot of time and efforts.

I wish EA would considered CC and mods makers more and put more effort for The Sims 4 as a game. Seriously, I feel like EA's efforts for The Sims 4 aren't enough and lack for some aspects. CC and mods make The Sims 4 more interesting and not boring as EA did into The Sims 4 packs.

The Shadowy World of Conversions, Ripping, and Copy-botting: What YOU need to know..

So I wanted to make a kinda "end-all-be-all" post containing info about the legality of conversions, ripping meshes, and those things as they pertain to different sources of content, and what implications this means for sims 4 creators. Here's a cliff notes version that won't involve me lecturing. - It is violating the copyright of IMVU and SecondLife if you use an illegal copybot account to rip meshes from their site and then redistribute them for the sims 4. [PROOF 1, PROOF 2, PROOF #3] - This not only can cause the creators of those meshes to DMCA you or potentially sue you for damages but if those companies find out you violated their policies they will not hesitate to [at the very MINIMUM] ban you from their services. [Same proof as #1] - The creators who create content for those sites (3D modeling sites, IMVU, SL) often require selling those meshes to either greatly supplement or provide the entirety of their income. When you steal from them, you are stealing from their ability to provide for themselves and their families. This is why they take theft seriously, unlike many Sims 4 creators who are doing this as a hobby. - Many 3D modeling sites specifically have rules about what you can and cannot do with their meshes, and have specific rules about 3D worlds such as Secondlife, the Sims, etc. Some allow it, some don't. So check those rules and reach out to their support if you need help. [PROOF] - It is ethically [if not a bit of a gray area legally] irresponsible to use someone's 3D model as a sims 4 conversion without giving the original modeler a heads up about how you're going to use it. Because of how s4s works, there is a risk of people ripping that mesh and reselling it, and the original modeler may not like how you are using their content or have stipulations about how you credit them. Be a decent human and give them a heads up before you convert. [PROOF] - It doesn't matter that Secondlife/IMVU folks take meshes and models from the Sims 4 Game. That's EA's problem to deal with, as they're taking EA's content. If they steal custom content from a sims creator, that creator can file a DMCA with Linden Labs. - Regarding conversions from other sources such as video games, etc it's important to understand that: * Ripping a model for personal use is fine. [I.E learning how a model was constructed, making a 3D printed model for your own use, for personal use in your own sims game] Since you are NOT making money off the end product, the company should have zero beef with you doing this in theory, however, if they CATCH you ripping [ex: you're ripping a model from an online game like GTA online] they may assume you don't have good intentions, so know it's a risk to your standing with them. * Although RISKY, if you are ripping a model from a video game and providing it as part of a free mod/CC, and you are asking for donations/doing early access, MOST video game companies do not seem to have a problem with this. The main evidence for things like this seems to be the amount of cross-over from different games that make their way into games such as fallout 4, minecraft, etc as modded content. [Nintendo is well known for being really stingy with this, so I would recommend NOT fucking around with them. Just FYI.] Again, as long as it's obvious that someone's not trying to PROFIT, it appears that this is okay. It's not exactly kosher, and it's not 100% recommended because legally it's still infringing, BUT, most video game companies do not really see the sense in going after their fans in that way as long as they're not actively trying to profit off the work. [It's kinda in that same gray area as fan art/fan-created crafts. It's a hard line to walk, and you have to be careful doing it.] * If you are ripping from a place that is not a 3D modeling site/video game, and is some other source, it's best to contact the original modeler and get permission. Just to cover your own rear legally.

- Conversions are FINE if they are done LEGALLY and ETHICALLY. There are many simmers (Ex: @syboubou, @joojconverts) who are great at doing ethical conversions. There are people who convert EA's models from one sims game to another or convert someone's cc models from the sims 3 to the sims 4, people who do small conversions from modeling sites as part of a larger work, etc.

But sadly, this conversion frenzy that many "creators" [particularly for the sims 4] have started turning to is not ethical or legal, as some accounts have literally started making absolute BANK off of illegally converting 3D models without remotely checking if they're even allowed to with the original source. This needs to stop BEFORE this becomes a giant legal pain in the ass that ends up hurting ALL simmers (CC creators and users alike). So please, spread the word and help people understand the responsibilities they have when they decide they want to convert content. Again, there's nothing wrong with converting IF you do it right, so please make sure that the "creators" you are subbing to are being ethical about it.
