The really good fics imo are the ones that can swing with their premise and aren’t afraid to actually let their characters act; they don’t sugarcoat actions or lighten blows for the sake of favoritism or shipping or w/e.

Like... fics like “Me & Michael” (spookylives), “do i wake or sleep?” (cainight), “Antihero” (ElysianStars), etc. work for me is b/c they either keep the tone of the original work, keep the characters (reasonably) in-character w/ the premise set-up, and/or it doesn’t feel like everything arbitarily happens for the sake of shipping/because the author likes the character.

#it also helps if the premise is reasonably unique tbh #some people can do gorgeous work w/ a popular fic setting #but sometimes i just wanna read something thst isnt ‘popular’ ya know?
