Leprechaun: Origins (2014)
Tumblr media
Even the worst movies can teach you something. For example, Leprechaun: Origins is such a bait-and-switch and is so poorly made it makes you fondly recall the likes of Leprechaun 4: In Space.
Backpacking through Ireland, Sophie (Stephanie Bennett), her boyfriend Ben (Andrew Dunbar), and their friends Jeni (Melissa Roxburgh) and David (Brendan Fletcher) spot a stone with an ancient symbol engraved upon it. In a nearby town, a friendly local, Hamish (Gary Chalk) invites them to visit a cavern holding the region’s oldest artifacts. They do not that Hamish and his son, Sean (Teach Grant) are leading them towards the territory of a bloodthirsty leprechaun (Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl).
From the first shot, you can tell Leprechaun: Origins will be as easy as swallowing a vault's worth of coins. The camera refuses to stay still and drunkenly wobbles whenever the titular monster makes an appearance. It's impossible to tell what’s happening. Maybe director Zach Lipovsky recognized that his movie’s Leprechaun looks nothing like what you’d expect, and not in a good way. I polled a friend after showing them some clips. They guessed I was watching 1) A werewolf movie 2) a vampire movie 3) a sequel to The Descent. Only after hearing an Irish accent did they guess the Leprechaun series. It’s a good idea to slowly reveal the monster to your audience, to keep them wanting more. This picture takes it too far. There isn’t a single clear shot of the Leprechaun, not one!
Say what you will about the miss-miss-miss-hit rating of the previous six films in the series. At least they had the sense not to take themselves too seriously. They knew no one could ever fear a creature at the end of a rainbow. Writer Harris Wilkinson tries so desperately to play it straight it’s embarrassing. I know you laugh whenever you see a movie’s “monster vision”, particularly when it's filled with weird colours and filters. The leprechaun’s eyesight is so poor it’s a wonder it can walk in a straight line without tripping over its own misshapen feet, much less sneak up on its victims and tear them limb from limb. It’s yet another tactic used to prevent us from seeing the monster as much as possible.
The rest of the film - the so-called twist and the pint-sized beast’s victims - are instantly forgettable. There’s nothing to this story except for the premise and as a prequel, it's an undeniable failure. This is a reboot, not an origin story.
The conclusion doesn’t make sense and if you thought you survived unscathed, just wait. Keep watching. Watch the end credits. All 12 minutes of them. 15% of this film is cards of text telling you who worked on what between random shots of a set. And then, we get a post-credit scene that means NOTHING.
Leprechaun: Origins is the worst of the franchise. At least Warwick Davis was trying. He brought a certain enthusiasm to his role. I don’t even know why they credited Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl as the monster. He has no dialogue and you can’t recognize him. I’ve seen episodes of Goosebumps that were scarier. Only excessive alcohol consumption would prevent anyone from shutting off Leprechaun: Origins more than a few minutes in. (March 17, 2020)

An Interview with Teach Grant, Damnation
An interview with Teach Grant, aka Preston Riley on Damnation @DamnationTV @TeachGrant
https://videopress.com/embed/WJvAhwbq?hd=0&autoPlay=0&permalink=0&loop=0 Teach Grant, who plays Preston Riley on Damnation, was kind enough to answer some questions about his new show, Damnation.  Here’s what he had to say. What made you want to start acting? I suppose beyond childhood plays and a little voice over work for a children’s network, it would have been in high school drama class -once…

Stephen King's It: Chapter Two movie review: Just going to throw it out there, the movie was awesome. The audio and the visuals were beautiful to look at. The CGI monsters created by Pennywise (even himself) were, as scary they can be, magnificent. The portrayals were also consistent and accurate. The kids performed in a consistent manner that it did not even feel like they stopped filming for the second movie after the first ended. The adults were accurate in representing their counterparts in a mature form, well mature might not be the right word for some characters. Nonetheless, they performed amazingly. The story took place in 2016, and it was pretty awesome to see where it went off. The horror aspects of the movie were a bit more subtle compared to the predecessor, but it still provided a good scare. What I mean is that the horror was not the main focus. The movie was more action-oriented rather than relying on horror. The idea was great because it was definitely the theme of the story. Lastly, keep an eye out for more Stephen King reference. I have definitely seen some of them pop up. Overall, the movie receives a 9.25/10. #It #ItChapterTwo #StephenKing #AndresMaschuetti #Pennywise #BillSkarsgard #BenDorough #JamesMcAvoy #JaedenLieberher #BeverleyMarsh #JessicaChastain #SophiaLilis #MikeHanlon #IsaiahMustafa #ChosenJacobs #EddieBaspbrak #JamesRansone #JackDylanGrazer #StanleyUris #AndyBean #WyattOleff #BenHanscom #JayRyan #JeremyRayTaylor #RichieTozier #BillHader #FinnWolfhard #HenryBowers #TeachGrant #NicholasHamilton https://www.instagram.com/p/B2IXr-_gqSL/?igshid=1biycnuvv1o41

The actor playing Henry Bowers in the second 'IT' movie has been revealed
Henry Bowers may not be many people's favourite IT character, but he's still a pretty important one. And as anyone who's read Stephen King's novel will know, his role in the second film is likely to be almost as big as his role in the first.
Anyway, it looks like we now know who'll be playing him.
SEE ALSO: These Stephen King characters all appear in multiple books
On Monday, Variety published an exclusive claiming Teach Grant, who recently appeared in Netflix's Altered Carbon, will be playing the adult version of the school bully.
