28 Arlo/Auggie?? (Maybe modernish au?)
This takes place in my college AU, 6 months later than were we are now!
Arlo had her head on Auggie’s chest, listening to him breathing in and out. Auggie looked down at her, and the hole in her hand. Since meeting her in the kitchen, the hole had never seemed to bug him, like it had bugged everyone else she had ever met. Ever the inquiring mind, Auggie had asked once what had happened. Arlo had given it in the briefest of terms. For now though, she lay with her head on his chest, listening to his breathing.
“Arlo.” He said, “Please.” She sat up and looked at him, eyes wide and sad. “I have to go.” She leaned down and kissed him, softly on the mouth, then his cheek. “You are extremely distracting,” He said, smiling. She smiled right back at him. The sunrise cut across his eyes, making them shine emerald green, more so than they already were. Arlo also had an early-morning class today, so it wasn’t unnatural for her to be up at this hour. It wasn’t unnatural anyway, she thought, lifting her nightgown over her head.
“Are you excited?” She asked absent-mindedly. She had never really thought of her back as beautiful before, but Auggie staring at it, dry-mouthed, was one of the finest sights she had ever seen. She turned her head over her back, and he remembered himself.
“Very. I can’t wait to go back and tell them all the fancy words I’ve learnt. Like…” He struggled for a word he didn’t know. Arlo was still shirtless, silently enjoying the attention Auggie was giving her. “...Hm.”
“Hm?" She repeated, slipping on her undergarments and shirt. She knew she was running Auggie’s few, but something in that was exciting to her. Having some power, even if she, realistically, had none. “Something wrong?”
“Nah.” He said, “Just wondering how I got so lucky.” Arlo smiled and gave him her hand, which he took and kissed gently. “Seriously, what did I do to deserve you?” She smiled and looked down.
“You’ll drive safe, right?” She asked. “Don’t do anything reckless? And you’ll come back.” She said. The last part wasn’t a question, it was more of a statement. You’ll come back. You won’t leave me. You’ll be back.
“Course. Charlie and Howard would kill me if I didn’t.” He said, laughing. At the look on Arlo’s face, he knew this ran deeper. Her fear of abandonment was like a well-worn jacket, and she wore it well, most of the time. This time she just stared at him, the fear evident on her face. “Arlo, I swear. I’m gonna come back. I’ll call you when I get there, yeah?” She laughed, “And every day while I’m there.” Arlo nodded, content with the plan. She pulled on a skirt for the day. “Want me to walk you to class before I go?”
“Dressed like that?” She asked, looking at him. He wasn’t wearing a shirt.
“I thought you liked me without a shirt on?”
“I do, but I like it.” She leaned over and kissed his head. Auggie hadn’t known Arlo had a jealous streak in her, but he grinned.
“I’ll put a shirt on.”

Candela Obscura chapter 1:
Charlotte: "Oh no, I can't tell our lightkeeper that I already know Auggie, what if Candela doesn't want us to collaborate with someone we already know?"
Candela Obscura chapter 2:
Auntie Bee: "Here's my circle: it's the doctor I assisted during the war, my best friend's son and his best friend and maybe partner (who is also crushing on the doctor), who I both consider essentially as my own children, and their Lieutenant during the war which they respect and are fiercely loyal to. Try to separate us, I fucking dare you."

god i cannot express how impressed in general i am with the storytelling that cr is doing with candela obscura but what really strikes me is how evident it is that the storytelling they do is defined by the hearts of those who are putting it together rather than adhering to a specific idea or image of a given story that they want to uphold. there is such a stark difference between the tones of chapter one and chapter two (to the fault of neither, i’ve enjoyed them both immensely because they both happen to hit parts of the supernatural-horror genre that I am so deeply fond of and so happy to see in a real play medium).
there’s the obvious difference in gming styles, matt has fantasy running through his veins and that’s evident in the way that chapter one ends up having a tone akin to something like the scarier episodes of buffy the vampire slayer. spenser outright references mike flanagan in his pre-interview thing and good grief is that so so evident in his narration and the way he emphasizes the themes emerging in the story in the environment of the world they journey through and choices like the letter from sean’s mother that subvert the audiences ability to rely on a character’s perception.
but the energy the groups of players bring to the storytelling is obviously also so important, too. like, even just looking at the groups prior to watching each I probably could’ve guessed which might’ve had a more lighthearted tone. the combination of ashley, anjali, and robbie already would be one i’d guess a more warm/goofy vibe for (not to say they can’t be serious and dramatic, but the tone of the seriousness is still warm and the world that prompts them towards drama likewise feels warm) and laura, despite her propensity for goofs, does tend to be a chameleon with group make ups. likewise i think we all had a certain (affectionate) fear™ when it was revealed that marisha, brennan, luis, and travis would be reuniting in another short form story and that has certainly held up and been incredibly bolstered by zehra’s absolute commitment and immersion into the story (constantly fucking blown away that this is her first real play she’s incredible).
this is all just to say as someone deeply interested in digital storytelling, i am so so enamoured by cr’s commitment to following their own desires as humans telling stories to one another while adhering to the requirements they have as a company. and also if you haven’t you should watch candela obscura, especially now that spooky season is here.

Rewatching chapter 1 of Candela Obscura after being sad about chapter 2 again, and I love the dissonance between Auggie "I've got a gun I stole from a cop??? Is that okay??? If I have a gun???" James and Sean "I pull a grenade out of my ass" Finnerty

A bunch of Random Reasons why I love Professor Howard Mangrove
(cause I just finished ep 3 of candela obscura)
his response to Arlo wanting to see chickens "they're extremely enjoyable! Very easy to kill! :D"
response to literally anything: violence
Discreetly mixing chemicals in some sort of concoction "I'm unsure of our intentions"
*hands Arlo a miniature flashbang concoction* Arlo: where should I throw it? Professor: oh - away
I HAVE A SINGULAR TORCH
plan of action: light a cigarette, charge at the beast with a flaming axe
Definition of calm and pleasant while saying the most batshit concerning lines

Charlotte: I’m going to need a human skull and I can't have you ask any questions why, Howard.
Howard: Only if you also don't ask why.
Howard: *opens a sack and pulls out 7 pristine human skulls* Take your pick.
Charlotte:
Howard:
Charlotte: This one is fine.

Auggie, upon learning Arlo's fiancé disappeared : "So... are you single now ? Like, I don't know... (mumbles, stammers) It's not for me. I'm just... wondering, seeing if, like..."
Arlo, serious as hell : "Well, I'm not single, Auggie, we're engaged."
Auggie, bewildered : "You're engaged..."
Arlo : "You and me. Don't you remember ?"
Your Honor, they're FLIRTING

Honestly, I think Robbie did such a good job with Howard Margrove. He managed to create a character who thinks he's the smartest person in the room and he made it charming (for the viewer) instead of alienating.

with Rajan lighting a candle and prepping a vial of oil, we're inching toward following in the footsteps of the well-dressed pyromaniacs before him, Howard Margrove and Nathaniel Trapp, and going three for three on the fancy educated man in the chapter violently sets something on fire

Since I'm on the subject of Candela Obscura, I must pay respect to the first circle, the Circle of Vassal & the Veil.
My favorite character from this group was hard to pick, as the cast was amazing, but it was ultimately Professor Howard Margrove.
The particularities of his personality drew me in. In Robbie's words, he is "a real creep, a punchy lab wizard scientist." Watching his character go from logical to seeping into madness is so cool in this system.
Robbie's thought of "If you gave a neurotic wizard the ability to land a solid punch" is wild and relatable.
Honorable mention goes to Auggie, who was the sweetest of hearts.
