High School! Zukaang - Valentine's Day
Zuko decided to give him chocolates for the day, he's just coming to terms with his feelings for him, but... Aang's locker is full of candy and gifts.
Every time he gets a chance to give him the chocolates, someone interrupts them with a bigger and flashier gift for Aang. This makes him more and more upset.
At the end of the day, he hasn't given him the chocolates and Aang has bags full of gifts. Zuko no longer wants to give Aang the chocolates because he accidentally ruined them because he was upset.
When Zuko wants to go on his way, Aang stops him and hands him some homemade chocolates, he too has wanted to deliver him chocolates all this time. Surprised and excited, he also hands the chocolates to Aang and he eats them, realizing that they are the first chocolates Aang has eaten even though he has many.
After that, both of them promise what gift they will give to the other on the White Day.

Needing that evening salt
While I thank @nilsh13 for giving me the link to that interview.
I was like “prepare for a ton of salt, take your lemons”  however, I’ve kind of mellowed out a bit because the VA seems to be a really nice person -
and I’ve read the Toyonaga interview recently.
Sometimes, the VA are allowed to interpret the character in a certain way that fits with what the game developpers more or less intended (granted they are the same guys who didn’t hire a continuity guy so...), and sometimes, it fails because direction sucks, because lenses are given and doesn’t match with the content you’re adaptating.
As a result, we have Jp!Rhea and lolcalised!Rhea.
i wonder if inoue will ever make an interview one day about 3H but I doubt it
We start with the infamous
“You don’t have to try it so much (to be the calm and composed person), Rhea doesn’t try, she just is - The essence of Rhea is enough”
Pat no :’(
But... Rhea isn’t calm and composed, Rhea is emotional, pretty much, she’s a bubble waiting to burst and she tries to be calm and composed and keep a facade (more on that later) but, I feel like the “Rhea doesn’t try she just is” might be the reason why lolcalised!Rhea feels detached during certain events, when Aelfric’s attempted Nabatean homonculi Transmutation backfires, when Kikuko Inoue nails the sense of sadness and dread because, uh, a man she just said she saw as her own child basically died here to become a grotesque monster and attempted to replicate her own mistakes.
Rhea tries to be a calm and composed person, she managed to keep up appearances for, apparently, 1000 years, but Rhea is also emotional as fuck.
But... This is where everything falls apart.
“You were given the direction - paraphrasing - to channel your inner Dumbledore?”
It’s safe to assume most people can draw parallels to “Three Houses and Harry Potter”
And Leigh falls in the biggest trap, trying to “play the game and figure out who is who” because, while I think someone replied to an earlier post about the parallel (i’m really sorry when i finally had time to reply 2 weeks had passed and i didn’t want to necropost), but I still firmly disagree, and truth to be told, this is, in a way, what I was afraid of when 3H was announced.
FE is a series that loves to reference itself, so when it was announced that the next game would be set in a school, and Bernie and Dorothea were previewed I grew really afraid that the game was going to have the typical “North American High School AU” and none of the “Fire Emblem” series. We had the recluse, Sylvain appeared to be the frat boy, I was expecting the cheerleader, Ignatz to be the nerd etc etc.
With the HP thing, and “trying to see who is who”, I feel like the localisation team and the VA were trying to look at the game with a special - tailored by them for their own use - lens. I will not say “western” lens, but they were trying to look for things that just... aren’t?
Yes, 3H took inspiration from the latest behemoth who was trending at that time, but it wasn’t HP, it was ASOIAF.
And even then, it is only a flair and a colour scheme.
If Edel isn’t enough, the Golden Deer, with its specific color scheme immediately calls back to the Baratheon sigil (a black stag on a field of gold, when the Golden Deer is a deer... on a field of gold). House Lannister and Arryn are reversed, the Lion isn’t associated to the Red House but to the Blue one, and the Eagle (actually the Arryn sigil is a falcon) leaves the Moon to the Blue House and lands in the Red House. And the Ashen Wolves are... grey wolves on a white field, like this house. IS managed to take animals from traditional european heraldry, but with the colors and the specific animals picked? It’s hard to deny the ASOIAF nod.
Hubert calls the mole people snakes, but it is his own nickname, the death cult has its own name, Agarthans. They never use a snake of their banner, nor refer to themselves as such.
Bar the aesthetics?
IS wanted the monastery to be a nod to FE Jugdral’s Barahra Royal Academy, a place where, apparently, heirs of various nations could study together and form lasting friendships, which were supposed to prevent wars (or at least made former alumnis of said academy sad to fight against each other).
But because FE Jugdral wasn’t released overseas, and someone didn’t do their homework about the series (when Toyonaga is a big fan of the Jugdral saga), the monastery, and its academy, was linked to... HP.
Rhea isn’t Dumbledore. Rhea is an amalgation of Gotoh - the mentor who guides you - and, twist, of Tiki!
If Seteth doubted Billy’s abilities, it is tied to their own nature as a self-insert, Fred doubted Robin when they first met, but then mellowed out. Or, without the avatar angle, when Greil trusts Ike, and later on, Titania, Shinon doubts him until the end (or until you recruit him).
So with a blurred lens, it is no wonder why localised!Rhea is so different from Inoue!Rhea.
Then Leigh continues on with the interview, noting how insecure she is, irl, and how Rhea helped her realise that “sometimes I don’t need to try to be someone else to fit it, it’s okay to just be myself” ...
:/
How can the direction give this impression of Rhea to her VA when Rhea, her character, is the complete opposite?
Rhea tries to be someone else, she laments about it, she cannot be herself, she has to put on a facade and make careful choices and pick certain words as an archbishop, Rhea has to anonymously ask how to tell people she doesn’t like hot tea because she is afraid of hurting feelings, she wants to socialise with people but cannot due to her station and the role she has. Rhea has to pretend to be a guide and a leader to her people, when she only wants her Mother to return to assume this role she thinks she is butchering.
So, doubling Rhea should actually have the opposite effect, Rhea cannot “just be (her)self”! or maybe it’d be an advice Leigh gives to Rhea, the character?
So if you take the blurred lens coupled with the tragic direction given, Rhea’s depth is erased. She is instead turned into the scary fanatic who never emotes, save to raeg, and only wants to rez her mom.
Cute moment though, even if the topic is one I disagree on, where, talking about Rhea’s temper, Leigh says she wouldn’t want to encounter her when she’s stuck in traffic :) (lbr we all know Rhea would pull out the wings and reactor of her DeLorean and fly over everyone, without Billy though, she cannot time travel)
Tl; dr : Imposing doesn’t mean frightening, Leigh and the interviewer watched too much DBZ and ASOIAF (rather, GOT) was the “western” behemoth referenced in FE16, not HP.
The other referenced behemoth was... well, a small series called Fire Emblem.
As always, I’m more willing to cut some slack for the VAs because the industries is more recent than the one in Japan, and/or roles weren’t directed the same way (do you know the guy who dubs Morgan Freeman in Wonder France also dubs the voice talking during Uncle Ben’s ads? Or Bruce Willis is in Martin Mystery?)
But the Directors? No. Games have been imported and translated/localised for several decades now, you can’t pull a “4Kids” anymore on content you do not understand or do not wish to understand, and butchering a character (or misunderstand a character that much) shouldn’t have happened in 2019.
Dub is nice, when it exists, but for now, I’m still going to stick to Sub.

It Feels Better Biting Down — Ch. 1: First Impressions are Lasting Impressions
Tumblr media
Set in a modern bending AU, Roku High and Kyoshi High are rival schools in every sense. When financial troubles cause Sokka and Katara to go to separate schools, their bond and new friendships test the civil and social boundaries that lie behind school lines and familial ties. With new friends Aang, Toph, and Suki, will Sokka and Katara be able to hold their Gaang together, or will they let the fire nation clique's drama split them up for good?
“So are you sure you can get me to class on time? I mean, if I ran, I’m sure I could catch up to the bus.”
Sokka shook his head, clicking his tongue in a ‘tsk, tsk’ sound. “Katara, sister o’ mine,” he said, grabbing his keys from beside the front door. He held it open for his younger sister and locked it behind her. “Remember that one time you were sick and forgot your science project? And I-”
“-stopped for a milkshake on the way to school, spilled it on my lab report, and got it to me twenty minutes after it was due?” she retorted with a smirk, crossing her arms over her chest.
Sokka waved his hand, dismissing his sister’s comeback. “Meaningless details, really. Anyways,” he said, walking over to the driveway. “Do you want a ride or not?”
“I do,” Katara said, following behind him, “but do you honestly think your car wants to get us there in one piece today?”
Sokka gasped and put his arms over his car. The thing he called his baby was a navy hunk of metal that at some point resembled an ‘81 Honda, with scratched up rims, too many dents to count, and a few knicks in the windshield (Katara liked to play a game called “How fast can Sokka drive over speed bumps before his windshield shatters.” So far, she’s seen him take the thing a surprising 45 mph over a bump without damage. She swore it was only a matter of time though.).
He turned his head towards his sister with a pout. “Don’t talk about Tun Tun like that, Katara; it’s rude.” Sokka looked back at his car with a strange sort of fondness that Katara knew only Sokka was capable of displaying. “Don’t listen to her Tun Tun,” he cooed. “You’re beautiful just the way you are.” The meticulously taped up side view mirror slipped from it’s rearranged spot, hanging on only by a fraying electrical wire.
Katara couldn’t help the snicker that escaped her.
“See what you did?!” Sokka said, exasperated. “Now Tun Tun is upset, great.” He opened up the backseat and grabbed his spare roll of duct tape. “Absolutely fantastic,” he muttered, beginning to patch up his beloved jalopy.
Katara walked around to the passenger side, and slid in, placing her bookbag down at her feet. “Can you fix Tun Tun any faster?” she called out.
“While I do appreciate you calling her by her name,” Sokka replied, “Car maintenance on a budget is a careful art that takes time and precision.”
Katara groaned and sunk deeper into the worn fabric seat. She could already feel the embarrassment of being late on her first day. This definitely wasn’t the impression she was looking to give her new teachers, especially coming in on a partial scholarship. “Sokka, I’m going to be late.”
He placed one last piece of tape and sighed. “Alright, alright. Quit your whining. I’m finished.” He hopped in the driver’s seat and threw his tape towards the backseat. Sticking the key in the ignition, he gave Tun Tun one, two, three good cranks before she finally sputtered to life. Katara let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding.
Katara fiddled with the hem of her uniform, a red wrap-around blouse with ornate gold trim. Her other hand unconsciously rested on her mother’s necklace.
Sokka glanced back and forth between the road and his younger sister. It wasn’t unusual for her to lose herself in her thoughts for a moment or two, but under normal circumstances, she would probably be bickering with him over something stupid or giving him some long-winded speech about how he needs to take better care of himself and start thinking about the future or something else dumb and hope inspired and just very Katara.
But today wasn’t very normal.
He didn’t blame Katara for being a bit on edge. Hell, he was, two years ago when he was in her shoes. After Mom had died, Gran Gran and Dad had decided it would be wise for them to hone in on the Southern Water Tribe’s future, specifically Katara and Sokka. No pressure, though.
“So,” Sokka said, clearing his throat and interrupting both of their thoughts. “Are you excited to be going to Roku High?”
Katara shrugged. “I guess.”
Sokka knew better than to let Katara slip back into her own thoughts. “C’mon, Katara. This is your chance to actually get to bend with other water benders, let alone benders in general. You can’t tell me you aren’t at least a little bit excited.”
She sighed. “I mean, I know I’ve been practicing and all. I know that I know my stuff. It’s just,” she got quiet for a moment, searching for the right words. “What if I’m not as good as Dad and Gran Gran say I am?”
“Oh, shut up!” Sokka laughed. “Katara, you know damn well you’re the best water bender in the whole Southern Water Tribe.”
“I’m also the only water bender in our tribe-”
“Besides the point. Look,” Sokka said, pulling up to the sprawling private academy’s campus. “Dad and Gran Gran wouldn’t have given up so much if they didn’t believe in you. I wouldn’t have given up so much if I didn’t believe in you.”
Katara smiled softly at her brother and trapped him in a bone-crushing hug. “You know, when you aren’t being so sarcastic, you’re actually pretty ni-”
“Okay, okay, I get it. Stop being an annoying little sister and go kick some fire bender ass,” Sokka said, prying her off of him. “Go before you’re actually late, you nerd.”
Katara laughed and opened the door, swinging her bag over her shoulder. “Love you,” she called over her shoulder, closing the door behind her.
“Yeah, yeah, love you, too,” Sokka chuckled, putting his car in gear and slowly driving away.
Katara closed her eyes, lifting her shoulders back. She raised her chin, trying to ignore the slight sting of homesickness in her chest as little beads of sweat gathered above her brow. Opening her eyes, she touched her mother’s necklace as she walked up the white stone steps to her new school.
“Nothing will ruin this for me,” she whispered as she entered the building. “I promise, mom.”
__________
“You fucking scream water tribe, you know that?”
A hand slams onto the locker opposite Katara, jolting her out of her thoughts. She pulled her eyes away from her schedule and scoffed. “Excuse me?”
The black-haired teen cornering Katara rolled her eyes. Her silk hair was pulled back into a perfect bun, with two choppy side bangs framing her face. Her eyes and facial features were sharp enough to cut someone. She was a cunning viper, and her lips dripped poison.
“You know, if you’re going to go to a Fire Nation school, you should at least try to blend in, or at the very least, not be so… offensive to our traditions.”
Katara grabbed her books from her locker and shut it harder than she had intended to. “Look, I don’t care who you are and how old of a Fire Nation family you come from, but water benders and earth benders go here too, so lay off.”
“You should watch who you’re talking to,” the viper hissed.
A brunette, petite girl behind her frowned and opened her mouth to say something, but a girl next to her with two buns, bangs, and long black hair held up a hand to stop her before she could get a word in.
“And while other benders do attend Roku,” the girl with two buns said, “Azula is right, it has always been a traditional Fire Nation school. Hence the name Roku.”
“Thank you, Mai,” the viper, apparently named Azula, said. Katara couldn’t tell if she was actually thanking Mai for her input or if Azula was staking her claim to this battle. “You’re wearing Fire Nation colors for a reason, water girl. Take our advice, it’s best if you don’t stand out.” She sized Katara up and down. “Which tribe are you from anyways?”
“Southern,” Katara answered proudly with a smirk, leaning against her locker.
The three girls sneered at Katara.
“How the hell does a peasant from the Southern Water Tribe like you afford to come to Roku anyways?” Azula remarked. “No offense, of course.”
“Azula,” the brunette with the braid interjected, “maybe you should-“
“Shut up, Ty Lee!” Azula snapped at her.
The brunette sunk back in defeat.
A crowd started forming around the four of them, but Katara didn’t pay them any mind. She had a battle to win.
Katara glared at Azula and took a step forward. She picked up her shoulders, staring the viper straight in her eyes. “I don’t know who you think you’re talking to, but this ‘peasant,’” she barked, “is the daughter of Chief Hakoda and the last water bender of the Southern Water Tribe. So I suggest you watch who you talk-“
Azula let out an outraged gasp and blue sparks danced at her fingertips as she raised her hand and mentally cursing her bravery, Katara closed her eyes and said goodbye to this cruel word and-
The impact never came.
Katara opened her eyes and looked up to see a young man with his hand around Azula’s wrist.
“Enough, Azula,” he said quietly, barely above a whisper. “You know combat is forbidden outside of class.”
“I don’t care,” she hissed back, her eyes shooting daggers at him. If looks could kill, it would have been a blood bath.
“Really?” He raises an eyebrow. “Unless you want a demerit and father to find out.”
Azula’s face went ghostly pale and she got quiet. When her palm stopped crackling with electricity, he released it. He locked his golden eyes with Katara’s ocean ones for a moment. While he was probably only a year or two older than Katara, maybe around Sokka’s age, the bags under his eye and the permanent looking scowl on his face aged him further.
“Okay ZuZu,” she snapped. His emotional disarmament seemed to be only of temporary effect. “We’re done here. You can leave us to our girl talk now.”
He rolled his eyes and sighed, turning on his heel. Briefly, he nodded to one of Azula’s friends.
“Mai,” he greeted.
“Zuko,” she nodded back, cracking what could have been, had you squint really hard and looked closely, could possibly be the hint of a smile.
Zuko walked down the hall and the four girls watched him go. As he exited, so did a majority of the crowd, save for a few curious eavesdroppers.
“Now that my brother is done flirting with my friends and playing hero,” Azula said with a sigh, turning her attention back to Katara. “What was I saying before I was so rudely interrupted? Oh, right. Look, water girl, or whatever your name-“
“Katara.”
“Katara.” Azula drew out her name, testing the way it felt on her tongue. “Listen. I don’t know the way it worked in igloo village, but here, things are different. You don’t want to listen, fine by me. But my dad is someone really important, too, so I wouldn’t start swimming in water that’s too deep if you catch my drift.” Azula flicked Katara’s necklace with her finger, smirking at her. “I think we’re done here, ladies.”
Azula pushed herself off of the lockers and the others followed suit.
“Welcome to Roku High, Katara,” Azula called over her shoulder.
_______________
Sokka perked up when his sister opened the door, jumping over the couch to greet her.
“There’s my favorite bender!” He said with a huge smile, walking up to her with open arms. “How was your first day of-“
Katara slammed the door shut behind her and shot him a glare.
“... school?” Sokka whispered.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” she mumbled, pushing past him and heading straight for her room, slamming that door behind her, too.
Sokka walked over to Gran Gran in the kitchen. “Ah, teenagers. You think she liked her school?”

GENERAL DESCRIPTION.
Tumblr media
Caring, loyal and curious. . .amazing qualities for a friend           (   or, perhaps, a lover? ).
He's an outgoing character prone to forget basic etiquette due saying whatever comes to his head first, his spontaneity can often lead him to trouble without meaning for such outcome yet he truly can't help it.
Despite that, he can be a bit aloof and sometimes things will go over his head, not quite connecting the dots. His negative traits mostly consist of daydreaming and overthinking, which eventually leaves him vulnerable and with a clumsy nature.
On the other hand, most of his positive traits are how he manages to think in the bright side of things as horrible as the situation can be, his selfless nature to help those in need and putting everyone before himself.
BACKGROUND.
PRESENT.
Changing schools is always such a hard step, getting used to a new environment and start from zero all over again. Introductions, trying to remember where the classes are taking place but getting lost in the process or even recalling where can he buy lunch, even.
Still, after going through the entire paperwork, Sweet Amorris proved to be an interesting high-school, not once he got bored of it. In there, he met Nathaniel, Castiel, Lysander, Kentin, Armin and Alexy.
After graduating and entering college, Lyle is busier than ever with his studies in Anteros Academy. Although he hadn't expected to cross paths with Castiel—guitarist in a band named Crownstorm with quite the solid fanbase—, and Nathaniel—unexpectedly surrounded by mystery and involved with night activities—, once again, regardless that he barely recognized the pair after four years. Still, he was glad at those familiar faces  ( Alexy, Priya, Amber, Nina and more)  as well as happy he made a good friend at work, Hyun, and acquaintances overall such as Rayan, his teacher.
EARLY LIFE.
As a kid, Lyle was prone to be bullied due to his quiet nature. For a little boy not to be interested in sword fights, play cops and robbers, or even tag was 'too weird' albeit he'd play if he wanted to, just not all the time — he was far more invested in learning how to draw better, or that technique of melting crayon and doing drawings through dots. Cut paper with safety scissors and make creative shapes or sock puppets with those funny googly eyes.   Always willing to try anything related to art and crafting.
It certainly didn't help that in kindergarten, the boy would also be interested in how the girls braided their hair or playhouse, sometimes he'd play with them too and ask how the towel technique that his mom did work ( a cone on her head! How does she do that?! ) — which is why Viktor was quick to befriend him. What made Lyle different caught the ravenette's attention and he soon became a 'knight in shining armor' defending his new friend from bullies.
As time flew by, this blossoming friendship only as time passed by. They'd visit frequently each other's houses and play with handmade masks; Viktor even craved on a tree their names inside a heart due to being close friends. However, not everything was happy memories, unbeknown to Lyle, his best friend came from a wealthy family and Viktor was bound to become a successful heir but as such families, a happy fate did not follow: the ravenette's mother had committed suicide and his father had locked himself within his office, drowning in work whilst leaving his son to raise himself.
All those events caused the pair of friends to make a promise: two kids who sworn to dedicate their lives to those they love. From that point onwards, they parted in different ways and didn't meet until a decade later.
In the meantime, Lyle's personality changed from introvert to somewhat extrovert and befriended in no time a boy with glasses, brown hair in a bowl cut named Kentin plus a flirty girl that knew no bounds named Laeti. These two total opposites of friendships are what shaped him to whom he is today.

Moving out from his previous school was a bit harsh on him, leaving friends and acquaintances behind plus teachers that he admired. Still, Lyle was grateful that Kentin was at least with him ( even if for awhile ) due to feeling less lonely and uncomfortable with the sudden change of atmosphere.
Currently in Sweet Amorris, he’s trying to have a good time and joyful memories to look back as the future advances; yet his stubborn and worrisome nature might bring problems and solutions altogether.

Living for a year with his friend Yukio isn’t exactly his definition of independence but it was a deal with his parents and who is he to judge? Besides, he was sort of forced to attend the same institution and join the photography club because his friend wanted someone close with that knowledge.
Still, there isn’t much Lyle does than avoid being recruited for other clubs and drawing in his spare time.

The reason why he went to Korea was to be a good friend to Hyun whom was facing a bad family situation and mostly watch over him; economy wasn’t good in a big family and his friend would often put his family first and send a big part of his salary to them therefore someone ought to babysit them and that was Lyle.
Except his phone was glitching ( could a phone glitch? ) and a message, a call of help from a distressed person was what lured Lyle to excuse himself from the train station and go towards an adress. If there was something he could do, staying still wasn’t an option for him.
Currently stuck in an unknown appartment, Lyle Darcy curses quietly his softheart and good nature because there’s pressure and expectations set on his shoulders by an unknown group named RFA.

‘ People like that, they could certainly benefit from an extra heart. Much like yours,’   a voice would speak in his head, the pain blinding him as he kneeled on the floor, holding his head and crying, vision blurry that could barely make sense of the scene in front of him.   ‘ A dreamer in the same vein as yourself ought to become a man of action, I believe that’s why you summoned me, isn’t it? Make a contract with me ’.
Words that didn’t make sense at first struck him to his very core, several events in which he settled himself as an observant despite wishing to be a barrier to protect those he cherished and loved, his friends and family. Blow after blow, physical or emotional — Lyle was willing to take it, but was afraid of taking the first step. Therefore, he was always there to act as emotional support for them after whatever event had taken place, to make negative emotions stay away and speak brightly about the future.
Yes, the voice was right. Lyle wanted a change, he wanted to change himself. If that was a persona, his own, and could provide that spark he needed to take a step forward without hesitating or overthinking — then so be it!
“ I accept, ”   tremblings legs stood up as a mask manifested before his eyes, fear vanished and was authomatically replaced by courage and a determination he had never felt before. Hands gripping the mask, a light tug to test the waters. It hurt. But it was a tolerable pain compared to standing on the sidelines and watch.
‘ I am thou, thou art I step into the battefield that lies in wait for you to assume your position, soldier. Raise, and defend those who are precious to you! ’ .
Rippiing off the mask as blood run down his face, yellow hues returned to its green natural color as a blue fire enveloped him, the change he craved for had arrived and it would stay with him.

Sure, they could comunicate through cellphone and e-mails… But things rarely went the way he wanted therefore after tons of paperwork and getting his passport, he went to live to Japan.
Currently, the entire Darcy family is staying with a friend of his named Kobayashi Yukio who is thankful about having company. Besides, he was prone to travel because of his fashion business and needed someone to look after the mansion when they ( Yukio and his parents ) were gone.
