पारंपरिक खेती करने वाले किसानों के साथ अक्सर ज्यादा लागत व कम मुनाफे की समस्या देखने को मिलती है इसीलिए अब देश के ज्यादातर किसानों ने आधुनिक तकनीकों से खेती करना शुरू कर दिया है। क्योंकि नई तकनीकों की मदद से किसानों को खेती में अच्छी कमाई के अवसर देखने को मिल रहे हैं।
ऐसे ही एक किसान है राजस्थान के भीलवाड़ा जिले के सलेरा गांव में रहने वाले शंकट जाट.. जो कि, पिछले कई सालों से खेती करते आ रहे हैं। लेकिन मुनाफे की बात करें तो शंकर ने पिछले करीब 3-4 सालों के दौरान खेती से अच्छी कमाई करना शुरू किया है। जिसके पीछे सीधा सा कारण है शंकर का पारंपरिक खेती से वैज्ञानिक खेती की तरफ मुडना.. दरअसल, शंकर पहले जहां अपने सवा एकड़ के खेतों में हर साल करीब 60 हजार रूपये ही कमा पाते थे। लेकिन अब वो सालाना 4 लाख रूपये तक की कमाई कर रहे हैं।
दरअसल, राजस्थान में खराब मौसम, गर्म हवाओं और पानी की कमी के चलते फसलों को रोटेट कर पाना मुश्किल होता है। जिसके चलते यहां के ज्यादातर किसान फसलों की सिंचाई के लिए मॉनसून पर ही निर्भर रहते हैं। ऐसे में शंकर जाट ने भारतीय एग्रो इंडस्ट्रीज फाउडेंशन की मदद से वैज्ञानिक तरीके से खेती करने की ट्रेनिंग ली। इस ट्रेनिंग की मदद से शंकर ने 1057 वेराइटी के टमाटर की खेती करनी शुरू की। अब किसान मल्चिंग और ड्रीप इरीगेशन की मदद से एक बीघे ज़मीन पर टमाटर उगा रहे हैं. और खास बात ये है कि केवल टमाटर ही नहीं, टमाटर के साथ अन्य तरह के फल भी उगा रहे हैं. इसके लिए शंकर गाय के गोबर, मूत्र, पानी, सत्तू और गुड़ की मदद से ‘जीवामृत’ तैयार करते हैं. और तो और अपनी ज़मीनों को ढंग से इस्तेमाल करने के लिए सिस्टेमैटिक प्लान्टेशन की भी मदद लेते हैं. जहां पहले उन्हें अपने खेतों में दिन में तीन बार सिंचाई करनी पड़ती थी तो वहीं दिन में केवल 20 मिनट सिंचाई करनी पड़ती है। शंकर की तरक्की देखकर गांव के गई किसान अब उनसे मल्चिंग विधि के बारे में जानकारी लेने आते हैं।
