Cold weather in New Zealand from a polar blast. -2C at the orchard. Excellent for orchard management, pest control, re setting the apple buds etc. the sheep are all rugged up in their wool. I will work in the cool cider cave ( 10C seems positively balmy!) #cider #orchard #apples

Putangirua Pinnacles

On the south coast of the Wairarapa, towards Cape Palliser, you'll find the Putangirua Pinnacles.

Be warned, if you don't follow the creekbed all the way to the foot of the pinnacles it is quite the intense uphill walk with lots of steep sections and steps. But you do get to an excellent viewpoint.

I'm also advised, if you want to head into the pinnacles themselves, it is best to do this in summer, as in winter the sun is too low and it's a bit dark in amongst them. For this reason, we kept our distance and soaked them in from afar.

We walked part of the way back along the riverbed to create a loop - this is not a path but literally the riverbed (vaguely signposted - it is 100% allowed & suggested!)

locked tomb has driven me a little bit insane but from skimming the tag I haven't seen much about how New Zealand the books are. not just the language and sense of humour

but both how some of John's story captures some of the feeling of living in NZ and looking over at something like America and that difference and distance

and also for including a dunk on Hamilton in a mainstream novel
