this sounds so pathetic but back in 2022 i broke my glasses and i realized that ive felt kinda ugly ever since. like. more than usual. i couldnt afford an exact replacement at the time so i just got a cheap alternative, but that pair didnt really suit my face that well. so for the past year and a half ive been going back and forth between an older pair that i like better but has an out of date prescription, and using that cheap new replacement somewhat reluctantly in order to see properly lmao.

the weird part is, i didnt even realize until recently that my glasses were the reason why i was feeling so bad about my face? like i would look in the meer and go hm. something's off. must be my rancid vibes. and move on with my day like?? no bitch

anyway, i finally got enough money together to order a new pair of the ones that broke and i am sooo happy rn i could cry

2/10/2022 - 10/17/2022 - 3/19/2024 My boy is already two years old I can't believe it! It feels like yesterday I was still playing the Globetrotter Challenge 😭 There's not a lot that really changes from OG Corey to the second Corey pictured, who I refer to as Canon Corey because he's the one that appears in pretty much all extra content and is his "official look." The biggest changes are the skin details. Back when I made him the first time the only skin detail I had was the Penguin Skin Blend, which got changed to the Cicada Skin Blend. His piercings also changed, and I kind of wish I'd given him more piercings and tattoos during the Globetrotter Challenge. I did add some more to Adult Corey, which is pretty much how he looks in game now/at the present point in the timeline where we left off.

Sorry that turned out really long 😅 I think a lot of people have done this but if you didn't get tagged and want to do it go for it!! 😁

ive mentioned this a few times, but my main fl character, morgan, is both a proud communist and a catholic, and i wanted to find some of the arguments in favor of christian comminism (look im not as well read on theory as my oc is. youve seen my posts. you KNOW i never learned how to read) but i had the damndest time finding any!!! found a lot of pearl-clutching christians saying that communists hate religion and theyre soooo scary so no you cant be a communist and also like jesus. jesus would hate socialism. no, ive never heard of the sermon on the mount, what the fuck do you mean "the meek will inherit the earth"

but i expected that much. i was more disappointed to see a bunch of smug communists saying that religion is a creation of capitalism used to oppress and distract people, and you cant believe in fairy tales if you want to be a real leftist. at best religion is the last refuge for the desperate and oppressed, a way to make the proles feel like they're doing something while actually continuing to serve capital. yes this is also how Adorno talked about Jazz but we will still keep jazz after the revolution because it's good and people find meaning in it, but we wont have religion because i hate my dad i mean christians i mean organized religion at large

but i KNEW there were christian leftist out there because i have MET THEM and also that was tolstoys WHOLE THING so i know its out there!!! you can't trick me!!!!

thankfully i eventually found some stuff, including a new podcast hosted by two guys with phds talking about christianity and leftist politics (one of them is a journalist and the other is a theologian, and they have a lot of criticism of The Church as an institution while also saying that religion and religious people can have some value in the fight against capital)

anyway. that's probably been the most frustrating research rabbit hole ive gone down for this fic!! so far anyway

Have you ever wanted to play as ghosts haunting an old mansion? Our Haunt is a creepy-cozy TTRPG about a found family of ghosts and the haunted home they make for themselves.

It's an easy game to play where your ghosts must be vulnerable to earn tokens, like when the Doll shares a secret that's not their to share or the Betrayed reaches out and hold another’s pain as their own.

With these earned tokens, players can spend them to have their characters perform strong moves. The Faceless can create a perfect mirror copy of themself while the Cat can find a secret passage and describe where it leads.

(Yes, you can play a Cat in this game! My greatest design achievement is when I see folks play the Cat and their natural cat behavior perfectly lines up with several of the playbook moves, hah!)

(As a side note, I talked about The Doll playbook a little bit, as a transmasc designer.)

But another thing you can do with tokens is regain or create a memory. As ghosts you only have a few fragments of memories, that you describe when you make a character. At the end of each play session, the group can spend tokens towards their memories.

Regaining a memory unearths evocative and emotional moments before death, and the game offers you lyrical inspirations to build these. Some of my favorites are city lights through the rain, the crush of broken glass, “Were the stars always this beautiful?” and fingers tracing a tattoo, a sharp intake of breath, “You belong to me.”

Creating a memory instead describes a moment that happens in between play sessions, where your ghosts become more like family. While I wanted players to have a chance to dive into the angst and revelation from when they were alive, I also wanted to offer the joy and happiness that can come from building a new afterlife with a new family.

So creating a memory also comes with inspirations, but they're more grounded, more fun, and suggest a new childhood of innocence the ghosts share together. I drew inspiration from my own queer friendships, which can often feel like we're trying to create the childhood we never got to have as our real selves.

Some of my favorites are we met a shadow that had their own voice. They asked for a name as a gift. What name did we give them? and We threw rocks and trash at the neighbor’s house. How did the ghosts of that house get back at us? Why are we friends now?

I'm really proud of Our Haunt and the care and love that went into the game. Possum Creek Games published this last year and I've heard such wonderful sweet, sad, and creepy stories from players!

something that really bugs me about art history is when it says 'ok and THIS GUY was the VERY FIRST to do this thing isn't that cool! so original of him!' and the thing is like, painting people naturally, or non-representational colours. like.... are you really sure No One At All tried this before? you really think that between the decline of rome and ~1290 no one ever tried to draw a realistic portrait of someone? Ever??

'they didn't know how because their art was PRIMITIVE' like ohhh okay we're using that word are we. a) medieval art isn't lesser for not being as technically good and b) that wasn't as important to them and c) ...life drawing exists. if people could do really detailed and accurate paintings & miniatures of plants and insects then surely they could do people too that can't be that much of a step. like surely there wasnt a seven hundred year period where no one tried. in the whole world. right?? surely someone got their friend to sit still in front of them as they tried to capture their likeness???

especially when realistic sculpture portraits were being made this whole time? and when more naturalistic roman portraits were still there?? you really think it took people six hundred years to try that out?

and the same with nearing abstraction as well 'g*uguin was the first person to put the realm of the imagination in art' IN THE 1880S. WHAT. IMAGINATION. in ART. have you never seen a kid draw?? or like.. anyone draw anything from their mind??? what about all those people painting dragons and angels and miracles and here be monsters? 'non representational colours were new and shocking!' ok that gets a bit of a pass for most of it but like... you really think people spent all of impressionism painting things The Exact Colour They Were? like surely someone thought of that before?? surely there was someone somewhere who did a bit of art for fun who painted, i dunno, a purple tree for fun?

and abstraction as well - you think no one before that ever was just messing around on a page and put some really nice colours together and decided that looked nice as it was??

idk i just get annoyed when people look at art in such a defined and solid way that seems to almost being enforcing limits on creativity by saying that only a few people were even doing new and interesting things. like probably a lot of this stuff did happen and we don't have it anymore but. yeah
