Best Photoshop Software Alternative Mac
Tumblr media
We recently took a look at the Adobe Creative Suite, breaking down when to use Photoshop vs. Illustrator vs. InDesgin, but there’s one glaring fact we didn’t mention: not every designer has access to these programs.
Best Photoshop For Mac
Best Mac Alternative To Photoshop
GrafX2 – Best Image Editing tool to Photoshop Alternative A free image editing tool for all the open source and support Mac OS X and Windows. The GrafX2 used for drawing in indexed colour mode, palette editor, colour cycling, transparency, number of effects and brushes. May 27, 2019  Here are the best alternatives to Photoshop. Luminar is a professional photo editor that provides all the essential tools you need to create outstanding photos with maximum flexibility. Luminar is one of the best Photoshop alternatives for Mac and Windows because it gives you endless possibilities to mix presets, filters, and styles. May 15, 2020  Affinity Photo is the best paid Photoshop alternative, and we particularly like that it has an iPad version. PaintShop is among the best for Windows. Photoshop has been an industry standard for decades, but it’s pricey for those who only use it occasionally – and for those who only use it for basic photo editing. Here is 17 free Photoshop alternative for basic photo retouching or graphic design, and some offer the best of both worlds. It is a low cost, easy to learn alternative to Photoshop. Pixelmator 3 ($30) Pixelmator has, over time, filled in many of the missing elements to make it a true Photoshop alternative. Apr 17, 2020  The Best Photoshop Alternatives for Mac Though Adobe is the major solution for creative software for decades, you don't have to obligatorily use Photoshop. There are plenty of great alternatives! Last but not least Photoshop alternative software supports more than 500 cameras, custom lens and camera profiles. And while Capture One can’t.
For designers who are just starting out, still in school or operating on a tight budget, Adobe Photoshop might be a luxury that you just can’t afford. But if you find yourself in one of these categories, breathe easy; there are several free photo editing programs out there that can deliver close to the same results as Photoshop with none of the added cost.
You’ll probably end up upgrading to photo editing software with a little more power at some point in your career. However, if you need something to work with now and you can’t spend any money, using these free Photoshop alternatives as a substitute can be a lifesaver.
Cross-Platform, Open Source Alternatives to Photoshop
GIMP
You can’t have a list like this one without including GNU Image Manipulation Program, or GIMP to those who know it. There’s a lot to love about GIMP—it features Photoshop staples like layers, masks, gradients, text tools, plug-in support and more. Best of all, it’s open source software with a large community of users, so there are plenty of GIMP tutorials and add-ons out there to help you overcome any of the program’s limitations.
Be aware that GIMP cannot output CMYK files by default, so if you’re preparing a print-ready design in 4-color, you’ll need an additional GIMP plugin with CMYK support.
Gimphoto
If you really need to work in a Photoshop-like environment, Gimphoto is a version of GIMP that imitates Adobe’s layout while still keeping it open source. The menus, terminology, and basic interface have all been tweaked to give Photoshop veterans a more familiar working environment.
Unlike the similarly-interfaced Gimpshop, Gimphoto includes many extra features, such as new brush styles, layer styles, and support for standard Photoshop plug-ins.
CinePaint
CinePaint is deep image editing software that is primarily used in video editing, but it’s also a useful tool for retouching photos because it can work with images of higher color fidelity. A higher quality image produces better results in your print projects, so this might be a program worth looking into.
Inkscape
Inkscape uses a vector-based environment, so it’s a much better option for illustration than most other free alternatives to Photoshop; in fact, it’s almost more of an Illustrator alternative (though it can still be used for basic bitmap edits like photo retouching). The program’s native format is Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), so you don’t have to worry about your project looking fuzzy if you try to resize it. Overall, Inkscape is a great choice for any designer who wants to learn vector illustration on a tight budget.
Photoshop Alternatives for Mac
Seashore
Seashore is open source Mac-only editing software based on GIMP, but with an interface designed to match the MAC OS X aesthetic. The result is a good-looking program that may not exactly be equivalent to Photoshop, but ultimately produces attractive results with ease.
ChocoFlop
The good news is that ChocoFlop is a formidable design tool made exclusively for the Mac OS, and there is a freeware beta version available. The bad news is, the designers decided not to continue forward with the project and will not be releasing any more versions or support for the program. However, it’s still a worthwhile tool, especially with its unique non-destructive image editing capabilities.
LiveQuartz
This simple photo editor for Mac offers multi-touch support and non-destructive filters as well as some essential drawing tools. The newest version of LiveQuartz does cost a few bucks on the App Store, but if you’re really strapped for cash, you can still download older freeware versions.
Photoshop Alternatives for Windows PCs
Paint.NET
Paint.NET might not be fancy, but it has an intuitive interface and plenty of the same features as Photoshop—though you might find yourself missing those features that it lacks. Despite the name, Paint.NET is really best used for photo editing since it doesn’t have many illustrative tools, though it’s also open source with an impressive support base.
Photo Pos Pro
Photo Pos Pro is a freeware program for Windows that’s great for beginners. The interface is easy-to-use, there’s a low learning curve and the software even provides helpful pop-up tips. These are the sort of things that might make a more experienced designer lose their mind, but can be a major boon for those who are just starting out.
Serif PhotoPlus
Many designers look at Serif PhotoPlus as a serious contender with Photoshop. Unfortunately, the advanced version does cost money (though not as much as the Adobe products will set you back.) However, there is a basic freeware version of PhotoPlus that might not have as many features, but still gives you the basics at a comparable quality to Photoshop, along with a simple, user-friendly interface.
PhotoFiltre
PhotoFiltre is an easy, intuitive program for photo editing and manipulation. True to its name, the program has a wide range of filters that make it easy for novices to jump right in and alter their images, but there’s plenty here for the seasoned pros to find appealing, too.
Pixia
Pixia is a Japanese program which has found popularity in the west and has since been translated into English. Pixia was created mainly for digital illustrations (specifically for manga and anime artists), but it has plenty of useful features for design and photo manipulation as well. The biggest downside to Pixia would be the outdated-looking interface, but if you don’t mind your editing software looking a bit “retro,” this may be the right tool for you.
Picasa
Google’s Picasa software might not have the full capacity of Photoshop, but it’s a good program for making last-minute edits. Picasa does have a few unique tricks up its sleeve such as batch editing and photo-management tools, not to mention easy integration and sharing on Google platforms.
Online Photoshop Alternatives
Pixlr
Pixlr is a great online Photoshop alternative, especially if you need to do work when you’re nowhere near your home computer. It has an impressive amount of clout for a program that works in your web browser, and it stands out for having three different levels of editing power to choose from: playful, efficient or advanced. There’s even a mobile app version for designers who are on the go and need to make quick fixes.
Splashup
Splashup is an online image editing program with a clean design interface that’s highly reminiscent of Photoshop. It doesn’t have a ton of features, but it does support layers and pixel-level control. Splashup is a good tool for beginners, especially since it allows for easy sharing on the web’s top photo sharing sites like Flickr and Facebook.
SumoPaint
SumoPaint is another web-based favorite of many professional designers, since it features an interface similar to Photoshop with plenty of the same features. There’s also an inexpensive desktop version available if you don’t want to use it in your browser, and a mobile app for illustration on the go.
Photoshop Express Editor
If you absolutely have to use Photoshop but don’t have access to it, there’s always the browser version, Photoshop Express Editor. Of course, it would be silly for Adobe to give away their product for free, so the online application has limited tools, but it’s a good option for editing essentials from a name that you trust.
Conclusion
They say a poor workman blames his tools, and the same must hold true for designers. Yes, we admit, no freeware program can serve as a complete replacement for a high-end program like Adobe Photoshop. But we truly believe that a creative, clever, budget-conscious designer can overcome the limitations of any program and create beautiful results.
Are there any free Photoshop alternatives out there that we missed? Do you have any advice for working with free photo editing software? Leave your comments below, we’re looking forward to hearing from you!

FAST Noise Reduction With ON1 NoNoise AI
If you are trying ON1 Photo RAW 2021, the ON1 plug-ins, or upgrading from an older version, please consider using my affiliate link. There is no extra cost to you and it helps support ON1 tutorials like this one. Ready to buy? Use the offer code SDP20 at checkout and SAVE 20%!
ON1 released NoNoise AI today, the newest application in their growing lineup of photo tools. NoNoise AI intelligently removes noise from your images while maintaining important detail. It is a solid product and holds its own against other noise reduction software. And man … ON1 NoNoise AI is FAST!
NoNoise AI is available now and retails at $69.99. Use my offer code SDP20 and Save 20%. It runs as a standalone application or as a plug-in to other photo editing applications such as Lightroom, Photoshop, Capture One, and others. NoNoise AI is a distinct and separate product from ON1 Photo RAW. If you subscribe to ON1 Photo RAW, you’ll also receive NoNoise AI in your plans. For perpetual license owners of Photo RAW, reportedly the next major version will include NoNoise AI capabilities.
Key features of ON1 NoNoise AI include:
AI-based Noise Reduction: The noise reduction engine leverages AI to remove both luminance and color noise while maintaining important details. The NoNoise AI engine also accounts for noise introduced by the demosaicing process of decoding a RAW image.
Fast & Easy To Use: NoNoise AI is blazingly fast. Large RAW files load in a handful of seconds and adjustments happen in nearly real-time. You choose the default amount of noise reduction to apply and refine it with a few simple controls.
Save RAW DNGs: RAW photos from over 800 cameras are supported (yes, including Fujifilm!) as well as common image types (JPG, TIFF, etc.). After applying noise reduction, save the results in the RAW DNG format. Incorporate NoNoise AI into your existing RAW workflow, maintaining complete tonal and color range information in your files.
Retouch, Combine & Mask: Retouching, layering, and masking tools are built into NoNoise AI. Correct imperfections on the fly or apply different amounts of noise reduction to different areas of your image with layers and masks.
Batch Processing: Run a folder of images through NoNoise AI applying a default amount of noise reduction, or work through a series of photos individually. Yes, you can copy and paste settings from one image to another.
Standalone or Plug-in: NoNoise AI works where you work. Run it as a standalone application early in your workflow or use it as a plug-in to Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, Capture One, Affinity Photo, Corel Paint Shop Pro, or Apple Photos.
Making Adjustments In NoNoise AI
Whether you launch NoNoise AI as a standalone application or as a plug-in, a default amount of noise reduction is applied when your photo loads. The amount is controlled in the application preferences with Low, Medium, and High options. Medium has worked very well in my testing.
Next, refine the noise reduction with the sliders in the Noise Reduction area on the right side.
Luminance: Control how much luminance noise removed. When adjusting this slider, pay attention to areas of your photo that should be smooth and grain-free.
Enhance Detail: Retain and restore detail in the photo. Watch elements like textured surfaces or animal feathers - anything that should be detailed - when adjusting this control.
Color: Remove splotchy patches of magentas, blues, or greens in an image. Typically, this slider can be set to 100.
ON1 NoNoise AI does an excellent job of removing noise. I have been pleasantly surprised of how well the color noise reduction works without desaturating the colors of my overall photo.
Fine details can be further adjusted with the sliders in the Sharpening area.
Amount: Control the overall amount of sharpening applied. The default is around 20 and is a solid starting point.
Detail: Enhance fine details even further. A progressive algorithm is used, applying different amounts of sharpening based on the size of the details in the photo. This avoids halos and other artifacts from being introduced.
Threshold: Increase to bias the sharpening to the edges of objects.
When your adjustments are finished, click the Apply button. The sliders are grayed out and the retouching, masking, and layering tools are activated for any retouching or blending that may be required. When you’re finished,
ON1 NoNoise AI Vs. Topaz DeNoise AI
ON1 NoNoise AI is a very strong product. I had to see how well NoNoise AI held up against Topaz DeNoise AI, the market leader as far as I’m aware. ON1 NoNoise AI holds it own. Each photo tool renders the initial RAW image a little differently. NoNoise AI tends to be brighter where I found Topaz DeNoise Ai to trend toward lower exposure values. Putting that aside and focusing in noise, both products remove noise very well.
For me, ON1 NoNoise AI has two advantages:
Speed! ON1 NoNoise AI loads images very fast and slider adjustments happen almost real-time. Topaz DeNoise AI took a few moments to load an image, and with each slider adjustment or photo panning change, I had to wait a few seconds for the previews to refresh. My system has a healthy GPU card and Topaz performance improved once I turned on the GPU. ON1 found my GPU and used it automatically. Even with the GPU enabled, the delays caused by refreshes in Topaz slowed down workflow.
Color noise reduction. I found color noise reduction to be more intelligent in NoNoise AI. I can push the color noise reduction farther with ON1 NoNoise AI without artifacts or desaturation. In Topaz DeNoise AI, at higher levels of color noise reduction, other colors in the photo would become desaturated or details would be lost and smoothed out.
ON1 NoNoise AI Vs. Lightroom Vs. ON1 Photo RAW 2021
I also compared NoNoise AI against Lightroom and ON1 Photo RAW. I expected better results from NoNoise AI. I expected better results and sure enough, NoNoise AI produces a much better result than the noise reduction features both Lightroom and ON1 Photo RAW. It was really no contents. NoNoise AI is faster and produces better results.
Summary
ON1 NoNoise AI is a solid product. Excellent noise reduction results at lightning speeds. And it’ll snap into your workflow whether you need a standalone noise reduction application or a plug-in. In my workflow, I’m leaning toward using NoNoise AI at the front end of my editing process, reducing noise, and saving out a RAW DNG file. The rest of my RAW workflow remains the same.
ON1 NoNoise AI is available now from ON1.

Essential Photography Post Processing; A Practical Aproach ##UdemyFrancais #Aproach #Essential #Photography #Post #Practical #Processing Essential Photography Post Processing; A Practical Aproach FREE FOR THE FIRST 30 TAKERS! This is a task-based approach to learning how to correct, retouch, and enhance your photographs in the post processing stage. It's designed for casual photographers as well as serious enthusiasts who are at the beginner or intermediate levels.  It's a practical guide on how to remedy the most common flaws in photographs such as lack of sharpness, abundance of digital noise, distorted lines and shapes, lack of detail, over and under exposure, and so on. There are no long-winded lectures on tools, features, interfaces, panels, and functionalities of the software. Instead, we determine an objective and immediately get into the steps of accomplishing it. We identify a problem with an image, and go right into the process of solving it. Affinity Photo is a high-end program built for professional photographers, designers, and artists, so the performance and features of the software are right there with industry standard applications. HOWEVER, Affinity Photo is much more affordable, practical, and easy to use than these applications! Therefore, it's also an ideal tool -- or the only image editing tool necessary -- for the casual or amateur photographer. It's certainly ideal for you if you're the kind of photographer who prefers to be behind the camera most of the time instead of in front of the computer, but nevertheless use software to enhance your images if required. Finally, the concepts and the approaches to image editing that you will learn are actually applicable to your work even if you're using a different software. The tools and the work-flow may be different, but the concepts and objectives will be the same. 👉 Activate Udemy Coupon 👈 Free Tutorials Udemy Review Real Discount Udemy Free Courses Udemy Coupon Udemy Francais Coupon Udemy gratuit Coursera and Edx ELearningFree Course Free Online Training Udemy Udemy Free Coupons Udemy Free Discount Coupons Udemy Online Course Udemy Online Training 100% FREE Udemy Discount Coupons https://www.couponudemy.com/blog/essential-photography-post-processing-a-practical-aproach/

A day in the life of a Surrey Property Photographer - January 3rd
01:45am
I'm woken by the calls of my three year old son 'Daddy!, Daddy!!' ....
'It must be morning' I think to myself. The I look down at my watch and realise.. No.. my son just 'thinks' it's morning. I head to his room passing my wife on the landing who is nursing our 2 month old daughter and let him know that as much as I enjoy seeing him, it's 01:45 in the morning.. and he REALLY needs to go to sleep! He's very good and he does exactly that.
04:45am
He's up again but its only a little earlier than he usually is so I get him up and head down to get him ready for nursery.
As sad as it sounds I'm so excited to be back out shooting today. I literally adore what I do. Even after 10 years of shooting houses I've so many ideas for 2018 and can't wait to get out 'in the field' shooting again.
07:30am
Ok it's really very windy this morning. I'm out walking the dog and we're climbing over branches on the paths around Farnham Castle. I check the BBC weather forecast. Hooray sun! but wait check out those winds!
09:15am
I'm all packed up and I'm off! I've fire (and coffee and toast) in my belly and I'm ready to shoot some houses. I'm in Haslemere this morning. I'll be collecting keys from the estate agent and heading into the property just off the High Street. I do love the drive to Haslemere. Once you get around the Farnham one way system it's a lovely drive across Lower Bourne, Frensham, Churt, then up through Hindhead and past my favourite place 'The Cookie Bar' before heading down the hill (and losing all digital radio reception to 'Kerrang! radio') into Haslemere.
09:55am
I collect keys, have a chat with the agents and catch up, then head over to the property. Despite having keys I also knock first then upon entering say 'hello!' a few times very loudly. I do this just incase someone is actually in. It's a two bed property and it's absolutely beautiful. It's been incredibly well dressed and everything is ready for me to just shoot.
I love properties like this as it means I can literally concentrate on getting the shots right rather than worrying about tidying or moving too much stuff. Anything I do move I make sure I put back exactly where I got them from. In a property like this that would just be tooth brushes, toilet rolls, and branded items like shampoo etc. which I place in the bath (incase any of the liquid items are leaking).
10:30am
The clouds are moving very fast with the wind. What in turn that's doing is bringing the sun in and out every few seconds so I'm experiencing 4 or 5 different variations of colour and light inside a room within just a few seconds. That type of thing used to annoy me a lot, but now I think of it that I can pick between 5 or so different looks to a room within a few seconds. I find thinking like that brings more exciting possibilities.
The agent mentioned to me about an amazing log burner in this property. Straight away I can see exactly what they mean. It works so well with the decor. The green walls with the creams chair and log burner compliment each other beautifully.
They said the burner 'looks fantastic' lit. Without the owner present I really don't want to be lighting fires in peoples houses so instead I'll put in it when retouching later with 'Affinity Photo'
Straight away on the back of the camera I liked the way the light from the window was coming across the chair and log burner I liked the shadows being cast but I knew when I retouched them later they would become a bit more extreme as I have my camera screen set to flatten tones out a bit (plus I can see whats happening  from the histogram). So I add two flashes set up in the room as below.
Another feature shot that caught my eye I ended up shooting handheld.
Well... actually that's not quite true. I shot it on a tripod to start with but then I moved further back and zoomed my lens to correct perspective in camera. This shot was all about available light. Every time I saw the sun come out this one section of the bed and the colours of the headboard just popped! So I waited... and waited.. and finally the clouds moved and the sun came out for a few seconds as which point I used the table at the back of the room to steady the camera, I took down the aperture to decrease the depth of field in the shot and focus on the view to the small section I was trying to show.
12:30pm
The property is located right next to some amazing fields and a few plaques of Haslemere historic relevance. There's no harm whilst I'm here shooting these, you never know how they may help the agent and it literally takes me a few minutes to shoot.
2:00pm
Back at home after some lunch I load up the RAW files into Capture One Pro and begin work...
I open the images and make some notes using the 'annotations' function which is new to Capture One Pro 11. It's basicaly a layer I can turn on and off and makes sure I don't miss anything during the retouching process. Many photographers do this but I have to give credit for me doing it to an illustrator friend of mine who does it with his illustration work. He has an incredibly strong workflow, and I love borrowing ideas from other creative dissaplins.
3:30pm
When I've finished in Capture One I export the 16bit TIFFS (I export in 16 bit because I'm working with lots of gradients of colours, having a higher bit rate reduces the chances of colour banding at this stage) and add the fire to the log burner using Affinity Photo before 'proofing' the images and finally exporting them as 16 Megapixel 8 bit Jpgs for the client.
4:15pm
I step away from the computer and rest my eyes before coming back and checking the images one more time.
5:00pm
I pretty happy with the pictures so I upload to the client galleries and send a copy to the agent and a copy to the owner of the house.
7:20pm
I get a lovely email from the home owners letting me know they've recieved the images and that they love them. This makes my day.
7:30pm
I make some bookings then shut down the computer for the night. A good first day shooting for 2018 and looking forward to my next shoot on Friday. Join me on Saturday when I'll be sharing another day as a property photographer in Surrey.

Affinity Photo Workbook launched
Introduced with a discount of 25% , valid until the end of November 2017, the Affinity Photo Workbook is the only official companion to the photo editor from Serif.
Available in English and German, the Affinity Photo Workbook joins the Affinity Designer Workbook as a must have tool to users of Serif’s new programs. I received a note from the company last week, inviting me to buy the book, which I did immediately, as I did for the Affinity Photo editor in December 8, 2016, when it was launched for Windows. The same note mentioned that “to celebrate its release until Thursday, 30 November we are offering a 25% launch discount, meaning for the first week you can purchase a copy for just $36.99 (+ shipping and handling).”
My copy of the book arrived yesterday afternoon, and only today, after browsing through the pages, I write this note about its availability. There is still time, if you’re really interested, to get the Affinity Photo Workbook at a special price. Even if you don’t get it now, if you’re a Affinity Photo user, I believe you should get the book. No matter how much information is available online – and Serif has a lot of videos and info explaining the program – nothing beats having a book on your desktop, always available to open and read.
Getting the book in my hands felt as exciting as when I got my manual for Aldus PhotoStyler SE (or Special Edition) which was, as far as I remember, one of my first photo editors, along with the shareware Paint Shop Pro – which I paid for, as I believed it made sense. Aldus PhotoStyler, from 1991, was the first 24 bit image editor for Windows – running on Windows 3.0 –  and the SE edition was usually distributed with hardware. Aldus PhotoStyler was the main competition to Adobe Photoshop, and in 1994 Adobe bought Aldus and put an end to PhotoStyler.
I picked my Aldus PhotoStyler manual from the bookshelf and placed it besides the Affinity Photo Workbook, for a photo that also has a cat tail, as Yellow, the family cat, decided she wanted to be in the photo. This trip down memory lane made complete sense for me, because buying this book made me relate to the excitement it was to discover PhotoStyler some 25 years ago. Comparing the manual for PhotoStyler, with 186 pages and small illustrations, and the 488 glossy colour pages filled with more than 600 illustrations and app screenshots, reveals how much everything has changed since the first image editing tools made it to the market.
The book, though, is much more than a guide to the features the program offers. App developer Serif has commissioned professional photographers and digital artists from around the world to create 16 projects which will help readers make full use of the unrivalled range of tools available in Affinity Photo on desktop. The projects are split into Enthusiast, Commercial and Creative chapters, supported by free downloadable resources including the original imagery, project snapshots for reference and final project files, allowing users to follow along and recreate the work.
A 48-page hands-on Core Skills section allows users to familiarise themselves with the essential photo-editing techniques the pros use. There’s also a 68-page guide to the user interface of the desktop app, including panels and toolbars.
More than 600 illustrations and app screenshots add to the high-quality look and feel of the book. As an added bonus, for users of the app on Mac or Windows there are five tear-out card keyboard shortcut ‘cheat sheets’ on sturdy card for easy reference.
Ashley Hewson, Managing Director of Serif, says: “The Affinity Photo Workbook really is an essential companion to the app on Mac and Windows, and puts the ability and knowledge of professionals at the fingertips of every reader. “Rather than an A-Z manual, it’s designed to inspire users to create their own unique work in Affinity Photo, by taking inspiration from some amazing projects and advice. Because it focuses on professional skills and techniques, the Affinity Photo Workbook will still be completely relevant even when updated versions of the app become available.”
To help boost your productivity Serif also included five keyboard shortcut cheats sheets in the back of the book. They include shortcuts for both the macOS and Windows version of Affinity Photo and can be torn out and kept aside for easy reference!
Highlights of the Affinity Photo Workbook include:
Enthusiast photo-editing with adjustments, masks, HDR and Black and White techniques.
Innovative solutions to challenges in night/day urban photography.
Recreate Affinity’s iconic Photo panorama for yourself.
  The popular double exposure effect.
  Professional food and model retouching.
Pro compositing techniques for greater realism.
Create and apply raster hair brushes.
For the first week of sale, until 30 November, the Affinity Photo Workbook is available priced £27.99 / $36.99 / 32,99€ only from the Affinity website. The new publication follows the sell-out success of the Affinity Designer Workbook, the official companion to Serif’s graphic design app, which was published a year ago. As an added bonus, Serif is also discounting the Affinity Designer Workbook by the same amount. The usual price will be £37.99 / $49.99 / 44,99€.

Affinity Photo for iPad announced
Affinity Photo for iPad was unveiled today during an exclusive presentation segment at Apple’s keynote event in San Jose, California. The app is available to download, with a special price of $19.99.
Affinity Photo is already the choice of thousands of professional photographers, retouchers and editors around the world. Now Affinity Photo for iPad redefines photo editing once again – to create an ultra-fast, powerful and immersive experience at home, in the studio or on the move.
Attention to every detail has been at the heart of the approach to developing the iPad version of Affinity Photo, as Ashley Hewson, Managing Director of Affinity Photo developer Serif, explains.
“Each tool, panel and control has been completely reimagined to optimise for touch – either with fingertip or Apple Pencil,” says Hewson.
“All rendering, adjustments and filter effects have been fully hardware-accelerated. The result is a genuinely unique new way to interact with your images and your iPad, with performance you’ll find hard to believe.”
Affinity Photo for iPad draws its heritage from the award-winning Mac version; renowned for its sophisticated tools for enhancing, editing and retouching images in an incredibly intuitive interface.
Professional features never seen before on iPad include:
Optimised for iPad capabilities: Multi-touch UI, Metal accelerated, intuitive Apple Pencil support andfull iCloud drive integration.
Complete retouching tools: Including dodge, burn, clone, blemish, patch and red eye tools. You’ll also find an incredibly accurate inpainting brush along with full frequency separation capability.
Non-destructive adjustments: Correct and enhance images with Levels, Curves, Black and White, White Balance, HSL, Shadows and Highlights and over a dozen other adjustments that are previewed instantly and can be edited any time. Adjust, readjust, and drag and drop onto any layer, group, mask, or in any place in a stack to control how they’re applied.
Super accurate selections: Critical whether cutting out objects, creating masks or selectively applying adjustments. Affinity Photo’s selection refinement algorithm is one of the most advanced available, making selections—even down to individual strands of hair—easier than ever before.
Comprehensive Liquify Workspace: Push your images around with your fingertips or use brushes like turbulence, pinch, punch and twirl in a dedicated liquify persona. Alongside a real-time mesh warp tool, it’s perfect to reshape, sculpt and deform photos.
Real time effects: Affinity Photo comes with a huge range of high-end filters including lighting, blurs, distortions, tilt-shift, shadows, glows and many more. Full control is given over every aspect of a filter’s properties with incredibly precise controls—all the while seeing a real-time live preview of the result. Best of all, filters can be applied as live layers, enabling you to edit, erase away, or mask effects after they have been applied.
Comprehensive RAW editing: Develop camera RAW files in a dedicated built-in workspace with all the processing adjustments and corrections you need.
Unsurpassed file compatibility: Unrivalled PSD support plus all the standards including PNG, JPG, TIFF, EPS, PDF, and SVG.
Work in any colour space: RGB, CMYK, LAB, Greyscale. End-to-end CMYK workflow with ICC colour management, and 32-bit per channel editing.
HDR Merge with tone mapping: Allows you to merge multiple exposure brackets together into a single unbounded 32-bit image, with full tone mapping control for incredibly dramatic results.
Whether you’re working on iOS, Windows or Mac, the back-end engine of Affinity Photo is the same. This means 100% perfect file compatibility, including shared undo history.
Affinity Photo for iPad delivers so much more than pure photo editing. As well as being able to handle unlimited layers, there’s a full library of adjustment layers, layer effects and live filter layers to choose from. Text tools with full advanced typography options, and vector drawing tools are available too, while all layers can be grouped, clipped, masked or blended together to enable the creation of specular compositions.
The software was announced today during Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference, and is now available for purchase. Compatible with iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch, it’s priced at an introductory discount of more than 30 per cent – £19.99 / $19.99 / 21,99€ from the App Store. After the introductory offer, Affinity Photo for iPad will be priced £28.99 / $29.99 / 32,99€.
