While I was reading Blue Exorcist I didn't fully register just how dark the Illuminati arc was, but watching it animated... holy shit.

I could not imagine going through what Izumo has and is going through. And being in the place of any of the other students? Dealing with unkillable regenerating zombies speaking to me in broken up bits saying they want to go home? Having so much pressure to do things most adults wouldn't be able to do? AT 15 YEARS OLD??

I feel like this is the turning point for the series bc it goes from "heehoo funny with epic fights and some character bonding" to "everyone you love is going to die if you don't fight right now. This world is bleak and horrifying under the thin veil we have created and the fate of it rests on your shoulders, all of you."

#this kitten season has been rough lately #all of the stray babies born in april are sick and dying #and so there's been a lot of death happening at the clinic #but its genuinely amazing to see how much better they do with another kitten #or with their mom or with a foster to cuddle and hang out with them #as important as medication and treatment plans are so is comfort #im overnighting a little spunky girl named spitfire currently #and she's improving with meds and fluids of course #but she isnt resting as much as id hoped which she absolutely needs to do to get stronger #so i just laid down with her wrapped up in a blanky on my chest and she slept immediately #she was so much more comfortable cuddling with me than sleeping in a crate with a heat bag #shes one whos mom was likely poisoned and is semi paralyzed so she finds it hard to get cozy #i was just happy to see her sleep #anyway im on a tangent now #but long story short: comfort is so fucking important in animal care and rehabilitation #and as grim as it sounds its also nice for them if they end up passing away #because at least they had comfort at the end #shelter posting #animal death

What a fantastic episode of SxF! I’m impressed! Lots of really cool shots and framing to show Yor’s hesitation about her job! Olka, Zeb and Gram finally made their anime debut and they were great.

The fact that this episode only has two key animators and one 2nd key animators makes it even more amazing! I hope this quality remains for the rest of the arc.

winter 2024 first impressions: sasaki to pi-chan

it's way too early so i'm not saying anime of the season but i am saying holy fucking shit

tl;dr well that escalated quickly

picked this up for sugitan and all i knew going in was it would involve a salaryman and some sort of magic bird? which technically yes it is certainly about a guy and his bird

but it is also extremely more than that! it's isekai in a way that feels very fresh to me (the bird is the one who was isekai'd into our 'real' world plus there's a lot of travel back and forth between the 'other' world and 'our' world so in a way it almost feels like isekai in both directions, and the bits of sasaki basically starting up a whole business of trade in the new world are fascinating to me, love seeing that sort of thing)

and after watching the first ep i peeked at the show info and saw it tagged mahou shoujo and even fucking? battle royale?? as well???

(though that info is user-submitted so time will tell how accurate it is)

there was a lot, i mean a lot, packed into this double-length first ep. but the pacing didn't feel rushed to me at all! it moved along at a nice clip, but never made me feel like there was too much going on
