Revered Irish Linguist Damian McManus notes that "As far as I know ailm is only attested once outside the Briatharogaim and letter-name contexts, in the King and Hermit poem: caine ailmi ardom-peitet 'beautiful are the pines which make music for me' If the translation is correct the arborealists may be right, but the poet himself might have been one." The possibility has been kicked around linguistic circles that the letter is representative of the sound "AH" such as a cry or scream based on the kennings associated with it. Personally I think its possible it could be a play on OI ainm(m) (or even possibly the victim of a poor transcription) meaning 'name; reputation, repute, renown; (grammar) noun'

Ok I haven't read harry Potter in a long time but didn't the books say Sirius's animagus was a grim?? I love the black dog headcanons and ik the grim is alot like a black dog but his animagus ISN'T a black dog?

A grim is a magical creature whose appearance means death. They have larger claws and ardam more sleek and hound-like (atleast according to the movies and basic definition).

I love the black dog hc's but why are we not appreciating Sirius for having a magical being as an animagus. We've literally never heard of a magical being animagus before. He could very well be the first ever wizard to have a grim as an animagus.
