I had so much fun creating this #linework illustration coloring page for the 23rd Audre Lorde Brunch happening tomorrow by @fenwayhealth you can find this and other amazing resources in the annual resource guide! Through the illustration of these coloring pages, I hope you may see a reflection of connectedness and community either in yourself or in passing memories. Spaces are left open for you to add your own interpretations through lines, squiggles and dots. Feel free to think of all of the ways of beings you want to see in the world and add those to your coloring pages through affirming words/text. The key word that came to mind for me as an artist as I created these pieces to share with all of you is “Resilience”. I had a project for #artschool About addressing social issues. Because there are so many at hand. My pieces are inspired by Black Churches which often times stood as the place where BIPOC could speak their truth and organize against injustices. Often on Sundays church fans depicted meaningful positive representations of blackness and our faith and love for each other. So this is my interpretation of issues that impact my personal life and community at large on a regular basis. Down the street from my house I am bombarded with community members who are struggling with drug addictions and it imposes a health and well being crisis in my community. Used needles, human waste and I can't even take my son to the dentist with feeling alarming discomfort in conjunction with Covid-19. Affordable Housing is laughable in the city of Boston at times.
