Day Fifty-seven
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rains yesterday evening managed to carry on solidly through the night and well into the morning today, so rather than get everything soaked I had a chill start to the day waiting them out, allowing me to finally get up and underway a little before noon. No need to rush!
Along the trail over the now swollen River Garnock, it's a gentle ride into Irvine through some pretty memorial gardens and around the local golf course, before rolling down past the harbour to take in the beach view at the end of the River Irvine.
With ideal timing, the sun emerges as I take in the view here. Should hopefully be a good day!
Following NCN Route 7, it's more very welcome off-traffic riding as the trail dollows through some lovely gardens and woodlands, before swinging back down to the shore at Troon.
A bite to eat is had at Barassie Beach, then the ride continues around the harbour and continuing south.
The cycle path runs alongside the A79 for a stretch past Prestwick Airport, before heading down through the town itself.
I spy Ayrshire Cycle Services on the ride through, and having had my bike's bell damaged at some point in the Highlands I take the opportunity to stop off for a replacement and to top up my tyre pressure.
I'm not sure exactly when the bell actually broke, but as it's been all road riding for weeks it hasn't been needed or noticed. Now I'm back in the land of dual-use cycle and pedestrian paths, it's an invaluable piece of equipment and I'm glad to have it back to save me having to constantly slow down and ask people to excuse me!
On from Prestwick, it's along some juddering coastal paths into Ayr, where I have another stop to get some more gas for my stove.
Back on the bike, it's down to the beach for a lovely long flat ride along the promenade, with some great views over the water.
The clouds are starting to gather a little by now, but they don't look too horrible for now, and a cooler day makes for easier work.
Which is necessary, as a little further after crossing the River Doon I come to the end of this great section of cycle paths and it's time to hit the A719 to continue up and over the cliffs further round the coastline.
The climbs up aren't too much fun with the busy traffic, but after a couple of days of easy riding and with gentler gradients, the legs are in good shape to slog up and over them.
As the road climbs higher it does at least being some beautiful views across the Firth of Clyde and I can see the end of the Kintyre Peninsula across the water. This is far easier work than being back there!
Continuing on up to Dunure, the air has turned misty with moisture but can't quite bring itself to rain down properly. With it hitting rush hour, I don't relish the thought of the road being even busier, so take a bit of shelter to have a good spot of dinner to wait out the worst of it.
By 6pm, the road has quietened significantly, so it's off once more, around the corner with a lovely view of the woodland hills ahead and Culzean Castle overlooking the coast.
There's some more hills to climb up as the road passes through the castle estate with its plentiful trees, and some bone-juddering road surfaces on the next downhill announce the arrival into Maidens.
With it starting to hit 7pm I'm feeling it's time to find a spot for the night, so uphill out from Maidens and a little further down the road is a turnoff to quickly stop by at see Turnberry Lighthouse, before a little backtracking allows finding a lil patch of trees off the golf course to pitch up and have a nice lie down.
After a few very soggy nights, I'm hoping the rains will relent tonight to allow the tent to finally get a little dried out, but we'll see what happens!
TTFN!

The End of the Summer by Leanne Boulton Via Flickr: © Leanne Boulton, All Rights Reserved Sunset shot from Barassie Beach, Ayrshire, Scotland. Captured handheld a couple of weeks ago but posting today, the last day of meteorological summer. Here the sun sets of the Firth of Clyde leaving the Isle of Arran and Goatfell nothing more than a silhouette. Enjoy!

The Setting of the Sun by Leanne Boulton © Leanne Boulton, All Rights Reserved Captured on Barassie Beach, Ayrshire, Scotland, with the sun low behind the Isle of Arran. A similarly beautiful sunset last night too but I left the camera at home and instead took to the beach to pick litter instead. Removing just a few pieces of plastic from the beach or strandline is deeply rewarding. Microplastics plague our environment. They are in the water we drink, food we eat and the air we breathe. Microplastics have been found in our lungs, our bloodstream, our brains and in foetuses too. Despite the first full on sunny spring day falling on a bank holiday weekend, there was surprisingly little litter to pick last night. A surprising but pleasing result. Please remember to only ever take to the beach the things which you are willing to take home with you afterwards. Wishing you all a fantastic weekend of photography. Stay safe everyone. https://flic.kr/p/2orRfAN

Vasco da Gama Racing Club
founded on August 21, 1898 by a group of oarsmen. Inspired by the celebrations of the fourth centenary of the discovery of the maritime route to the Indies, which took place in 1498, they christened the new association with the name of the Portuguese hero who achieved this achievement, the navigator Vasco da Gama.
Despite being founded as a "regatta club", consecrated in rowing as one of the greatest champions of the country, Vasco da Gama still covers other modalities like athletics, beach volleyball, basketball, sand soccer, among others, having as more traditional sport the soccer. The colors of the Vasco have a strong significance: black refers to the unknown seas of the East, crossed by Vasco da Gama, while the white of the diagonal strip refers to the route discovered by the admiral. In addition, these are colors that fit the idea of a communion of ethnic groups (since it was the first club in Brazil to fight racial and social prejudices), having been the first in the history of Brazilian sports clubs to have elected a president "not white" (in 1904, at a time when racism was common practice in sport, the Basques had the honor of leading the mulatto Cândido José de Araújo to the club's highest step). The Cross, the main symbol, has a strong religious aspect, because the Military Order of Christ was both religious and warlike.
It is the only two-time Rio club in intercontinental soccer tournaments of great historical importance (1953 and 1957). In 1953, Vasco won the Octagonal Rivadavia Corrêa Meyer Tournament, an official competition of the CBD, organized with the support of FIFA manager Ottorino Barassi, successor competition of the Rio Internacional Cup, treated in Europe as an edition of the Rio Cup and aimed at the 4 big clubs in Rio. At the 1957 Paris International Tournament, Vasco entered History as the first and only non-European club to defeat a UEFA Champions League champion since the first title of this European competition (defeated by Real Madrid on June 13, 1956 ) to the 1st Intercontinental Cup (on July 3, 1960), with the 1957 Paris Tournament final being considered by the French press as the final between the European champion and the team considered the best in South America in a performance that charmed the French public and the press, with Vasco and Brazilian football playing in front of the European and world public.
It is also the only two-time South American club in Rio de Janeiro, winning the only competition recognized by CONMEBOL as a precursor of the Copa Libertadores de América, the South American Championship of Champions of 1948, in a status equivalent to that of the Libertadores. Supercopa das Campeões da Liberadores (competition reserved for the champions of the Libertadores) in function of the title of 1948; and the Copa Libertadores of America of 1998 (conquered in the centenary year). In South American titles, Vasco would still win the Copa Mercosul in 2000. Vasco is until today the only club in Rio de Janeiro to have won two editions of disputed competitions with the goal of nominating the South American champion in 1948 and 1998.
In national titles, Vasco won four Brazilian Championships in 1974, 1989, 1997 and 2000, a Brazilian Cup in 2011, several official state titles (several Rio Cup championships, and Municipal, Extra, Start and Lightning tournaments) and 5 official interstate titles (3 Rio-São Paulo Tournament, 1 Rio-São Paulo State Champions Cup and 1 João Havelange Tournament). He also won several national and international tournaments.
Vasco da Gama still has, among his idol squad, the top scorers in the Brazilian Championship of all time, with Roberto Dynamite, the largest, with 190 goals, followed by Romário and Edmundo, with 154 and 153 goals respectively. The first great idol of the club was striker Ademir de Menezes, who led the memorable "Expresso da Vitória", becoming the top scorer of Vasco with 301 goals scored, number only surpassed by Dinamite and Romário decades later.
According to research conducted by Paraná Research at the request of Globoesporte.com in 2016, Vasco has the fifth largest fan in Brazil, with 4.5% of those interviewed with a margin of error of 1.50 pp, tied technically in the fourth place with Palmeiras .
On July 2, 2007, the then governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Cabral Filho, sanctioned Bill # 5,052, which created the Day of the Vasco, a commemorative date that honors the founding of the club.

Home Sweet Home
flickr
Home Sweet Home by Leanne Boulton Via Flickr: © Leanne Boulton, All Rights Reserved A quick landscape shot from Barassie Beach, Troon, Scotland. An imperfect handheld shot, with some blown out highlights and a shallower depth of field than I would really like. I haven't picked up my camera in months, I am ashamed to admit, not at least with the intention of photographing something specific - and I am far from being a landscape photographer! I can't believe that I now live just 1 mile from this view! A sea view being well outside of my price bracket but just 1 mile is close enough to call this home. The sun was on it's way to setting with some gorgeous crepuscular rays over the Firth of Clyde, the Isle of Arran and the majestic outline of Goatfell. Off to the right was a storm cell and some huge downpour rainbands which I have captured in some other shots to come in the future. It was hard to believe that the two scenes were in the same place - it looked apocalyptic to the right of frame! I put my back out again crouching for this shot but it has been in a bad way since moving day. More physiotherapy required but despite that and the imperfections in my shot, it feels like a lovely view of my new place in this beautiful world of ours. Enjoy.

Seeing the Light Brief. Shoot 2.
This ‘Seeing the light’ shoot took place at Brassie Beach, Ayrshire. Barassie is a long, wide and mostly flat, sandy beach, although its expanse depends largely on the tide. At low tide there is a vast area for taking images, but when the tide comes in, water covers most of the beach. I had to take this into account when planning this shoot as its a very open location meaning most of the shots shall be in direct or harsh sunlight. I used my canon 5ds body paired with my 70-200mm f/2.8 lens allowing me to create distinction from the background for this subject. To help stop harsh shadows and unevenly light on the sitter I took a reflector as well as a diffuser to help project soft light upon the sitter.
*All images have been reduced in resolution to allow upload to Tumblr.
Tumblr media
Above is a contact sheet created of the full shoot with some images been taken out of the final selection, leaving my favourite four images from the shoot.
Tumblr media
This was one of the first images I took of the sitter for this shoot. It was taken in sunlight with the light coming from the left hand side of the sitter.
Tumblr media
This second image was taken with the use of a diffuser off to the right hand side of the sitter to help reduce the amount of harsh shadows projected onto their face.

Pettitte and Granderson cheap football jerseys online
Johnston later concluded: "When I was a kid I dreamed of wearing the green and gold of my country. But could I accommodate international duty 20,000 kilometres away and still hold down my place in the First Division? cheap authentic jerseys china After all I'd been through I decided against taking any course of action which might jeopardise my position at Boro." If it was a ruthless, career-driven choice, Johnston was not alone in making it. His countryman Tony Dorigo would similarly opt for his country of residence over that of his birth, representing England at the 1990 World Cup. Perhaps it's the fact that Johnston never went on to represent the full England team that so miffs Aussie football fans, but his statement in a 60 Minutes interview with George Negus that "playing soccer for Australia would be akin to surfing for England", probably didn't help either.
In 12 years at Melbourne, Ronald Dale Barassi turned himself into one of the game's most celebrated players and his club into one of the most envied and successful, winning six premierships and two best and fairest awards in a golden era for the foundation club. cheap baseball jerseys online That his playing and leadership talents should attract the interests of cross-town rivals Carlton was of no surprise, but that a favourite son like Barassi would take up a lucrative offer from the Blues was an Australian football story like no other. Occurring as it did in the cradle days of Australian television only amplified the level of scandal.
In his biography of Barassi, the late veteran sports scribe Peter McFarline summed up the reaction of the Melbourne faithful upon the news of Barassi's departure. "Grown men swore and became embroiled in fierce debates about the morality of the move," cheap cars for sale in new jersey McFarline wrote. "And women who regarded Barassi as not only a Melbourne institution but a highly desirable physical specimen turned on him." Jack Dyer evocatively added, "Barassi was so much Melbourne we believed that it wasn't a guernsey he wore, just the colour of his skin".
In actual fact, Barassi had resisted the overtures of Richmond, whose president Graeme Richmond had conducted a series of clandestine meetings with Barassi during the Demons 1964 Premiership season. Later in the year, white sox jersey cheap amid swirling rumours and no small measure of consternation and indecision on Barassi's behalf, the champion signed on as playing coach of Carlton and in his own words, "began one of the most rewarding periods of my life, one for which I am forever in debt to the Blues".The contract would see him earn $36,000 over three years, far and away the highest wage in the league. He'd coach Carlton to flags in 1968 and 1970 on his way to the Hall of Fame and football immortality, but the departure of Barassi and his Dees coach Norm Smith would establish the famed curse that Melbourne has never been able to shake.
The NBA may well be renowned as one of the more cut-throat sporting leagues in the world, but when LeBron James, arguably the greatest player in the league decided to end his stay at his hometown franchise via a national TV special, one of the 21st Century's greatest media firestorms exploded.
Managing the transition from teen prodigy to worldwide superstar with a certain degree of effortlessness, texas rangers jersey cheap James' decision to leave his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers after seven eventful seasons didn't go off so swimmingly. The ill-advised choice of turning his defection to the Miami Heat into 'The Decision', an absurd, self-aggrandising television event devastated his home state and briefly made James public enemy number one in the hyper-saturated world of US sports media. It also turned the phrase "I'm going to take my talents to South Beach" one of the most infamous and widely quoted utterances in sport and a kind of pop-cultural phenomenon of its own. That James' fee for the production went to charity did not spare him the scorn of the media or fans.
For a sports-mad city that had been through as much heartache as Cleveland, it was almost too much to bear. bruins jerseys cheap Fans posted YouTube videos of their burning LeBron jerseys while Cleveland native and veteran journalist Scott Raab would go on to release a book titled The Whore of Akron: One man's search for the soul of LeBron James. For Raab and many other Ohioans, a lifetime of sporting agony was projected onto James in one mass outpouring of vitriol and disdain. That he'd chosen to unite with fellow superstars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to form a kind of basketball superteam in the sunny, supposedly soulless city of Miami felt like a straight-up betrayal.
Within a year Cleveland fans would find themselves cheering on Dirk Nowitski's Dallas Mavericks as the so-called 'Big 3' failed to win the Heat the title that their former star so coveted, but Miami championship wins in the past two seasons, coupled with MVP awards and a decidedly more humble approach to his public image have restored James' reputation to a certain degree. Winners are grinners.
