Hello, my name is Mars (They/Them). You may know me by other names, I've had many over my 13 years of internet.

I'm a 27-year-old artist and former scientist. I'm trans and multiply neurodivergent, running an 'operating system' sporting ADHD, anxiety, OCD, dissociative symptoms and heavily suspected autism. I worked in research from 2019 to 2024, and recently had to leave the field due to increasing difficulties with my disabilities that left me physically incapable of meeting the demands of benchwork science.

got weirdly dizzy a few hours ago when I was literally just sitting and doing benchwork. I do get dizzy when I under eat/drink (duh), but historically it has been at a lower weight so I'm kinda 🥴 like how my extra sad work lunch have consequences before I am ready for them. ed brain is such a mindfuck, it's like waaah you don't have medical stuff happen so you aren't sick and then I get dizzy from benchwork and ed brain is like waaaahhh you can only have consequences if you weigh x, you absolute weenie 🙃

the hobby of model railroading is plagued by the petit bourgeois. you can see this in nearly every aspect of the hobby - it's taken for granted how much money it takes to build and maintain a layout, even not counting locomotives, and even using extremely cheap or natural material, so naturally the people who have the money and time to build something huge in their basement have 6 figure jobs to fund all that. also, a ton of model railroaders start small businesses doing modeling work, scenery work, designing, benchwork, electrical systems, etc etc.

even membership in clubs is gatekept for those who can afford it - the national model railroaders association is $120 a year, local clubs often have yearly dues, these aren't particularly expensive for a year but it's on top of an already pricey hobby. this creates a hobby where all the manufacturers are catering to these types, who won't even blink at paying $200+ for a single locomotive or $40 for a structure kit, and nothing for the people who can't afford to spend a ton on hobbies (especially kids! this is the kind of hobby where you get a loop of track and 1 train for christmas, use it once, and stay out of the hobby forever unless you decide to get back into it when you have a job)
