Robert Dickerson was one of Australia ‘s best known painters. Born in Sydney , Australia in 1924, he was the son of a tinsmith.He worked as a boy fashioning tin funnels and scoops in the father’s workshop, and in his leisure hours would hurry to the museums to draw and read and look at great paintings and sculpture.

At 14 he left school – he had not learned much there anyway having had pneumonia three times losing much schooling. He began to educate himself which has turnout out to be a lifelong process. He became a professional boxer at 16 years of age and toured the country towns of Australia until 18, when he joined the R.A.A.F. for World War II.

So far, painting was still a ‘spare time’ occupation. But in the jungles of Borneo, after the war was over, Dickerson suddenly found a lot of spare time when waiting to be demobilised. Then he really began to draw and paint, surrounded by the bright-eyed children of Borneo who were his friends. He used any available material – charcoal, plywood, whitewash, bootpolish.... the children serving as his models in return for sweets and cans of food he scrounged for them.

On his return to Australia, Dickerson took up factory jobs and for the next ten years he worked in labouring jobs painting on weekends. In 1956, he sold his first painting to the National Gallery of Victoria. Three years later he began to paint as a full time artist.

Trans Atlas headcanons!

Came to Rapture and started T because it was a place he finally could transition. He got top surgery after a while however he's unsure if he wants bottom surgery. (Lonnie did his top surgery and hormones because I see him as a doctor and NO WAY IN HELL is Atlas allowing Steinman to touch him)

His family shamed him for cutting his hair short, wearing boys clothes and bringing shame on his family in the name of the Lord (his family were Catholic) His mother especially was a bitch to him because she always wanted him to get married and have kids and "stay in the female body God graced ye with." Ugh.

He used to craft his own binders thanks to his sewing skills. He also makes his clothes hide his curves and properly fit him as it's hard to find men's clothes that actually fit. He did have a big chest that couldn't be flattened down fully but he has big muscles so no one notices. (He boxes at Fighting McDonaghs)

He used to use bootpolish on a sponge and put it on his face for a stubby beard.

He's definitely smaller, not taller. (5'5?)and his boots and shoes all have height insoles in them so he feels taller.

He's proud of his name. Atlas is a sign of strength and endurance and he feels that it suits him. Hates when people laugh at him for it.

He'd definitely help other trans people in Rapture. He remembers how hard it was and helps in any way possible. It's also how he'd gain even more support in the Rebellion.

He'd punch you for saying he was too feminine or just bring an ass to him like "men shouldn't wear nail polish." Fuck you, fuck gender norms.

He would like kids...he just...hides it. His family tree is massive ( tho he's an only child) so he'd probably have a lot too if he got the chance.

Atlas is bisexual and if you were his partner he'd be open to you about all this and he would be an amazing boyfriend... and he would steal your clothes too. Especially large sweaters ;)

His mom jeans are always hard to put on because of his hips. and his ass. It's why he needs the suspenders too.
