007 Fest 2022, Scavenger Hunt item no. 32: “Take a photo of your IRL James Bond merch---DVD collections, posters, doujins, or whatever you like.”
Well, had to leave the less interesting stuff out, but there you go. Lots of GoldenEye (as can be expected with me), and I feel there are some pieces here you had no idea existed 😁In any case, always a pleasure to make this collection grow and grow, hehe.

One Dress a Day Challenge
September: Bond Films
Tomorrow Never Dies / Michelle Yeoh as Wai Lin
This article states that there are "five primary modes of Bond girl chic," and I'm planning to look at them all! The first of them is "no-nonsense workwear," here aptly demonstrated by Wai Lin. She apparently wears this outfit underneath a skydiving suit. It's casual but eyecatching, and it allows for great freedom of movement, culminating in a memorable motorcycle ride where she and Bond jointly control the bike while handcuffed together.
I think she has two different versions of the shirt, as the one she wears when dangling from the rope seems longer than the one seen in other shots. Probably to hide a harness.

i finally found the images to tell this story, so here it is:
last summer, my best friend/roommate and i were standing in our living room, just yelling "DONNAAAAAA", as one does, both thinking we were imitating the same show.
then suddenly i was like - "wait, are you doing tenth doctor or pierce brosnan?" and he was like "oh, i was doing tenth doctor" and i said "i was doing pierce brosnan!"
which might sound like nonsense to you, unless you've seen both season 4 of doctor who, and the 2008 classic film Mamma Mia.

Someone on Twitter proposed a craig!bond, Brosnan!bond and Connery!bond crossover where they treat Connery!bond like the old insane bigot grandpa and Brosnan!bond as the pretty boy and I can't stop thinking about it.
CRAIG!BOND : Who are you, why are you here-
CONNERY!BOND : The HELL ?! M is a WOMAN-
BROSNAN!BOND : *just stands there looking pretty and menacing*
They do like, one mission, and Connery!bond and Craig!bond are getting into fights while Brosnan!bond is just like. steals a machine gun and shoots bad guys en masse.
*Brosnan!bond voice* Efficiency!

JAMES BOND REFERENCES IN MORIARTY THE PATRIOT
I am a big fan of James Bond since my early teenage years. I watched every movies and read all books, so when the Moriarty the Patriot manga first started using James Bond references, I basically screamed. And my voice got 100x louder when the iconic My name is Bond. James Bond. scene happened.
I always wanted to write an analysis of YuuMori's James Bond connections, so now here we are.
Tumblr media
First, let's talk a bit about the actual James Bond universe. The character of James Bond - the MI6 agent numbered 007 with a license to kill - got created by Ian Fleming in 1953. He first appeared in the novel called Casino Royale. Fleming wrote 12 novels and two short story collections with the character. The novels soon got movie adaptations, too, the first James Bond movie was Dr. No in 1962, where Sean Connery played Bond. Currently there are 25 Bond movies.
The James Bond movies can be classified into eras by the actor who played Bond. In order, these follow:
Sean Connery
(George Lazenby - but everyone tends to pretend this movie never happened)
Roger Moore
Timothy Dalton
Pierce Brosnan
Daniel Craig
The movies didn't come out in chronological order when it comes to James Bond's life-happenings. Most movies can be watched as stand-alones - but the Daniel Craig era tried to built up a storyline, where the movies are tied to each other. The James Bond movies always have an iconic intro, sing by a popular singer of the current era (the last movie's intro song was by Billie Eilish.)
The James Bond movie universe started to fuse with the Sherlock Holmes universe thanks to the Alan Moore comic book series, The League of Extraordinary Gentleman (1999). Professor Moriarty appeared here as M - the title what later ended up with Mycroft. The Elementary series (and somewhat BBC Sherlock) continued this tendency, featuring Mycroft as someone who has ties to the MI5/MI6.
Tumblr media
Professor Moriarty in TLoEG
The Moriarty the Patriot series features most characters who are important in James Bond movies. They are..
M - the leader of the MI6, which role was fullfilled by Albert and Louis.
Q - the inventor who keeps coming up with weapons and cars for James Bond. In YuuMori, Q is Von Herder, the blind mechanic mentioned in the Empty House Conan Doyle story.
Ms. Moneypenny - a secretary working personally for M. In the Daniel Craig era, she started as a field agent, but later moved to do office work. James Bond always gives her flowers and little souvenirs.
When it comes to James Bond, his personality in Moriarty the Patriot is similar to the canon one: loving good cars and guns, flirting with woman (especially Moneypenny) and while it's not vodka martini he orders in the pub when he met with Patterson, he asks for the drink shaken, not stirren. (On the other hand, the Macallan scotch he asks for is a reference to what James Bond drank in the Skyfall movie.)
Tumblr media
The location of the MI6 in YuuMori is also similar to the James Bond movies: underground and underwater in the Thames.
Tumblr media
The headquarter in Skyfall
Tumblr media
The Q-sector
The Man with the Golden Army arc features other references for the James Bond universe. The arc's title refers to the movie/book The Man with the Golden Gun (Roger Moore-era) - the two stories only similarity is that both deal with special guns. In that arc, Sebastian Moran takes on the identity of the 006, Alec Trevelyan. The character originally appeared in the Goldeneye James Bond movie (Pierce Brosnan-era) played by Sean Bean. He had the number 006 and he was the mentor of James Bond (like Moran later on). He seemingly got killed off at the start of the movie (but later returned as a villain).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alec Trevelyan in Goldeneye
Maybe not an intentional reference, but still interesting: the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies features an evil media mogul, Elliot Carver as a villain who likes orchestrating catastrophic incidents so his newspaper can be the first to write about them, manipulating people that way and gaining control in the media - kind of similar to Milverton (yes, the media mogul Milverton thing is from Sherlock, but still), who was the mastermind behind the Jack the Ripper murders then manipulated the public through the news he created. (I can actually see him orchestrating incidents in order to gain more power and become the King of Media, too.)
Tumblr media
Elliot Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies
We've yet to see the main villain of James Bond: Ernst Stavro Blofeld, (first appearing in the Thunderball book) the head of the crime organization called Spectre. I wander when he will appear in YuuMori, if they appear at all, but I really wish!
Tumblr media
I hope in the next stories YuuMori's James Bond world keeps expanding - that's such an interesting aspect of the series, I love to see more references!

'...Social media has played into this Irish invasion, with users fangirling over actors like Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Andrew Scott, and Cillian Murphy. All of these men have been recognized for their work in critically acclaimed and/or popular films in 2023. Cillian Murphy is nominated for (and forecast to win) an Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer.
...this new male-driven phenomenon likely stems from the convergence of the two online trends: an overwhelming fan appetite for male celebrities in the “internet boyfriend” era, and a growing interest in Irish culture. The result is a super-online (and horny) generation of Hibernophiles.
...the modern romanticization of Irish men doesn’t seem to be pegged to one film or moment in time, and a cursory Google search pulls up a slew of articles declaring the purported pros of dating Irish men. These lists are not necessarily based on hard facts as much as cultural assumptions, and many of them, including one by Popsugar, emphasize the Irish’s supposed charm, good looks, chattiness, and love for their mothers...
Presumably, there’s a link between the idyllic postcard image many Americans have of Ireland — lush green pastures, poetry, music, and a friendly population — and the view of Irish men as ideal romantic partners. It has certainly helped that Americans and consumers worldwide have been inundated with images of handsome Irish men in popular culture, from former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan to One Direction member Niall Horan to scruffy sex symbol Colin Farrell. While interviewing Cillian Murphy on his podcast Armchair Expert in 2022, host Dax Sheppard raved about the “inordinate amount of handsome men” he encountered on a trip to Ireland...
The 1845 Irish famine meant a huge influx of immigrants to the US, and the men quickly gained a reputation as “feckless, uncultured, and prone to drunkenness and violence,” Burke explained. “That stereotype has been argued to have persisted to some degree right up to the era of John F. Kennedy.” Kennedy’s election, she says, was thought to signal the full assimilation of the Irish in America. (A shift that, in turn, brought us notable Irish Americans like Alec Baldwin, Sean Hannity, and Bill O’Reilly.)
This shift in perception represents the “flexible racial status of Irishness,” as Diane Negra, film studies professor at the University College Dublin, writes in the book The Irish in Us: Irishness, Performativity and Pop Culture. She expands that this is due to a complex history and ethnic identity that allows them to “oscillate between otherness and whiteness.” Likewise, Burke says white Irish people fit into a category of “non-vanilla vanilla” in the Western imagination.
For the American viewer, “Irish actors arguably evoke a kind of safe ‘exoticness,’” she said. “Being native speakers of English with a purportedly cute accent, they are just ‘foreign’ enough for mainstream taste.”
That newfound perception of Irish men as harmless and gentle feels connected to a wider trend that they’ve shown up in on the internet: the “babygirl.” The moniker has become a go-to term of endearment for grown men in Hollywood who are physically attractive and display pleasant traits. According to Mashable, it describes “when a man is being cute, comfortable in his masculinity, or weak in an evocative way.” This act of infantilization can be applied to a wide range of men, but it’s hard not to notice actors like Mescal, Keoghan, Murphy, and Farrell being popular recipients of this treatment online...
The Andrew Haigh film All of Us Strangers, starring Andrew Scott and Mescal, was on the precipice of Oscars glory, with Scott campaigning but failing to make it to the final stage for Best Actor. For months throughout awards season, though, Mescal and Scott were making the internet swoon in joint interviews and red-carpet appearances, demonstrating that their onscreen chemistry carried over into real life. The same attention was paid to Keoghan, who became more of a talking point throughout awards season for his role in the polarizing Emerald Fennell film Saltburn — not to mention that nude dance scene — than a realistic Oscars contender.
Last but not least, there’s Cillian Murphy, whose role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer could very well win him an Oscar on March 10, after a near-sweep at the year’s major awards ceremonies. The standom and thirst for him on social media is particularly striking, given that he’s had a lengthy, mostly unsung career that hadn’t yielded huge starmaking moments before Oppenheimer, despite playing multiple side characters in Nolan’s filmography. Prior to playing the “father of the atomic bomb” last year, his most notable role as a leading man was as gangster Thomas Shelby in the BBC2 show Peaky Blinders, which ran for almost a decade and earned a strong Tumblr fan base.
Professor and author Christopher Shannon adds that the public’s affinity for Murphy is particularly fascinating, given that American audiences haven’t necessarily fallen in love with him through Irish cinema like previous Irish actors.
“What strikes me about someone like Murphy is that he has achieved his fame mostly in non-Irish roles,” he said. “Murphy is celebrated as an actor who happens to be Irish rather than as a distinctly Irish actor.”
Nevertheless, Murphy’s Irish identity seems to be part of his draw, based on how his online fan base interacts with him. Despite being rather reserved, the Batman Begins star has generated an entire mill of memes, many of them stemming from routinely unenthused interactions and a general “who gives a fuck?” attitude. In particular, it seems as though the internet enjoys the ways he firmly declares his Irishness.
One of his most viral moments is a clip of him repeatedly stating that he’s Irish after an interviewer refers to him and his Inception co-star Tom Hardy as British. Another popular image of Murphy shows the actor seemingly giving Prince Harry a dissenting glare as the cast lines up to meet him at the Dunkirk premiere. This could well just be Murphy’s natural expression (he’s not exactly known for looking cheery), but the internet interpreted Murphy’s look as proof of his disdain for the British monarchy...
Murphy has said that it’s a “good time to be an Irish actor” in Hollywood. At the same time, when asked how he felt about being the first Irish-born actor to win Best Actor at the BAFTAs last week, he seemed slightly exhausted by a sense of tokenism. “It means a lot to me to be Irish,” he answered a journalist. “I don’t know what else to say. Should I sing a rebel song?”
Of course, this quip only made the Murphy Hive fall in love with him more.'

No doubt, most of you have heard the recent news of Quentin Tarantino deciding to shelve his planned-for-years movie, The Movie Critic, because he didn't think it was "worthy" of being his final film.
I can't say I was looking forward to it — absolutely nothing about the phrase "1970s period piece" is in any way appealing to me — but I find it to be just the latest example of something that's bugged me about QT for years: his tendency not to commit to ideas he has. I recall numerous occasions when Tarantino would bring up an ideas for movies he wants to make, and then never do anything with those ideas. Just a few examples of projects he's suggested but never followed through on:
A mob movie taking place in 1930s Australia
An "earth-bound" science fiction movie that "wouldn’t involve spaceships"
A biopic on abolitionist John Brown
A film adaptation of the novel Less Than Zero
A sequel to Kill Bill focusing on Elle Driver training Vernita Green's daughter to get revenge on The Bride
Before Casino Royale came out, he wanted to direct the next James Bond movie as a 1960s period piece but with Pierce Brosnan in the role one last time; no less a person than Sean Connery said it sounded like a cool idea
He also wanted to co-create a Star Trek movie with JJ Abrams
He also teased Killer Crow, a World War II-era Blaxploitation film about Black soldiers who make "a warpath to Switzerland" after being "fucked over by the American military
These all sound like amazing ideas for movies, and Tarantino is such a talented director that I have no doubt he could pull them off. Unfortunately, they'll never come to fruition because he's going to retire after his tenth movie to "preserve his artistic legacy" or whatever. I don't know why he feels like he has to do that; other directors like Spielberg and Scorsese are still cranking out hits well into their twilight years, so why does QT feel the need to limit himself?
And here's another question: if QT isn't going to direct those movies, can't he at least write the scripts and hand off directing duties to someone like Robert Rodriguez? From Dusk Till Dawn proved Rodriguez has what it takes to bring Tarantino's scripts to life; it could work with those other movies, too!

One Dress a Day Challenge
September: Bond Films
Die Another Day / Pierce Brosnan as James Bond
Bond wears this casual yet tasteful outfit on a trip to Cuba. I'll quote the Gentleman's Gazette's thorough rundown of the details.
"The hero piece here is the deep blue linen shirt with a light blue floral design. Although Bond typically isn’t seen in florals, the outfit is quite appropriate given its coastal location… The shirt was specifically crafted for the film by the Italian tailoring house Brioni, who was the main supplier of clothes for many of Brosnan’s Bond films. It features some intriguing details including a one-piece collar in the camp or Cuban style, half-length sleeves which stop at the elbow, a rounded breast pocket and side vents, also a straight hem at the bottom, meaning the shirt is designed to be worn untucked, as Bond does. The shirt’s florals are embroidered rather than printed which provides a vivid, well-defined pattern. So, although at first glance, it looks like a stylish Hawaiian shirt, the details set this aside as a unique piece of Bond clothing. Underneath the shirt is a plain white cotton undershirt, which allows the shirt to be worn with only one or two buttons fastened, all while retaining some modesty.
"Keeping with the classic family of blues, Bond adds a pair of navy linen trousers to the ensemble, again, likely by Brioni, rounding the look off with a pair of brown suede chukka boots and a pair of Persol sunglasses crafted especially for the film; Model PE2672-S. Persols are a classic choice of sunglasses and befitting for Bond.
"Altogether, this ensemble has a lot of great styling points, which is why it’s made our list. The different shades of navy and blue within the ensemble keep things interesting without being too distracting, creating a refined aesthetic, which works well for Bond’s warm-weather wardrobe."

Day 83 of waiting for Bond26 news
Since it's his birthday today, I'll be discussing Pierce Brosnan on today's addition to Behind Bond! (Happy birthday to him by the way)
Tumblr media
He played the fifth EON Productions James Bond from Goldeneye to Die Another Day! His Bond is often denoted as a composite of his predecessors by other fans. What is unique about his era (at the time of writing this) that none of the films shared titles with Ian Fleming's works. (Even Craig!era had Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace as titles)
Outside of James Bond, he has done roles such as Remington Steele alongside many others! Moreover, what I learned recently is that Mr. Brosnan does artwork as well that you can check out on his website linked below under the artist tab!
Tumblr media
He uses a lot of bright colors in his pieces and I would love to study his work for this blog one day! (Putting that on the very long to do list)
