     it  is  as  though  the  rest  of  the  world  does  not  exist.  for  a  minute,  there  is  peace  and  quiet  and  all  regina  can  see  is  her  reflection  in  the  mirror.  call  her  superficial  (  and  she  knows  they  do  ),  but  it  is  one  of  the  few  moments  when  she  can  think.  lipstick  applied  slowly,  perfectly,  making  sure  there  is  an  even  coverage  on  every  inch.  until  gabbi  broussard’s  voice  breaks  her  out  of  her  trance,  havoc  wrecking  behind  cerulean  hues.  her  first  instinct  is  to  yell  at  the  other,  but  there  is  no  reason  to  start  off  that  day  with  unpleasantries.  

       instead,  she  closes  her  lipstick  and  turns  around  /  gaze  cold  as  it  finds  gabbi’s.  ❝  that  would  imply  i  care  about  you  or  even  think  about  you.  i  don’t.  you’re  irrelevant  to  me,  gabbi,  ❞  the  blonde  whispers,  voice  flat  as  she  speaks.  no  one  would  be  able  to  tell  she  is  lying,  given  how  much  regina  excels  at  it.  but  it  is  still  there,  lacing  every  word  dripping  from  saccharine  lips.  ❝  so  tragic  about  your  brother  being  expelled.  not  that  i’m  surprised,  he  is  a  piece  of  shit  but...  ❞  a  beat,  gaze  roaming  up  and  down  gabbi’s  figure.  ❝  kinda  sexy.  that’s  the  lipstick  shade,  in  case  you  were  wondering.  i  mean,  that  ought  to  be  the  reason  why  you  are  talking  to  me,  yeah?  since  we’re  not  friends  or  anything.  ❞

what is known is what is safe. your fear is never inside you, always somewhere else. your home is the best place in the world; all other places are scary. the people you already know are better than anyone else. so you go on, playing with broken toys, wearing dead people's clothes. you can be torn down to shreds, abused, tortured and miserable. but at least you know where it comes from, which gives you a sense of comfort and even control. the unknown hides dangers you don't understand, so it scares you. but alongside the dangers, you miss the wonder, adventures and opportunities that you could've otherwise had. my guess is that you've dealt with grief and loss.
