#but netflix geralt is a different third version of geralt and i do like cavill as netflix geralt
Text
honestly at this point im just annoyed as all hell abt the henry cavill thing bc i came here from mcu fandom and i spent my last two years there watching my favorite characters who i poured so much love into be utterly destroyed by terribly writing (and actor contracts). since then ive put so much love into the witcher and now it feels like there's a ticking clock hanging over my head, counting down to when another favorite character is going to be totally fucked up bc an actor decided not to come back.

I don’t reblog these types of photo manipulations very often, but this one’s too good to pass up. Although I’ve yet to play the first two Witcher video games (which were impossible to find in my part of Canada - I’ve tried), Witcher III: Wild Hunt is one of my favourites and a big part of that is the character of Ciri, who seriously deserves her own movie, game, comic book, novel series, you name it. (She does feature in some of these under the Witcher brand, of course). When the character is first introduced in the novels (and the games), she’s just a kid, but in Witcher III time has passed and now she’s a butt-kicking 20-something warrior. The upcoming Witcher TV series - unfortunately, but understandably - starts earlier in the continuity, so she’s a kid right now, so we may have to wait a while before we see this version of Ciri on the screen if they’re planning a multi-season run that’ll allow the character to grow up similar to what we saw with Selina Kyle in Gotham.
By the way, for those who want to see what Ciri actually looks like in the Witcher III game (where she is even a playable character in some missions), she’s featured on the cover of one of Witcher writer Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels:

The first major trailer for The Witcher TV series (being produced for Netflix) was released during Comic Con and it looks OK, and the author is apparently involved in the production, so that’s promising. And star Henry Cavill looks like he’ll do the job as Geralt of Rivia. My only concern is that I hope it doesn’t try too hard to be like Game of Thrones. (I can imagine there’s a danger of Ciri coming off as a variation of Arya Stark as the series goes on, for example.) The Witcher doesn’t need to be a Thrones clone, it’s got its own distinct voice and while of course it won’t completely feel like the game, I hope it retains the tone that made the third game and, so I’ve been told, the first two so amazing.
PS: Of course the question has to be asked - would Emilia Clarke make a good Ciri? The voice actress in the video game certainly reminded me of Emilia, and Emilia’s no stranger to action roles, so I think she’d do OK. But Freya Allan, an actress I’m not familiar with (truth be told, of the announced cast I only know Cavill which is no different than back when Thrones was made up of 90% unknowns) is Ciri in the TV series, and we’ll see how she does. Hopefully this will be a star-making role for her just as Dany was for Emilia, Arya was for Maisie Williams, etc.
