'The Church on Ruby Road' has a thin plot, an underdeveloped threat, and a rather abrupt ending, but it succeeds where something like 'The Woman Who Fell to Earth' failed because it is very much a story about the new Doctor becoming friends with their new companion. The Doctor and Ruby are the focus and priority, this is the their story, how they meet, how they become friends, and why they end up travelling together. It is all about establishing that crucial connection between the main characters, but also the chemistry between the leads. Like the best new doctor/companion/era episodes, it knows when to just stop, take a moment, and let the leads just play off each other.

Hundreds of people have said it before me, but it's really so powerful Donna's first WILLING adventure with the Doctor is an insanely emotionally moving one with a very deep message that arose from her compassion (The Fires Of Pompeii)
Even if you don't know Catherine Tate is known for her wit and comedy, Donna herself is introduced as a very comical character. Her theme is comical, her actions and sass is meant to be read as comical and both Runaway Bride and Partners In Crime have a totally different narrative structure because of it. Like, both episodes having a lot of humour based around an unexpected scenario forcing both to improvise in funny and chaotic DIY ways.
When you first watch these two episodes you have no reason to believe their run together is going to be anything else! So it was such a brilliant decision to have the episode right after she joins the Doctor be one in which SHE'S pushing a moral dilemma onto the Doctor. To be all fun and games until she learns people are going to die and the Doctor plans to do nothing about it. To then also KEEP on pushing the subject DESPITE the Doctor, this alien she at this point still knows very little about, speaking about the world and time with a sense of authority like there Truly Really is nothing they could do.
The fact that the character who's introduced to us as the comic relief IMMEDIATELY turns around and tells the Doctor he's guilty of the death of a teenager and everyone around him if he refuses to help at all... That's such a powerful move.

do you think thirteen dropped yaz off and went to regenerate on her own because she couldn't bear the thought that yaz might've stopped loving her after regenerating. do you think her mind went to clara. to "please, just see me" and "im not your boyfriend" "i never thought you were" "i never said it was your mistake". do you think the doctor feared that, maybe, the kind of love she would've been able to give her after regenerating might not have been good enough. i am miserable

Who is your favourite companion?
TOURNAMENT MASTERPOST
propaganda under the cut
Donna Noble
no propaganda submitted
Barbara Wright
Come on; she's the teacher who taught the Doctor to be a decent person. Without her 99.995% of the series would never have happened. Also the Aztecs thought she was a goddess and I mean; I'm pretty sure lots of fans agree! (@hartnellwho /@elden-12 )

something i noticed in season 2 of The Bear:
Carmen rarely calls Natalie "Sugar" in season 2. We can see that Carmen's emotional distance from Natalie seems to decrease once she becomes project manager, flipping his entire life over once again; fulfilling just a sliver of his dream of turning 'mom and dads piece of shit,' into what it is now.
The nickname "Sugar" was given to Natalie from her mother in attempt to belittle her for a minor mistake she made in her childhood: one of the many ways Donna victimized her children.
Carmen often referred to Natalie as "Sugar" during season 1 whenever he needed a favor or was beyond frustrated with his sister. Although it's a very small change, shortening it to "Sug," and then even replacing it with "Nat," was an amazingly subtle way of the writers showing their sibling bond repair itself.

funniest misconception about donna is that people assume she’s emotionally stable and well adjusted meanwhile she’s internally waging war with god and having 10 different existential crises

Modern AU
Cassandra has a death wish with the drinks she makes. Bela is surprised her sister didn’t get a heart attack. But that is only Bela, what does she know when it comes to the things that her sister does. As long as she’s handling this madness just fine, Bela shouldn’t have any reason to complain.
But the eldest daughter feels obligated to mention what is mixed with the vodka. Because different people like different things right? Some prefer cranberry, others prefer cherry soda, and then there is Cassandra’s mix which is vodka and red bull. Of course, it isn’t for show, Cassandra does drink that monstrosity and thinks most people are okay with this thing.
It isn’t only vodka. On occasion, Bela saw her sister mix espresso with red bull when she needs the extra burst of energy after staying up very late. How her sister didn’t drop dead after drinking that is still something Bela wonders about to this day.
Cassandra never listens though. She thinks it’s okay and as long as her body isn’t rejecting this then why should she stop?
On a morning while the girls were staying over at their aunt Donna’s house, Cassandra did toss espresso in a glass full of the energy drink. It was then that the three sisters saw their very kind and very soft-spoken aunt snap.
Donna is very against energy drinks. To the Italian woman, if you need energy you get it from caffeine that’s either in tea or coffee, and that’s about it. Energy drinks are a huge no in her book and she often speaks about it. To see her niece nonchalantly mix two things that have no business mixing together, the woman was sent over the edge.
Donna might have over-dramatized it. She didn’t have to go as far as to mention how she would tell Alcina that she stood by while her daughter killed herself. Because the woman is convinced that the second Cassandra drinks the beverage, her soul will depart from her body.
Daniela, trying to help her aunt calm down, mentioned that she should relax because “Cass does this a lot you really don’t—“ But she was interrupted because what do you mean she does this frequently?
Donna wonders how Alcina allows this. To which the daughters gulped because their mother doesn’t really know and they figured that what Alcina didn’t know wasn’t going to hurt her. But of course, Cassandra is cocky and thought her aunt wouldn’t even know what red bull is which is apparently not true at all.

There is a reason im being hesitant to refer to Aphmau as 'Lord Avra of Phoenix Drop' in my rewrite.
But honestly the second reason is just the idea of her being lord is so outrageous because if this bitch can do it, so can anyone
