they have like an implied thing that hasn't really gone anywhere yet - in vol 3 it's pretty heavily implied that diego "loves" her but what that means and whether anything will happen with it could go either way. in general those two are much closer in the comics as the two kids who were most actively resentful of hargreeves's authority - she was in a punk band with diego when they were teenagers and they snuck out to throw illegal basement shows lol. instead of vanya being totally excluded like viktor was in the show, it was diego cruelly dismissing that childhood bond that made her snap and give in to her anger in vol 1 of the comics. it was pretty impossible to guess where the comics were gonna go even before gerard said he'd started heavily editing his plan for the rest of the series so literally who knows where it'll go tbh skskdjdj
