California fast-food workers are forming a unique kind of union
Lizzet Aguilar has worked at a McDonald’s in Los Angeles for 17 years. She’s never once been given a paid day off. She’s never taken a vacation. When her husband or nine-year-old son get sick and need her to care for them—or if she gets sick herself—she has to call out and lose a day’s pay. “Es difícil,” she says: It’s difficult. Her wages are already low. She makes $16.78 per hour. “Estamos luchando día a día. Es difícil vivir en California,” says Aguilar: We live day to day. It’s difficult to live in California. But for many years she was afraid to speak up and join the Fight for 15, a national movement to raise the minimum wage that started with fast-food workers and has since seen 14 states and Washington, D.C., raise their minimum wages to $15 an hour, increasing pay for 26 million workers.   Then the pandemic hit and Aguilar’s boss didn’t give workers any hand sanitizer, gloves, or even masks. Six coworkers got COVID-19. “Ese me puso a decir, ‘Basta,’” she recalls: It pushed her to say, Enough. She got involved to protect herself and her family.  Now Aguilar will be part of the next evolution in the Fight for 15 movement: She and her coworkers will announce on February 9 that they are forming the California Fast Food Workers Union, which will be part of SEIU. Hundreds of workers from different fast-food companies will gather in Los Angeles to sign union cards. It’s time, Aguilar and her coworkers decided, to become more formal members of a union and pay dues. It’s a fresh start, she says, on the road toward securing bigger gains.

🚨 New Podcast Episode
On September 16th, 2009, Mitrice Richardson was in jail for acting bizarrely in a restaurant in Malibu, not being able to pay for her food, and having less than an ounce of marijuana on her. As you get to know Mitrice through the episode, all of this was so out of character for her. It’s likely Mitrice was suffering with bipolar disorder but it crept up slowly through the years, barely detectable. That night, it’s believed she had a mental breakdown after not sleeping for five nights.
Her mother, Latice, called the station and said since her daughter would be at the jail until morning, she would come pick her up. Morning came sooner than expected. Mitrice was free to go from the station a little after 12AM on September 17th. Latice was not notified. Mitrice was in Malibu, a place she was not familiar with, 40 miles away from home. Her cellphone and purse were in her car, which they had towed off to a tow yard on the Pacific Coast Hwy.
After Mitrice left the police station, she walked off into the darkness, never to be seen alive again.
In regards to Mitrice’s disappearance and strange death, you might start to question everything…

So in today’s drama, Los Angeles City Council President has been exposed as being a racist politician who exemplifies the anti-Black sentiments in Los Angeles politics.
Calling a fellow council member’s Black adoptive child a little monkey and claiming he needed to be beatdown (after being a school council board member mind you) was bad enough.
But she goes on to write-off Los Angeles County Attorney George Gascón because he’s “with the Blacks.” Then she and Gil Cedillo decide that robbing a district of their ability to vote for their representative won’t have much of a backlash because the voice of the Black voters are like Wizard of Oz smoke and mirrors trick.
I’m looking forward to her letter of resignation. She should not represent Los Angeles. She should not be in any place of power. Angelinos want a representative who serve all their constituents.

Chinatowns More Vibrant After Pandemic, Anti-Asian Violence | New York News
Chinatowns More Vibrant After Pandemic, Anti-Asian Violence | New York News
By TERRY TANG, Associated Press The last week of April was a whirlwind for San Francisco’s Chinatown. The storied neighborhood debuted the “AAPI Community Heroes Mural,” a mostly black and white depiction of 12 mostly unsung Asian American and Pacific Islander figures on the wall of a bank. Three days later “Neon Was Never Brighter,” the first ever Chinatown contemporary arts festival, took…

Via the IWW Freelance Journalists Union:
Since April 2023, Ben Camacho has been entangled in a legal battle over the release of photographs of officers with the Los Angeles Police Department. The photographs were obtained through a Public Records Request, after Camacho filed a lawsuit and a court settlement ordered the photos be handed over. Following the release of the photos by Stop LAPD Spying Coalition, the City of Los Angeles filed suit against Camacho and SLSC, alleging that the public release of the personnel photos could compromise “sensitive” operations. The ongoing attempt to claw back these now public records is being made in violation of the defendants’ First Amendment rights. Now, another lawsuit has been filed, apparently to shift blame in the case. The Industrial Workers of the World Freelance Journalists Union stands in solidarity with Camacho, whose commitment to transparency in policing and government represents the core ethics of journalism: to inform the people and hold power to account. We call on Mayor Bass, City Attorney Soto and the City of Los Angeles to abide by the First Amendment by dropping these lawsuits immediately. Until then, we stand by the motto of the IWW: An injury to one is an injury to all!

Business consultants play a crucial role in helping investment banks transition smoothly through this transformative journey. Their strategic guidance, innovation identification, and implementation of digital solutions have become key to driving digital change.
Strategic Guidance: When investment banks consider overhauling their business models, consultants provide valuable inputs. They help banks evaluate emerging technologies like AI, Blockchain, and Big Data and guide them on which tech stack will best suit their specific needs.
Innovation Identification: Consultants identify opportunities for innovation that banks can leverage. They study new technology trends, analyze the competitive landscape, and perform customer analysis to suggest where digital innovation can be beneficial.
Digital Solution Implementation: After strategizing, consultants assist banks with the implementation of the selected digital solutions. They ensure seamless integration of new technologies with existing systems, minimizing disruption to ongoing operations.
