My work consists of ornate compositions that use a pattern-based topography to portray ideas about land and our natural world. The abstracted landscapes are simultaneously ordered, in disarray, realistic and also abstract. The tapestry-like format is dense, intertwined, sometimes haphazard, and bursting with energy. Seemingly chaotic, the terrain is dynamic, and

like our natural world, one hub of activity finds a connection and interacts into the next.

Thank you FARM Projects Gallery in Wellfleet, MA for finding a new home for Nature’s Mysterious Conglomerates II, a fav of mine from an ongoing series that explores ideas about land and our natural world. Art writer @Abraham Storer beautifully described the work in this series in his review of my show at the FARM: “In Nature’s Mysterious Conglomerates (Eyes in Sky), the environment seems to be both underwater and celestial. Sea grasses snake through a busy field of spider webs and stains of color. A star-studded midnight blue sky hovers above — and even there, swirling vines find their way up to the stars and start to coalesce into biomorphic forms. In another piece, Nature’s Mysterious Conglomerates II, the nighttime sky becomes a network of neurons and synapses. Here’s a bit on my fellow artists: Based in Santa Cruz, Miriam Hitchcock’s engaging shaped canvases are a hybrid of figurative, landscape and abstract imagery— cool stuff! And I just discovered that Emily Maddigan hails from my hometown Detroit, MI, and funny enough, is also an alum of Michigan State University, where I studied sculpture. She’s now based in Long Beach, Ca, and she works with taxidermied specimens, transforming them into these fabulous sparkling surreal narratives. Yorba Winery is a multi-generational family viticulture venture with everyone at work including the kids, grandma, grandpa and everyone in-between— I love that idea! I am delighted to announce that I have been selected to create a public art project for the City of Sunnyvale’s new City Hall development. This is a rendering of my proposed tapestry that was approved by the Sunnyvale City Council. The Belgium weaving studio recently sent me a test weave of my project, and I’m now experimenting with washes of neon and iridescent paint onto the textile surface, as well as the addition of metallic threads and various types of yarn. More details coming soon. It is a true honor to have this opportunity, and exciting to see my first tapestry project realized. Wow! I love the gleeful exuberance of @dph_palo_alto dancing in front of my mural titled Lost in My Abstracted Garden, located at Palo Alto’s CalTrans Station. Thank you for your joyful, celebratory performance and of course, it’s rad that you’re #dressedtomatch. …Brilliant strategy for activating public art! My piece was one of eight site-specific murals commissioned by @publicartpa for the City’s 2021 Uplift Local initiative. The murals were sprinkled throughout the commercial downtown district to encourage folks to get up, get out, and take a walking tour of the artworks. The mural program was slated to be on view for just a year, but as you can see, there’s plenty of life left in them—and joyful interest too!
