Briar Evans Aesthetic

“Slytherin!”

The silence that echoed throughout the Great Hall was deafening, but it was the low hissing that followed it that made the hair on the back of Lily’s neck stand on end.

The purebloods that made up the majority of Slytherin were staring up at the small figure with teeth bared and a vicious glint in their eyes.

A Muggleborn sorted into the house renown for its ideals of blood purity… it spelled nothing but disaster for the poor child, which would worry Lily no matter what, but this time was different. This time it wasn’t a stranger walking into the snake pit.

It was her baby sister.

Lily could do nothing but watch with growing panic as Briar’s small body stilled under the Sorting Hat. She saw Professor McGonagall gently lift the Hat off of her, the woman’s lips pressed tight with barely concealed anger at the green clad students. And Lily didn’t know what she expected. She knew Briar wasn’t one to crumble and break; her feisty stubbornness always managed to out weigh everything else. But even though she knew this, she still watched-eyes wide with shock- as her little sister stood up from the stool, back straight and legs firm, and lifted her chin defiantly in the air as she walked confidently toward the table hissing its displeasure at her. Dark green eyes stared down each and every one of them, not a trace of fear or anxiety to be seen.

And Lily knew, because she knew her sister, that those eyes were burning with all the intensity of a fire, silently telling all of the purebloods currently looking down at her:

‘Bite me. I fucking dare you.’

Her baby sister always did have a foul mouth after all.

Briar Evans x Regulus Black

She knew he had finally given into sleep when the tension that had been plaguing him for the last several hours finally eased. His weight pressed into her side as he went limp, fingers still laced loosely through her own and his hair tickling her cheek from where his head lay on her shoulder. She exhaled deeply and allowed her own body to relax against the headboard, gently resting her head on his, and closed her eyes. Her thumb idly traced circles on his palm as she let her thoughts settle for the night. But unbidden, a memory from years ago came to mind. Lily’s hands were feather soft as they cupped Briar’s cheeks and swiped away the silent tears streaming down her face. “You love so fiercely, little tiger,” she murmured, and a sad smile played at her lips. “It’s one the many things that I love about you, but it also scares me.” Her bright green eyes peered deeply into Briar’s own darker ones with brutal honesty. “I fear that one day… one day, that fierce love is going to break your heart beyond repair… and Regulus will be the cause of it.” The memory left as quickly as it came, and Briar’s hand tightened instinctively around Regulus’. She had always known, of course. She had known from the moment she met him that Regulus Black might one day break her heart and soul. But the thing that Lily didn’t know, what she didn’t understand, was that for Briar, the risk was worth it. Because Regulus was worth it. He always had been. And he always would be.
