₊˚.༄ || soft valentines m.list || hongjoong || seonghwa || yunho || yeosang || san || mingi || wooyoung || jongho || ₊˚.༄
having a gamer boyfriend, yunho would probably be convincing you to play valorant. the amount of patience he has when you were struggling is a big green waving flag.
"stay there babe, jett will be there any moment." yunho, using chamber, as his valorant character, he went on a different direction making you panic initially, "w-wait yu-" it was the last countdown before the shield disolves, scaring you more. you right click to move the scope close to you and aim at the character--jett. you kept firing until you saw it laying on the ground, dead. a wash of relief covers your body, as you take cover behind the boxes to reload as you finish reloading, you were met with another enemy-- omen and before you could even aim, you were killed.
you smack the table out in frustration, opening your mouth to curse at the character and the gmaer behind, "ARGH YOU DIM-!"
"language!" yunho called, laughs at your unexpected reaction. his game play was smooth, knows the angle, how to use his weapons, understand the flow of his character. he's amazing.
the next round came, the other and another until it was a deathmatch; one more point between your team as the defender and your enemies (attacker) will determine your victory or defeat.
It was moment of, ironically, death or life in the game. you can feel the pressure as yunho look at you with a glint of determination, "you can do this babe!" he cheered, his wide grin knocking off your scared senses, rotating your shoulders as your fingers hover on the key and gripping your mouse tightly in your hand.
"to victory!" you look at him with a smirk, he nodded laughing at your sudden boost of confidence. he leans in to place a quick kiss on your lips, just right as the shield dissolve and the deathmatch begins.
"ah shi- no!" it was for a brief moment that you saw chamber (yunho's character) fell on the ground, dead, made your heart race a lot and face burning as the sudden thought of carrying this whole game on your shoulder as the best player is out.
there's only you and Neon left, and 3 more other players on the opposing side. Neon manage to kill one of the players before she was killed by Omen. Your worst enemy since the beginning.
"you can do it babe!" for a first time player, you had a good grip of learning your character immediately. you were walking around, looking for a place to spike the plant. Sound of the metal clanging on the ground as the spike is planted and the automated voice of announcing of your plantation. yunho was watching on his seat, not giving you any words except of encouragement.
"my babe has 23 kills? holy shi-" yunho gape at the screen as he checks every players status and seeing your kills for a first time player is shocking. you were focusing on the game when the screen showed a red paint, indicating you were hit.
immediately, aiming at sage. she was an easy hit for you, but the last one will be a little difficult. you walk around but staying in the same area as the spike; just as you predicted, the last player was diffusing the spike.
in a swift moment, your fingers press on the keys and in a blur of the moment, the screen showed a green banner. victory.
"LET'S GO!!" yunho cheered, standing up. you removed your headphones; not believing the actual victory. yunho grab your hands, hugging you whilst jumping around, "my babe is pro gamer!"
you laugh at his enthusiasm but jump along with the victory. even if you failed multiple times, yunho's patience never waver. he was always been there for you, to see you struggle and stand back up, to see you cry and wipe them on your own and to see you defeated and to gain victory on your own.
you look up to him, arms wrap around his waist, eyes twinkling in admiration, "well i have the best gamer-teacher..." his ears redden at the unexpected compliment, yunho looks at your with the same eyes; full of affection. he leaned down, catching your lips with his. it molded perfectly.
he pulled away, pecking your nose before pulling you down with him on his gaming chair, "i know the game can be tiring so i'm letting you rest up while i go for another game." you chuckle, adjusting yourself on his lap. he knew you so well that things like this are new to you and that made you drain, mentally and physically.
you rest your head on his shoulders while he left light kisses on your head as the match began.

Xie Lian like the anti main character character. Saving all the other characters from being the main character because main character life sucks.
But honestly, it's really sweet how he went around being the shoulder everyone could cry on because he never had that when he needed if the most. He did have Hua Cheng trying his best, so it's sweet that he's being what Hua Cheng was for him for everyone else.
"No Banyue, no need to keep hurting yourself. You too Pei Xu. It's okay to be scared Shi Qingxuan. I love you Feng Xin, I love you Mu Qing, I should have said that more often. Yes, Pei Ming. I'll help you deal with your traumatised Ex (How on earth do you have only one of these?) Yes, Lang Qianqiu, I'm the bad guy so just stay the pure little angel that you are. Don't be afraid to love Ling Wen, love is beautiful. It's okay to be confused Qi Ying, take things one step at a time. You did well Yin Yu. Bai Wuxiang, you piss me the fuck off but I'll let your bullshit slide as long as you stop. Being the main character is tiring, isn't it? San Lang, love of my life, you're the most amazing thing that's ever happened to me."
Then there's Qi Rong. 💀
"I've wanted to tell you this for a long time, FUCK YOU QI RONG!"
Qi Rong "FUCK YOU TOO YOU WHORISH DOG FUCKER!"

#They know #They all know about our obsession over Shiwang
Three-Body cast and crew’s special finale event: To give everyone some context, the host showed a scene with Wang Miao and Shi Qiang in it from episode 1, and asked everyone to guess what the floating comments from viewers would be for that particular scene. If you are familiar with Chinese video hosting or streaming sites, you’d know that there’s this feature called 弹幕/danmu. Viewer comments will be posted on the screen, and the comments will mostly float across the screen. I feel like this entire part is them talking about the Shiwang ship without mentioning shipping. I’m pretty sure the host is a Shiwang fan. From the 2nd gif, we can tell that Yu Hewei definitely thought there was one point later in the show that would make people start to put Wang Miao and Shi Qiang together in the same comment, and from the last gif we know that he rewatched...
Also if you are interested, in the first gif, san shui (three water) is Miao because the Chinese character Miao/淼 consists of three shui/水 (water).

Let's Read: A Requiem for Char: The Red Comet of My Youth - Chapter 1
by Shūichi Ikeda
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This post will be an overview of the first chapter, Steps to Becoming an Actor.
Please note this isn't a full summary by any means, just a highlight of parts I found interesting. Very long post under the cut!
Tumblr media
Shūichi Ikeda was born on December 2, 1949 in Numabukuro in Nakano Ward, Tokyo. Growing up in the years after World War II, Ikeda recalls that although the scars of the war still remained here and there, the entire country was filled with an upwards surging momentum that could be described as "hope after a long period of suffering".
In 1958, he was invited by a friend to join Komadori Theater Company (劇団こまどり). Founded in 1948, it was a prestigious children's theater company that later produced many famous actors, including familiar names like Maaya Sakamoto, Daisuke Namikawa, and Ikeda's wife, Sakiko Tamagawa. He passed the entrance exam and started his career as an actor at only eight years old.
Along with movies, radio had a large presence in popular entertainment in those days. The first experience that Ikeda and the other child actors had was with radio dramas, broadcast on NHK radio. In elementary school, it was his daily routine to go to the NHK studio after school. There he co-starred with popular talents of the time.
In a funny side note, Ikeda recalls fond memories of the bento lunches they had at the studio. The rank of the bento changed depending on the rank of the actor with whom he was working. One particular instance he noted was how when the famous Musei Tokugawa starred in a lead role, lunch was eel bento, a rare delicacy back then.
As time went on, TV dramas became more popular, and Ikeda was offered his first role on television only three months after he joined Komadori. It was a simple role - a child crying in the corner in the background of a shot - but he remembers it fondly as a memorable first step into the world of acting.
Tumblr media
In his junior high days, Ikeda starred in Gashintare (がしんたれ), a TV adaptation of the autobiography of playwright Kazuo Kikuta, and the movie Robō no Ishi (路傍の石, "Roadside Stone"), two works that made him seriously consider the job of "actor" for the first time.
In this chapter, Ikeda also talks about his relationship with famed Japanese film actor Yūjirō Ishihara. The two met as co-stars on the TV drama Shi no Hakubutsushi - Chīsaki Tatakai (死の博物誌 – 小さき闘い, The Natural History of Death – A Small Battle). Ikeda says he was immediately struck by his aura the moment he entered the rehearsal room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ikeda recalls how on set, Ishihara jokingly addressed him as “Shū-sensei”, as a nod to the fact Ikeda was much more experienced with TV dramas, despite being much younger.
“Shū-sensei, you're a junior high school student, but you’re more senior than me as a TV actor, aren't you?”
In response, Ikeda replied,
“Well then, I'll call you Yu-sensei. On TV, I may be the sensei, but if I appear in a movie with you, please be the sensei.”
Ikeda fondly remembers him as a star that never faded no matter how much time had passed. Sadly, Ishihara passed away July 17th, 1985, and he never got the chance to film on a movie set with him.
In his words, “Even now, I keep in mind the way of life as an actor that Yujiro-san taught me. And I still call out to him...as Yu-sensei.”
Tumblr media
In the spring of 1964, Ikeda began his role as the star of Jiro Monogatari (次郎物語), a TV drama based on the novel of the same name. The story depicts Japan in the early Shōwa period as seen from the perspective of Jiro Honda, a boy of a former samurai family.
The show was a hit among viewers of all ages, and ended up running as a nationally broadcast drama for two years. However, due to the popularity, from that point forward in his childhood acting career, Ikeda was typecast as a similar character - or as he refers to it, the image of “Jiro Shonen”, “a boy in a kasuri kimono”.
Ikeda was around 24 or 25 years old when Kohei Miyauchi asked him if he would be interested in doing voice-over work. The role was in a one-shot overseas drama for NHK about a group of three train robbers. Ikeda remembers struggling to adjust, thinking it might not be the best fit after all.
Tumblr media
Soon after he was offered a role in André Cayatte's Mourir d'aimer as the dub voice for Bruno Pradal. At first he was hesitant, but accepted after finding out he would be alongside Tomoko Naraoka (dubbing Annie Girardot), whom he had worked with earlier in his career during his time as a child actor.
Ikeda recalls how this experience helped change his perspective on voice over work.
"Rather than trying to match the voice of the actor on the screen or strictly matching the actual lip-syncing, I felt how the actor and director put together the character, and translated that atmosphere into Japanese-style acting."
After appearing as a voice actor in other overseas dramas, a new opportunity arose. The person who approached him was Kazuya Tatekabe, of Doraemon fame. The two became friends and often went drinking with their fellow co-stars after work.
Tumblr media
It was Tatekabe who introduced Ikeda to Noriyoshi Matsuura, who worked as an editor and sound director on various anime. Through some gentle persuading, he convinced Ikeda to give anime a try (while drunk, he admits), specifically the character Radik in Invincible Steel Man Daitarn 3.
However, Ikeda found the speed of the process and inability to preview the material beforehand (like he was used to with film voice overs) overwhelming. He remembers thinking, "this is my first and last anime".
Despite this, Matsuura convinced him to give one more audition a try, with the promise they could go for drinks afterwards. Ikeda agreed, though wasn't enthusiastic about it.
...That audition was for the role of Amuro Ray in the upcoming anime Mobile Suit Gundam.
Tumblr media
~
That's all for Chapter 1! I'll continue with these posts for each chapter as I go. Of course I recommend checking out the book for yourself if possible as I've left out a lot of content here for brevity.

Very Subjective Comments on literary prose in danmei and cnovels
again just reposting an answer i wrote for record just dismiss it
Truthfully I don't generally find chinese web novels very well written. Outside danmei I've read web novels like Nirvana in Fire, The Longest Day in Chang'An, and Joy of Life, and while personal enjoyment level varies I did not find the writing literary, or the writing particularly good for any of them.
The same goes for danmei web novels. Some of them do have good writing, (all subjective of course), but the ones I marked with good prose are scantily few. These would include Before and After Marriage, Meng Xi Shi, 不问三九, 潭石, 三三娘, 静影沉璧; I also enjoyed the prose of Encountering a Snake and 2ha, but people have said to hate the prose so this is really subjective haha.
Prose which I'd say is good (subjective??) would be Dream of the Red Chamber, Jin Yong's wuxia novels (it's lively enough to be good for me), Yu Guangzhong, Qian Zhongshu's writings, etc., and many more of these san wen authors because their prose usually flows pretty well.
I've recently counted the number of unique chinese characters some of the danmei uses, it is by no means indicative of good prose but if you would like to use it for reference, here you go: https://fateandloveentwined.tumblr.com/post/724325933336625152/number-of-unique-chinese-characters-in-a-book
Note: I sometimes dabble in fanfiction circles -- some of the writing on lofter (chinese site akin to tumblr) has really good prose, especially for the Thousand Autumns fandom, I'm amazed haha anyway.
If one wishes for actual opinions:
MXTX -- same as Nirvana in Fire, prose isn't bad but is not very good either.
Priest -- a little less refined but still again, not bad at all.
Mu su li -- same as MXTX.
Meatbun -- I've read 2ha and Remnants of Filth -- the prose for the latter imo is not as good.
Yan Liangyu -- same as Priest.
Honestly? I've been conscious of my reading of "trashy romance fluff" in the past but I no longer care. I enjoy reading it, and it brings me much relieve from the hectic day, so why feel bad about my choice of fiction xD (Classics? yeah I'm getting to them, slowly.)

The Beginning of a Destiny
"Yu Yu Hakusho 100% Maji Battle" Botan Event
This event was first held on July 6th, 2020. Some of the lines are from episode 67, the beginning of the Black Chapter Arc.
Tumblr media
Botan's friend Rena, a fellow shinigami, talks about the "hard" task of guiding the human souls to the Spirit World. Meanwhile, Koenma calls Botan due to strange reports from unusual activity in the Human World, and she reminisces about the day she disguised as a fortune teller and became the assistant of the spirit detective.

Tumblr media
"The Beginning of a Destiny"
Tumblr media
Botan: Wow! You guided 20 people to the Spirit World this month?
Tumblr media
Botan: I know it's just a job and all, but I can't help feeling the transience of human existence.
Tumblr media
Rena: Really?
T/N: the chinese character on Rena's forehead is "死" (shi), it means "death".
Tumblr media
Rena: When I announce to a boy who is my type that he is going to die, I am the happiiiiiest!
Tumblr media
Announcement: Botan-san, Botan-san. Koenma-sama is calling you.
Tumblr media
Koenma: Mm-hmm.
Tumblr media
Botan: It's Botan. I'm coming in.
Tumblr media
Koenma: Mm-hmm.
Tumblr media
Botan: Oh, are you constipated, Koenma-sama?
Tumblr media
Koenma: Bonehead! I was just thinking!
Tumblr media
Koenma: There have been reports of unusual activity taking place in the Human World...
Tumblr media
Botan: Are you sure you're not just anticipating problems again?
Tumblr media
Botan: Ever since the Dark Tournament, youkai have been quiet.
Tumblr media
Botan: I miss the days when I had just become a detective assistant.
Tumblr media
Botan: Come to think of it, during my first mission, I was disguised as a fortune teller...
[Botan's flashback]
Tumblr media
Fortune Teller: Even so...
Tumblr media
Fortune Teller: I'm surprised you captured the culprit before I gave you the order...
Tumblr media
Fortune Teller: You are fully qualified to be a spirit detective!
[End of flashback]
Tumblr media
Koenma: ...Hey! Do you hear me, Botan!
Tumblr media
Botan: Eh...? Ye-yes!
Tumblr media
Koenma: Hmmm, I don't know. This kind of thing has never happened before!
Tumblr media
Koenma: Botan, get in contact with Yusuke immediately, and dispatch the spirit detective to the scene!
Tumblr media
Botan: Yesssssssssss! Spirit Detective Assistant Botan, ready to go!
-The End-
Botan is too cute as a fortune teller. I like Rena, I am glad she had more space in the anime. What's her type of man? 😂
I wish we knew more about Botan's co-workers. I wonder if there are any male shinigami at the Spirit World.

Thanks for answering my ask and sorry if I ask too much.....Thanks for your blog... Love reading them....
if you don't mind me asking (again), can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from TGCF? And why do you love them? And your top 5 (or top 3) favorite moments from the novel? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....
Feel free whenever you want to answer....Again sorry if I ask too much, if you mind, I will not ask again.....Thanks if you want to answer...
Lol don’t worry, I figured this one was on the way after svsss. So tgcf version!
1) Xie Lian: he’s just been through so much, but he still has time to be an asshole (loving) to his friends 😭
2) Hua Cheng: he’s such an under-appreciated good person. Know how I know? He didn’t punch the guoshi’s throat out when that dick told him that he blamed the kingdom of Xianle’s downfall on him as a child, knowing good and goddamn well that Jun Wu was pulling the strings
3) Ling Wen: she literally brought heaven to its knees by not doing her job, queen shit
4) Yushi Huang: everything about her is compelling, from her backstory of being an unwanted princess to being the most irreplaceable god to the point of Jun Wu fearing revealing his actions to her… I love her
5) Imma be honest, I don’t have a singular character for this because I actually like a whole bunch of the cast: Feng Xin and the tragedy of being unfailingly loyal but always being cast aside by his loved ones “for his own good,” He Xuan coming in clutch with that intricate, centuries-long fucking revenger plan that had him pretending to be the best friend of the man who stole his life, Shi Qingxuan: the man who stole He Xuan’s life and his whole character arc of rightfully losing both his brother and his life and still being a good person after that, Lang Qianqiu and his puppy energy, Yin Yu and his “I may be a petty jealous bitch but I’m not a thief or a murderer” speech… tgcf just has a really great cast.
Favorite scenes:
1) Hualian’s confession scene in the cave, made all the sweeter by the fuckshit Feng Xin and Mu Qing tried to pull right before
2) Xie Lian at the end while he waited for Hua Cheng to return. I never cried at the end of any mxtx novel, but that one almost got me
3) “Fu Yao” and “Nan Feng” try to force San-lang to reveal his “real” identity, but San-lang keeps turning it back on them while Xie Lian watches in exasperation and amusement since he already knows who everyone is
4) HE XUAN’S REVEAL, HOLY FUCK
5) The Tonglu Mountain arc, I just love all the intersecting stories and goals that happen there

Xie Yun x ????
I'm doing this to appreciate Xie Yun (DD's costume character) and GG's many costume characters and then see who to ship him with. I did a lot of research on these characters, don't kill me if they are wrong...
Xie Yun or "Xiao Chuan". In appearance, he is cynical, arrogant, conceited, casual, coward, relaxed and talkative of nonsense. But, in reality, he has his own world and is wise, analytical, tolerant, brave, skillful and loyal. He is the prince of Duan of Nan Chao. Likes to drink alcohol. (he is an angel)
So, I don't know with who Xie Yun (Leyend of Fei) can married. 😂😂😂😂😂
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian is ruled out because he is Lan Wangji's husband and Xie Yun is the possible son of the couple. 😏😏😏
Tumblr media
So, we have a list of the following suitors, their works and their personalities
Yang Bingyun (Joy of life) a determined, cold, serious and handsome man. Son of an established family, a powerful minister and a double agent. (Wow man)
Tumblr media
Zhang Xiaofan (Jade Dynasty) is a cultivator. Is a determined, loyal, pure, simple, cute and brave man. He cooking and practice meditation. He was possessed for demoniac cultivation... (Poor thing)
Tumblr media
Ji Chong or "Li Ju Yao" (The Wolf) before was a prince and a young general, now a bounty hunter. Is a sincere, loyal, rigtheous, brave, wise, flirtatious, teasing and sexy man. He likes drink alcohol (don't let it show that I have a crush with him)
Tumblr media
Beitang Moran (Oh! My Emperor) has the power to predict the future. Is a calm, smooth, confident, loyal and pretty man. Play the Guqin (like LWJ). The keeper of constellation Aquarius.
Tumblr media
Lin Xiuya (Fight Break Sphere) Leader of the "Wolf's Teeth" forces. He is an expert in hunting magical beasts. He is joy, kindness, respectful, hard working and handsome man. (I call him Rapunzel)
Tumblr media
Tang San (Douluo Continent) is a Soul Master. Is very calm, witty, serene, kind, thoughtful, selfless and beautiful man. He always calculates everything before acting. (I love this character)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shi Ying (Yu Gu Yao Novel ver.) The Grand Priest of Jiu Yi Shan, also the Prince, later Crown Prince then Lord of Kong Sang. He appears cold, he is decisive and cares a lot about his nation. He is very strong, the second strongest in the land of Yun Huang. A genius who invents many of his own spells. He had many painful moments in his life, from people around him. Had a one-sided love. He can read people's mind

best dramas I’ve watched so far in 2021 (and some not so good ones) part 1 out of god knows how many
Word of Honor - based on danmei novel Faraway Wanderers by Priest. The gayest thing I’ve seen in my entire life. Exhilarating story line, excellent villains, tight fast pace with no screen time wasted. Superbly acted by the entire cast. Emotionally devastating and devastatingly rewarding. Budget of two pieces of string and duct tape. A drama I will be obsessed with for at least the next two years and then some. 11/10
Nirvana In Fire - based on historical novel Lang Ya Bang by Hai Yan. Every drama I’ve ever watched and rated 10/10 has been downgraded. This is, hands down, the best drama I’ve ever watched in my life. The plot, the acting, the characters, the goddamn ending, everything in this drama will ruin you. As someone else said, the only problem with Nirvana In Fire is that there are no other dramas like Nirvana In Fire. 10000/10
Dance of the Sky Empire - based on wuxia/xianxia novel of the same name by Bu Fei Yan. Short and entertaining. This drama is like a light, sweet snack. You can probably expect to be hungry an hour later. It starts off with excellent potential for complexity and growth, but then… nothing really happens. Mediocre budget. Good found family tropes. Xu Kai does a decent job, but hardly even stretches his acting muscles. 5/10
The Lost Tomb: Ultimate Note - based on Grave Robbers’ Chronicles by Xu Lei. Honestly, I put off watching this because I was sure it wouldn’t be as captivating as the Sound of Providence, so I didn’t wanna end up disappointed. I was wrong. It is amazing. At no point did the different cast throw me off; absolutely incredible job done by everyone involved. Visually stunning, intricate plot, excellent horror elements. Ends in a cliffhanger so be wary if it’s the only season you plan to consume. If Xiao Ge is your weak spot, this season will fuck you up hard. 9/10
The Lost Tomb (2015) - based on Grave Robbers’ Chronicles by Xu Lei. The first, and by many accounts, the most shoddily done season of the Lost Tomb. That said, I love it to pieces. Wu Xie wears a studded belt like it’s 2009, and Xiao Ge has peak emo hair. Prime pingxie fanfic material. Absolutely ridiculous and enormously entertaining. A an absolute gem of a drama that deserves a cult following. 8/10
The Legends - based on xianxia novel Ostentatious Zhao Yao by Jiu Lu Fei Xiang. This meandered to hades and back, multiple times, for the entirety of the 56 episodes. Beautiful visuals, set designs, and choreography. Depressing as fuck. An emotional rollercoaster that Love and Redemption can only dream about, without the bonus of the happy ending. I was mentally numb to every aspect of it by episode 40. However, Xu Kai is pretty amazing in this role, and this drama is the sole reason why I’m willing to fancast him as Hua Cheng, so take from that what you will. 6/10
Douluo Continent- based on xuanhuan novel Douluo Dalu by Tang Jia San Shao. Probably the most entertaining, fast paced drama I’ll watch this year. Interesting premise and a plot that doesn’t meander. Contains the first het couple I’ve been invested in so far this year. Immensely satisfying found family tropes, plethora of female characters, relatively satisfying ending, especially considering that season 2 is uncertain, and may not have the same cast. 9/10
Still in the process of watching:
My Roommate is a Detective
Detective L
The Lost Tomb 2
Looking forward to:
Immortality - based on danmei novel The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by 肉包不吃肉 starring Chen Feiyu and Luo Yunxi
Winner Is King - based on the danmei novel Sha Po Lang by Priest starring Tan Jianci and Chen Zheyuan
Step By Step Lotus - based on historical novel Return to Ming Dynasty as Prince by 月关 starring Zhang Binbin and Luo Yunxi
The Wind Blows From Longxi - based on historical novel of the same name by Ma Bo Yong starring Chen Kun and Bai Yu
Sword Snow Stride - based on the xuanhuan novel The Snowy Path of the Heroic Blade by 烽火戏诸侯 starring Zhang Ruoyun and Hu Jun
Heaven Official’s Blessing - based on danmei novel of the same name by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu - cast unknown
Thousand Autumns - based on danmei novel of the same name by Meng Xi Shi - cast unknown
Joy Of Life Season 2 - based on wuxia novel of the same name by 猫腻 starring Zhang Ruoyun and Li Qin
A League of Nobleman - based on danmei novel The Society of Four Leaves by Da Feng Gua Guo starring Song Weilong and Jing Boran

Hi, lise....How are you? If you don't mind me asking, what are your favorite moments from novels tgcf and svsss (top 5 or top 3 from each novel)? And why? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....
Oooh, fun question.
I’m going to cheat here and only answer from TGCF because otherwise it would just be too much work (and also because, since I just reread and have read it more, my memory of that one is better).
okay let’s see here.
introducing Hua Cheng! with a carefully choreographed entrance he’s been planning for centuries. This meaning his entrance before he actually introduces himself as San Lang, of course, because while that is also great it’s not quiteas perfectly dramatique as his Ghost Bridegroom performance. well done, sir, well done
when Xie Lian automatically responds to applause while fighting undead brides by asking for money. like there’s the sad part about it but also...it is funny
the pain that is Xie Lian’s sheer indifference to physical harm to himself once You Know because...yeah! woof! I mean I have a general thing about...characters with weird relationships to pain because trauma and hoo boy does Xie “well if I don’t die it’s fine and I can’t die so it’s always fine!” Lian have that going on.
Hua Cheng with Fu Yao and Nan Feng in Banyue. honestly Hua Cheng with Mu Qing and Feng Xin at any time, but especially during that period of time where no one is admitting who they are even though everybody knows who everybody else is. Hua Cheng just having a grand time fucking with the other two.
the Xianle Trio’s relationships, generally, but honestly especially everything Mu Qing does. Mu Qing, generally, actually. Mu Qing does something and I’m like “yeah, love to see it”
Quan Yizhen frantically stuffing gold bars into Xie Lian’s offering box to thank him for cutting off bad play mocking shixiong because he’s kinda like that
in general just Quan Yizhen’s shixiong brain and his relationship with Yin Yu. side plot that I would read as a main plot? there’s like six of them in here and this is one of them
poor Xie Lian’s panic after his first kiss, ever. he’s just so distressed and overwhelmed and confused about it, it’s adorable.
the Black Water Arc in total, but especially the confrontation with Shi Wudu, Shi Qingxuan, and He Xuan in Nether Water Manor. it’s got everything! impossible choices! betrayal! “you called the wrong name!”, manual beheadings! what more could you want from an arc tbh
Yin Yu’s death scene will always get me, I mean, again, everything about Yin Yu and Quan Yizhen really does it for/to me, and this as a...well, not final conclusion but certainly pretty final-feeling at the time is. very good. and Yin Yu’s last words to Xie Lian...breaking my heart, man.
Xie Lian calling Ling Wen for help dealing with Ling Wen
the fucking...confession in the cave of ten thousand statues. just...Hua Cheng so ready to be rejected! they’re so sweet, they’re so sweet with each other and it just. fuckin’ kills me. I’m not usually a big romance person actually but...that’s romance, baby
but also just...Hua Cheng in the cave of ten thousand statues generally?
like...all of Book 4 honestly but to choose a couple specific moments...
Bai Wuxiang ‘comforting’ Xie Lian. like, everything about Bai Wuxiang’s relationship with Xie Lian in Book 4 is mmmm tasty but especially dear to my heart are the parts where he’s like. I’m your only friend :) :) :) it’s creepy and awful and I’m into it
the fucking...chapter 190 temple scene. fucking. yeah. I got nothing ok
just...I love a good downward spiral, I really do, and Book 4 is basically Book 4: The Downward Spiral so
on from flashback-land! “do it yourself” slkjdslkjdflksdjf YEAH also just thinking about He Xuan just...lurking around in a Hua Cheng costume that whole time. what is going on in his head, what is he thinking, I just want to know these things
Mu Qing’s conversation with Xie Lian on the Heaven-Crossing Bridge! I knew I loved this one but I had forgotten how much until I reread but ohhhh boy there’s a lot there and I love all of it. Mu Qing’s envy, and his belief that others will always believe the worst of him, and in the end just...finally owning up to wanting to be Xie Lian’s friend even though he has to fight to get the words out. Mu Qing I love you and I want only the best for you
the end of Jun Wu. I...kinda want to write more detailed meta about this at some point? but I feel like...god, when I talk about endings that respect their villains this is one of the ones I think of. and it has such a gentleness to it, which fits with Xie Lian perfectly. it is actually very important to me that Jun Wu doesn’t die at the end. it’s even more important to me that Xie Lian gives him the bamboo hat before he walks away.
Jun Wu has been trying to sculpt Xie Lian into his mirror image this whole time (or maybe not! maybe somewhere he wanted to be proven wrong, I think both can be sort of true), but in the end it’s Xie Lian who turns the mirror back on him.
if that phrasing makes any sense at all! but yeah, it’s just...boy, thanks mxtx you did good things for me and I’m very grateful
anyway I love TGCF very much, donghua season 2 when
