Less: It seems like yesterday when we started talking and you posted Abe & Oscar's profiles and I remember being one of the first to interact with, and ever since you've been such a kind and patient friend and I see you now as some sort of big sister, deal with it 🫶🏻 thank you for deciding to join our little community, because your presence is just what we needed ❤
Annie: It's not a secret that I was at first intimidated when I started following you: you had such compelling characters and cool af videos and here I was, a little guy! But I am so thamkful of having talked to you through Sara and convinced Gryff for you to join our chat, even though you're not there anymore. I treasure our friendship and you and Gryff are now my oldest sisters 🫶🏻 Gryffie wedding when!!!
Gryff: I was intimidated by you too ajhsjssj. You had such cool gifs and content and interesting characters, and I had just started into the OC x OC world, but being your friend during these past years has been a true boon, and I hope to have gained an oldest sister who I can count on and have either a laugh or a very deep conversation. Te quiero, hermana 🫶🏻
Persie: Who would've thought I'd grow to love you so much and become such a close friend? To me, you're the little sister I've always dreamt of having. We can go from making fun of each other, to argue and then proceed to simp for our ocs and blorbos. Thank you for being an awesome friend and being there for me when I needed it ❤ J'et aime, cherie
Al: I've always looked up to you as a writer and a person, and despite being a bit intimidated by you as well, you have turned out to be a great advisor and inspiration for me! Also, you're officially the adventurous wine aunt 🫶🏻 I hope we can do something ourselves in the near future (i'm not exaggerating when I say it'd be a dream come true 🫶🏻)
Lily: Though, because of irl stuff, we haven't interacted much, you were always a great and supportive friend and I constantly feel inspired by you, not to mention that I found a fellow Choicenator here! (even tho chonces is now a dumpster fire but it's ours) and I always remember you fondly 🥺🫶🏻 love uuuu
Arrow: You gave me the impression of someone who was stoic, but once I got to know you through our two ships, getting to know your passionate side, your humour and your wicked wit has been a delight and I look forward to see what you're up to and start writing Aderva's story and get to share it with you 🤎
Kate: We have interacted little (I'm socially awkward and crap at managing friendships :c) I'm constantly in awe with your writing and creativity, and I always learn something new about you and from you, and it is such a privilege 🫶🏻
Sky: You were one of the first people to approach me, and getting to know you through our ships and the chat has been a privilege. You were responsible of me joining the fandom and I'm always in awe with your creativity and how passionate and intelligent you are, and I hope we can get up to more shenanigans together, even if lately we haven't been good at catching up 🫶🏻 you will always have a special place in my heart for showing me the best community ever 🥰
Guzma: You have been the surprise of the year! Getting to know you, talk to you through vc and creating our own verse in the founders era and our 2 am chats have been the highlight of my 2022-2023 and I look forward to getting up to more mischief with you 🫶🏻
Kaze: I think you're the one user I was most intimidated by 😅 you are such a big and respected blog, for a while I didn't have the courage to talk to you, but finding out how sweet, friendly and fun you are has been such a privilege! Like with many others, I'm always learning from you, as well as giving me inspo and motivation to better my writing and as a person 🥰 I look forward sharing something with you! I know I'll have a blast 🥳
Honourable mentions:
@cursedvaultss Alys: You're still new here, but show much promise to our little family! You're so sweet and creative, and I know that soon you'll get far here 🫶🏻 looking forward seeing what you'll do!
@nicos-oc-hell Nico: At first I was unsure of how to proceed with you, but finding out how many things in common we have and your killer sense of humour have been a great surprise! I am always laughing or smiling when I talk to you, and I feel very safe with you 🫶🏻
@mjs-oc-corner Mo: At first I was a bit afraid of talking to you, but you've proven to be funny, badass, super sweet and one of the greatest friends I've got here and, despite having little interactions, I treasure them all just like I treasure you ❤ love uuu hermanita 🥰
@that-scouse-wizard JD: Tbh, I was even more scared of talking to you (I struggle to talk to men in general ksjdjsmaks) but these past months you've been the funniest, sweetest and one of my best surprises this year, and Flossie and Frediette have my entire heart 🫶🏻
@kathrynalicemc Lari: Last but not least, you're probably one of the closest friend here, and talking to you makes my day. You've become very special to me and getting to share stories and shenanigans with you is always a boon to me ❤ thank you for being the absolute best and so you know, te quiero muchisisisisímo, mi mas querida hermana 😘

Cleopatra Sara Rai Hexley
Cleo Hexley transferred to Hogwarts School from Ilvermorny for her NEWTs, with dreams of becoming a magical art historian and anthropologist. It soon transpired, however, that the majority of Cleo’s peers were more interested in her face than her mind. After she grew tired of being the face of the Egwu fashion house, Cleo embarked on a career as a tour guide for Globus Mundi Wizarding Travel Agents, where she was able to use her looks, charms, and knowledge, all at once.
Tumblr media

Appearance
Height: as an adult, 5’9”
Weight: as an adult, 58kg
Hair: dark brown, almost black, thick, wavy-curly.
Eyes: brown with a ring of green around pupil.
Skin: brown.
Defects: none.
Style: Varies - Cleo receives many gifts of clothing from wizarding fashion outlets, which means that she is easily able to keep up with the latest trends. At home, she will wear whatever she feels most comfortable in, which is usually either lounge/sportswear or loose-fitting clothes made from light, floaty materials.
Faceclaim: Simone Ashley
Witchcraft
Wand: Cherry and Wampus Cat Hair
This very rare wand wood creates a wand of strange power, most highly prized by the wizarding students of the school of Mahoutokoro in Japan, where those who own cherry wands have special prestige. The Western wand-purchaser should dispel from their minds any notion that the pink blossom of the living tree makes for a frivolous or merely ornamental wand, for cherry wood often makes a wand that possesses truly lethal power, whatever the core.
Animagus form: none.
Patronus: bat.
Boggart: the floor beneath her turns into a view from a great height.
Riddikulus: none - Cleo has found that the best way to get rid of her Boggart is to jump/step on it.
Amortentia (what does she smell?): Cleo has never smelt amortentia before.
Amortentia (what does she smell like?): amber, ink, wisteria, speculoos.
Magical abilities: Occlumency.
At Ilvermorny
Ilvermorny House: Thunderbird
Best subjects: Magical Theory, History of Magic, Ancient Studies
Worst Subjects: Flying (Cleo has an extreme fear of heights!)
At Hogwarts
Hogwarts House: none, temporary student.
Best subject(s): History of Magic, Muggle Studies
Worst subject(s): none - Cleo arrived in the N.E.W.T. year and only chose subjects that she enjoyed/was good at.
N.E.W.T. Subjects: History of Magic, Ancient Runes, Muggle Studies, Astronomy, Transfiguration, Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Quidditch position: none.
After Hogwarts
July 2018-February 2019: Apprentice at the Department of Magical Artefacts, British Ministry of Magic
December 2018-January 2021: Model and muse for the Egwu fashion house.
March 2021-present: tour organiser, Globus Mundi travel agency.
Relationships
Family:
Jacob Hexley (father) and Angelica Cole (mother) - Cleo’s parents separated when she was very young, but maintain a somewhat cordial relationship, if only for her sake. Cleo spent her childhood between her parents’ homes and is close with both of them, but sometimes feels as if they have too high expectations for her - she is not as academic as her father, nor is she as brave as her troll-trainer and former Quidditch champion mother, neither of whom were particularly happy with her decision to leave her career in magical artefact restoration barely after it had begun.
Sara Kowalski-Hexley (grandmother) - Cleo’s grandmother Sally is always hard to read. Though somewhat distant, she is generally affectionate to Cleo, even if she occasionally seems to put up walls around herself.
Artemis Hexley (aunt) - Cleo has only met her aunt a handful of times, but she has heard plenty of stories about her from her father.
Quentin Kowalski (second cousin) - cousin Quentin is a Quidditch prodigy, the youngest ever Chaser to make the US National team. He has tried to encourage Cleo onto a broom many times, never with much success.
Friends:
Rylie Hopper-Lee - Rylie was tasked with looking after Cleo when she first arrived at Hogwarts, and the two bonded over their love of art, history, ancient runes, and ice cream @thatravenpuffwitch
Danielle Parkin - Dana was the first person to make a point of introducing herself to Cleo, and after discovering a mutual love of trashy romance novels, became book sharing buddies @lifeofkaze
Zadie Taylor-Allen and Victoire Weasley - Cleo and Victoire vaguely knew each other through their families, and both she and Zadie were always pleasant to Cleo during her time at Hogwarts, unlike one of their friends…
Andre Egwu - Cleo was ‘discovered’ by the head designer of the Egwu fashion house at sixteen, and after agreeing to the occasional fashion shoot to get a bit of extra pocket money, eventually signed up to work for him as a full-time model, having grown tired of no one taking her seriously in the field she was working in. Though he is somewhat judgemental, Cleo appreciates Andre’s ability to see and say things as they are, and he quickly became a sort of surrogate uncle figure to her.
Love interests: None, yet.
Pets: Cleo’s father owns a few owls, but she has no pets herself.
Rivals:
Rory McTavish - Rory is just the worst, honestly. Cleo doesn’t understand what Rylie sees in him.
Reva Amari - Reva and Cleo have absolutely nothing in common, and so a close friendship was never on the cards. Unfortunately, Reva seemed to take Cleo’s disinterest personally. @lifeofkaze
Duncan Ludwig - Duncan and Cleo immediately got off on the wrong foot after Duncan decided to prank her shortly after arriving at Hogwarts. He was nothing but friendly to her after that, but Cleo hasn’t been able to trust him since. @usernoneexistent
Ancestry: as the daughter of Jacob Hexley, Cleo is the descendent of Jim and Héloïse Hexley, Ophelia Burke, and Jacob and Queenie Kowalski. Via her French lineage, she is a direct descendant of Morgan Le Fay.

Witchcraft
Wand: Redwood with a unicorn hair core, 12” and unyielding flexibility
Wand-quality redwood is in short supply, yet constant demand, due to its reputation for bringing good fortune to its owner. As is usually the case with wandlore, the general populace have the truth back to front: redwood wands are not themselves lucky, but are strongly attracted to witches and wizards who already possess the admirable ability to fall on their feet, to make the right choice, to snatch advantage from catastrophe. The combination of such a witch or wizard with a redwood wand is always intriguing, and I generally expect to hear of exciting exploits when I send this special pairing out from my workshop.
Animagus: n/a

Boggart: A wailing banshee.
Riddikulus: The banshee’s cloak blows up to reveal several nifflers balancing unsteadily on each other’s shoulders.

Thank you for the ask! Here’s a little story about Cleo Hexley meeting @lifeofkaze’s Henry Lovecraft.
Tumblr media
The Secret to History
The school bell echoed in Cleo’s ears, pulling her out of her slumber. She lifted her head from the desk and blinked. Around her, the other students were packing their quills and books away and starting to leave the classroom. Cleo sighed heavily and followed suit, leaving Professor Binns to continue his lecture alone, not having realised that his lesson had ended and his students had all gone.
She walked through the halls of the castle in the direction of the library, her annoyance growing as she put more space between herself and the History of Magic classroom. She had assumed that with being such an old school - centuries older than Ilvermorny - Hogwarts would be a far better place to study when it came to history. Instead, she spent the majority of her time in her History of Magic classes trying and failing to stay awake while Professor Binns droned on in his monotone voice, and the hours following the class attempting to teach herself whatever it was that she was supposed to have learnt in that time.
While her peers - those who presumably didn’t want to be Runologists when they were older - settled themselves into the Great Hall for the evening feast, Cleo settled herself into a quiet corner of the library, surrounded by piles of books.
“Well, hello there,” said a voice. Cleo turned her head to look either side of herself, but could see no one there. “I don’t believe that we’ve met before.”
The voice was not disembodied for long. Cleo stopped frowning in confusion as a ghost floated through a nearby bookcase.
“No, we haven’t,” Cleo told him. “I’m new here. Sort of. I’m an exchange student.”
“From Ilvermorny, I expect. I recognise that accent,” replied the ghost, and Cleo thought she could pick up a trace of an accent in his voice, too. He held out his hand to her, and Cleo instinctively reached out to shake it. Her fingers went straight through the ghost’s, and he chuckled. “My name’s Henry. Henry Lovecraft.”
“Mine’s Cleo, Cleo Hexley.”
“But of course it is.”
“I’m sorry?”
“I should have known that you were a Hexley from looking at you. After all, I’ve watched generations of your family walk these hallowed halls in the time I’ve been here.”
“I see.” Cleo’s teeth grazed her lower lip. “If you don’t mind my asking… How long have you been here, exactly?”
“Only a hundred years or so. Not as long as some,” said Henry, and he looked curiously at the book open on the table in front of Cleo. “What are you reading?”
“Oh, nothing much. It’s just a history book.”
“Just history?”
“I’m trying to teach myself the curriculum,” Cleo explained, and Henry’s lip twitched slightly. “It’s really not that interesting.”
Henry looked aghast. “Not that interesting?”
“I just mean that it’s remembering lists of dates and facts, that’s all.”
“Miss Hexley. Cleo. May I call you Cleo?” Henry asked. Cleo nodded, and Henry hovered over the seat opposite her. “There is far more to history than dates and facts. It is the secrets and stories of times gone by, of people who have lived through such times. If you look and listen closely, you can still see and hear these stories etched and echoed in the present.”
“That’s great. Real great,” said Cleo. “But I don’t see that echoes of stories of days gone by are going to help me pass the end of term exams.”
“You are missing my point.”
“Okay, so what is your point?”
“That history isn’t supposed to be learnt, it is supposed to be explored,” Henry told her. “Yes, it can teach you things, this is true, but what it teaches are not the sort of things you should - or even can - be tested on.”
“They aren’t?”
“No, these lessons are too great for that. I’m talking about learning about yourself, and about the world around you and people in it, both as they were and as they are now.”
“I guess that kind of makes sense,” Cleo nodded.
“I should hope so. I’ve had a century to consider the subject, after all, and access to all the books I could ever want to read about it. I could help you find some that you might find more interesting, if you like.”
Cleo smiled at Henry before closing her book and rising from her seat. She followed him through the labyrinth of shelves that made up the library, her fingers running over the spines of the books they held, listening to him tell her a story of a time long ago.

Jump Scare
A drabble for Jacob’s daughter Cleo, whose birthday it is today. Sorry I couldn’t get your profile ready in time, blame your demanding aunt.
Warnings: fear of heights.
Tumblr media
Cleo made her way through the Magical History section of the library, her fingers running over the spines of the books on the shelves as if they might guide her to the book she wanted. The library was dimly lit and almost deathly quiet, the only sound coming from her own footsteps and the gentle creaks of the floorboards beneath her.
But as Cleo reached the end of the row of shelves and turned the corner, the creaking floorboards ended abruptly, and she found herself looking down into a gaping chasm. It was as if something large and heavy had crashed through the floor and plummeted deep into the earth below, so far down that Cleo couldn’t see an end to where it had fallen.
Her pulse racing, Cleo stepped back from the edge of the abyss. But, when she turned to leave, the floor of the aisle she had just been walking down had also disappeared. She was now standing alone on a tiny island of floor, hovering over a seemingly endless drop.
It had to be a spell of some kind, so Cleo’s hand reached for her wand, and she held it in front of her, gripping it so tightly in her sweaty palm that she could feel her heartbeat in her fingertips.
“Finite incantatem,” she said, in a voice that sounded a lot more confident than she had expected. Still, though she had somehow managed to cast the spell without her fear showing in her voice, the incantation didn’t work. She frowned, and tried again. “Revelio!”
Again, nothing. Cleo wrapped her arms around the front of her chest and shuddered, still considering what her next move should be. It was difficult to think rationally, when she was standing all alone, teetering on the edge of a great height. She swallowed hard. She hated heights. They were probably the thing that scared her most in the whole world.
As soon as the thought had come into her mind, a realisation hit Cleo. Of course! The very thing she was most scared of. She raised her wand once more, and pointed it at the expanse of space below her.
“Riddikulus.”
But even though she was certain that the hole in the floor was no more than an illusion, and that the illusion was merely a Boggart, nothing happened.
“Riddikulus!”
This time, the chasm seemed to swirl a little, as if the Boggart were thinking of changing its form. But as the air settled, the abyss reformed, just as deep and terrifying as before.
Cleo was afraid, but she wasn’t ready to admit defeat. Not yet. So, she tried again. And again. And again. But try as she might, she could not repel her Boggart.
Eventually, she lowered her wand. There was only one thing for it. She couldn’t stay here forever, after all.
“It’s only a Boggart,” she told herself. “It’s not real.”
And with that, Cleo took a deep and shaky breath, screwed her eyes shut, and jumped out into the abyss.

Might be Saturday when you get this, but since Artemis and Jacob’s relationship is on the rocks following the end of the Hexley saga, how does this affecting them as adults? Does Artemis get to know Cleo? How much of Jacob’s past/the vaults does Cleo know?
It was Saturday when I got it, but it’s Sunday now that I’m answering it. I think we’re even?
You know the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”? Well, Artemis has her own lyrics for that one, and you can guess whose name she’s put in there. Still, we can talk about Jacob, I’m just putting a cut in bc spoilers for anyone not caught up!
Yeah, THAT last twist. Sorry about that one. I really debated whether or not to go through with it. But, I figured Artemis had to lose someone else by the end. If it hadn’t been this way, someone else would’ve needed to die, and I didn’t want to kill off ANOTHER youngun. George R. R. Martin doesn’t live here. Also, I had my own symbolic reasons for Jacob’s final betrayal, which I may or may not go into one day.
Artemis and Jacob’s relationship will never recover. Not to the point that it’s meaningful, anyway. They still co-own a house, so he still has a sort of presence in her life (not that she appreciates it) but aside from that, they are two strangers who happen to be related. Artemis was 8 when Jacob left, she didn’t know the real him at that point, and though his actions saved her life, they led to him not getting to know her as an adult.
My Jacob is an interesting character because even I as his creator don’t actually know him that well. He’s a master manipulator, as much as he’d hate to admit it to himself, and a bit of a chameleon. However, I do know that he has been left with a LOT of trauma and guilt from the decisions he made as an older teen/young man, and that repressed self-loathing causes him to have a tendency towards self-sabotage as an adult, even after Cleo comes along (why do you think he and Angelica are separated?). Still, I think fatherhood is the making of him, and having Cleo in his life is the making of Jacob and probably his one saving Grace as a redeemable character.
Cleo does not know the extent of what Jacob did. Not many people do, aside from Artemis, a handful of her closest friends, and Jacob himself. Why would he tell her, or anyone? She does not really know Artemis, either. The two of them met once at a family event in America when Cleo was about 4, and again at a photography exhibition when she was 10. She only vaguely remembers Artemis, and Artemis is still trying to block out the memory of Jacob being there.

I hope you're having a great start into October <3
Thank you for the ask! This story features my next gen OC Cleo, and her new friend Rylie, who belongs to @thatravenpuffwitch.
Tumblr media
When The Rain Washes You Clean
Rylie Hopper-Lee had always been interested in other countries and cultures from around the world. When her Head of House had asked for a volunteer to be an assigned friend for the new exchange student from America, Rylie’s had been the first hand in the air. Today, the new girl had arrived, and as instructed, Rylie made her way to the headmistress’ office at the end of the day’s lessons to meet her.
“Ah, there you are,” said Professor McGonagall, the headmistress, leading Rylie across the office to her desk, where a girl around her own age was sitting quietly. “Miss Hexley, this is Rylie Hopper-Lee, who has offered to help you settle in while you’re here. Miss Hopper-Lee, this is Cleopatra Hexley.”
“It’s Cleo. Just Cleo.”
The girl who preferred to be known as “just” Cleo turned in her seat to look at Rylie. She had dark skin and hair, and was dressed fashionably, with subtle make-up enhancing her pretty features. As her large dark eyes looked her up and down, Rylie tugged at the hem of her baggy t-shirt self-consciously.
“I’ll leave you two girls to get better acquainted. Miss Hopper-Lee, perhaps you could show Miss Hexley the castle and grounds, so that she may get her bearings?”
Having been shown out of the headmistress’ office, Rylie led Cleo down the gargoyle corridor and out to the grand moving staircase beyond. The new girl did not say much, but Rylie had the distinct impression that she was being judged by her.
“Um, is there anything you’d really like me to show you first?” asked Rylie. The new girl said nothing, just shrugged. Rylie bit her lip and glanced out of the window at the dark clouds that had gathered in the sky outside. “Well, it looks like it’s going to start raining soon, so maybe we should look at the grounds first. Is that okay with you?”
Another shrug. “Sure.”
Rylie’s new “friend” was not overly talkative, and Rylie found herself speaking more and more as she took her through the grounds, pointing out anything that Cleo might find remotely interesting in the hope of starting a conversation. But, by the time they had reached the Quidditch pitch, she had gotten nothing but a few singular words, non-committal noises, and insincere smiles from the new girl. And as they climbed the steps of the Quidditch stands, Cleo became completely silent.
“So, this is the Quidditch pitch. It’s where we play Quidditch,” Rylie told her, once they reached the top of the stands, and immediately wanted to kick herself for stating the obvious. “When I say we, I mean people who are on the teams, like me. I’m a Seeker.” She smiled and asked Cleo, “Do you play Quidditch?”
“No.”
“Of course, you have Quodpot in America. Do you play Quodpot?”
“No.”
“Oh,” Rylie tried her hardest not to sigh. “Well, we only really play Quidditch here. It’s a pretty big deal, actually. Pretty much the whole school comes up here to watch the games. There’s one next weekend, actually. If you like, you could come with me and my-”
“Thanks, but no,” said Cleo. Her eyes were fixed on the sky above. Rylie followed her gaze to see that the dark clouds had gathered even more ominously.
A great rumble of thunder echoed through the air, and a split second later, the heavens opened. Raindrops larger than any Rylie had ever seen in her life began to fall down, thick and fast, hitting her upturned face.
“Um, Cleo, do you want to go back to-”
“Yes, please.”
The two girls descended the wooden steps of the Quidditch stands and ran back across the grounds to the castle, the rain falling heavier with each passing second. By the time they reached shelter, both of them were soaked to the skin, with Rylie’s hair so wet she could wring it out, and Cleo’s mascara running from her eyes.
“Okay, new plan,” said Rylie, trying to be as cheerful as possible. “We go back to the dormitory, get changed into dry clothes, and carry on the tour once we’ve warmed up a bit.”
Thankfully, Cleo agreed to Rylie’s plan. They returned to Rylie’s cosy dormitory in the Hufflepuff basement, where the new girl’s trunk had appeared at the foot of a bed that had not been there when Rylie left for breakfast that morning. She turned her back on Cleo as she got changed, and found herself some clean clothes to wear. When she turned back around, she saw that Cleo was now dressed in jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt, with her dark hair falling in loose, damp curls. She was wiping her ruined make up from her face with cotton wool whilst looking at the drawings and photos displayed on the walls.
“Is that your dog?” she asked Rylie, who nodded.
“He’s a Crup, actually. His name’s Archer.”
“Cute,” said Cleo. “And the drawings, are they yours, too?”
“Yeah.”
“Wow. They’re good. Like, seriously good.”
“Thanks,” Rylie smiled. “Do you like art, too? Because I’m in the Art Club, and if you wanted to join that, you definitely could.”
“I dunno. I’m not nearly as good as that.”
“I’m sure you’re better than you think you are. Besides, it’s not about being really good, it’s about having fun.”
Cleo frowned as if she didn’t understand the concept of enjoying something without being really good at it, but she nodded all the same.
“Sure. Sounds cool.”
“I’m in the Ancient Runes Club, too. I know that’s not cool, exactly, but-”
“You like Ancient Runes?” Cleo’s eyes lit up as Rylie nodded. “I love Ancient Runes!”
The two girls grinned at each other. Neither said anything for a few moments. Eventually, Rylie broke the silence.
“So, what do you want to do next? We could carry on the tour, or if you’d rather, we could just hang out here for a bit. I have my art stuff, so we could do that, or play a game, or chat, or there might be some magazines somewhere we could read.”
“Yes,” said Cleo. “Yes to all of that.”
Rylie laughed and walked across to the door, holding it open for Cleo.
“Come on, then,” she said, and Cleo tilted her head, her neatly shaped eyebrows furrowing.
“I thought we were going to hang out here.”
“We are,” Rylie told her. “But first, we need to go to the kitchens. We can’t have a rainy day inside without snacks, can we?”

Cleo Hexley - Six
Listen up let me tell you a story
A story that you think you've heard before
We know you know our names and our fame and our faces
Know all about the glories and the disgraces
I'm done 'cause all this time
I've been just one word in a stupid rhyme
So I picked up a pen and a microphone
History's about to get overthrown
- Ex-Wives -
My final edit for the Musical AU (as I’m sure @magicallymalted will be glad to hear) and we are finishing with Cleo and Six the musical. Covering the themes of feminism and history, there was nothing more suited to my gorgeous little nerd.

💙 Happy FFWF 💙
To ease your summer challenge FOMO and my curiosity, how about a head canon for each of your legacy kids (or all of yours if you’re feeling ambitious) and their favorite way to celebrate the summer?
Happy FFW(no longer)F! 💛 The FOMO has gotten to me. It looks like I will have 3-4 stories for the challenge after all!! I’ll still give you the headcanons, though…
Artemis - Artie loves being outside, particularly going walking/flying, camping (especially campfires!), and going to the beach.
Jacob - Jacob isn’t keen on summer because he doesn’t really like the heat. He’d rather be inside with a crossword puzzle or something anyway.
Ethel - QUIDDITCH. Also, cow spotting and cream teas.
Jim - he just loves seeing the flowers in bloom, the bright lighting, and - of course - the bees.
Héloïse - being able to read a good book in the sunshine makes up for the lack of dark night skies and the chocolate-melting heat.
Ophelia - Ophelia always liked not having to worry about her feet getting wet and cold inside her shoes as a child/teenager, but as an adult she adores summer balls. They’re an excellent excuse for being bought new jewellery.
Saffron - four words: BREAKFAST. CLUB. GLASTONBURY. FESTIVAL.
Dante - summer means parties, travel plans, and gardening. His favourite things!
Rory - …does seeing girls in bikinis count?
Zadie - summer is outdoor cinema season. Who wants to watch the Greatest Showman in a field?
Cleo - summer city breaks and fresh fruit. It’s all she wants and all she needs.
aaaaand… Mona - the newest kid on the block thinks that summer evenings are great for dogspotting and tracking down cool creatures.

Hi Al, happy fwf! How are you? I have a question? If you had to chose a song to describe each of your next gen kids what would it be?
P.s Yesterday I was looking in your blog and I noticed we shared Dante's name. My Dante is also next gen , but he is Cora's son and a hufflepuff so they don't have many things in common. This was completely unintentional, I chose the name because The Divine Comedy is one of my favourite books and I didn't know you had an Oc with this name. I can change it if you want, I am really sorry. Please don't get mad about it 😔
Nela 💜
Hi Nela! Thanks for the ask! 💛 I’m tired but very well, thanks.
I actually have a playlist almost done for my next gen kids, I just keep forgetting to finish and post it! However, if I had to pick just one song for each of them, it would be:
Saffron Summers - Ride A White Swan by T. Rex
Tumblr media
Wear a tall hat like a druid in the old days
Wear a tall hat and a tatooed gown
Ride a white swan like the people of the Beltane
Wear your hair long, babe you can't go wrong
Dante Lopez Briarwood - Let Me Entertain You by Robbie Williams
Tumblr media
I'm a burning effigy
Of everything I used to be
You're my rock of empathy, my dear
So come on let me entertain you
Rory McTavish - Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega
Tumblr media
So what can I do? I really beg you, my Lord
To me is flirting it's just like sport, anything fly
It's all good, let me dump it, please set in the trumpet
Zadie Taylor-Allen - Electricity from Billy Elliot the Musical
Tumblr media
Then suddenly I'm flying
Flying like a bird
Like electricity, electricity
Sparks inside of me
And I'm free, I'm free
Cleo Hexley - Pompeii by Bastille
Tumblr media
But if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like you've been here before?
Also, DW. Dante is a great name, and pretty common around these parts (it’s also @whatwouldvalerydo’s Jonathan’s middle name!)

It’s Day 4 of @kathrynalicemc’s Lineage Challenge, and today it is spotlight day, a chance to introduce a new or lesser known member of the family tree. I will also be posting the profile for Cleo, but there’s one member of the Hexley family who gets even less time in the spotlight…
Lucienne Hexley
Tumblr media
Lucienne Aurore Hexley is the second child and only daughter of Jim and Héloïse Hexley. Born in 1908, she attended Hogwarts school whilst her mother worked as an Astronomy professor. Lilou grew up bilingual, speaking a mixture of French and English at home, and holds both French and British citizenship.
At school, Lilou was sorted into Gryffindor house, and after graduating, used her skills in linguistics as an employee in the Ministry of Magic’s Department of International Magical Co-Operation. As the growing threat of Grindelwald spread globally, she transferred to the French Ministry. She was employed in the Department of Magical Communications, but covertly worked as a cryptanalyst, at first in the Ministry itself, and later at her maternal family’s ancestral home, which became a hub for undercover spies and cryptanalysts working against Grindelwald’s army.
After the war, she went back to her work in international relations and magical communications, later becoming a creator of crossword puzzles and brain games for newspapers in Britain, America, and France.

Lineage Challenge Day 6 - Ask Game!
Thank you @kathrynalicemc for creating this challenge, it’s been so interesting and great for development! Long answers and pretty pictures ahead, so I’ve put in a cut.
1) Canon or Fiction? What drew you to that specific family? Did you make any changes to Canon, and if so, why?
This isn’t a canon family, I created the name Hexley for Artemis after writing a list of surnames and giving them a magical twist. The lore has gone back from Artemis through to my HPHL OCs. I have strict rules about not altering established canon in my writing (which is why Sara Kowalski was born after the events of the Fantastic Beasts films finish) but working around it to create stories that can exist in the magical world adjacent to canon.
I have, however, changed my own canon. Mavis Morland was originally supposed to be a Muggle, not a Squib with a secret history, and the Hexley family were not going to be distantly related to some of the other families I mention below. I also intended the line to end with Artemis, however I have grown to cherish this family lineage to the point that I couldn’t do that. So, Cleo came into being, and now the Hexleys have a future as well as a history.
2) Family Ties - What other families are related/connected to this one? Are they Canon families or creator-made families? (Tag them!)
The Hexleys are connected through marriage to several other wizarding families.
To the Anders and Cleary families, due to the marriage of Theodore Hexley to Florence Mudge. Florence’s nieces gave the Hexley family a distant connection to the McNully and Hopper families. @kc-and-co @thatravenpuffwitch
To the french Fortinbras dynasty, thanks to the marriage of Jim Hexley and Héloïse Perrault.
To the Mercury family, after Ethel’s marriage to Lysander Mercury and the birth of their three daughters: Beatrice, Flora, and Ottilie. Eventually, this branch of the family leads to Flora’s granddaughter Iris and her son Zephyr, and to Ottilie’s grandson Orlando Taylor, and his daughters, Phoebe and Zadie Taylor-Allen. @slytherindisaster
To the Nott and Burke families through Marius Hexley’s marriage to Mavis Morland, who was born Marguerite Nott. This connects them through the marriage of Marguerite’s sister Dahlia to the Pendleton lineage, however this is not a fact that is known by anyone but Mavis Marius themselves and Mavis’ mother Eliza, who was born Ophelia Burke. @kc-and-co @lifeofkaze
To the Goldstein/Kowalski family, through Leander’s marriage to Sara Kowalski. Sally’s maternal aunt Tina Goldstein married Magizoologist Newt Scamander, thus linking another family to the tree.
To the Cole family, thanks to the birth of Jacob Hexley and Angelica Cole’s daughter Cleo. However, as the couple never married and were separated whilst Cleo was still young, the connection between the two lineages is not strong.
3) Foundations: What year and which OC was the founder of the family line?
I have traced the Hexley lineage back as far as Humphrey, Jim and Ethel’s paternal grandfather, however the name Hexley has existed in Wizarding records since the late medieval era. The name sprung up as if from nowhere, and it is unknown whether this is because the family originally was an offshoot of the Yaxley family who cut ties with their less liberal-minded clansmen, or was descended from Muggle stock. Either way, the Hexley family is old enough to have garnered some respect for itself over the years, but not fanatic enough about maintaining the purity of its bloodline to have kept its prestige high.
4) Fun Facts: Do you have any misc lore that you haven’t had a chance to post about? Talk about anything you like!
I’m going to talk about property and homes. There are several old properties that have been owned by the Hexley family over the generations, some of which are still in the possession of their descendents.
Cathedral Close, Exeter, Devon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Muggles are not able to see the door with the hedgehog-shaped knocker among the buildings of the ancient part of Exeter which marks the entrance to the ancestral home of the Hexley family. Humphrey Hexley and his wife Jemima took over this home from Humphrey’s parents in the 19th century, and this is where they raised their son Theodore. Next door, there is a house whose door bears an uncanny resemblance to that of Hogwarts castle’s Room of Requirement. It is unknown if this is a coincidence or not. The property was inherited by Ethel Hexley-Mercury and her family.
Dunsworthy-in-the-Moor, Devon
Tumblr media
Florence Mudge’s Muggle parents were not extremely wealthy, but they had enough money to purchase a set of three terraced cottages in Dartmoor, one to be given to each of their three daughters upon marriage. Theodore and Florence raised their children Jim and Ethel in the cottage, with the property later passing to Jim. Both Jim’s children were also raised here, as was his grandson Leander, but the property was sold after the death of Marius Hexley during the first Wizarding War.
Château de Miel, Sarlac, Dordogne
Tumblr media
Jim Hexley’s marriage to Héloïse Perrault greatly raised the family’s status financially. Héloïse grew up in the Château de Sarlac, the property bestowed upon her parents after their marriage by her maternal grandparents, but only returned to live there as an adult after her own children had grown. The château was then renamed and went on to have an interesting life of its own, housing both cryptanalysts during the Global Wizarding War and refugees during the Second British Wizarding War, and running a working honey farm throughout the latter two thirds of the 20th Century. Currently it is in the possession of Lucienne Hexley.
Lovelace Terrace, Camden, London
Tumblr media
After graduating from Hogwarts and getting a job at the British Ministry of Magic, Héloïse’s grandmother ‘gifted’ her a London townhouse. Unfortunately, Héloïse despised London wholeheartedly, so the building was instead used by other members of the family until passing onto her grandson Leander, who used the money from the sale of the Dunsworthy cottage to purchase the Camden house from his grandparents and use it as a home in which to raise his own family. After Leander’s death, the property was inherited by his two surviving offspring, Jacob and Artemis. After years of attempts, Artemis managed to successfully sell her share of the property in the early 2000s to a surprising buyer, but that is definitely a story for another day.
5) Free Space: Feel free to ask any creator a question not listed here, and maybe you will get one in return!
Y’all know that I’m always open to asks!

AUGUST UPDATES
Tumblr media
What’s coming this month?
@kathrynalicemc is running a lineage challenge as an opportunity to explore the heritage of our OCs. With that in mind, I’ll be delving a little into the lore of the Hexley family. I’ll also be publishing Cleo’s character profile!
The Hexley Saga is having a week’s break because of the lineage challenge, but will be back once the challenge has finished (12/08). There are seven chapters (a third of the story) left to come, and they’ll be getting gradually less and less angsty, much to everyone’s relief, including my own.
The Beginning of a Symphony continues. New chapters every Wednesday!
Writing-wise, I’m still working on Year 7 of the Saga, which is approximately 2/3 finished (though it will probably need a lot of editing). I’m hoping to have it completely done and ready for publishing by the end of September, though that may be optimistic, especially as I know @cursebreakerfarrier is setting up another challenge for the first week of September. Can’t wait to get the details for that next week…
Love as always,
Al x
