December 1896
Despite it being Christmas Day, a proverbial grey cloud hung over the Hexley family’s cottage. Jim’s twin sister Ethel had been in a foul temper ever since Selene’s parents had reversed their decision to allow their daughter to spend Christmas with the Hexleys again.
“Well, I must say, you girls only have yourselves to blame,” the twins’ mother said, after Ethel bemoaned Selene’s absence for what felt like the hundredth time that day. “Really. What you girls were thinking, releasing a lion into the changing tents…”
“It was not truly a lion, it was only Alan transfigured to look like like a lion,” Ethel retorted. “It was a lark, I do not know why the professors had to make such a fuss. That sort of transfiguration is actually very advanced, so really they should have congratulated us, not punished us. And they definitely should not have written to Selly’s cruel parents.” She sighed. “My poor, dear Selly. I expect they have her locked in an attic eating only cold gruel, and at Christmas, too.”
“I am sure that they would do no such thing.”
“Oh, but they would, Mamma. They are such beastly, wicked creatures, more than you could ever begin to imagine. I doubt that they have even given her any presents.”
“Presents!” Mrs Hexley clapped her hands together. “Now that you mention it, Effy, it is time that we all open ours.”
She reached under the tree to hand both Jim and Ethel parcels wrapped in brown paper. Jim thanked her and opened his to reveal a woollen scarf. However, it seemed that even with the prospect of presents, Ethel would not be made to be cheerful.
“There is only one thing I wish for,” she said, not touching her own gift. “A real sister. Mamma and Papa, I think that for my Christmas gift, you should adopt Selene. Just imagine the fun we would all have if Selene were really a part of the family.”
“I’d rather not imagine it,” muttered Jim’s father, not even looking up from the parcel his wife had just handed to him. Jim chuckled, but quickly disguised his laughter as a cough as his sister glared daggers at him from the seat next to him.
“It is not funny, Jimmy! Poor Selene-”
“Poor Selene is with her parents, who - however much you dislike them, Ethel - are alive and well, and I think would not be happy with the idea of us stealing their daughter away,” said Mrs Hexley, her voice reproachful. “And without their say so, we cannot adopt her. There are laws to prevent that.”
Ethel folded her arms across her chest. “Then those laws need to be changed.”
“Well, that’s something for you to try, isn’t it? But no laws are going to get changed on Christmas Day, so for now you might as well stop sulking and open the present your father and I have gone to the expense of buying you.”
Jim and his father exchanged glances as Florence Hexley and her daughter stared at one another in silence. Eventually, Ethel sighed and uncrossed her arms to open her present.
A gentle tap at the window drew the family’s attention away from Ethel, and they turned to see a dark grey speckled owl with a particularly round face on the windowsill, a parcel clutched in its talons. Jim’s father got out of his chair to open the window and take the parcel from the owl, which ruffled its feathers and flew away.
“Looks like this one’s for you, Jim.”
The parcel was delicately wrapped in gold tissue-like paper and white lace, and with a dark green velvet ribbon tied around it in an elegant bow. Carefully, Jim opened the parcel to reveal an immaculate black leather sketchbook with his initials stamped in gold on the front cover.
“Well, that is exquisite, Jim,” said his mother. “Who is that from?”
“I’m not sure,” said Jim. “But I suspect that it is from my friend Bradford Pendleton. He also likes art, and his family are quite wealthy, or so I gather.”
But, as he opened the cover of the sketchbook, he saw that the first page bore a hand-written message in a familiar neat cursive that he knew did not belong to Brady.
Dear Jim,
For your drawings that I am not allowed to see, but I remain hopeful that one day I will to see. Thank you for your kindness and understanding to me. I hope that you have a happy Christmas and a good New Year.
Warmly, your devoted friend
Héloïse
Jim smiled as he read the message, but his swell of happiness quickly subsided as he felt long hair tickling his arm, and turned to see his sister reading over his shoulder with a wicked look in her eyes.
“It is not from Pen, it is from Héloïse!” she declared excitedly.
“Who is Héloïse?”
“My friend,” said Jim, just as Ethel said:
“The girl that Jimmy’s courting, Mamma!”
“I am not… That is not… She is lying!”
“I most certainly am not lying. Jimmy is quite in love. He’s positively devoted to her.” Ethel looked more spirited than she had in weeks. She tickled him under his armpits and began to sing, “Jim and Héloïse, in the Wiggentree…”
“Do be quiet, Ethel!”
“…K. I. S. S. I. N. G!”
“Mamma, make her stop!”
“Right,” the twins’ mother stood up from from her chair, “Effy, come and help me in the kitchen.”
“Oh, but I’m having so much fun here,” said Ethel, widening her eyes and holding onto Jim, who scowled at her.
“Now, Effy, I require some assistance.”
“Then get Papa to help you. Really, Mamma, it’s frankly dreadful that you always insist on my helping you with matters of domesticity. You’re setting a frightful example of what a woman may or may not be, especially in relation to the men of the household. As my mother, you should know far better than to force me into such a narrow and old-fashioned role, thereby perpetuating the patriarchal norms of society that restrict the rights of our own dear sex, and-”
“Ethel,” Florence Hexley interrupted her daughter. “I wish for you to help me in the kitchen, and whilst you are doing so, you might entertain us both with the news of what you and your brother have been doing at school this term.”
She stared at Ethel meaningfully, and a look of realisation passed across Ethel’s freckled face.
“Oh!” She nodded. “Why, of course, Mamma. I’d be delighted to assist you, and naturally I’m more than willing to tell you everything.” Grinning, she leaned in towards Jim and whispered, “Everything.”
Jim glared at his sister as she followed her mother out of the room, already feeding her tall tales and cackling to herself. Jim exhaled loudly and put his new sketchbook down. Yet another thing Ethel had ruined for him.
His father put down his book and leaned across to place one hand on the sketchbook.
“May I?” he asked, and Jim shrugged in response. His father picked up his gift and examined it closely. “Why, this is particularly handsome, isn’t it?”
“I suppose.”
“And quite a fitting present for you, too. Very thoughtful. A gift like this should be cherished. The one who has gone to such effort as to give it, to.”
He handed the sketchbook back to Jim, who sighed and felt some of the tension leave him. He ran his hands over its soft leather and flicked through its thick pages, before reading the message on the front leaf again. He frowned.
“Papa?”
“Jim?”
“I am not courting her.”
“Thank you for letting me know.”
“But…” Jim cleared his throat and looked at the book again. “Should I be?”
“I am not the one who can answer that question, Jim.”
“Oh. Then, um, who is?”
His father stared at him blankly. “You are.”
“But I do not know, either,” said Jim. “I did not think that I was courting her, or… She is new and she does not speak much English. It has been hard for her to make friends, and so I wanted to befriend her, but…” he paused, and felt his cheeks flush slightly. “But, Papa, how does one know whether you want to be friends with a girl or whether you want to court her?”
“Oh, we’re having this conversation,” muttered Mr Hexley. “Excellent.”
“What I mean, Papa… Well, have you ever had a friend who was a girl?”
“Yes.”
“And did you ever wonder whether you wanted to court her or not?”
“Yes.”
“And how did you decide what you wanted?”
“I’m not quite certain,” Jim’s father told him. “In one moment, she was my friend, and in the next moment, I asked her if she would like to marry me. Before I knew it, five years had passed, and she finally agreed to it. It was all rather fast, I don’t remember all the details.”
“So… Maybe I should ask her… not to marry me, but…”
“Do you not want to marry her?”
“I, um… Well, I’m still deciding whether or not I want to court her. I had not quite thought that far ahead, Papa.”
“No, I suppose not. Very well.”
“But perhaps I could ask her if she would like me to court her,” Jim said, and as soon as he had done so, he shook his head. “No. No, I could not.”
“Why is that?”
“Because, that would be… It would be presumptuous. She might find it indecent, or… or too bold. She may say no.”
“She may do that, yes.”
“And what if she does?”
“Then she says no. And you know that she does not want you to court her,” said Mr Hexley. Jim chewed the inside of his cheek, feeling quite miserable all of a sudden. His father smiled. “If I may be too bold, Jim, I dare say that the reason you are feeling so downhearted about the prospect of her not wanting you to court her is because you wish to do just that.”
Jim nodded. “I suppose… Yes, I do believe that you’re right.”
“Well, then. You have you answer. Now, all you need is hers.”
“But…”
“But she may say no. Or she may think you too bold,” Mr Hexley shrugged and returned to his book. “Or she might just think you bold enough.”
But, as Jim picked Héloïse’s gift up and ran his fingers over his own initials, he did not feel that he would ever be bold enough.

I have a headcanon (based on official information) that Cedric's hair is stained because of the spell that damaged Cordelia's hair. "Ah but that's obvious", yes, I know, but I believe this happened specifically because he accidentally spilled a few drops of the potion on himself.
We don't really have an "explanation" of what happened, like, what happened? How on earth did his hair get stained when he threw the potion at Cordelia? It doesn't make sense So for me, a few drops accidentally fell on his hair and that's how that happened
I also find it interesting how at first it was just a few strands of hair, and then as he got older it became the whole fringe. What happened, did the spell spread? What???
And after he managed to discover the potion's ingredients and finally fix Cordelia's hair, why didn't he fix his?
Does he not care about his hair? Because even if he didn't care, it wouldn't hurt to just do a spell to revert it back to his natural color. Maybe he chose not to change because now he is satisfied with his hair. Maybe he had to accept his hair during his childhood years and as he got older he got used to it, and it became a part of him. Maybe he has an emotional attachment to those bangs that he had to put up with for many, many years, and that sometimes made him want to dye his hair because it stood out too much from other people.
Maybe when he was a child or teenager he muttered "I wish I could make that horrible hair disappear", especially on the days when he suffered mean comments from some colleagues at Hexley Hall or when he remembered to himself what his family/people say about him, because this hair would forever be a reminder of Cordelia and the horrible mistake he made, as if he needed to carry this mark with him as punishment and he was already tired of it.
That forever mark on the front of his hair was a reminder of what he did and how much of a failure and an embarrassment he was to his family, that spells always go wrong, and that he was an idiot... it would make sense to want to disappear with it.
But after the years passed he got used to the sight and it stopped being a nuisance. I would like to say that it's something he carries with pride and has already accepted about himself, but I still don't think it's exactly that, he doesn't love himself completely but he doesn't hate himself either, it's not black or white like that. See, I think it makes sense that he accepted his mistake and deserved this "punishment" that was thrown at him. It's like "ah, it's okay, it can be like this. I deserve this after all. Well, let's get on with the day."
He no longer spends as much time lamenting and suffering as he did in childhood, but rather accepting his condition and being so used to it that for him it's almost as if it were his natural hair color from now on. And yes, his hair doesn't really represent a journey of self-love, but rather one of acceptance (in a good way). He understands his mistake (even though he's still confused because he's almost sure it wasn't his fault, the spell was simple, he said it himself. But after everyone had repeated for so long that it was his fault he started to feel like it was, and now it is). It's a reminder of the mistake he made and a reminder to try hard and not make any more mistakes. And as a result, he lived with that hair for around 25-30 years, and became so used to it that it became a part of him, that sometimes he even forgets that it was because of a spell, and that if it weren't for that, his hair it would still be black today.
(Actually not completely black, I believe some of the gray in his hair comes from age and stress/his habits, but you got what I said).
In the end, when Cordelia managed to get her hair back, it crossed Cedric's mind to get his old hair back too. But he decided not to, that it would be like taking away a part of him and his story. It's not just a symbol of the mistakes he made, now it was part of his identity as a person and it was an extension of him, he's already endured a lot with that hair, he's cried because of it, he's pulled it out in anger, he's carried it with him everywhere, he was bullied because of it, he laughed with it, he grew up with it, everyone knows him like that. And that's why he decided to leave his hair the way it was :)
He doesn't hate his white bangs anymore, in fact, he knows it's a part of him and that he couldn't just undo it after having lived with it for so long. After all, it would be like removing a birthmark for example, one that it took him his entire life to understand, calm down and accept that it's a part of him now.
Tumblr media
"My hair was also affected by the spell, do you think you're the only one who suffered the consequences? If I simply "ruined" your hair, I wouldn't have done it to myself too!"
"That's because you're just stupid, can't even ruin my hair without doing something wrong in the process!"

Headcanon
So, this post contains details about the episodes 'Hexley Hall' and 'Day of the Sorcerers.' Some things don't make sense in the latter episode, particularly Grimtrix's motivation when it came to Cedric and the Order of the Wand:
First, in 'Hexley Hall', Cedric (with the help of Sofia) defeats Grimtrix after he revealed his intentions to a shocked Cedric that he wants to steal Sofia's amulet to gain power (just like what Cedric was always trying to do). This makes me VERY confused why Grimtrix would even later invite Cedric to join the Order of the Wand ('Day of the Sorcerers')- an organization of wizards who aim to usurp the thrones of kings all over the EverRealm and prove that sorcerers are superior to royals- because why would he think Cedric would be interested, let alone trusted, after he stopped him from stealing Sofia's amulet and proved he's close to the young princess before??
Next time we see Grimtrix in 'Day of the Sorcerers', I thought it was weird how particularly invested he was in making sure Cedric took over Enchancia. He'd been spying on the other members of the Order of the Wand in his crystal ball to see if they all succeeded in taking out the kings in their respective areas and seizing their kingdoms.
-When he saw Cedric wasn't even showing up in his crystal ball, he said "No surprise there", and headed off to Enchancia to see why Cedric hadn't seized control (his words implied he didn't think he had it in him after all, which only further proves he lured him to his side in the first place so he wouldn't be a threat to his plans).
-In the dungeon, Cedric, Wormwood, and Sofia (who came to confront Cedric about his betrayal, leading him to feel true remorse for hurting her and ultimately choose her friendship over his evil dreams) hear that Grimtrix is attacking the castle. Cedric and Wormwood escape the dungeon to find Grimtrix in the throne room, having managed to freeze most of the royal family except for Sofia (and implies to Cedric he was trying to help him). He tells Cedric all that's left to do is to simply freeze Sofia, and the kingdom is his.
-Cedric freezes Grimtrix instead, leading to Grimtrix's arrest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, here's my headcanon, which I actually discuss in chapter 3 of my story The Master Wand (the first paragraph of dialogue is Cedric, and the other three are Grimtrix):
Tumblr media
I hope this makes sense (lemmie know if it doesn't, and I'll see if I can put it another way). Thoughts?

Hii! Could I request a cedric × reader who is also the royal sorceress for another kingdom? Their royal family visit Enchancia and shes shocked when she sees cedric bcs theyre close childhood friends? Just hugs him infront of everyone. She's quite shy so they just spend their days locked up in his room doing magical stuff, except that time someone in the castle insults cedric and she defends him and that tips a confession scene? Plus points if both royal families are out there shipping them! Thankss!!
Omg thank you for the ask!! This is my first one and I feel so honored <3 I love writing Cedric angst so this feels like such a good treat :3 Also since there was no kingdom specified in the fic, I'm keeping it purposefully vague. I figure it would fit better in a y/n fic anyhow. anyways enjoy!!
An Old Friend, A New Lover
Fic request for @acupnoodle
"Are you excited, y/n? We haven't seen our friends in Enchancia for ages!"
Your queen gushed, smiling brightly in excitement. Beside her, the king was staring out of the carriage window soaking up the scenery, and the children next to you were both snoring softly in their seats. Personally, you were more excited to get out of the cramped carriage to stretch your legs.
"Yes, I'm very excited your majesty. The last time I was in Enchancia..." Your sentence hung in the air as distant memories shuffled across your mind; the song birds chirping when pulling an all nighter, reading in the Hexley Hall libraries until you passed out, hearing the seniors plan their yearly pranks on Royal Prep... you exhale slowly, feeling the nostalgia carve a hole into your heart. It felt like forever since you've seen your old magic academy, or any of the people in it.
Suddenly, a face pops up from the hazy mist of memories. A boy with bangs the color of moonlight, striking against his ebony hair.
Cedric.
You feel your heart cry out as his name settles on your tongue. You almost can't believe you've forgotten your own childhood best friend. Your mind reels as you try to claw your way through memories, latching on to the moments you two shared together.
Being painfully shy yourself, along with Cedric being an outcast of his own, you both quickly grew close. You both sat together in every class you shared, worked on projects together, and talked into the long hours of the night about every hope and dream a young sorcerer and sorceress could have. You feel yourself biting back a dopey smile thinking about it, however your burning cheeks give yourself away.
Lost in your reminiscing, a voice cuts through your concentration.
"Y/n?"
You startle at the mention of your name, staring at the queen with owlish eyes as she wears a bemused expression.
"Ah- I'm so sorry, I got lost in thought..." You mumbled shyly, your cheeks tingling from embarrassment.
"Well, I can see that... Care to share?" The queen quirks an eyebrow at you, grinning like a cat.
"Oh, well.... It's a bit of a long story." You chuckle self consciously, rubbing your thighs. You can feel the queens questioning gaze on you, and your anxiety begins to flare up.
"My dear, it's going to be an even longer trip!" The queen laughs, her eyes twinkling. You laugh politely, but still refuse to answer. Seeing you unconvinced, the queen presses you further.
"Tell me, before I swoon from boredom." The queen flutters her eyelids dramatically, fanning herself in jest.
You genuinely laugh this time, which leaves you feeling disarmed. Tentatively, you start to speak.
"Well... I... Had? Have? This friend..." You begin, your voice droning on as you edge closer to your destination.
Time Skip Time!~
The scene is now taking place around sunset. The queen wasn't joking about it being a long trip, lol.
"Announcing the visiting Royals from beyond the continent! We welcome you to Enchancia!" An older man with neatly combed grey hair, spectacles, and black coattails formally greets you all as you step outside of the royal carriage.
You deduce this man to be the castle steward, but can't put a name to the face. All you knew was he was supposed to have an outstanding reputation amongst his peers.
Standing behind the steward were the royal family of Enchancia. Your eyes widen as you take them all in. King Roland's eyes met yours and paid you a kind smile.
Feeling your skin crawl from eye contact, you quickly bow your head and shuffle to the side of the staircase to be out of the way. The two families begin to intermingle- the adults chattering away and the children begin to split off into groups to play.
Your eyes drink in the engagement from a safe distance, happy to be in your own bubble. In your peripheral vision, however, you see a blotch of purple catch your eye.
Turning to get a better look, you see a tall and lanky man appearing in his late thirties in a purple sorcerer's robe, standing idly by the Enchancia castle doors.
His posture was slightly hunched, with his hands tucked away behind his back. His prominent nose and high cheekbones gave him a naturally evoking look, and his cognac eyes drifted in a bored expression. Your eyes travelled upwards to his hair, silvery white bangs framed deliciously against ebony locs.
Dumbfounded, you feel the cogs in your brain short circuit as you realize who that man was. Blood rushed to your ears. You felt your heart catapult from the pit of your stomach right into your throat. You let out a choked noise, struggling to catch your breath. Almost as if being tugged by an invisible rope, you drag your feet along the polished stone of the castle stairs towards the sorcerer.
Cedric didn't notice you immediately, but halfway there he turns to meet your approach. The setting sun catches in his bright brown eyes, transforming them into the richest golden hue that any king would envy.
Taking the suns rays upon Cedric's face as a sign, you continue to put one foot in front of the other. The noise of the royals started to fade, and all that filled your senses was the man standing fixed in front of you.
Cedric, however, looked more and more unsettled as you closed the gap. His eyes betrayed a look of confusion, the once golden light in his eyes clouding over.
His expression made you pause. You feel the tunnel vision lift, and suddenly you're back in reality once again. Despite this, you find yourself still not backing away.
"...Cedric?" You push out, your voice wobbly from nerves.
Cedric blinked, an unreadable look blooming on his face. Your eyes bore into him, silently pleading for any sign of recognition. A beat of silence stretches for miles between you both.
Suddenly, his eyebrows shot up and a gasp left his lips. His gloved hand covers his mouth in shock. Backing away, Cedric leans against the archway of the castle.
"Y/N...? Y-you-..." Cedric's muffled voice stutters in disbelief, his eyes wide.
The wind rushes out of your lungs in sheer relief, and you almost collapse on the spot. Before you could register your own actions, you found yourself buried into purple silk and warm skin. Your arms squeezed Cedric close, inhaling his scent deeply. Burnt citrus, lavender, and the familiar saccharine smell of potion chemicals hits you hard.
You almost cry from happiness.
You slowly feel the man in your grasp shift his arms, and you start to pull away in fear of making him uncomfortable. You remember he wasn't keen on physical touch, at least back then.
"Stupid, you shouldn't hug people randomly!" You curse yourself, trying to ignore the pricks in your heart.
Before completely detaching yourself, however, you feel Cedric's arms pull you in again in a soft embrace. You feel his chest fall with a heavy sigh, his head dipping to rest on your cheek. His hands rest lightly on your back- just enough to be present, but still maintaining a respectful distance. Every inch his skin touched you felt like fire, and for a second you're convinced that this is what magic truly is.
"..You're really back, Y/N? This isn't a dream?" Cedric asks softly, pulling away slightly to look you in the eye. You almost whine in protest, not wanting to break any contact with the sorcerer. Before you could respond, however, King Roland's voice booms from across the entrance.
"Cedric, Y/N! I see you're catching up..." The royal glances between you and his friend, his eyes twinkling in a way you weren't sure you quite liked. You dip your head down bashfully, trying in vain to salvage your composure.
"Yes, it's been quite a long time..." Cedric mutters, a dark look shadowing his features.
"Well, why don't you show her around the castle? I'm sure she'd be interested in your workshop too! You both can practice for the magic show coming up, too." Roland nods in satisfaction, catching Cedric's eye and giving him a quick wink.
"R-Right! Excellent idea, sire. Y/N, would that be okay with you?" Cedric nervously glances over for your approval.
"Ah... I should ask before I go wandering off..." You bite your lip apologetically, your eyes begging for forgiveness from Cedric. You glance over at your king and queen and back to Cedric.
"Oh, of course. I'll wait here for you, then." Cedric gives you a smile, but the disappointment in his voice was poorly masked.
With a nod, you quickly go over to seek permission to be excused.
"Oh my, that's the Cedric you told me about?" The queen spoke in an excited hush, barely containing her giggles.
"Yes, it is." You answer, trying hard to maintain your cool.
"Well then, you shouldn't keep him waiting a second longer! Have fun." The royal gives you a knowing smile, and you flash her a bashful one in return.
Briskly returning to Cedric's side, you tell him you're free to go.
"Excellent. So, would you like the grand tour or shall we skip to the grand finale?" Cedric wiggles his eyebrows at you, his lips curling into a mischievous smile.
"You should know by now, patience is a virtue I've never had." You joke, earning a chuckle from Cedric.
"Of course, how could I forget?" Cedric says lightly, gazing down at you with a smile; however, it doesn't quite match his eyes. You feel as though he was talking to himself moreso to you. Even so, you laugh as you walk alongside him.
You both make your way to Cedric's tower, chatting along the way. Cedric is mostly doing the talking, but being a good listener was always your preferred role anyways. Just hearing his voice made your heart swell with joy. Before you both realized it, you were at Cedric's door.
"Y/N, this is where the magic happens." Cedric burst into a cheeky grin, and you groaned at his lame sorcerer joke.
"You really still say that, Cedric?" You feign annoyance, but secretly love the fact he referenced such an old inside joke between you.
Cedric tutted, cocking a brow. "Well, I thought it was funny. But I suppose everyone's a critic, hmm?" He sniffed, strutting past you to open the door. He tucked himself against the wall, beckoning for you to enter.
"Sorceress's first, Y/N." Cedric dipped his head respectfully.
"Always the gentleman, Ceddy." You coo, the nickname slipping out before you could stop it.
"Y-y-yes. Of course." Cedric coughed into his sleeve, the tips of his ears flushed pink.
You don't comment on Cedric's reaction, instead choosing to quietly tuck it away in the back of your mind.
Entering the workshop, your eyes scan the room. Trinkets, magical artifacts, bottles, potions, and other various magical supplies littered every free inch of counter space.
Cedric always had a haphazard way of organizing, and you couldn't help but smile at the familiar sight.
"Old habits die hard, I suppose..." You murmured, scanning the room once again.
"Did you say something, Y/N?" Cedric questioned, his frame popping up from beside you.
"Oh!" You startle, jumping from the sudden movement.
"Um, I said you have a lovely workshop." You flash Cedric a cheery smile, trying to mask your lie. Well, technically it's not a lie. Besides the questionable organization, there were plenty of things that caught your eye.
"Well, it took years and years of hard work to get it to where it is now." Cedric sighed, his eyes wandering the cramped shelves. You hummed in response, following his gaze across the various items he possessed.
"But, thank you. It's my pride and joy, Y/N. Anything you need, I'm sure I have it." Cedric puffs out his chest confidently.
"And you're welcome for as long as you'd like, of course." The sorcerer added, a nervous chuckle leaving his lips.
You give him a grateful smile, thanking him.
Both of you were starting to enjoy this trip already.
(Another Time Skip Because This Fic Is Getting Long Enough~)
"Cedric, where did you keep the mugwort tinctures again?" You called down from the stairs, rummaging once again through his herb storages.
"Top shelf, three drawers to the right!" Cedric answered, not sparing a glance from his bubbling beakers.
"It's not there, Cedric. I looked! There's only dried Mullein leaves." You yell, exasperation edging your voice.
"What? How... That's impossible!" Cedric scowled, rising from his seat. With a flick of his wand, the drawer magically opens and the contents gently levitate from the drawer.
With a twirl of the wrist, the dried leaves make their descent from the upper level of the workshop into Cedric's palm. After a minute of inspection, you hear him curse loudly.
"Damn it all, this has to be Cordelia's doing. I've told her multiple times to NOT. touch. My things! I have a process that must not be disturbed!" Cedric glowered at the leaves in his hand, his frustration building with each word.
Placing the Mullein in a heap on his desk, he runs his fingers through his hair as he sighs in resignation.
Seeing his upset state, you gingerly float down from the balcony to comfort your friend. You were shocked to find out that Cordelia and Cedric were still on speaking terms, but that question could be answered at a later time.
"I'm so sorry, Cedric. Is there any way we can get Mugwort from the castle gardens? I'll help you replace whatever Cordelia took." You offer gently, brushing your hand across the sorcerer's back in soothing motions.
"She didn't take them, Y/N. Surprising, I know." Cedric snorted in annoyance, rubbing his temples with his fingers.
Seeing your puzzled look, Cedric continues.
"Sometimes, when Cordy visits she insists on 'helping me' by 'reorganizing' all of my materials. Without permission, I might add!" Cedric crosses his arms, clenching his jaw.
"And she never listens to you when you ask her to stop?" Your question was more of a statement, given you remember her kleptomaniac nature.
Cedric nods silently in agreement, then draws out a long huff of air.
"I know what you're looking for is here, somewhere. She wouldn't steal such a frivolous ingredient. I just have to find it." Cedric's brow furrowed and his lips formed a tight line. He rose from his seat, holding his wand up in the air.
With a flourish of his hand, magical ingredients were flying to and fro in a crazed manner.
"Ah, Cedric...!" You cried out, ducking your head from the incoming projectiles.
"Don't worry, y/n! I'll have this sorted out in a jiffy!" Cedric drawled in a sing song voice.
"I don't doubt it...! But I'm going to take my chances in the garden. I don't have much time left to prepare for the show tonight!"
You spoke quickly, begging for Cedric's understanding in the matter.
"Well, if you insist, my dear! I'll fetch you when I've found the Mugwort!" Cedric shooed you off, fully concentrated on finding his missing ingredient.
Eager to leave, you rush down his tower steps and towards the royal courtyards.
Finally finding your way, you approach the well tended royal gardens of Enchancia. You notice this kingdom spared no expense at the various types of plants that grew here. With a satisfied hum, you expertly scan the ground for your prize.
After about 20 minutes, you're ready to just scrap your entire idea altogether. You sigh loudly once again, sitting on a plush carpet of grass and moss.
The serene sounds of the gardens slowly took the edge off, and with a cool head you decide to give it one last try. You push off your knees, ready to stand and try again. Before you could rise however, you hear giggling coming from your left.
"I know, right? I mean, really, if it weren't for his father being Goodwyn The Great he would never have been a royal sorcerer!" A servant girl chortles with her friend, their voices carrying through the breeze.
You duck below to your previous spot, hoping they didn't see you. You lean closer, trying to overhear their conversation. Were they seriously talking about Cedric?
"I think his sister should've been the royal sorcerer. Have you seen her magic? It's amazing!" The girl sighs dreamily, clutching her hands to her chest.
Your stomach sinks as your suspicion is confirmed. Your body refuses to move from your hiding place, despite your mind's anguished pleas. Anger begins to cloud your vision, and a faint ringing in your ears starts to grow louder by the second.
"Cedric the Great? I think he should just be called Cedric the Second Rate!"
The girls burst into uncontrollable laughter, their high pitched squeals igniting the burning hot anger within you.
Your mind flashes back to the brats at Hexley Hall, and everyone who would turn up their nose at Cedric. The name calling. The pranks. The snide remarks.
The nights where you had to drag Cedric out of bed because he wouldn't move otherwise, wishing he was dead.
You jump up from your hiding place, feeling the blood rush to your skin in a seething rage you haven't felt since those distant memories.
"How dare you both speak like that about Cedric!" You hissed, stomping over to the servant girls.
They turn to you, their mouths forming a shocked "o" in response, eyes bulging from fear. The girl who mocked Cedric a second earlier begins to stutter in response, but you won't allow her another word.
"Don't you dare try to speak now. I heard everything. Both of you are such wretched, awful creatures. The rats that scurry in the castle walls have better manners than both of you combined!"
The girls shrank into themselves, clutching each other's arms at your agitated state. Even though name calling would normally be beneath you, it felt good to give them a dose of their own medicine.
"Neither of you peasants know a word about the man you're talking about. You don't deserve to speak his name, much less mock it."
Your words wavered from your emotions, and your throat already felt hoarse from the foreign feeling of raising your voice. Yet, you found yourself completely unable to stop. It was like you were watching yourself from outside your body.
"Please... Miss Y/N, we were only joking! We didn't mean any harm, I promise!" The girl who called Cedric second rate piped up, her voice pleading for mercy.
"Yes, that's what they all say. It's all fun and games, a little tit for tat." Your hands shoot up in a dismissive wave, then ball up into fists at your side.
"But any good sorceress knows that words hold power."
You grab your wand from its resting place at your hip, it's familiar power singing a siren song to you.
The girls cried out in retaliation, cowering before you. Their piercing wails suddenly bring you back into your body, and you momentarily froze in place. After a beat of hesitation, you hear a voice call out to you.
"Y/N! Stop!"
You turn your head to the sound of your name, seeing purple satin and white hair billowing in the afternoon breeze. Cedric huffs breathlessly, his arms outstretched towards you.
"Cedric?" You echo, your arms falling limp to your side.
The girls scramble to their feet, taking advantage of the distraction. They turn to run, and in response your body twists to capture them. With your wand aimed straight for them, there was no escape. However, a pair of gloved hands capture your wrists in protest.
"Let them go, Y/N." Cedric spoke simply, but you knew he wasn't asking- he was telling you to.
Your eyes don't leave the servants bodies for a second as they run off and turn a corner, successfully escaping your wrath.
Begrudgingly lowering your arm, you avoid Cedric's piercing gaze. His hand still grasps your forearm, squeezing it tightly.
You both stand in silence, searching for the right thing to say. After a beat, Cedric speaks.
"So... It seems you got side tracked." Cedric prompted, his tone unreadable.
"Trust me, I did not intend for it to happen. I happened to overhear those witches cackling about you, and I couldn't just-"
Your words harshly are cut off by Cedric's pointer finger being brought up to your lips. You stare up at him, your anger resurfacing.
"I know. I saw- and heard- enough to piece together what happened." Cedric spoke softly, his eyes unable to fully meet yours.
"And you did nothing?"
You spat, your cheeks lighting up as your emotions rose up to the surface.
"I stopped you, didn't I?"
Cedric snapped back, his brows furrowed deeply in anger as his voice cut through the garden. Falling into silence, all you could do was stare at him as you fought tears that were already welling in your eyes.
"My god, Y/N... I'm not a child anymore. I don't need you harassing a couple servants over petty gossip." Cedric glowered at you, his grip on your forearm tightening even more.
"You're hurting me." You reply weakly, tugging against Cedric's hand.
"You could've hurt them, too." Cedric countered.
"I wasn't going to do anything! Just scare them off!" You protest weakly.
Cedric scoffed, but relented his grip. Slinking away from his tall form, you swat at your wet eyes.
"Well, you certainly did your job. We should go, before anyone else knows what happened." Cedric responded curtly, already turning away from you.
Not budging from your spot, you stare daggers into Cedric's back. Not sensing your presence, Cedric's head peeks over his shoulder.
"Are you coming?" Cedric eyes you wearily, holding his breath.
"How does it not anger you, what those girls said?" You asked, your voice breaking. You bite your lip to keep your chin from wobbling, but the tears from your eyes were now flowing rivers. Your feet were like anchors, holding you to the spot. You couldn't move until Cedric explained himself. However, before Cedric could reply, more words tumble from your lips.
"While you're... Right, we aren't children anymore-" you mumbled, your tongue becoming thick with emotion.
"-It's not as easy as you might think, ignoring those who tarnish the name of the person you loved since childhood."
Your confession felt like a heavy blanket, weighing down the atmosphere of the space around you. Your skin crawled with every second of silence.
Cedric's eyes swirled with complex emotions, slowly processing what you had said.
Exhaling a heavy sigh, Cedric returns to your side. Conjuring a tissue, he tenderly wipes your eyes. You silently beg him to say anything, anything to just break the tension already.
"Do you want to know a trick I learned from another dear friend of mine?" Cedric whispered, his face leaning in close to your own.
You gave a meager hum in response, your eyes locking with his own.
"The only people's opinions I need to care about are my own, and the people whom I love. Anything else is noise that can be drowned out." Cedric's hand moves to peel a stray lock of hair out of your face, gently tucking it behind your ear.
"I already know what those girls think. I don't care. And you certainly gave them a piece of your mind too." Cedric chuckled darkly, his eyes glinting in a way that made your reddened cheeks turn scarlet.
"So... Are we okay, then?" You murmur, anxiously bunching your skirts up in your hands.
"I'm afraid after this... I don't think it's best we remain friends." Cedric replied, his voice low and eyes downcast.
Your heart lept into your throat, and only a strangled noise escapes your lips. Your knees begin to feel weak, but before you could protest any further you find your lips fully occupied by Cedric's.
Your whole body stiffens, completely unaware of how to react. A million questions blitzed in the back of your mind, but slowly the feeling of Cedric's warm lips melted away any worries in that moment.
You closed your eyes gently, matching Cedric's pace of the kiss. Your hand snakes around his neck to bring him in closer, and in turn his hands rest in the small of your back to pull you flush into him. Your whole body hummed in satisfaction, and this moment felt like it was what you waited for your whole life.
After exchanging a few more lingering kisses, you both break apart for air.
Your skin is still buzzing from the kiss, and you cling to Cedric's robes for support.
"Wow... That was...!" You stutter, breathless.
"Magical?" Cedric grinned, taking your hand and rubbing your knuckles with the pad of his thumb.
You shake your head, a huge grin of your own on your face.
"Even better, I fear." You reply, nuzzling into his chest.
You both stand in each other's embrace, until the realization hits you that you both had a magic show that needed to be done and you still had no Mugwort.
"Cedric-! The magic show!" You cried, your eyes wide with worry.
"I did say I'd come fetch you when I found the Mugwort, didn't I?" Cedric smirked, digging into the sleeve of his robe for your missing ingredient.
"Haha! Cedric, you're simply the best." You hug him tightly, sighing in relief and love for the sorcerer.
"Ready to knock some royal socks off, then?" Cedric asked, his wand at the ready.
"With you by my side? Absolutely." You nod, pulling out your wand in turn.
"Then let's not keep them waiting, hmm?" Cedric offers you his hand, which you take graciously.
"Let's go!" You tug Cedric along, laughing. In this moment, it was just like you two were kids again.
Except this time, neither of you were going anywhere.

Appearance

Faceclaim: Florence Pugh
Height: 5ft 3in
Build: Small, stocky, broad shoulders
Hair: Dark honey blonde
Eyes: Hazel with a ring of green around the pupil
Skin: Fair
Defects: A thin white scar on her neck from dueling with a Grindelwald supporter.
Style: Growing up, Zella often wore hand-me-downs from Ethel and Ivy, resulting in a somewhat eclectic style. Her personal style is on the feminine side, but she favors practical lace up boots and men’s outerwear… resulting in a somewhat eclectic style. She likes pretty things but doesn’t fret over a bit of mud (or a chocolate stain).
Witchcraft
Wand: Aspen wood, unicorn hair core, 10 3/4” and bendy flexibility
Wand-quality aspen wood is white and fine-grained, and highly prized by all wand-makers for its stylish resemblance to ivory and its usually outstanding charmwork. The proper owner of the aspen wand is often an accomplished duellist, or destined to be so, for the aspen wand is one of those particularly suited to martial magic. An infamous and secretive eighteenth-century duelling club, which called itself The Silver Spears, was reputed to admit only those who owned aspen wands. In my experience, aspen wand owners are generally strong-minded and determined, more likely than most to be attracted by quests and new orders; this is a wand for revolutionaries.
Animagus: Crow
Patronus: Hummingbird
Boggart:
As a child: Being laughed at and taunted by her older cousins.
As an adult: The dead body of her daughter.
Riddikulus:
As a child: Her cousins preform the chicken dance for her.
As an adult: She can no longer repel a boggart.
Amortentia (what does she smell like?): Candied fruits, jasmine, amber
Amortentia (what does she smell?): Coffee brewing, blueberry muffins, clean linen
Magical Abilities: Skilled dueler
Hogwarts
House: Hufflepuff
Best Subjects: DADA and Charms
Worst Subjects: History of Magic (in terms of grades) and Divination (in terms of enjoyment)
Third-Year Options: Care of Magical Creatures and Divination
Extracurriculars: Dueling Club and Hufflepuff Quidditch team
Quidditch Position: Beater (Y3-7)
Adult Life
17 – 32: Pro-Dueler
33 – 38: Dueling Instructor
35 — present: Founder and owner of Sugarplum’s Sweet Shop in Diagon Alley
Relationships
Mother: Emmeline Cleary (née Mudge) — A muggle seamstress, and younger sister to Florence Hexley and Frances Anders.
Father: Benedict Cleary — An Irish-born squib who owns a pub in the nearby village and likes to serenade his patrons on the weekends.
Grandmother: Morrigan ‘Morri’ Cleary — Grandma Morri is nearly completely blind, a talented weaver of fabrics, tapestries, and carpets, and the rumor is that she’s part banshee (a rumor she’s never confirmed or denied).
Cousins:
Ethel Hexley @the-al-chemist — Zella likes to help Ethel and her best friend, Selene Fraser @lifeofkaze (who is Zella’s very good friend too, of course), with their pranks. Although Zella admires Ethel for more than just her troublemaking schemes, the rest of their family was relieved when Zella was sorted into Hufflepuff with her other cousins.
Jim Hexley @the-al-chemist— Due to Ethel’s influence, Zella used to think Jimmy was rather dull. She likes to tease him, but he looks out for her anyways. Zella loves it when he indulges her requests for drawings.
Ivy Anders @kc-and-co — Zella adores Ivy because she does not treat her like a baby and includes her in things. Ivy is the person Zella goes to for comfort and advice.
Best Friend: Cecily Selwyn — Despite Zella and Cecy being sorted into different houses, they became fast friends after sitting together in the back of the History of Magic classroom during their first year. They are fierce, lifelong friends, and eventually become family when their children, Florence and Lugh, marry in 1940.
Love Interests:
Fred Clark — A muggle who Zella met at a pub in London. They had a brief, but passionate relationship before he left to fight during the First World War and was killed in action. She cared for him a great deal, but never got the chance to tell him she was a witch or that he was a father.
Theseus Scamander — Fellow Hufflepuff and Head Auror of the British Ministry of Magic. Theseus and Zella dated as young adults, but eventually parted ways when they started putting their individual ambitions ahead of their relationship. They lost contact for several years, during which time Zella has a daughter and retires from dueling. They reunite when Zella is recruited by Dumbledore to help bring down Grindelwald. Finding that their priorities are more aligned and romantic feelings between them are still strong, they eventually get married.
Daughter: Florence Hopper (née Cleary) — Born in 1915, Florence attended Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw. Compassionate, determined, and intelligent, she became a respected Lawyer, eventually rising to the level of the Wizengamot. This was one of the reasons her family was targeted during the First Wizarding War, resulting in her death in 1978. She is the paternal grandmother of Jacob and Ellie Hopper.
Pet: A little barn owl named Peanut

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 were a half-blood family of British, Scottish, Greek and Italian origin. Their family home was located in Castle Combe where BENEDICT and ADELAIDE moved after their eldest son LYSANDER was born. The cottage was occupied by the family up until Benedict's death in 1931, the house stood empty for a couple of years then it was passed on to FLORA HEXLEY-MERCURY a second child of Lysander and ETHEL HEXLEY.
BENEDICT was a half-blood wizard, a Ravenclaw alumni who went on to become a magizoologist specialising in Pixies and Doxies. Due to the nature of his job he would often find himself at the St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries where he would eventually met his future wife Adelaide who was a talented trainee healer at Dai Llewellyn Ward of Serious Bites. After getting treated by her a couple of times and a couple more of faked injuries he finally mustered enough courage to ask her on a date and to his great surprise she agreed. It took less than a year for them to get engaged and then married.
ADELAIDE'S parents weren't very pleased when their daughter announced that she wish to marry not only a half-blood but also a man with no status or much money. The Fawleys might not have had such a fortune or influence as the Black or Malfoy families but that only strengthened their desire to find suitable matches for their daughters. Through all of her struggles in convincing the family to let her marry Benedict Adelaide could always count on her sister EVELYN. She herself recently married into the Rosewood family and it was mainly her who finally convinced the Fawleys that Benedict was a man worthy of Adelaide. The couple was married in a small ceremony and remained in London until their son first birthday. Soon they realised that they both rather raise their kid in a countryside away from the big town and thus soon enough the Mercury family of three moved into a small cottage at Castle Combe.
LYSANDER'S mathamorphmagus abilities didn't show until he was almost two years old and it nearly gave his parents a heart attack right from the start. The first noted instance of Lys discovering his shapeshifting was shortly after the family moved to their new house in the countryside. Lysander spent hours exploring the gardens surrounding the cottage and when he came back his skin was purple. When Adele saw him she immediately took him to the nearest wizarding hospital as she made an assumption that the skin color was caused by Lysander eating a Venomous Tentacula. Her theory was debunked when, in the middle of the visit, his skin color turned back to normal and his hair started to change colors instead. The Mercuries were relieved that it wasn't caused by a deadly plant, but their relief didn't last long with Lysander discovering more and more of his newfound abilities and getting a partner in crime.
EVANDER was three years younger than Lysander but as soon as he learned how to walk his older brother took him under his wing. Though he did grow up a little jealous of his brother abilities he would get over it eventually, especially after discovering his own speciality that turned out to be Quidditch. Though Lysander would never admit it, especially after Evan got sorted into Gryffindor and joined the house team, but the younger Mercury brother was undoubtedly better at playing the game.
I might not participate in the lineage challenge per se but it seemed like a good opportunity to share some background for one of my favourite families. Ocs mentioned belong to @the-al-chemist and @usernoneexistent.

Hepatica: Fae... Fairy... Fairy circle *writes down on a note*...Fairy Court... Fiend...Kelpie... Kikimora , nope ...Selkie...Siren...Sphere jumping... *scribbles*
Tumblr media
Wendelin: Here you go sweetie.Be a good bean while mommy talks to grandma and grandpa , okay?
Vere: Okay...
Wendelin: Thanks for coming , mom , dad.
Tumblr media
Beth:Of course love , we came as quickly as you called , I cannot believe that such a prestigious witch would do something so evil.
Prewitt: What ever you need , we be here honey- bee. Jun is also on his way.
Tumblr media
Wendelin: Be honest dad , do you think there Is a anyway for the ministry to help us keep Mayris away from Vere ?
Prewitt: I asked everyone in the ministry of NMC ,and they told me because of the hag *cough* lady is from such a high statues family and a head-mage of a entire town it will be almost impossible to stop her. A head-mage is different compared to a minister of magic and ,apparently, a lot harder to dispose.
Beth: If you paid more attention back at Hexley you would know dear: A town like NMC and the one Lady Belmont-Kader runs is like an entire coven of mages and the head-mage is the one who founded the town and the title goes to their oldest child. The minister is like a advisor to the head-mage and the one who takes responsibility of the town if the direct bloodline is dead.
Prewitt: Sounds like bullfrog shit to me , anyways , the best thing we can do is to put more protection spells and move you guys ever few years-
Tumblr media
Wendelin: But it wouldn't stop her from hiring others... or do it in a way that doesn’t involve magic...
Beth: I’m sorry sweetie...

Cleopatra Sara Rai Hexley
Cleo Hexley transferred to Hogwarts School from Ilvermorny for her NEWTs, with dreams of becoming a magical art historian and anthropologist. It soon transpired, however, that the majority of Cleo’s peers were more interested in her face than her mind. After she grew tired of being the face of the Egwu fashion house, Cleo embarked on a career as a tour guide for Globus Mundi Wizarding Travel Agents, where she was able to use her looks, charms, and knowledge, all at once.
Tumblr media

At home, she will wear whatever she feels most comfortable in, which is usually either lounge/sportswear or loose-fitting clothes made from light, floaty materials.
Faceclaim: Simone Ashley
Witchcraft
Wand: Cherry and Wampus Cat Hair
This very rare wand wood creates a wand of strange power, most highly prized by the wizarding students of the school of Mahoutokoro in Japan, where those who own cherry wands have special prestige. The Western wand-purchaser should dispel from their minds any notion that the pink blossom of the living tree makes for a frivolous or merely ornamental wand, for cherry wood often makes a wand that possesses truly lethal power, whatever the core.
Animagus form: none.
Patronus: bat.
Boggart: the floor beneath her turns into a view from a great height.
Riddikulus: none - Cleo has found that the best way to get rid of her Boggart is to jump/step on it.
Amortentia (what does she smell?): Cleo has never smelt amortentia before.
Amortentia (what does she smell like?): amber, ink, wisteria, speculoos.
Magical abilities: Occlumency.
At Ilvermorny
Ilvermorny House: Thunderbird
Best subjects: Magical Theory, History of Magic, Ancient Studies
Worst Subjects: Flying (Cleo has an extreme fear of heights!)
At Hogwarts
Hogwarts House: none, temporary student.
Best subject(s): History of Magic, Muggle Studies
Worst subject(s): none - Cleo arrived in the N.E.W.T. year and only chose subjects that she enjoyed/was good at.
N.E.W.T. Subjects: History of Magic, Ancient Runes, Muggle Studies, Astronomy, Transfiguration, Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Quidditch position: none.
After Hogwarts
July 2018-February 2019: Apprentice at the Department of Magical Artefacts, British Ministry of Magic
December 2018-January 2021: Model and muse for the Egwu fashion house.
March 2021-present: tour organiser, Globus Mundi travel agency.
Relationships
Family:
Jacob Hexley (father) and Angelica Cole (mother) - Cleo’s parents separated when she was very young, but maintain a somewhat cordial relationship, if only for her sake. Cleo spent her childhood between her parents’ homes and is close with both of them, but sometimes feels as if they have too high expectations for her - she is not as academic as her father, nor is she as brave as her troll-trainer and former Quidditch champion mother, neither of whom were particularly happy with her decision to leave her career in magical artefact restoration barely after it had begun.
Sara Kowalski-Hexley (grandmother) - Cleo’s grandmother Sally is always hard to read. Though somewhat distant, she is generally affectionate to Cleo, even if she occasionally seems to put up walls around herself.
Artemis Hexley (aunt) - Cleo has only met her aunt a handful of times, but she has heard plenty of stories about her from her father.
Quentin Kowalski (second cousin) - cousin Quentin is a Quidditch prodigy, the youngest ever Chaser to make the US National team. He has tried to encourage Cleo onto a broom many times, never with much success.
Friends:
Rylie Hopper-Lee - Rylie was tasked with looking after Cleo when she first arrived at Hogwarts, and the two bonded over their love of art, history, ancient runes, and ice cream @thatravenpuffwitch
Danielle Parkin - Dana was the first person to make a point of introducing herself to Cleo, and after discovering a mutual love of trashy romance novels, became book sharing buddies @lifeofkaze
Zadie Taylor-Allen and Victoire Weasley - Cleo and Victoire vaguely knew each other through their families, and both she and Zadie were always pleasant to Cleo during her time at Hogwarts, unlike one of their friends…
Andre Egwu - Cleo was ‘discovered’ by the head designer of the Egwu fashion house at sixteen, and after agreeing to the occasional fashion shoot to get a bit of extra pocket money, eventually signed up to work for him as a full-time model, having grown tired of no one taking her seriously in the field she was working in. Though he is somewhat judgemental, Cleo appreciates Andre’s ability to see and say things as they are, and he quickly became a sort of surrogate uncle figure to her.
Love interests: None, yet.
Pets: Cleo’s father owns a few owls, but she has no pets herself.
Rivals:
Rory McTavish - Rory is just the worst, honestly. Cleo doesn’t understand what Rylie sees in him.
Reva Amari - Reva and Cleo have absolutely nothing in common, and so a close friendship was never on the cards. Unfortunately, Reva seemed to take Cleo’s disinterest personally. @lifeofkaze
Duncan Ludwig - Duncan and Cleo immediately got off on the wrong foot after Duncan decided to prank her shortly after arriving at Hogwarts. He was nothing but friendly to her after that, but Cleo hasn’t been able to trust him since. @usernoneexistent
Ancestry: as the daughter of Jacob Hexley, Cleo is the descendent of Jim and Héloïse Hexley, Ophelia Burke, and Jacob and Queenie Kowalski. Via her French lineage, she is a direct descendant of Morgan Le Fay.

Primrose Gray's Legacy: Update & Changes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know, I know, I haven't updated in a while, but let me explain!!
As many of you know, last year I decided to put into words Primrose's story, and I had initially followed @the-al-chemist 's example of her Hexley Saga, but the many years and things to cover overwhelmed me and this year I have been thinking of how to take off some weight off my back... And found it! By reducing eight books to four, each of them covering several years.
Primrose Gray's Legacy, Book One: The Younger Years
Primrose is a young lady from a powerful and well-liked family who, after a set of tragedies, are determined to thrive in an era where the nobility is losing the power they've witheld for centuries. Headcanon: Cedric's first love was the previous queen of Enchancia, Lorelei.
I didn't created this headcanon, it has been around the fandom for some time, but I wanted to do my take on it.
Tumblr media
TW: death, not being able to have kids, the queen died during the birth of her children, unrequited love, rejection, grief.
Cedric met Lorelei when he was a young apprentice, right before he started studying at Hexley Hall.
It happened when Lorelei's parents (the queen and the king from a nearby kingdom) came to visit the Enchancia castle for political contracts and peace treaties with King Roland I (again, this isn't my idea, it's from a fanfic). They spent some months in Enchancia and Lorelei soon made friends with the children in the castle, such as Roland, Cedric, Cordelia and Tilly, and as much as she loved everyone else's company, Cedric was her best friend and she could always count on him.
School started and Roland, Tilly and Lorelei started studying at the royal prep, while Cedric and Cordelia went to Hexley Hall. Because of the friendship between King Roland I and Lorelei's parents, and also the proximity between these kingdoms, they often travelled to Enchancia, sometimes even to go on vacation and spend some time with their close friends.
That way, Lorelei often spent her time playing with the boys and having girl talk with the girls, Cedric shared the little amount of spells he knew at the time, and they often went to the gardens, it was their place to hang out.
Cedric didn't had many friends, even before the incident. He had an older sister, and she was the closest friend he had, but despite for Cordelia, Roland was always busy with prince stuff and him and Tilly were never really close, so when Cedric wasn't on Hexley Hall with his classmates, he only had Cordelia and Lorelei.
When the incident happened, Cedric was around 9 years old, and his life was never the same ever since. Everyone started to see him as a nuisance, he got dirty looks in the hallways and cruel comments, and those white bangs on his head didn't help him forget his mistake (or who he believed he was- a burden, good for nothing, and the worse sorcerer of his bloodline). Cordelia wasn't so close to him anymore, even still being his sister, she was acting like his father and always pointing out his behaviors and mistakes, so Cedric didn't felt like her friend anymore.
The only person who still saw him for the person he is was Lorelei. She was like an angel in his life. It didn't mattered how many times she saw him failing, for her, Cedric was still an amazing young sorcerer — and friend. While Cedric was constantly bullied at Hexley Hall and Roland stopped being his friend, Lorelei stayed.
He didn't saw her everyday because she studied in a different school and they were from different kingdoms, but they always spent some time together when Lorelei's family came to visit the kingdom, some little times per month, and whole travels around 1 or 2 times per year.
The frequency of Lorelei's family's presence at Enchancia Castle and the friendship she had with the princes sparked conversations about what a cute couple Lorelei could make with Roland when they grew up. And that wasn't a big deal for Cedric, because they all knew, from the start, that Roland and Lorelei would be a couple, whether it was due to an alliance of kingdoms, or even simply because they were very close and would look adorable together. When Cedric was little of course he was a little jealous of Lorelei with her friends, it wasn't romantic at all but rather the fact that he wanted to spend more time with her, since the other children already had enough friends and he didn't. And yes, he knew about the closeness between Roland and Lorelei, but Cedric didn't mind since he only saw himself as her friend, almost like how he felt with Cordelia some years ago.
As the years passed, Cedric continued to be mistreated. The children were growing up and Roland's behavior was becoming harsher towards Cedric. He wasn't a complete idiot, he was still the usual Roland as always, but now he was completely invested in the thought that Cedric was a bungler, and Cedric hated that. Cedric missed their friendship more than anything in this world. Due to the judgments of everyone, even his own family and classmates at Hexley Hall, Cedric became more reclusive and lonely, except for his raven Wormwood who was always by his side. Cedric wasn't rude and always felt less than others, apologizing for any minor inconvenience, but when he was alone he complained about the life he had, he was becoming bitter and reclusive.
Lorelei always tried to help Cedric and convince people to believe in him, but it didn't change his life, especially since she wasn't there every day. She tried to convince Roland to trust Cedric a little more, and also to apologize for the times he was harsher with him, which worked from time to time, but it didn't change the way Cedric and Roland thought about each other. On the other hand, Lorelei was getting closer to Roland and rumors about their romance were gaining more prominence as they got older. Cedric was worried, because despite knowing that Roland was a good person, he couldn't trust him because of the way Roland saw Cedric- even though he couldn't blame him for that, everyone saw him that way. He had concerns about his great friend Lorelei courting one of the people who made him feel so bad, but he knew that because Lorelei wasn't Cedric, Roland wouldn't be mean to her... which reassured him in some aspects, but in others it made him feel even worse.
Around Prince Roland's 17th birthday, King Roland I passed away. Although Roland was very young, the queen did not want to take the throne and neither did Princess Tilly, so Roland was the successor. He always wanted to be king and his family decided to give him that title, even if it was a little too soon. At this age, Lorelai had gained permission to travel alone between kingdoms and only needed to take a carriage, so she visited whenever she wanted. Due to Roland's grief and his new role as king, he was very tired and overwhelmed, and needed Lorelei's help more than ever. They got even closer to eachother and the feelings they were developing for quite some time now were starting to really show up.
Cedric however wasn't any better. His life remained the same and so did his frustration. But now there was an even worse little problem, a problem he had been struggling with since he was 13 years old. He was in love with Lorelei. Cedric felt like she was the only person who understood him, but not only that, she was the only one who was nice to him. Lorelei was like a morning breeze that brought him a breath of fresh air whenever he came into her presence. She was beautiful, polite, kind, and everything about her brought butterflies to his stomach. He had been trying to suppress it for a long time, but seeing her getting close to Roland broke his heart, and Cedric didn't even have the right to complain.
Everyone knew that even though they weren't officially a couple, Lorelei and Roland belonged to each other. Cedric on the other hand was just a newly appointed royal sorcerer, and was an idiot in his own right. He didn't think he was smart, attractive, talented, and he wasn't even royalty. A princess was way out of his league, especially one as beautiful and close to Roland as Lorelei. Instead of mourning his unrequited love, Cedric accepted that this was how it had to be and put himself in his place. But he couldn't help but feel his heart melt every time she hugged him and told him he was the best friend she could ever have.
Cedric kept his feelings to himself and let his friend live her life the way it should be, and the way she wants. He also remained bitter about the whole issue of his social life and wondered if people would recognize his value if he became the king, but how? The idea became his favorite daydream, not only because he wanted others to recognize him, but also to get revenge for what they did to him... and he knew that Lorelei would hate the idea. As he watched her, Cedric imagined what she would feel when she found out what he was up to with the kingdom she loved so much, and with Roland, so he kept that from her too.
While Lorelei strengthened her bond with Roland, Cedric still saw her and they were still great friends. Spending time with her made his mind light and he forgot about the problems in his life. They would stay in the gardens at night looking at the stars and talking about how they were feeling about life, things that were happening in each other's kingdoms, and generally taking a break from the routine. And many of those times Cedric felt like kissing her, ending once and for all what he felt in his chest... but he couldn't bring himself to do it. She wouldn't want to have anything with someone like him, and even if she wanted, she couldn't. Sometimes, in those same moments, he felt that Lorelei wanted him back too, but he knew he was just being deluded.
Extra paragraph (you can consider it part of the story or not): In one of these nights, however, something happened between them. The night was so peaceful and they were feeling so comfortable with each other that they shared their first kiss. The moment was like a dream — but one that Cedric immediately needed to interrupt as soon as their display of affection finished, because he couldn't let it develop into something bigger, and he couldn't let himself believe that he had a chance with her. Furthermore, Lorelei was Roland's and there was no debate about that, even if they weren't even courting yet, Lorelai was not and could never be his. Lorelei apologized to him immediately, knowing how sudden this was, and Cedric did the same. They never spoke about that again.
It didn't take long for the news that Roland and Lorelei were courting to spread throughout the castle and both kingdoms. Everyone loved the couple, even the villagers, and they had everything they needed to be the sweetest royal couple in decades, after all, the people were waiting for their romance to happen for years.
💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
It was around the age of 25 that Roland and Lorelei announced their marriage. Cedric was happy for them, he was genuinely happy for Lorelei's happiness (maybe not for Roland's though), despite pushing his feelings aside. It was during an afternoon that Lorelei went to him to ask to be the best man at her wedding, and despite really wanting to refuse, Cedric couldn't bring himself to do it. She was his best friend and they grew up together. It was clear that this wasn't Roland's idea, because he would never choose an idiot to have such an important role on their wedding — But Lorelei, on the other way, always defended him from Roland. And then Cedric accepted, and the wedding was beautiful.
Roland and Lorelei rode throughout the village in a carriage, complete with rice throwing and music, alongside the commoners who shouted their names in chorus or stuff like "long live the king and queen!". It was amazing to see, and Cedric was happy for them, especially for Lorelei, who looked beautiful in her wedding dress and happier than she could ever be if she were with Cedric.
A few years later, at their late 20s, Roland and Lorelei tried to have successors. They didn't tell anyone about this for obvious reasons, until the situation started to become frustrating, and they no longer knew what to do. They consulted doctors, and Lorelai herself asked Cedric for a magic potion or spell that might just make it work, but it was no use (and, well, that was indeed something unsettling for him to know). Roland and Lorelei had already given up, and soon after, Lorelei simply started having dizziness and symptoms, and then they discovered that it was true, they were expecting a baby. The entire kingdom celebrated with joy, and Cedric, even though it hurt a bit, also did. Lorelei was very happy, and for that, he was glad.
Time passed and several months later, Lorelei went into labor. It was a very complicated procedure for the doctors who were present, of course. They suspected something wasn't right as soon as they started, and after a very difficult and painful afternoon, she had two twins, one 7 minutes apart from the other. She saw her two children and was so happy to have them, and the names she was previously deciding on whether she would have a boy or a girl were now both being used. King Roland was called and some other important people too, like Tilly, Baileywick, the former queen, and Lorelei's family, who were informed about the labor a few hours earlier. Everything was going great, but then Lorelei kept complaining of constant pain, and she wouldn't stop bleeding.
The meeting for the birth of the heirs, then, became something darker than it should have been. The doctors examined her and found that she was bleeding too much, and that unfortunately, they couldn't do anything. Maybe in another time, where medicine was more advanced, but not in Enchancia yet. They informed her and her family that, with the way it was going, Lorelei would not survive until tomorrow, or even until that day's night. The gathering for the birth of the babies became a condolence gathering for the Queen on her deathbed. That's how Cedric came slamming the door, and running until he knelt next to Lorelei. She was pale as a ghost, as if the joy on her face had disappeared.
With her lying there, on the verge of death, Cedric wanted to tell her the truth, but he couldn't. He couldn't do that, even if the room was empty and there were only the two of them there. Cedric couldn't see her like this, and after saying goodbye to her, he returned to his tower at dusk because he couldn't stand there and watch her die. And then, as the doctors said, Lorelei died as soon as night fell.
Cedric looked for many to blame. At first, Cedric had hatred for the twins, because if it weren't for them tearing her body in half, Lorelei would still be alive and full of light. But after his conscience took over, Cedric understood that it made no sense to be angry at such innocent beings for an unfortunate incident, especially Lorelei's children, who she loved so much and wanted so much to have. Instead, for a time, Cedric hated Roland, because if there hadn't been this miserable tradition of always having to create heirs for the throne, Lorelei would still be alive too. But in the end he knew that this was stupid too, since Lorelei always loved children and wanted these babies so much.
He was angry with Roland, but that's always been the case. He wanted to blame him for all the problems in his life, but he knew he couldn't. Roland didn't know that his wife would die too, and he also loved her as much as Cedric did. In truth, there was no one to blame in Lorelei's death, and things happened simply because that's life. It took Cedric a while to accept this, but he did.
(And if at the time he ended up finding out that Lorelei was only pregnant because Roland made a wish at a wishing well, even though he knew she was incapable of having children, Cedric would have had a big fight with him. Not a fight of words, but one of shouting, pushing, punching and who knows even worse. It would be a violent fight where at least one of them would be bedridden, and in Cedric's case, in the dungeon).
Over time, Lorelei's absence in his life was painful, but it certainly eased as time passed... However, on the other hand, unfortunately now Cedric was alone with Roland's (and the whole kingdom) ignorant comments. He had no one else to find comfort in, no one to understand him, just Wormwood- the crow, and only friend of his for a long time. Increasingly lonely and increasingly distant from social life, Cedric became a bitter and sullen sorcerer. The desires he always had to take the throne remained stronger than ever, and he always tried to find a way to achieve them, while he sank deeper and deeper into his loneliness and unhealthy habits, which he always had too, but which got worse after Lorelei's death, and he didn't even notice.
Cedric didn't like spending time with the young princes, both because he didn't like children, children are to messy and he can't stand loud cries, he didn't get along with them and the king's children reminded him a lot of Lorelei (and her death). As time passed and the wound healed, the reasons became more about the fact that he didn't know how to deal with children, despite sometimes seeing the queen in some of the heirs' traits.
As he became more and more self-centered and moody, King Roland remarried, this time to a commoner named Miranda, who soon became the queen. Just a week after her wedding ceremony, there was the arrival of the new Princess Sofia and the expectation of a ball in her honor in a few days.
As a gift from her new father, Sofia received the amulet of Avalor, which immediately made Cedric attracted to its magical properties and the use he could make of it in taking the throne. What he didn't know was that this little girl would be the cause of change in his life, and that in her he would have the friend he hadn't had for many, many years.

The combination of such a witch or wizard with a redwood wand is always intriguing, and I generally expect to hear of exciting exploits when I send this special pairing out from my workshop.
