ColourUp Top Australian Soccer Hall of Famers
Tumblr media
Mark Viduka
Mark Anthony Viduka is an Australian retired footballer who played as a centre forward. Mark was born on 9 October 1975. He captained the Australia national team to the Round of 16 at the 2006 FIFA World Cup which remains their best performance to date. His four goals in the UEFA Champions League are the most scored by any Australian player.
Viduka began his international career in a friendly series against South Africa at the age of 18 in June 1994. The first game was played in Adelaide and the second game was played in Sydney. Australia won both games 1–0. He scored his first international goal in October 1997 in the 23rd minute of a friendly game against Tunisia.
In 1996, Viduka joined the Olyroos as they competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics. In Australia's first group game they lost to France 2–0. In their second group match they defeated Saudi Arabia 2–1. Viduka scored Australia's second goal in the 63rd minute with a clever back flick past the goalkeeper. In Australia's final group game Viduka contributed early in the game with an assist to Aurelio Vidmar in the 3rd minute. Despite Australia's early 0–2 lead, Spain made a spirited comeback and won 3–2. Due to the losses to France and Spain, the Olyroos did not progress further in the tournament.
Viduka began captaining the Australia national team in September 2005 in place of the injured Craig Moore, the regular captain. His first game as captain was in a World Cup Qualifier against Solomon Islands in Sydney, in which Australia won 7–0. He scored 2 goals on the occasion including a spectacular bicycle-kick goal.
 Harry Kewell
Harold Kewell is an Australian association football coach and former player who was most recently the manager of English club Notts County. Kewell was born on 22 September 1978. Kewell played for Leeds United, Liverpool, Galatasaray, Melbourne Victory, Al-Gharafa and Melbourne Heart. While at Leeds he was named the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2000. Internationally he has received 58 caps, and scored 17 goals, while playing for the Australian national team. A left winger also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or second striker, he is often regarded within the media as "Australia's finest football export", despite his career being blighted with injury. In 2012, Kewell was named Australia's greatest footballer in a vote by Australian fans, players, and media.
Kewell scored a goal against Croatia which took Australia through to the knockout stages of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the Australian national team's second World Cup. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Australian Professional Footballers' Association. Kewell also has a British passport through his father's heritage. Former Middlesbrough midfielder-turned pundit Robbie Mustoe named Kewell as one of the greatest players he had played against but questioned his consistency and attitude after his initial injuries. Former German international Michael Ballack has also highlighted Kewell's ability and inconsistency.
Kewell has represented Australia at the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Championship, the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup, where Australia finished runners-up, the 2004 OFC Nations Cup, which Australia claimed for the fourth time, the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, where Australia finished runners-up.
 Mark Schwarzer
Mark Schwarzer is an Australian former professional association footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Mark was born on 6 October 1972. He represented Australia at international level from 1993 to 2013 and was selected for both the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.
Having progressed through the youth ranks of Colo Cougars, Penrith, Blacktown Association and Marconi Stallions, Schwarzer turned professional for National Soccer League side Marconi Stallions in 1990. After making 58 appearances for the club, he moved to German Bundesliga side Dynamo Dresden in 1994, appearing twice, and then to Bundesliga side 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 1995, appearing four times.
Schwarzer joined then-second-tier side Bradford City in 1996 and made 16 appearances before joining Premier League club Middlesbrough in February 1997. He made 445 appearances for Middlesbrough but decided to leave the club in May 2008. He then switched to Premier League side Fulham and made 218 appearances for the club until he moved to Chelsea in 2013. He was the first and to date only, non-Brit to have made more than 500 Premier League appearances (making him the highest-appearing non-Brit in the Premier League's history), and also the oldest player to have played in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. He joined Leicester City on a free transfer in January 2015 and left the club at the end of their 2015–16 Premier League-winning season.
Having played for Australia at under-17 and under-20 level, Schwarzer made his full international debut in a World Cup qualifying match against Canada in 1993 as a substitute after Robert Zabica was sent off in the 17th minute. During his international career, he won a total of 109 caps for his country. He became Australia's most capped player when he surpassed Alex Tobin's appearance record in January 2011.

12 Soccer Tricks and the Players Who Invented Them
Tumblr media
Soccer moves help you beat defenders. A good move will put defenders off balance allowing you to dribble past them into open space.
Too many players use soccer moves and tricks to show off, rather than be effective on the field. Doing moves should help you beat defenders quickly – not waste time unnecessarily.
You don’t need to learn tons of moves and tricks to beat defenders. Most great players use a few great moves that they’ve mastered.
Tricks are often used to a player's advantage, helping him get past an opponent in order to further his team's progression up the pitch. They're also used to humiliate the opposition or for sheer entertainment purposes.
The Cruyff Turn: Johan Cruyff
The Cruyff turn is one of the most famous and one of the most evasive tricks in football.
Though the Dutch hero undoubtedly performed it countless times beforehand, it was first witnessed by the masses during the 1974 World Cup in Germany.
Cruyff, one of the most talented players the game has ever seen, faked to pass the ball before dragging the ball in the opposite direction and heading into the penalty area-leaving the Swedish defender utterly baffled.
The Okocha Turn: Jay-Jay Okocha
Augustine "Jay-Jay" Okocha—the man so good, they named him twice—was one of the best tricksters the Premier League has ever seen.
The Nigerian had a number of evasive moves in his arsenal to out-manoeuvre the opposition, but his most famed trick was dubbed "the Okocha turn."
Rolling the ball one way with the studs of one boot, Okocha would then fake with his other foot to take the ball in the opposite direction but would instead step over the ball and carry on in the same way—often leaving the defender wrong-footed.
The Ronaldo Chop: Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo is full of skills and tricks and is undoubtedly one of the greatest players to ever grace the game—his recent exploits in Portugal's astonishing 3-2 win over Sweden, in which he scored a hat-trick, are proof of that.
One of Ronaldo's favourite and most successful tricks is "the Ronaldo chop."
When facing a player from the opposition, the Real Madrid man often attacks him at pace, using the inside of either foot to move the ball inside the standing leg and at such an angle that it takes him in a different direction.
The Marseille Roulette: Diego Maradona
Also known as "the 360" and "the Gringo," this move was made famous by Diego Maradona.
Whilst running at the opposition, "the Marseille roulette" is executed by using one foot to stand on the ball, spinning over it in order to shield it away from the opponent and then using the other foot to drag it away from him.
The Panenka: Antonin Panenka
One of the most cocky or most skillful ways of beating a goalkeeper from the penalty spot, "the Panenka" sees a player nonchalantly chip the ball down the centre of the goal whilst the goalkeeper dives either one way or the other. As reported on FIFA's official website, "the Panenka" first came about in the final of the 1976 European Championships.
Antonin Panenka stepped up with a chance to score the winning penalty for Czechoslovakia against Germany. Facing German custodian Sepp Maier, Panenka simply lofted the ball down the centre of the goal and past the keeper.
The Aurelio: Rodrigo Taddei
Performed on a regular basis by Rodrigo Taddei, "the Aurelio" is one of the more difficult tricks to master. Stepping over the ball with the non-kicking foot, Taddei then uses his favoured right foot to drag the ball around the outside of his left—fooling the opposition to thinking he is going one way—before whipping it on in front of him and back on to his right side.
The Step-Over: Law Adam
One of the most simple yet effective tricks in football, "the step-over" can create a player space to pass, cross or shoot if done correctly.
Many, many players have used it throughout the history of football—Chris Waddle, Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo to name a few—but it is believed that Dutch footballer Law Adam was the first to perfect the trick.
The Trivela: Ricardo Quaresma
"The Trivela" is a very effective way to play a pass or a shot when a player has been forced on to his weaker foot. Portugal's Ricardo Quaresma is an expert at "the Trivela." Having been turned onto his weaker left side, rather than using his unfavoured foot, Quaresma often uses the outside of his right foot—and to great effect.
The Back-Heel: Juan Carlos Lorenzo
"The back-heel" is one of the more simple tricks in football, but if used correctly, it can be one of the best. Simply put, when wanting to play a pass or a shot in the opposite direction from where a player is facing, "the back-heel" is the most effect method of doing just that. It is believed that Real Madrid forward Alfredo di Stefano was one of the first to execute it, after notching one of his four goals in a match against Atletico Madrid back in 1955.
The Flip-Flap: Rivelino
Also known as “the akka” or “the elastico,” Brazilian Rivelino first executed the trick during the 1970 World Cup. Often done using the player's stronger foot, the ball is moved one way—as if meaning to go past the opposition in that direction—before being whipped back, using the inside of the foot.
Ronaldinho perfected it after bursting onto the scene, and it has since been used by countless other players.
The Mule Kick: Gianfranco Zola
Fortunately, England Under-21 striker Ravel Morrison scored a goal using this trick in training recently, and it has since been dubbed "the mule kick."
Though it is sheer improvisation that forces a player to kick the ball in such a way, many players have used in throughout the history of the game, but the most famous is surely Gianfranco Zola's effort against Norwich.
The Dive: Jurgen Klinsmann
The most hated trick of them all, "the dive" has been around for years and is now adopted by many, many footballers in order to con the referee into awarding a free-kick. Though many players will have performed this trick beforehand, it first reared its ugly head properly when German international Jurgen Klinsmann took a dive during the 1990 World Cup.
So much was said about Klinsmann's dive that he adopted it as his celebration whilst playing for Tottenham in the Premier League. Love it or hate it, "the dive" is one of the most popular tricks around and, when executed properly, can be one of the more effective methods of defeating an opponent.

Australian national soccer team fixtures and results in 2019.
Tumblr media
Australia participated as title-holders in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup held in UAE in January. The draw took place in Dubai on 4 May 2018.
Australia qualified for the tournament after topping the group in the second round of the World Cup qualification campaign.
Australia was hit by injuries ahead of the Cup with upcoming teenager Daniel Arzani and starting midfielder Aaron Mooy injured before the cup and recently-debuted Scot-born Martin Boyle being injured in the final friendly match against Oman before the cup.
Australia's Asian Cup title defence commenced against Jordan and despite a pretence of favouritism due to being defending champions, Australia lost 1–0 after a headed goal from Jordan's Anas Bani Yaseen in the 26th minute.
In their second match of the group, Australia bounced back from the loss, beating Palestine 3–0, with Jamie Maclaren scoring his first goal for Australia and Awer Mabil and Apostolos Giannou scoring too.
Australia advanced from the group stage after beating Syria 3–2, with Tom Rogic scoring in injury time, following goals by Mabil and Chris Ikonomidis which put Australia in the lead.
After the first two Australian goals, Syria equalized with goals by Omar Kharbin and Omar Al Somah. In the round of 16 match against Uzbekistan, neither team scored after 90 minutes of regulation time and after 30 minutes of extra-time.
In the penalty shootout following the game, Australia progressed with a 4–2 score, after Mathew Ryan saved 2 penalties. In the quarter-final match against hosts United Arab Emirates, Australia were knocked-out of the Asian Cup after losing 1–0 with Ali Mabkhout scoring following a defensive error by Milos Degenek.
On 7 June 2019, Australia played an inexperienced side against South Korea in a friendly match in Busan. South Korea won 1–0 with Hwang Ui-jo scoring the only goal in the 76th minute.
Australia had 4 players debuting for the senior national team, with Andrew Redmayne and Brandon O'Neill starting while Brandon Borrello and Ryan Williams were substituted on.
In September 2019, Australia commenced the qualification process for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Australia started in the second round of AFC qualification which doubles as the second round of qualifiers for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
The draw for the second round was held on 17 July 2019 at AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Australia were placed in pot 1 and were drawn against Jordan, Kuwait, Chinese Taipei and Nepal.
Australia started the qualification process with a 3–0 away win over Kuwait, with stand-in skipper Mathew Leckie scoring a brace and Mooy scoring the third goal. A month later, in their first home match of the qualification process, Australia beat Nepal 5–0, with Maclaren scoring a hat-trick and Scottish-born debutant Harry Souttar scoring a brace.
5 days later, Australia travelled to Taiwan and beat Chinese Taipei 7–1, with Adam Taggart, and Jackson Irvine scoring braces while Souttar and Maclaren scored their fourth international goals in a week.
Australia finished the year in Jordan, where they had not previously beaten the hosts. An early Adam Taggart goal was the only one of the match to leave Australia with a perfect record after 4 matches of World Cup qualifying and 4 to play in the first half of 2020.

Top 10 Football/Soccer’s Most Anticipated Jerseys for 2020/2021
Tumblr media
In the midst of everything going on globally, which has unfortunately seen a lot of football kit reveals get pushed back, let us show you the Top 10 jersey designs from our ColourUp graphic design team to look out for when football/soccer is back on our screens!
10. RB Leipzig Third 2020/21
The Red Bull-owned German team usually rock the brand colours of white, red and yellow, but for their third jersey for next season, they will be wearing a blue graffiti-inspired jersey with orange detailing, in a unique street wear inspired piece designed by Nike 9. Belgium Home 2020/21
Adidas has designed several wonderful Belgian football designs in the past. However, this take on their home jersey, which was supposed to debut at the UEFA Euro 2020, takes the cake with a modern brushstroke sash design, effectively using all three colours of the Belgian flag with the yellow detailing. We look forward to seeing Eden Hazard and the team run out in these stylish kits.
8. Real Madrid Third 20/21
Whilst they may be best known for their classy all-white ensembles, Adidas has come out with a striking black and hot pink design for Real Madrid for next season, with a distressed print pattern through the black base of the jersey. This keeps in line with a large number of black alternate kit designs for Real Madrid over the past few years, but this one is our favourite.
7. Liverpool Home 20/21
Having bounced between a number of kit suppliers over the last decade, leading to a range of wild and sometimes underwhelming designs, this will be the first season Nike takes the helm for Liverpool and it’s a strong debut showing. The perfect shade of red for Liverpool, whilst introducing the retro teal-green colour to accent the design marks both a fresh start design-wise for the European (and soon-to-be English) champions, whilst throwing back to glory days of past for the club.
6. Netherlands Home 2020/21
It’s hard to go wrong with orange and black, and in the decades that Nike has designed jerseys for the Dutch national team, they’ve nailed it just about every time. For the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament, the Netherlands will be wearing a sharp all orange kit with black detailing and to top it off, a geometric lion head pattern sublimated and embossed into the base of the shirt. All class, in our opinion.
5. Paris Saint Germain Fourth Kit 20/21
Paris Saint Germain are at the forefront of jersey design just about every season, and ever since they have become the cross-collaboration through Nike with their Jordan brand, it’s gone to a whole other level. If it was up to us, we’d have all four Paris kits in this list but we will stick to one that stands out – their fourth kit, inspired by the Parisian sunset, with a beautiful pink and purple gradient pattern makes this one of the more unique designs we’ve seen. The line between jersey design and art just gets blurrier.
4. Germany Away 2020/21
Blackout jerseys are becoming more and more common, often used as an anniversary or celebratory kits these days, and it can get a bit stale. Not for Adidas with their take on the German away jersey for the Euro 2020 tournament, it just works so well with the German flag colours along the sleeve cuff and the retro collar and shoulder cut, throwing back to the 90s, it’s a flawless kit perfect for both on the field and the streets
3. Inter Milan Home 20/21
Another shining example of Nike thinking out of the box with a classic design, this all-class kit for Inter Milan uses a striking zig zag pattern along with a vibrant shade of blue to create a dazzling kit for the Italian greats, whilst giving strong vibes of the classic 2010 “diamonds” design. This will go down as one of the greats.
2. FC Barcelona Home Kit 20/21 Again with PSG, if we could we’d probably have all four of Barcelonas kits for the upcoming season on this list. However, we have stuck to just one and it’s the most important of all. Nike’s design for the Barca home jersey this season feels like a true Barcelona jersey as opposed to some of the more “out there” designs we’ve seen over the years. The red and blue stripes are classic Barcelona, with yellow pinstripes and detailing showing off the club’s Catalan pride.
1.AS Roma Home 20/21
It’s almost impossible for us to go past the AS Roma kit by Nike as our most anticipated jersey design for next season, with the throwback pattern across the chest as per the 1980’s jersey, considered one of the best of all time. It’s simple, it’s sharp, it’s Roma. We love it, and we can’t wait to see more of it. Faultless. We hope you’ve enjoyed this article about our most anticipated jersey designs for the 2020/21 season, and I look forward to seeing your thoughts in the comments. If your football club, whether it’s a social futsal team, a local junior football team, or a seniors club, we at ColourUp Uniforms would love to help you. Sporting apparel is our passion and we love designing bespoke, unique jersey designs. We’re all about high-quality products at low prices, so feel free to check us out at www.colourp.com.au

Healthy Diet for Australian Soccer Players.
Tumblr media
Soccer (also known as football) is a team-based sport played in two 45-minute halves with a 15 minute break between halves. A team involves 10 players on the field plus a goalkeeper. Soccer is played all year round with the number of weekly matches varying between competitions. In Australia, the main competitive season (A-League) is played between October and March and involves a one match per week match usually on weekends.
About Soccer
Soccer (also known as football) is a team-based sport played in two 45-minute halves with a 15 minute half-time break. A team has 11 players on the field during a game – 10 field players plus a goalkeeper. A team can also have 3 substitute players. Once a player is substituted off they cannot play again in the match.
Other than the goalkeeper, players are unable to use their hands during a match so must be very skilful with using their feet and body to control the ball during play.
Soccer is played year round with the number of weekly matches varying between competitions. In Australia, the main competitive season (A-League) is played between October and May and involves one match per week, usually on weekends. There are also major international tournaments such as the World Cup (held every 4 years).
Soccer training sessions and matches are aerobic and anaerobic activities. Soccer training can be physically demanding depending on the level of competition. Individual nutrition requirements will be determined by training load, specific athlete needs, training goals, body composition goals, health and adjustment for growth in younger players.
During matches players are required to switch between walking, jogging, running and sprinting (at times while using their speed and agility to also control the ball). During an elite level match, players can cover around 10km, accelerate 40-60 times, and change direction frequently.
These patterns of play can substantially reduce muscle fuel stores (glycogen), which can cause fatigue and lead to a dramatic reduction in running speeds during later stages of the game if not well managed.
Soccer players must be skilled, fast, agile and strong with a high level of aerobic fitness. Although soccer players come in various shapes and sizes, low body fat levels can be beneficial for speed and agility.
Training diet for soccer
A general healthy eating pattern helps to support the needs of fit, energetic and lean players. Nutrition plans should be based around lean proteins for muscle repair and recovery, carbohydrates appropriately timed for fuel. In addition, fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and wholegrains provide important vitamins and minerals, along with some healthy fats such as avocado, nuts, olive oily and oily fish such as salmon.
Soccer players should adjust their food and fluid intake to match their training load. For example, during heavy training periods, a diet rich in carbohydrate foods is important to provide adequate fuel to reduce fatigue, sustain performance and promote recovery. During lighter training periods or rest days, a less carbohydrate is needed given the lower energy demands on the body.
Soccer is a professional career at an elite level, however many amateur players also have work and study commitments to manage around their soccer schedules. To manage this busy lifestyle good nutrition habits are important and make a huge difference on and off the field.
Hydration needs
Fluid requirements during matches can be considerable due to the high intensity of a match (further exacerbated if hot weather). Dehydration can negatively impact soccer performance – particularly endurance, speed, skill execution and decision-making.
Having fluids with all meals and snacks, carrying a water bottle throughout the day, and drinking 200-600ml of fluid just before the start of training are useful strategies to optimise hydration levels. When training, players should make use of any break opportunities to grab a drink. During intense or long sessions, sports drinks can be useful as they contain carbohydrates to help replace energy stores plus fluid and electrolytes for rehydration.
Rehydrating after training is particularly important – especially if training in hot weather or with training sessions close together. The addition of electrolytes to fluids or consuming salty foods alongside fluids (e.g. vegemite on crackers) can help with rehydration goals.
What to eat before games
It’s important to start matches well-fuelled. Each player is different, but most will often eat a pre-game meal around 3 to 4 hours before the start of the match. This meal should contain some carbohydrate for fuel as well as some fluids for hydration. A small amount of protein in the pre-game meal is also useful, as it can help to prevent hunger during the game.
Some suitable pre-game meal ideas can include:
Wrap or sandwich with chicken and salad
Bowl of muesli with yoghurt and berries
Pasta with beef mince in tomato-based sauce
Pumpkin soup served with bread rolls
Chicken stir-fry with rice or quinoa
Many players will also have an additional small snack 1-2 hours prior to the game. This is often something light that is rich in carbohydrate but relatively low in fat and fibre so it is easy to digest.
Some suitable pre-game snack ideas include:
Yoghurt with fruit salad
Banana and a handful of almonds
Peanut butter on rice cakes
Toast with vegemite and cheese
If solids don’t sit well before a game, or players are very nervous, a liquid source of protein and carbohydrate such as a fruit smoothie can be a good option.
What to eat and drink during games
Players should work closely with an Accredited Sports Dietitian to trial nutrition strategies during training and matches to find which foods work best for each player.
Hot environments, combined with high-intensity exercise can lead to high sweat losses. Opportunities to drink during matches are limited to the warm-up and half time break but informal breaks in play (e.g. injury time) can also be useful. Players should start the match well hydrated by drinking adequate fluids leading up to the match. Producing regular amounts of clear urine is a useful indicator of good hydration status before exercise.
Although the half-time break is brief, it is the only opportunity for consuming carbohydrate during play. Players with a high workload (e.g. midfielders) will benefit the most from consuming a carbohydrate snack during the break because these players tend to have the greatest requirements for carbohydrate and fluid during a game.
Chopped fruit or muesli bars are quick, easy-to-eat options. Alternatively, specialised sports nutrition products such as energy bars, gels and sports drinks can be quick to eat.
While water is the priority fluid during training and for hydration during the day, and in most matches. Sports or electrolyte drinks may be useful during a game for players identified as having high energy requirements or heavy fluid losses as they can deliver some fuel and electrolytes.
Post-match recovery
Recovery meals and snacks should contain carbohydrate (fuel), some protein (for muscle repair and development) and plenty of fluids and electrolytes to replace sweat losses.
A recovery meal or snack should be consumed soon after exercise period, remembering that recovery nutrition extends well beyond the initial hours post-game, particularly when the next training session or game is the next day.  Fluids (mainly water) should also be consumed, based on estimated losses.
Some recovery food suggestions include:
Chicken, avocado and salad sandwich
Dairy-based fruit smoothie
Yoghurt + muesli with nuts and seeds
Burritos with beef, cheese, avocado and salad
