"I said sit down and write your intention statements. Okay. No one is leaving this office until my inbox is full."
"It's been an incredibly long day. Can I get it in first thing tomorrow?"
"No! That was on the stapler, and it hurt, which is making me more mad. So the intentions are getting done now."

April 11, 2023: Running Orders, Lena Khalaf Tuffaha
Running Orders Lena Khalaf Tuffaha
They call us now, before they drop the bombs. The phone rings and someone who knows my first name calls and says in perfect Arabic “This is David.” And in my stupor of sonic booms and glass-shattering symphonies still smashing around in my head I think, Do I know any Davids in Gaza? They call us now to say Run. You have 58 seconds from the end of this message. Your house is next. They think of it as some kind of war-time courtesy. It doesn’t matter that there is nowhere to run to. It means nothing that the borders are closed and your papers are worthless and mark you only for a life sentence in this prison by the sea and the alleyways are narrow and there are more human lives packed one against the other more than any other place on earth Just run. We aren’t trying to kill you. It doesn’t matter that you can’t call us back to tell us the people we claim to want aren’t in your house that there’s no one here except you and your children who were cheering for Argentina sharing the last loaf of bread for this week counting candles left in case the power goes out. It doesn’t matter that you have children. You live in the wrong place and now is your chance to run to nowhere. It doesn’t matter that 58 seconds isn’t long enough to find your wedding album or your son’s favorite blanket or your daughter’s almost completed college application or your shoes or to gather everyone in the house. It doesn’t matter what you had planned. It doesn’t matter who you are. Prove you’re human. Prove you stand on two legs. Run.

Neil Hamilton and Constance Bennett in What Price Hollywood? (George Cukor, 1932)
Cast: Constance Bennett, Lowell Sherman, Neil Hamilton, Gregory Ratoff, Brooks Benedict, Louise Beavers, Eddie Anderson. Screenplay: Jane Murfin, Ben Markson, Gene Fowler, Rowland Brown, based on a story by Adela Rogers St. John. Cinematography: Charles Rosher. Art direction: Carroll Clark. Film editing: Del Andrews, Jack Kitchin. Music: Max Steiner.
Bradley Cooper's 2018 film A Star Is Born is often called a remake of the films by that title starring Fredric March and Janet Gaynor in 1937, James Mason and Judy Garland in 1954, and Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand in 1976. But all four of them can trace their origin to What Price Hollywood?, produced by David O. Selznick and directed by George Cukor in 1932. The name is different but the plot's the same: A successful man in the entertainment business discovers a young woman whom he helps become a star, but as her career ascends, his personal problems send him into a tailspin. if there's any doubt about the link with What Price Hollywood? and at least the first A Star Is Born, both were produced by Selznick. RKO, which released What Price Hollywood?, threatened to sue Selznick over the similarities, but decided against it. Selznick also asked Cukor to direct the 1937 film, but Cukor declined, so William A. Wellman took it on. But then Cukor went on to direct the 1954 Star Is Born. I don't think there's any direct connection between What Price Hollywood? and the 1976 version, produced by Streisand and Jon Peters and directed by Frank Pierson, but the lineage by then was obvious. The idea for the original film is a natural in a Hollywood that had become increasingly conscious of its own myth, and many real-life rising-star-falling-mentor analogs can be found in the history of the industry. Selznick commissioned Adela Rogers St. Johns, a former reporter for Photoplay and the Hearst newspapers, to write the story for the film, and various other hands turned it into a screenplay, though St. Johns and Jane Murfin claimed most of the credit when they were nominated for an Oscar for best original story. The film begins with a touch of screwball comedy when Max Carey (Lowell Sherman), an alcoholic director, encounters Mary Evans (Constance Bennett), a waitress at the Brown Derby looking for her chance to break into the movies. After some funny scenes involving Max's drunkenness and Mary's initial ineptness as an actress, the movie unfortunately begins to get serious. Though it's clear Mary really loves Max, when she becomes a big star she marries a society polo player, Lonny Borden (Neil Hamilton), after a somewhat cutesy courtship. But Borden is unhappy being "Mr. Mary Evans," and eventually storms out, though she's pregnant. Meanwhile, Max's decline continues, and after Mary rescues him from the drunk tank and promises to rehabilitate him, he shoots himself, thereby embroiling her in a headline-making scandal. But then Borden returns to apologize and all is well again. What keeps the film alive despite its clichés are the performances. Bennett is quite charming, and Sherman clearly models Max on John Barrymore, whom he knew well: He was married to Helene Costello, whose sister, Dolores, was Barrymore's third wife. The supporting cast includes Gregory Ratoff as the producer of Mary's films, Louise Beavers as (of course) her maid, and Eddie Anderson as Max's chauffeur -- five years before he became famous as Jack Benny's chauffeur, Rochester, on radio.

RHONJ Season 13 Trailer Reaction!
Tumblr media
There’s going to be a wedding in New Jersey but I’m thanking that it doesn’t appear to be a season about a bridezilla.
No, instead it’s going to be a falling out between the Giudice and Gorgas once again and may the Bravo Gods have mercy on our souls.
But while Melissa Gorga and Joe Gorga fight with Teresa Giudice for not including Melissa in the wedding, Frank Catania is upset with Dolores Catania’s new relationship.
Dolores’ new boyfriend isn’t as generous with sharing her with her ex-husband as David was, and frankly, Dolores deserves a real boyfriend.
Margaret Josephs still look obsessed with Jennifer Aydin, but Jennifer still struggles with her marriage after the affair was revealed last season.
And Jackie Goldschneider has been demoted to a friend on the show, while Bravo gambled on adding two new housewives this season:
Danielle Cabral and Rachel Fuda are the new addition, and we’ll see if they’ve got what it takes to be a housewife.
They certainly seem Jerseylicious enough to navigate one of the most difficult cast in the entire franchise.
By the way, “a glamorous Tim Burton character” is a description that’s right up my ally.
Judging from this trailer alone, I’m excited! About everything! Everything! One of the best shows returns on February the 7th to save the winter.
RHOP and RHOSLC has been disappointing, while RHOM has been amazing and bingeworthy so far.
Bravo needs to prove themselves and I’m hoping the Jersey girls are the ones to do it. This group is dramatic, entertaining and funny.
To see the Aydins drunk on Jersey Shore again and the chaos at Dolores’ baseball charity game is promising enough for me.
And if all else fails, there’s another cheating rumour circulating in this group, as if they learned nothing the previous years.
But the Gorgas won’t learn about the rumour until the season finale, so…
The main drama between the Gorgas and Giudice seems to be the wedding, to the point of Joe threatening to fight Luis Ruelas.
I’ve got hope for Real Housewives. It’s going to be great.

This is what he wants to name our company and it really means that we are the ones controlling the clouds it's got true too I really it says that King David is controlling the harlequin which really is warlock it's a whole bunch of them and King David was a Mac and he's not the one who hit Goliath It was someone his name in vain we're going to proceed using this name and people think that it's the max including the max and we're going to compete with s&s who is Trump but he doesn't make maney motors at all people don't see the purpose of it no to try and buy him and he doesn't send them so they don't buy them. We would take over the company but it's pretty deep in there into their territory and the way they make the motors it's not even worth it by hand that's why I cost so much money and we have machines doing it even if it's my hand is really assist and we're going to go ahead and start this idea of the evolution too and as usual we'll start with the Sportster and it is going to be awesome it's going to be a real motor finally he said she'll be a little bit heavier but not 2 or 300 pounds and a transmission is gigantic and that's going to be trimmed down use a little larger one because it does help but that's massive it's used for something else but we don't want people using them for that it's like the center of the centrifuge but they don't even dismantle them they just keep driving around there's a waste of time and the regular Harley will wait about 900 pounds and hours will weigh about 610 lb and about 75% of weight change is reduction in the weight in the motor and he wants to do it ahead of time cuz people need motors and they need motors now so he said we can make the motor and we can make it look kind of gnarly on the outside and also concentrate on the inside and we know how to do that and it's a casting and you have to cast it in pieces except for the cylinder head you can't so we know how to make it look kind of mean on the outside that's what we're going to do if we find it for your son Holly and I'll make it not obvious except for the name of a company trying to sell them that's Harley Davidson motors the valves are different and the intake is different and the exiting it sounds a little different not much though it still has a real beefy sound to it it's just that they will perform much better than any circumstances and it's made to be carbureted and it's protected from rain and they're all liquid cool and the jacket and we're going to start this company and really it's going to be kind of a rough gnarly company and usually the empire says we put it out there and some idiots start making the motors and we're going to do this now there's a couple more changes but things are happening today and all those battles are heating up right now
Thor Freya
Something bad timing to start talking to Stan as a good thing to start earlier in a month is not bad and he's probably going to try and talk to you today that's what we see
Frank Castle hardcastle
It's under a lot of stress and his family is messed up and he had them and that was probably just about it so I understand that it says we're kind of odds and uncle so we're going to do the job and Camilla is not the greatest it's true when they mix them up like that it's not really that great I only started to attack her and Dolores was to text and then put into that situation and yes she changed of course and they're not great people when they're mixed together it's a nightmare for the separates are gang and you deal with it that way and they want to go back to their own way and people trying to do it and this child of yours is trying to preserve both of you and for some reason he was angry we don't know why something about the mental hospital he hates it and we don't want you there we have you already in an apartment and we might lose you if we put you in the hospital it says it too usually they put him in a home and we get that
Stan
Everything here is itchy and annoying and these people pushes so hard everyone on Earth is going after them and they just can't resist the empire it's a tough one it makes you feel bad and they bring up history and they bring up abuse and they rub it in there horrible people are worse than anything I've seen and we are renewing the lease and these guys are not supposed to be there but they're a huge pain I mean I've never seen people behave so badly they're horrible to him and us and yeah you have to shut the battery off a little bit they turned it on and absorbed electricity and their finger and it does reset the battery it's got like a vapor lock or something it does that after you charge it and let it sit it like reduces charge without sending it out or something
Sherry
It is kind of a vapor lock and it's kind of a way people say it who knows stuff about batteries and Trump was pissed off cuz I was going to try to ruin it is that the other people and they're driving around making fun of him. What he's doing the shed is ridiculous and people are making fun of him for that and several people have called the town and said that it was not permitted and they're going to try and remove it and it's moving his stuff into it from the apartment because they're going to kick him out of there and they're going to kick him out of the other one we heard and they're helping Stan do it and you're going to make sure it gets done and that's these pseudo empire and they're expelling Dave too so those things are in the works and we heard them say it sort of it's on the radio
Big joe
So everybody heard it and it's true it's funny cuz Bill is trying to recover from this idiots ringing and he does it to everybody and it's slander and eventually we're going to assume but really he's a huge a****** along with his Tommy F we don't know what they're doing and they serve the max for years many of them did and it's horrified now they're checking out and pretty fast with this nice stuff and soon it's going to go over the top and people that are sending gangs out and tear them apart
Preston
We're getting ready for that and they are doing it in many areas a lot more than before the numbers of theirs are going down fast and that's the warlock. All of them. They are getting knifed. And heard about 14% last night and it dropped down to about 13% and it's going down now it's almost to 12.9% and no it's almost at 12% and that's these two idiots Brian and Trump and a few others that are Mac morlock that's pretty bad and it's only a few hours but these battles and conflicts are heating up up north just starting to lose we anticipate 3% there and they're trying to take over Florida again with armies just continuously getting here and we take those 2% today how's it going down and trying for Karen's of Max and it's only 1% but it's all the hardware and troops they have all in all probably will cut them in half today and they'll be down to 6% off Island and other warlock will be trailing behind with losses in total they started with 30% the other day of the general populace and by the end of today probably a 20% and tomorrow 18 or so percent and continuously dropping half of them are more are on the islands and they're going to evacuate and the numbers will become abysmal and be week

CELEBRATING THE 25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS – intro by David D. Fowler, the Canuck Crank – playlist by Aeon 999, the Lone Antifa – updated & expanded Jan 18, 2023
Most everyone in this culture has heard The Twelve Days Of Christmas way too many times. It's played to death during this season, and ain't exactly my favourite Xmas ditty; but it does serve as a good reminder that this grandest of all holidays should properly be marked by more than one paltry day. So I have evolved a perfectly logical way to extend my personal revelries to a foolhardy extreme.
It's well known that Protestants and Catholics honour 12 days, from December 25 to January 5. Less well known is the fact that Eastern Orthodox believers mark the occasion from January 7 to 18. So some years ago, I had a brain wave: Why not combine the two traditions into one big blowout, lasting 25 days? Being a non-denominational believer has its advantages!
Accordingly, if y'all wanna prolong your celebrations in like manner, MFF is here to help with links to many highly entertaining resources, designed to enhance your own private 25 Days Of Christmas – by offering access to well over 250 carefully curated festive videos. They start in this post, and continue in the newly revised and updated editions of our best previous holiday posts.
You can watch complete editions of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, HANDEL’S MESSIAH, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, THE POLAR EXPRESS, THE FOURTH WISE MAN,  THE SNOW QUEEN, BACH’S CHRISTMAS ORATORIO, THE NUTCRACKER BALLET, A CHILD'S CHRISTMAS IN WALES, RUDOLPH THE REINDEER, and HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS.
We also feature a wide variety of comedy, ranging from MONTY PYTHON, STEPHEN COLBERT, LAUREL & HARDY, ROWAN ATKINSON, CHARLIE CHAPLIN, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, and BETTY BOOP, to PORKY PIG, STEVE MARTIN, the MUPPETS, the BEATLES, DAFFY DUCK, HOME ALONE, the PEANUTS GANG, JIMMY KIMMEL, and lots of cartoon SANTAS.
As for music, you can enjoy everything from ELVIS PRESLEY, BOB DYLAN, BARBRA STREISAND, JOHNNY CASH, BJORK, LOREENA McKENNITT, FRANK SINATRA, PRINCE, and ANNIE LENNOX, to LUCIANO PAVAROTTI, BILLIE HOLIDAY, CELINE DION, KATE BUSH, EMMYLOU HARRIS, DAVID BOWIE, DOLORES O'RIORDAN, JOAN BAEZ, CAROLYN ARENDS, and NAT KING COLE.
So we cordially invite y'all to enjoy MFF's YULETIDE CORNUCOPIA. The following items provide a good cross-section of the kind of stuff we like; and the links in the bottom section go to our earlier posts. We especially draw your attention to our 2020 epic, JOYFUL CHRIST MASS AMID A CATASTROPHIC YEAR. As Elvis was fond of saying: MURRY KRIMMUS to y'all, muh friends.

Aunt Marguerita’s Shawl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brussels lace shawl (GTC 8905)
These photographs show details of a beautiful black Brussels lace shawl donated to the Collection in 1959 by Rachel’s cousin, Mrs Dolores Marguerita Shennan, née Parish (1867-1960), who was always known as “Lola”.
Dating from the 1850s, the large shawl measures 1910 x 1900 cm and originally belonged to Lola’s mother, Marguerita Parish. Designed to be worn over the fashionable crinoline dresses, it would have been very expensive when new. Rachel was a skilled lace maker herself, and her descriptions (both on the label and in the Accession Register) emphasise the high quality and fine workmanship of this shawl:-
“Mid XIX century. Superb black Bobbin Brussels shawl… Magnificent design. The border has 3 open flowers edging a scroll alternating with a lovely vine leaf (6” across)….In the centre medallions & superb sprays of flowers make an exquisite pattern…. All the design is in “linen” or whole stitch with a trolley outline over a very fine even bobbin net”
Lola Shennan was Lady Blanche’s niece; the only daughter of her older half-brother, Francis Woodbine-Parish (1824-1906) and his wife, Margaret Miller (1841-1926). Both of Lola's parents were born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and married there in 1855. Lola’s mother was always known in the family as “Aunt Marguerita” - presumably as an acknowledgement of her South American background.
The Woodbine Parish connections with Argentina dated from 1823, when Rachel’s grandfather, Sir Woodbine Parish (1796-1882), was appointed as the British Consul General for Buenos Aires. Sir Woodbine left Argentina in 1832, but his son Francis (known as Frank) was also in the diplomatic service, and would follow in his father's footsteps. Frank first served in China, and then became the Consul General in Buenos Aires in 1853, and Consul from 1861-73.
In the 1860s, British companies built the two largest railways in Argentina, the Central and the Southern; and Frank became involved with the financing of the Buenos Aires Great Southern Railway. This venture proved very successful and Frank amassed a large fortune. He was a greatly respected businessman, and was still the Chairman of the London Board of the company in 1898 - although by then in his seventies. His son-in-law, David Shennan, was also a Director of the company.
Frank Parish retired from the diplomatic service due to ill health in 1873. He returned to England, where he lived at 5 Gloucester Square, Hyde Park - a very prestigious London address. It was listed on the 1911 Census as a 20 roomed house, and the staff included a butler, footman and cook, and several maids.
Tumblr media
Photograph from one of Rachel’s albums, at Barbon in August, 1902. Lola Shennan is the lady in the centre and her husband, David, is to the left of her. Three of the men are obviously dressed for a shoot. Barbon was originally built as a “shooting box” and was used for entertaining family and friends. (GTC Archives)
Lola’s marriage to David Anderson Shennan would continue the Argentinian family connections, as David was the owner of the Estancia Negretti, near Buenos Aires. When they married in May, 1891 at Lancaster Gate, London, Rachel’s eldest sister, Angela, was one of the bridesmaids. Lord and Lady Shuttleworth appeared on the guest lists in the newspapers.
Lola’s wedding ensemble was described as:-
“a very handsome dress, the petticoat being of satin duchesse festooned around the hem with old Brussels lace (the gift of her mother, who wore it on the occasion of her own marriage) caught with silver bows; the Court train and Louis coat bodice were of white and silver brocade in a design of true-lovers’ knots, the former being bordered down one side with the same exquisite lace and silver bows, and the latter edged all round with narrow passementerie, and finished with ruffles of old lace. Clusters of real orange blossom were worn in the hair, with a tulle veil, attached by three diamond stars, her other jewels being pearls. (John Bull, 9 May 1891)
Lola also donated her “Louis coat bodice” to the Collection, but sadly the lace ruffles and silver bows have all been unpicked and removed, presumably for re-use. Rachel recorded on the label for the bodice that she and her younger brother, Lawrence, wore black velvet outfits to the wedding - they would have been only five and four years old.
David and Lola had three sons: Douglas Francis, born in 1892: Kenneth Gordon in 1894 and Malcolm David, 1897. Sadly, two sons were to die very young - Malcolm died in 1914, aged sixteen, and Douglas was killed in action near Ypres in 1915, aged twenty four.
David Shennan was sixteen years older than Lola, and he died in 1919, leaving the present day equivalent of £18.7 million. Lola was a widow for over forty years, until her death in 1960.

Above: Portrait of Lola taken by the famous society photographer, Dorothy Wilding, who had very successful studios in both London and New York, and included theatre and movie stars among her clients. Although undated, the reverse of this photograph lists the studio address as 22 Old Bond Street; Wilding had moved there in 1923, and Lola’s hairstyle would suggest a date of the 1920s to 1930s.
(Photograph courtesy of the Newbery family)
Lola's choice of photographer gives an indication of her high social status. Dorothy Wilding (1892-1976) was appointed as the official photographer for the 1937 Coronation - she had previously photographed the Royal family and they approved of her work. In addition, Dorothy's formal portraits of the young Queen Elizabeth II on her accession in 1952, were used for the design of the new postage stamps, coins and banknotes.
The National Portrait Gallery holds the surviving archive of Dorothy's photographs. Sadly, the Bond Street studio was destroyed in the Blitz, with the loss of her pre-war negatives and prints.

youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

She made a monster: How Mary Shelley Created Frankenstein (Felicita Sala, Lynn Fulton) Questa storia spettrale ma affascinante parla dell'autrice Mary Shelley e di come sia stata ispirata a creare Frankenstein in giovane età.
