"Max came to my place with Buchla and we spent a week in the studio, back in 2013 or 2014. It was all improvised, just recording tons of stuff. I then afterwards went through the recordings and did some editing, selecting suitable parts etc. And then produced the material. I released two EPs on my own label also back in 2014 i think.

Now i went through the archives and chose unreleased tracks, produced and mixed them in 2019.

DU™️ amaranth_todd - the body is a prison Cat# DU-HYPRGLTCH8 https://amaranthtodd.bandcamp.com/album/the-body-is-a-prison amaranth_todd The Body is a Prison cat# DU-HYPRGLTCH8 The Body is a Prison is a deep dive into an emotional inner world, seemingly just as ready to explode into violence as it is to crumble in despair, but still somehow floating on a sense of wonder. Insane sound design glitches interject beautifully composed piano and synth layers, weaving together into some sort of enormous mechanism. Rhythms coalesce and fall apart, melodies float between seemingly infinite states, everything reshaping itself as we go deeper and deeper into the imagined world. Everything from the cohesive sonic palette, to the flow of each song and phrase, to the journey of the whole album has been considered in incredible detail. If this is Amaranth Todd’s early work in hyperglitch, I think we should all be excited for (and afraid of) what’s to come. Amaranth’s sound design, oscillations between obscured and clear pulse, dynamic forms, and mosaic layers are exactly what I imagine when I think of hyperglitch, and is exactly the type of music Philippe Macnab-Seguin and I have been working on outlining in our forthcoming paper about Hyperglitch and Aural Sonology. All the while, Amaranth’s many years of musical experience bring new and exciting ideas to the style.
