Philippa & Dijkstra friendship AH. They both think the other one is the pet and they’re both right. Dijk is Phil’s loyal dog that she dresses in studded collars and feeds red meat to with a kiss on his forehead. Phil is Dijk’s cageless bird that he always keeps a window open for, and always has a mouse in his pocket to keep her full. She walks him on a leash, he carries her on a finger.

The respect they have for each other is always laced with a level of condescension and uneven ideas of superiority, but it’s also genuine and more than anything it’s safe. Mostly.

“I love you because it amuses me and it makes this bullshit life a little easier, you love me because I keep you fed, you poor thing.” Type of narrative. AND they’re exes.

Anyway Dijkstra is one of my favorite book characters and while I'm by no means a book purist and there are many twn characters who I personally feel are more compelling and fleshed out and adapted in interesting ways in the show.... not Dijkstra.

Sorry. That's not my guy. Not in looks and not in character and not in role in the story. Twn failed to cast appropriately s2 and beyond that, he's just a different more boring guy who doesn't interest me at all.

But! I've decided to respond to that dislike by just comitting to writing my preferred version for the folks who like that guy too.

It's similar to my feelings about twn!geralt (and like what folks do with game!Lambert) where I can and will simply ignore all of that and supplant my preferred version into my own fic and headcanons. Even in twn fic, just assume my Dijkstra is not that guy and my Geralt is not that guy.

like I think one problem ppl are having with the witcher (besides being fans of the books which, guys, believe me, once you forget everything about the books, you learn to like big screen adaptations. I just watched the hunger games and loved it, even though I fucking detested the movie when I was 11) is that they wanna analyze every little thing. guys, this isn't game of thrones. stop looking for depth, treat this like trash like- idk, the walking dead (that show was bad, right? I never actually watched it...). just be there for the funny lines and the relationships and the pretty characters and scenery and awesome music and fight scenes, that's it! there's no use choosing a side or trying to expect the best writing out of it. everyone is stinky and bad except ciri, everyone is irredeemably flawed and fucked up. everything is a tangled mess because the world created for the show is currently a tangled mess! all that really matters to me are the characters and the aesthetics, and that's why I'm having so much fun! turn off your brain, I promise you'll like the witcher much more

I have only now found out that they made Jaskier bi in the latest season of TWN and paired him off with RADOViD?!?? I know they aged him up but holy shit I can't believe this show everything I learn about it is against my will

The show is basically really shitty fanfiction at this point, and imo it’s always been a sexed-up cash grab that was not at all intended to cater to or satisfy long term book/games fans. It’s bullshit and I hate it lmao
