the goldcrests; elyris goldcrest

elyris, born some time in the late 10th or early 11th century, was the son of the infamous eadric spinebreaker. he took up the mantle of his father and lead the goldcrest rebellion until his death. it was said that his mother, vela the blood-witch, had used ancient magic while pregnant and that's why elyris was able to wield fire magic so aptly, and lived to an impossibly old age. neither vela nor elyris ever confirmed whether this was true. he was the first one to use the name goldcrest, given to him due to the shape his patronus took. at first, it was used to mock him, but elyris quickly turned the nickname to his advantage. he married lady nienna wenlock who became a beloved leader in the goldcrest rebellion. their son aegar would later create a proto-deathly hallow, a crown which was meant to give its wearer power so great that no one would be able to stand in their way. because the goldcrest name was expunged from history, few today know the story of the rebellion and the great and horrible deeds committed by this one family in their search for power and glory to last an age.

house goldcrest; a brief history

late 10th to early 11th century was dominated by many wizarding conflicts. eadric spinebreaker was, at first, a friend and an ally of salazar slytherin, but the two became bitter enemies. eadric was a talented wizard, but his true power lay in his dragon, thorog, with whom he terrorized his enemies.

eadric’s wife was a mysterious witch by the name of vela, who dabbled in blood magic. she was the one to receive the goldcrest prophecy, which promised that a child would be born of their bloodline that had the power to rule over all wizard-kind. it was said, that a great comet would light the sky on the night of the child’s birth.

eadric and vela together had a son, elyris, but no comet appeared. despite this, elyris continued his parents’ quest for power once he came of age. he was the one to first try and make a proto-deathly hallow, the crown of might. it was meant to give its wearer unimaginable powers, even those over life and death. nobody had expected the son of spinebreaker to gain half the power his father had wielded, but he surprised everyone by being a savvy politician and a great commander. he became known as goldcrest due to the shape his patronus took. though only taking the shape of a small bird, he was able to keep away scores of dementors.

eventually it was his son, aegar, who managed to create the crown, though it was not perfect. its powers were not as great as aegar would’ve hoped and more work needed to be done. aegar was not deterred. he had inherited his father and grandfather’s considerable talent in magic, but none of their vicious nature. aegar married the great granddaughter of his grandfather’s old friend and rival, salazar slytherin. kerina was a powerful witch and she no doubt contributed to her husband’s rise to power.

kerina and aegar had two sons, elyan and theodric. on the night of theodric’s birth the portent which had been promised finally appeared. a comet lit the night sky and aegar was overjoyed. he clearly favoured his younger son over his older one, leading to a rift between the brothers. elyan became a ruthless warrior, while theodric grew constantly more unsure of his destiny as a leader. both the brothers were sorted into slytherin at the start of their hogwarts careers.

when the boys were teenagers, aegar’s enemies sent a pair of vampires to attack the family in the dead of night, when aegar was not home. elyan and theodric were turned into vampires, while kerina perished in the attack. aegar tried everything in his power to reverse the vampire curse on his sons, even going so far as to put them both under an enchanted sleep so he wouldn’t have to worry about anyone finding out about their transformation. before aegar could find a cure, he was killed and his sons remained under the sleeping spell for hundreds of years. the crown of might disappeared after the death of aegar.

in the late 1800s the hiding place of the brothers was found by a distant relative of theirs from the peverell line. he managed to wake them up, though he was killed in the attempt. elyan and theodric took the names elian and theo and tried to get accustomed to the new century they found themselves in. eventually they returned to hogwarts to complete their education and find any information they could about their family, and most importantly, their father’s powerful crown.

in the 1900s theo and elian stayed mostly away from hogwarts, due to dumbledore’s presence. they knew he was also interested in finding the proto-hallow, and didn’t want to let him know they were still alive. they only returned in the early 2000s to continue their search...

Aegar was born to Elyris who was also known as “Goldcrest”, because of his patrounus that took a form of a small bird but was unusually powerful. He had great dreams of becoming the king of all wizards. His ambition never came to be but was passed on to his son Aegar. Aegar was kinder than him but just as eager for power. He married Kerina of Archensheen, the great granddaughter of Salazar Slytherin and together they had two sons. Elyan Goldcrest was the oldest, a skilled wizard and a warrior, often brutal in action wanting to prove his worth. The younger son Theodric was born on the night of a comet. Aegar saw him as his true heir and crowed him along himself and his wife. They had a large number of followers on their prime time but eventually their world was shattered when there was an attack by a group of vampires against the family. The two sons were turned into vampires and Kerina could not been saved. It caused Aegar to spell his sons under a spell to sleep in hopes of maybe one day finding a cure once he himself would achieve his goal and status. Aegar was not successful in his actions and eventually his enemies got to him and he was uncrowned and killed. The legend says that the crown that Aegar wore held secret power that could possibly make you immortal…

top 5 of my ocs you wouldn't want to fight;

1. theo goldcrest

the fact that he's an old af vampire is already in his favour but his great grandmother vela did some blood magic on his family line back in the times of the founding of hogwarts. he is vulnerable to the normal ways of disposing of a vampire, but it would be extremely difficult to exploit those weaknesses as he has been trained to fight with and without magic since young age. he knows many ancient forms of magic that aren't in vogue in the modern day. wandless fire magic runs in the family so he's not as flammable as a normal vampire. i feel like the only person alive who could beat him in a duel is his brother elian. (they are both such mary sues if mary sues could be villains)

2. cassia malfoy

much the same as with theo, she has the advantage of age on her side. she wouldn't be on this list if she hadn't become a vampire, since she wasn't interested in combat as a human but she had to learn to defend herself and hide her identity. she's a powerful witch with a wealth of knowledge on her side, i would avoid her.

3. gabriel grimm

recruited by R as a teenager, gabriel has always had a knack for duelling. he later becomes a death eater. he's ruthless and doesn't have issues with committing atrocities. he's not just good at killing people but he actually likes coming up with creative ways to do it. he's pretty decent at hand-to-hand combat too and not a stranger to wandless magic, though definitely more efficient with a wand.

4. genevieve davenport

she has the power of magic AND knives on her side (magical knives too, probably). and she's been killing (rich) people since she was like 10, so she definitely has the experience.

5. juno creed

an auror and a resistance fighter during the second wizarding war, juno is smart and and talented. while he's not really on the same level of unhingedness as the other lovely people on this list, you shouldn't underestimate his duelling skills.

Yet another video essay of the Goldcrest boys and their stormy lives and loves and losses. The Goldcrest boys were born on the 13th century and turned into vampires before even turning 20. Their father, a self claimed king of wizards; Aegar Goldcrest, put them to sleep with a powerful spell for years. They had to find a way to live in the late 1800 and so on after waking up..

Elyan Goldcrest is older and more cunning. He held a grudge against his brother because their father chose him as his heir, even though Elyan was older. He battled wars for their family's honor and grew powerful with pyromagic. He was their mother Kerina's favourite.

After turning into vampires, the relationship between the brothers changed. They had to get along to survive in the new world and Elyan changed his attitude towards Theo. He began to build a safer life for the two. They changed their names to fit in and  went back to school to learn more about the 1800's.He met prince Henry of Alderly in Hogwarts and became his secret lover for years. Through Henry he also befriended Primrose Gray and  Malcolm Stolberg-Burke.

Elian took part on world war II, being the spy in enemy forces.

His modern years were slower and he kept his distance from people, not wanting to have to go through losing loved ones yet again. At some point he met Gabriel Grimm, a  dark wizard who shared his passions in life and they started a rocky relationship.

Elian wanted to find his fathers lost artifact, a crown that held great power but that was lost in history.

Theodric  Goldcrest was his father's pride and joy. His childhood was different from his brothers as he was spoiled and got to travel. Yet he was always kept safe because of his great destiny. Theo never hated Elyan and wished to get along with him despite the situation. After his father made the powerful crown, he wanted his younger son to rule beside him. The boys turning into vampires ruined this plan. It proved to be harder for Theo's self control than Elyan's. Aegar wouldn't  let the turns of events change his own plan and had no choice but to spell his sons, hoping to find a cure and still believing in Theo's prophesy. He died alone while the boys were  left to sleep.

Getting used to his new life after waking up from the spell was a struggle for Theo. He wasn't pleased with Elians new relationships either. During the 1920's he made a new enemy,  a squib called Adam Brynn who's  goal was to expose the wizarding kind. Theo fought against his plans with the support of his brother and Adam didn't reach his goal.

Years later, Theo went back to school yet again and in Hogwarts he met Adam Brynn's  doppelganger, a muggleborn called  John Arthur. John was Adam's complete opposite and didn't know anything about his roots. It took a while for Theo to warm up to John, remembering of his own past,  but the two became friends and started a relationship eventually.

kerina slytherin was the great granddaughter of the hogwarts founder salazar slytherin. she was always headstrong and wanted to carve out her own path. she married aegar by her own choice, although both of their parents had hoped to further their own goals by arranged marriages. kerina had political ambitions of her own but preferred to work behind the scenes instead of taking on an active leadership role, like her predecessor nienna had done. keeping up a certain standard of appearances was important to kerina and she was always immaculately dressed. she and her husband had a close relationship but it became troubled, when aegar began to favour their younger son theodric, since he was said to be the chosen one. kerina grew closer to the pair's elder son elyan, while aegar took theodric along to his travels and raised him to be a leader. kerina didn't want elyan to be sent off to fight in the battles of the rebellion but was overruled by her husband. she always knew elyan had a good mind for politics and that he would have been a better successor. she did care for theodric as well, but felt as though he was being taken away from her and struggled to form a close bond with him. kerina died when elyan was 18, in the same attack that turned the boys into vampires. her death broke aegar's heart and fundamentally changed the family's dynamics. henry of alderly named one of his daughters after her.
