Academy Award-winning Jewish American songwriter Richard M. Sherman, one of the creative geniuses behind some of Walt Disney’s most iconic and timeless songs, died on Saturday at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills “due to age-related illness,” the Walt Disney Company announced. He was 95 years old.
The Walt Disney Company described Sherman as “one of the most prolific composer-lyricists in the history of family entertainment, and a key member of Walt Disney’s inner circle of creative talents.” The company added that it will announce at a later date its plans for celebrating Sherman’s life.
“Richard Sherman was the embodiment of what it means to be a Disney Legend, creating along with his brother Robert the beloved classics that have become a cherished part of the soundtrack of our lives,” said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “From films like Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book to attractions like ‘It’s a Small World,’ the music of the Sherman Brothers has captured the hearts of generations of audiences. We are forever grateful for the mark Richard left on the world, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family.”
Sherman and his late brother, Robert B. Sherman, made up the songwriting team known as the Sherman Brothers. Together they wrote music for the 1964 film Mary Poppins, including “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” and the lullaby “Feed the Birds.” The brothers won the Oscars for Best Score – Substantially Original and Best Original Song for “Chim Chim Cher-ee.” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” made it on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1965 and “Feed the Birds” was one of Walt Disney’s favorite songs.
“You don’t get songs like ‘A Spoonful of Sugar’ without a genuine love of life, which Richard passed on to everyone lucky enough to be around him,” said Pete Docter, chief creative officer of Pixar Animation Studios. “Even in his 90s he had more energy and enthusiasm than anyone, and I always left renewed by Richard’s infectious joy for life.”
Born on June 12, 1928, in New York City, Richard’s family relocated to Beverly Hills in 1937. He attended Beverly Hills High School and later studied music at Bard College. He was drafted into the United States Army and served as conductor for the Army band and glee club from 1953 to 1955.
Walt Disney hired the Sherman brothers as staff songwriters for The Walt Disney Studios after the success of their song “Tall Paul,” which sold more than 700,000 singles. The brothers together ultimately wrote more than 200 songs for some 27 Disney films and 24 television productions. Their credit included The Horsemasters (1961), The Absent-Minded Professor (1961), The Parent Trap (1961), Summer Magic (1963), The Sword in the Stone (1963), That Darn Cat! (1965), Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966), The Jungle Book (1967), The Happiest Millionaire (1967), The Aristocats (1970), Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971), and The Tigger Movie (1998). Richard later wrote new lyrics for the live-action The Jungle Book in 2016 and two years after appeared in the film Christopher Robin, for which he also composed three new songs.
The Sherman brothers also wrote music for Disney theme park attractions around the world, including “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow,” “The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room,” and “It’s a Small World.” In the early 1980s, they wrote songs for EPCOT and Tokyo Disneyland, including “One Little Spark” and “Meet the World.”
The Sherman brothers left The Walt Disney Studios in the early 1970s and went on to write music, songs, and screenplays for films such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), Snoopy Come Home (1972), Charlotte’s Web (1973), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1973), Huckleberry Finn (1974), and The Slipper and the Rose (1976).
In 1972, the duo became the only Americans to ever win 1st Prize at the Moscow Film Festival for their film musical The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, for which they wrote the script and music. The brothers were inducted as Disney Legends in 1990 and into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005. Three years later, the brothers were awarded the National Medal of the Arts.
In 2010, Richard and award-winning composer John Debney collaborated on the song “Make Way for Tomorrow Today” for Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 2.
Over the course of his 65-year career, Richard received nine Academy Award nominations, won three Grammys, and received 24 gold and platinum albums. Richard’s father, Al Sherman, was also a songwriter.

Wonderful Things That May Or May Not Be Wonderful On the last day of September, Illuminations: Reflections of Earth, EPCOT's nighttime spectacular show finished its 20 year long run. I'm honestly not a fan of fireworks displays but you add "inferno barges" that send out large conflagrations, more barges that shoot out fountains of water, torches and lights on all of the world pavilions, a massive globe that has LCD screens on all the continents that splits open to reveal another torch, visuals that reflect the evolution of the earth and humanity, and a soundtrack that is one of the few pieces of media in recent memory to make me cry, and I'm most certainly interested. For many of my trips to Walt Disney World, it was the capstone to a wonderful trip and I am so glad I got to see it one last time before EPCOT Forever and HarmoniUS took its place. Regardless of whether you think those shows were/are able to live to this one, the truth is: "We go on"

Okay I watched Epcot forever and soundtrack on iTunes when
But seriously aside from the ending the music’s pretty solid, fireworks feel kinda... bland compared to Illuminations. The kites were cool though
One of the most exciting parts though? ONE LITTLE SPARK GOT A NEW VERSE!!!
“The dreams we dreamed, the hopes inside us Ignite the path we take to guide us And hand in hand, the future is unfurled From just one spark a whole new world”
I mean, yeah those last few words are... a little concerning but still
I like it. Disney’s teasing us again tho and I’m like JUST ANNOUNCE SOMETHING ALREADY

Chao reviews: Disney’s Illumination: Reflections of Earth
Tumblr media
As the show is nearing to draw out its final breath in half an hour, it is time I have finally let out my full experience of the show that I have fully grown up with.
My family use to travel alot for as long as I could recall. We would always go to Disney World and camp at Disney’s Fort Wilderness for Atleast around twice a year, ofcourse that’s my guess as how many times we visited the park. Epcot has always been my favorite park. I love the rides, I grew up with Figmwnt, I love visiting the Japan pavilion just to spend half an hour or more at that Japan shopping center and give my poor family a hard time trying to get me out of there.
Somehow I enjoyed exploring Epcot so much that I one night wandered out of my parents sight and took them Atleast five minutes to find me. I have way too much memories of Epcot. Too many stories to count. But what I have always saw as the heart of Epcot was none other then IROE.
As a baby however, I didn’t like it at first. You see, I was always sensitive to loud noises. So much so that I would always plug my ears and look away everytime the guitar would blare out in the beginning of “Tarzan Rocks” (to anyone who doesn’t know it, it’s basically a show that use to be in Animal Kingdom before Finding Nemo took its place).
So what my parents always did was that they would take me to this wine place where the nice old lady would play her piano. Despite pulgging my ears and staying close to dad, I would still look out the window. Seeing the soft colorful lights in the sky and often seeing spark of the fireworks. Even when I was terrified at the firework’s sound, I wanted to love it. I wanted to get over the fear so I can go outside and fully experience. But I had a while until that moment ever came.
The show, expecting only to last a year, extended its life greatly. I grew older, and the easily terrified little girl started to drift off, letting the part of the little girl in me let go of her ears, step out of the wine building, and fully experience it.
I fell in love with it rapidly. So everytime I go to Epcot, my main attraction would to watch that fireworks show and to this day, even when it disappears in half an hour, I will still see it as the greatest firework show of all time. With everything bad going around the world, with having to be forced to watch bad things happening. In the news, people easily getting mad at one another, or the fear on what might happen in the future, all of the thoughts and anxieties subsides when I even listen to the whole soundtrack.
It brings me into the trance that even when bad things happen in the world, there’s more beauty and goodness to it than there are to the bad side.
I was heartbroken when I heard the news one day. My heart dropped and I completely covered my mouth, having no idea how it can be possible. It was that moment when I found out about this I thought:
I HAVE to see it one more time.
It was August 2019. One month before it goes. I went with my friend early morning to take the last glimpse of it. It was raining and it felt like the world itself was mourning over it. In the afternoon, it started to clear up and the sun started shining again. And all of the sudden, when we walking around, I took a glimpse at the lagoon where the globe was now settling at the center of it.
And I saw this:
Tumblr media
It was a rainbow. A rainbow has appeared behind the globe. And at that moment, it was as if the globe came to life for a moment as a way to thank me and everyone that has loved the show. That it has done its work and it is ready to depart, but will always be remembered. And that’s when I knew I was finally accepting the fact that it was ready to go.
I even recall when watching the show how much it aged, but remained memorable all the same. It may be gone, but the memory of it once standing on the lagoon will forever live beyond the middle of the lake.
And for that, even when a new show takes it place, we will still move on and embrace a new generation for Epcot.
For that,
We go on.

Dates Announced for Epcot Nighttime Spectaculars
Tumblr media
After a dazzling 20-year run, we will bid a fond farewell to “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” at Epcot® on Sept. 30, 2019. So come and gather around World Showcase Lagoon this summer to enjoy this breathtaking display of lasers, lights and fireworks, as we get ready to launch two new nighttime spectaculars as part of the park’s unprecedented, multi-year transformation.
Debuting Oct. 1, 2019, “Epcot Forever” will be an all-new, limited-time spectacle of fireworks, music, lighting, lasers and choreographed, special effects kites. The show will take us on a journey through the past, present and future of Epcot. Featuring a stirring collection of songs that paint a colorful picture of the park, this nighttime extravaganza will offer both a trip down memory lane and a look towards the future and all the magical possibilities still to come.
Disney Parks Live Entertainment is busy getting “Epcot Forever” ready for its opening day. Show Director Alan Bruun recently shared some details about the concept behind the show and the team’s collaboration with noted conductor and composer Don Harper, who is producing new arrangements of classic Epcot tunes to weave into the soundtrack of “EpcotForever.”

New Post has been published on https://vacationsoup.com/epcot-forever-nighttime-spectacular/
Epcot Forever Nighttime Spectacular Debuts October 1st 2019
Nighttime spectaculars are Disney's specialty. Nobody sparkles the night sky with the same magical flair. It looks like we're in for a better-than-ever experience when "Epcot Forever" debuts at World Showcase October 1st 2019.
Many will be sad to bid a fond farewell to Illuminations: Reflections of Earth. The shows' 20 year run will come to an end on September 30th. But what's coming our way looks spectacular. Even if it is a limited-time show.
Epcot Forever will run until a new permanent Epcot nighttime spectacular is launched in 2020. All part of the park’s multi-year transformation.
Airborne Choreography Will take Epcot Forever to New Heights
Even by Disney standards, choreographed jet skis controlling special effect kites sound awesome and intriguing! Fireworks, lasers and lights can only add to the magic.
Brady MacDonald wrote an article for BlooLoop which gives us an insight into what's in store for the new show. The illuminated kites will be controlled by two-man teams aboard Jet Ski-like personal watercraft. The show will employ eight of the Jet Skis, with a driver and kite performer aboard each personal watercraft. The movement of the Jet Skis will also create the wind required to keep the kites aloft.
The new show will celebrate the past, present and future of Epcot on a trip down memory lane and a look towards the future. All built around the magical soundtrack regular visitors to Epcot will have come to know and love. A stirring collection of songs will paint a colorful picture of Epcot.
Disney Parks Live Entertainment is collaborating on the show with noted conductor and composer Don Harper. He is producing all-new arrangements of classic Epcot tunes to weave into the soundtrack of “Epcot Forever.”
“‘Epcot Forever’ is a celebration of what Epcot has been and what Epcot is going to become”
said Alan Bruun, show director for Disney Parks Live Entertainment.
“Music is the star of the show, and we use songs going back to the very beginnings of Epcot to music in the park today. From attractions, spectaculars and other shows – and put them into a fireworks spectacular on the lagoon every night. Guests are going to hear music they know and love but in a whole new way.”
Who's excited to see the new Epcot nighttime spectaculars? We can't wait!

yo
Tagged by the utterly fantastic @basmathgirl :) Here goes!
1. Coke or Pepsi?
Neither lmao. My mother scared me off of fizzy drinks when I was a wee little thing, so I never really acquired a taste for any. So it’s either stealing sips from a friend’s glass or nothing
2. Disney or DreamWorks?
... must I really choose? Well I guess Disney has a broader range with the stuff they’ve done (like Pirates of the Caribbean), and I fucking LOVE Epcot so. Disney.
3. Coffee or tea?
I may be Indian, but COFFEE ALL THE WAYYY.
But if I am really honest, I’m more of a milk + chocolate person.
4. Books or movies?
well depends really - if there’s a series I like reading the books before watching the adaptation, makes it all the more interesting to notice all the subtle symbolism in the images. But obvs you also just have film series and they work too :)
5. Windows or mac?
*shifts uncomfortably as I type on my mac* uhhhh yeah mac lmao.
6. DC or Marvel?
Well... I haven’t really read the comics. According the to Cinematic Universes uptil this point, Marvel for sure.
7. Xbox or PlayStation?
Playstation <3
8. Dragon Age or Mass Effect?
*crickets sound*
9. Night owl or early bird?
I love the night. I am the night. But my exams and hitting adulthood hormones are turning me into a semi morning semi night creature.
Having said that, I enjoy the darkness and the silence so.
10. Cards or chess?
Chess af. Even played it properly at competitions for a while
11. Chocolate or vanilla?
CHOCOLAAATTEEEEEEE
12. Vans or Converse?
Converse *Tenth Doctor vibes intensify*
13. Lavellan, Trevelyan, Cadash or Adaar?
?????
14. Fluff or angst?
Both. Both is good.
15. Beach or forest?
Well having lived near a coast for all my life, beaches have become slightly dull... and there are too many people around. Having said that, i do like getting wet at a beach :) Forests, but not the rainforest types with annoying insects. Peaceful coniferous forests which are nice and cool would be nice :)
16. Dogs or cats?
Both. Both is good.
17. Clear skies or rain?
Again, depends doesn’t it? Being Indian the rainy season is a fun time, but if I’m in an English countryside, clear skies are always welcome :)
18. Cooking or eating out?
Out. I’ll probably destroy my home cooking.
19. Spicy food or mild food?
Spicy and mild mixed. Essentially an Indian thing.
20. Halloween/Samhain or solstice/yule/Christmas?
Diwali kicks all of y’all asses :)
21. Would you rather forever be a little too cold or a little too hot?
Cold.
22. If you could have a superpower what would it be?
SHIT THIS IS HARD. Uhm... super intelligence? So I can procrastinate and be perfect at the same time without suffering near breakdowns and burn outs
23. Animation or live action?
Too vague...
24. Paragon or renegade?
paragon... as much as I like to think I’m a rebel I’m really not XD
25. Baths or showers?
SHOWERS. I’ve had baths all my life, taking a shower is like a luxury
26. Team cap or team ironman?
CANT. CHOOOSE>
27. Fantasy or sci-fi?
Well they’re both different sides of the same coin. Tho I guess sci fi is slightly broader.
28. Do you have three or four favourite quotes, if so what are they?
1. Anything that comes out of John Oliver’s soft face
2. Anything that comes out of the Doctor’s soft face
3. “I don’t go looking for trouble, trouble usually finds me” Harry im-so-done-with-this Potter
29. YouTube or Netflix?
YouTube
30. Harry potter or Percy Jackson?

Coming back after an exam and being able to watch videos without any feeling of guilt.
32. Star Wars or Star Trek?
Haven’t really seen any of them... tho I saw the most recent Star Wars and I will watch it as soon as I can get my hands on them :)
33. Paperback books or hardback books?
Well I don’t really care, But i prefer hardback
34. To live in a world without literature or without music?
Again, one couldn’t be appreciated without the other. But I guess living in a world without music would hurt harder than literature.
35. Pale faded colours or vibrant colours?
Pale faded colours most of the times.
36. Good characterization with a bad plot or a good plot with bad characterization?
Good characterisation with a bad plot.
37. Favourite Disney movie?

What if the cure for anxiety was making 70 macaroons in one afternoon?
It’s not, but wouldn’t it be great if it was?
I’d feel so relieved.
We were at my parents’ house for the day, I needed to stress-bake, and even though I’d never made macaroons before, I decided to compensate by making all the macaroons.
There are SO many recipes online that claim to be the “best macaroon recipe” or a “bakery-style macaroon recipe” or a “first place at the county fair recipe” and it stressed me out too much to choose just one—so I picked three recipes and made three batches to scientifically determine once and for all: what is the best macaroon recipe?
SOUND THE CANNON!
I started out with recipe Alpha, the one that got me by claiming, “This is the perfect recipe—for the BEST coconut macaroons! Bakery-style, egg-free, chewy and FULL of coconut!”
It has also been pinned on Pinterest 210,189 times, so someone is doing something right.
But is that something making macaroons? Time to find out.
Recipe Alpha does not require eggs, but calls for 5 and a 1/2 cups of coconut, just under a cup of flour and a whole can of sweetened condensed milk.
The dough came together really easily and I got almost 30 cookies out of it (5 and a 1/2 cups of coconut!). The recipe claimed that macaroons come out denser and more cookie-like without eggs, but they tasted pretty crispy to me. Still chewy, but not half as chewy as a cookie. It was a medium chewy.
Like Chewie’s son, Lumpy, from the Star Wars Holiday Special.
(I would insert a picture of Lumpy, but he is horrifying. Did you ever have a stuffed animal that got stuck behind a dryer? And then looked angry about it forever once you got them out?).
I made a piping bag out of a Ziploc and melted some chocolate chips, and did a little decorating. But something gnawed at me. Could I get a chewier macaroon from a different recipe? One that called for eggs?
I mean, if eggs were the only changed variable, surely I could determine once and for if eggs are essential to a perfect macaroon, right? That’s how science works, according to my liberal arts degree.
So I did some digging around in my own Internet history (man, do I look up a lot of weird murders late at night) and found my second-favorite recipe, recipe Beta.
This is Ina Garten’s recipe, so obviously I was good hands. People at the Food Network vetted this, it has 387 glowing reviews on the website, and I like Ina Garten! She seems like a nice lady! She loves the gays!
So can a fellow gay please give Ina a message for me? Tell her this recipe needs more coconut! Even though it calls for a whole can of condensed milk AND 2 extra-large egg whites, there’s barely 2 cups of coconut. That’s a lot of wet and not a lot of dry!
I ended up panicking and putting another entire cup in the dough, but it was still so runny and wet that I couldn’t get the macaroons to hold their shape at all on the baking sheet. After a few minutes in the oven, they were running like they had a plane to catch.
“What the hell, Ina?” I said out loud.
Obviously, I wasn’t going to throw those misshapen flunkies as my final gauntlet, so it was time for recipe Gamma (you thought I was going to say Omega, didn’t you? What’s up, fanfic! I SEE YOU), which claimed to be the winner of a first-place ribbon at the county fair.
Now, in my previous post, I’ve alluded to how seriously my family takes a good ribbon. A blue ribbon is a badge of honor and quality that can’t be topped.
According to the website, this recipe was also published in a magazine called Reminisce Extra in August of 1996.
What was I doing in August 1996? I was either deep into The Hunchback of Notre Dame soundtrack (the BELLS) which I had to listen to on a physical CD that was purchased in an actual store (gross), or going to see Matilda, but only after I checked the movie times in the newspaper because 1996 was a long effing time ago.
If this recipe survived the jump from magazines to the Internet, it must be good, right?
This recipe calls for 2 extra-large egg whites, like Ina’s recipe, but no condensed milk, so the dry to wet ratio was just about perfect—these definitely scooped out the best of the three recipes, and held their shape beautifully, even when I almost dropped the pan trying to take a picture.
My parents, my sister and A wandered into the kitchen just in time to see an explosion of macaroons.
My mom loves to organize, my sister and A love to scientifically evaluate, and my dad loves cookies.
It was time for a taste test.
Everything was very official, according to the format of those “Coke vs. Pepsi” ads that ran all the time in the ’90s. Everyone, including me, was served a small bite of each macaroon, labeled A, B, and C, and then submitted their rankings on a Post-It.
A, as always, took things about nine steps further than required by ranking the macaroons based on taste, appearance, and chewiness.
Meanwhile, my dad helpfully wrote “All chewy” on his Post-It.
The findings were these: A’s favorite was C—recipe Beta, Ina Garten’s recipe. Even though they were the worst in terms of appearance, she thought they were the sweetest and most like a cookie.
Everyone else ranked C last. Having both eggs and sweetened condensed milk made the macaroons more like regular cookies without enough coconut, making them too sweet and too chewy.
I’ll make the recipe again for A though—she had the brilliant suggestion of making them in muffin cups to keep their shape in the oven.
Even though my sister and I are polar opposites in almost every way, much to the consternation of both our parents and shared Netflix account, we ranked our macaroons exactly the same—with A, recipe Gamma, the blue ribbon winner, as our favorite. We agreed (gasp!) that the blue ribbons were not too chewy, not too crispy, with a strong flavor and smooth texture. Not adding condensed milk kept the sweetness down and the coconut flavor up.
“Wow, you must be related,” said A.
This is a big deal since when my sister talks about the two of us, she tends to to end each statement with, “. . . assuming we have the same parents.”
My parents were baffled to find that they’d ranked their macaroons exactly the same as well—with B in first place.
“Uh-oh, are you related?” I said.
“We just have old taste buds,” said my mom, with a sideways glare at my dad.
My parents  could not be more different in terms of taste buds. My dad loves ice cream and chocolate the way my mom loves Brussel sprouts and asparagus.
She can’t abide sweet, he can’t abide anything green.
If they ever ordered the same thing at a restaurant or one offered to share a dish with the other, I would call the cops.
One time, at Disney World, my mom asked my dad for a taste of his gelato, and he asked if she’d been abducted by aliens. He still mentions it every time we visit Epcot: “That’s the gelato cart where Mom asked for a bite of my gelato. I thought I was hallucinating.”
On the other hand, my mom has almost called 911 on the rare occasions that my dad has willingly eaten a vegetable.
And yet, by some miracle, they both preferred the bakery-style macaroons with no eggs. They liked that recipe Alpha was the driest of the three and thus had a crispier texture—and thought it had the most flavor.
“I could really taste the vanilla in that one,” said my mom.
“There was vanilla in this?” said my dad.
And so, the great macaroon experiment concluded. Naturally, I am looking ahead to my next baking frenzy—next time, it might involve sprinkles.
The Great Macaroon Experiment What if the cure for anxiety was making 70 macaroons in one afternoon? It's not, but wouldn't it be great if it was?
