The last few autumn leaves are clinging on to the Hornbeam Tree that inspired Jill Barklem to create the home of the Toadflax family. Located in Epping Forest, the tree is thought to be over 400 years old (source)
Epping Forest is an ancient woodland at the border between London and Essex. The woods are circa 2.400 hectare big. Translated to kilometres approximately 19 kilometres long from north to south, and 4 kilometres wide from east to west. It lies between the valleys of the rivers Lea and Roding. Over 100 lakes and ponds can be found in the forest, varying in size and age. But their is only one pond called The Killer or Suicide Pool.
The story goes like this: About 300 years ago a young couple went on a walk in Epping Forrest. After a while they noticed they were being followed and they decided to confront the person. As it turns out, it was the father of the girl, who disagreed with the relationship. Blinded by anger the father killed his daughter and dumped her in a nearby pool (also called a pond). Upon realising his tragedy, the boy committed suicide at the same spot.
Not long after, strange things started happening. The waters of the pool transformed into a dark, impenetrable black colour. Wildlife began to die at its edges, and the ground soon became barren.
Then, the bodies started to appear. In 1887 both a woman killed herself at the pool and not much later a young servant named Emma Morgen killed both herself and her child. Over the years many people have died, either by suicide or murder in Epping Forest. It is even said that the pond calls people to its edges and drives them to kill themselves.

It’s a pity that the quality of the Black Show and the Epping Forest live videos is poor, but I thought these moments were really cool with the round circle of light and Peter’s shadow projected in the background.
